[Q] Social Hub - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What I really want is root, so I can remove the Samsung bloatware, but in the mean time, how can I stop Social Hub from doing anything?
To test it I pretty much logged in to everything, Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Google Talk... but now I find there's no way to remove accounts?

That got me too! I've now put all the crap apps in a folder so there out of sight. I don't think we'll need to root the phone to get rid of these apps. Hopefully there will be a more advanced task/application manager out soon that will allow access to that pointless samsung apps.

I figured out how to remove sns accounts, but not im accounts...
To remove facebook and twitter goto settings, accounts and sync. Then remove the accounts...
In the end, I did a factory reset just to make sure it's all disconnected.

Ahh yes. Well, I have root now and I've removed all SNS apps

Any quick way to remove these all at once besides installing a deodexed rom?

Root your device and install titanium backup and use it to freeze or remove the apps you want.

[Q] Facebook Updates Through Motoblur?

First, I'm not talking about the Facebook app. As most of you know, Motoblur can hold a Facebook account and can show you Facebook messages when they come, but those messages will show up almost an hour after the regular Facebook app does. I was wondering if there was any way to make it sync faster? I have been searching everywhere for it.
After flashing Adeo fb never would sync for me and the motoblur account couldn't be modified. I remember it saying I couldn't delete the fb account w/o factory reset. I did SBF, GladRoot, updated & ran AfterUpdate to retain root. Now my social networking syncs properly again, something about Adeo broke it. It works so well I was getting duplicate notifications back to back for fb messages so I disabled notifications for messages on the fb app.

What you said seems to be working. It is definitely synching quicker than before, not as perfect as I'd like but nothing is perfect about Motorblur haha. Thanks for the tips!

social hub vs standalone app?

Title say it all, for all those use both.
Social hub vs facebook app, gmail app, IM app, etc.
Which one do you prefer and why?

I tried the social hub but gave up on it... I think it suffers from the same problem most other aggrrgstors in that it's not feature complete...
For instance I couldn't figure out how to post a picture to facebook
There's no facebook chat...
And I couldn't work out how to follow a new person in twitter....
All really basic omissions. FAIL

Any alternatives? The friendstream in HTC Sense is fantastic! Moved over to CM7 but I've been struggling to find any decent alternatives I use Launcher Pro's widget but not as good as friendstream.
Agreed friendstream is excellent, I'm coming from a HD2 running Android with Sense and that's the one widget I'll miss the most I think so hope there's a decent alternative available. Once I have the phone I'll start looking but hopefully someone can recommend a good one so will be watching this closely
I'm loving TweetDeck at the moment. You can have Facebook and Twitter separated into columns or you can have them bundled together.
Mentions and notifications on Twitter and Facebook are also organised into one column and you can setup notification sounds etc. for each column.
Worth checking out considering it's free and I wouldn't go near the Twitter for Android app again.

same here, desktop version was ok
do you have ANY idea how many messages i missed because i thot "o look fancy social app, im sure it'll beep when i have messages"...waiting..waiting...20 hours later my friends calls me pissed off "hey..its been 20 hours why didnt you reply to facebook message?"
But at the moment we stop using SocialHub we'll lose the contact social (updates/multimedia) as a side effect right?
If like of the only part of it you want is the contact integration then you only need the sns parts of the whole social hub. The rest you can remove or freeze with titanium backup.
I'm using Batista rom which doesn't have the social hub. I just added the sns stuff and then added the Facebook for social hub account under phone settings->accounts and sync. Then also just enable Facebook under your contacts display settings

Yep, that's how I use it, too. Keep the benefits and get rid of the crap.
Is there any way to hide some facebook friends? My facebook is organized by groups but the sns doesn't take this in consideration.

I give up using the social hub as I could not get thur the samsung registeration step. The Reg. repeated itself and just could not get out.
Yup - it's official - the Social Hub is a steam pile of ****e....

Did you try reflashing your rom? That should work.
Install Facebook App from market, that should do.
It would work fine.
It won't be integrated as before but it surely works good just as before.
Restoring the just the system back solved my issue, thanks!

Social Hub Accounts

Have searched found most of what I wanted to do however I have the following two things I can seem to get rid of.
I have removed all of the SNS stuff except SNS 1.5 with TB.
Can I remove this?
I also cant seem to get rid of everything Social Hum as in when you goto add accounts there is still two listed. They are:
Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo Mail
How can I get rid of these?
some one has got to have an answer..... please
Just because the option is there doesn't mean the program is. Why the need to get rid of every trace?

That confused me too. Why do you want remove every trace of them? The only time you see that is when you go to add an account.

I guess I am a little OCD?
can I remove SNS 1.5?
You can freeze it in TB, if you don't get FCs or other issues you should be able to uninstall it. That way you can unfreeze it instead of reflashing a ROM if it gives you issues.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
If you freeze/uninstall all of the different SNS listings you WILL get FCs when trying to use certain features related to contacts. Specifically if you link your contacts with FB or whatever and then freeze the SNS account linked to that social networking site your contacts will never update. If you freeze SnsImageCache it will cause a FC if you try and open the "media" tab under a contact's name.

[Q] want to get rid of gmail app... what can I do?

So I want to remove the G mail app from my phone or at least not use it. This is more of a privacy issue. I want to use a full featured app like K-9 where I can set a master password so users that I lend my phone to momentarily dont start going into my inbox and other folders.
So is there a way to totally remove the gmail app. If not will just removing my account info from the gmail app (if possible) also unsync me from the other Google services connected to my phone?
Thank you
Root phone.
Download root uninstaller.
Uninstall Gmail from app.

You could disable sync in settings. This app may be of some use. If your device is rooted, you can use a root uninstaller app (as mentioned) to remove it (or you could simply delete it from /system/app/ - root still required.)
Just make a backup of the app (incase u need it in future) b4 deleting it from system/app.
