on the original galaxy s phone, the battery driver does not output any current readings, so apps like the current widget are useless.
can anyone confirm if the current widget works on the galaxy s 2? perhaps the current widget app might not even be updated yet for this phone, so you would also have to look into the filesystem, find the battery driver output sysfs, and see if current shows up there.
Anyone have any news on this yet? Tried to install the current widget from the market?
If you mean this widget:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget&feature=search_result
Then no, it doesn't appear to work, adding the widget and pressing 'update now' it still just says no data...
makes sense since the galaxy s didnt work either, because the samsung battery driver did not output current draw, so the widget had no place to look for the current file.
i wonder if the galaxy s2 battery driver is different? somebody with the device would have to use root explorer, and dig thru the file system and locate teh battery driver folder and see if current output is there.
then the current widget will be updated to work.
possible locations: sys/devices/platform/ and look for battery driver (might not say the actual word battery though)
lets hope this exists!

Now that the code is released, the battery driver does look like it outputs current readings. But the widget will have to be updated to point to the proper file location. Someone should browse the their file tree and try to locate the battery file folder.
Also a few people have posted claiming battery monitor widget is showing current readings. Not sure how accurate that is though.
I would VERY mich like to have current widget finally working on my SGS2. All this beast under the hood after upgrading from HD2, but I discover I cannot read battery current, nor the phone keeps date&time if I swap out the battery. Disappointing to say the least.
Would you please point me in the direction of where to look at in order to give you insight on making currentwidget work?

Yes, i had seen this behavior, it's something with first run on the device. Can you make a test, go to settings (last tool item on the main screen), make sure that DefaultQVGA skin is selected and save settings. Then restart program. If it helps?
Anyway, i must fix it

I try this several times but no luck, same here buttons too big on QVGA.If i remove this program is everything gonna change back to default???
Yes, my mistake, QVGA skin have bad images (for VGA devices). New installation cab is already available.
Thanks. Installed on polaris (qvga) and it's working ok.
I've been looking for an app like this...great work! I'll check it out & report back...
Good job presenting these low level power settings and offering control in such a user friendly way!
Those monitoring features you are planning would be a very welcome addition. Perhaps in the future, users could share their best practices how to save battery. We could also export and share our battery saving settings file, for others to restore and check if it works for them.
oohhhh... this looks tasty.. I'll hafta download this and check it out. I have 6.5 so I'll test it and let you know how it works.
i have HTC HD Italian, is a multilingual program?
Very nice GUI - and I think its a needed app.
Why I only think it is, is because I dont really know how how to use it.
Should we just put all into poweroff to save battery or does any have some good hints in how to get most out of this app.
A bit more details for how to use it and what can be accomplished by BattGuard could be nice.
(I would like to save battery - so what might be the best settings for that. And will services still be able to start when poweroff and so on...)

Yes, but someone must do translation. In the root folder of application is file English.lng. This is a good template for any translations.

Not all I think, but maybe some devices are useless for someone. For example, i use camera very seldom, so for "On" state I can set "Main Camera" to Power Off. And then yes, in fact camera is disabled, but if it's improve battery life? I don't know, it's time for testing.

This is a tool, we need more knowledge (at least me ). There are programs for battery usage tracking so now we can tests power settings. I want to pack this functionality to Battery Guard and make it more usefull (register not only battery usage but also every things that could affect that).
And one info. Not every device support all power states. Often it's support only On/Off state. Current power states window shows info from system cache, so sometimes lie . Scenario:
1. Set Main camera "Power Off" for state "On"
2. Switch Off phone (mean suspend)
3. Switch On phone
4. Check current power states, you will see Main Camera is suspend
5 Soft reset and check power states again, you will see Main Camera is completly off
I just tried out your application and I am incredibly impressed. My face was like this: . It literally blew my mind. This literally is a complete switchboard for all of the devices in our Windows Mobile smartphones. I'll definitely have a few blog posts dedicated to this on my blog: http://soul-est.doc776.org/sotp/
very nice app, i try ed out of curiosity to see what it does,
also found some other thing, thanks to this app i tried apptodate from where the problem comes

Yes, automatic uninstall cause invalid apptodate files replacement, i don't know why. Please manually unistall Battery Guard and then install it again. It's sure 0.0.1.1 version .
Anyway, is there a better free way to make installation cab, other than VS Project ?
Thx for the answer. Will try to see what happens in various scenarios..
great idea, been waiting that since a long time.
I guess one will be able to compare ROM consumptions using this soon, right ?
About version 0.0.1.2: Rather minor changes.
Now it's time for monitoring feature. In first attempt it will be part of main application. Later, after stabilization stage i'am going to move it to standalone service.
may i ask how do i use this application to save on battery juice?
Hello.
Is it possible to port this Mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724778 to our Hero?
'Cause than there isnt a need to install 3rd party apps (akku or battery).
I hope u can help me.
Best regards.
Yes it is but I need to know what ROM your using

I'd like it for Villain 12 aswel.
Is it a big job to convert?... Do you swap out the images individually once found or is there a less time consuming method?
Can I get a list of which folders and filenames relate to which object. i.e...
Battery meter is located .....
Wifi notification .....
Or am I being too lazy and should just look myself and make a list?
It's simply just exctracting the icons and then replacing them Going to do it later but i'm off for a soccer match for now xD
i think it is a little bit more than that, i already replaced the icons, and they show up, but standard behaviour is that it shows 20,40,60,80 and 100% etc. so just replacing the icons will show you the circle style in 80% and 60% etc.. but there is no 65 or 41 or whatever view. i guess the xml file for the battery stats in the drawable folder also needs to be edited.
Only thing is i have no experience yet in editing these xml's.

Hi everyone,
I have battery indicator but I'm looking for an app that just replaces the notification bar slot thats taken by the default battery indicator (not the app). I saw one in a screenshot for example, with a circular icon.
It wasn't an app you saw, it was a modification of the framework-res.apk located in /system/framework.
In order to use one you'd need to be rooted & you have to make sure you apply the correct file for your system's build.
Just search this forum for accurate battery mod threads & chose the style you like best. However, be *ABSOLUTELY* certain you get the right file for your firmware version! Applying the wrong one will probably cause continuous force closes from everything.
Hi,
First time poster here, but long time viewer of this forum.
So I got a HTC Wildfire for a few months now and I still like it very much. But I never really wanted to get into programming my own apps because I don't know any programming, I only know graphical stuff. But when I saw the Google App Inventor, this got me a little bit more curious of what I can do myself. So now I got a widget of "Battery Watcher" used it since I got my Wildfire, but now the programmer changed the layout of the widget and I really don't like it (I liked the old one better). So with some searching on how to replace the icons in an APK and signing it again I managed to get the old icon back, but I got 2 problems now.
Problem 1) The widget itself isn't a full 1x1 square anymore, it’s like it took the widget icon and made it 25% shorter in the 1x1 square. (so I think its probably something to do with the layout.xml) but here I don't really find any useful information on how to open and edit that file.
Problem 2) When the phone is charging the battery icon in the widget doesn't stay in its place, it gets placed on top of the widget next to it, and when I unplug my phone everything is back ok. (so this is also with the layout.xml I think)
So does any modder out here know how I can edit the xml file, and what line to adjust? I have the SDK for Android and Eclipse on my PC. I use the stock rom from HTC, I got a Windows 7 x64.
I already mailed the maker of the widget, but haven't heard back from him/her.
As I have never been happy with the connectivity icons of neither stock Atrix nor Gingerbread, I have created my own. I put them here to share. Note that these only look good with a black taskbar and greenish icons there... I.e., the best idea is to use GingerBlur in the first place.
Note: The icons are now included in the 1% battery mod available here.
The differences here are not huge (due also to the size of the icons themselves):
Bigger, more legible font
Arrows are not shown when there is no data traffic
Arrows are bigger than stock gingerblur
Fancy looking 3G, where the 3 is slightly smaller than the G
In order to use these icons, there are two ways. The second one kind of assumes that you know what you are doing, so if you don't - use the first one.
If you have not yet flashed GingerBlur (you can also do this when you have already flashed, it is a bit redundant though and will take quite long)
Download GingerBlur (from the dev section)
Download the attached zip
Extract the attached zip
Open framework-res.apk with a zip tool without unzipping it
For GingerBlur 1.1 and up: it is easiest to extract framework-res.apk from gingerblur-1-X.zip, and open the apk from there. Push the modified apk back into the zip archive, and you should be good to go.
Drag and drop the icons from the attached zip file in the right folder (where the same files are located)
Close the zip tool
Install GingerBlur
If you have already flashed GingerBlur
Pull framework-res.apk
Download and extract the attached zip
Open framework-res.apk in a zip tool (no unzipping!)
Drag and drop new icons where they belong inside the apk
push the apk to a temporary folder on the phone
copy the apk from the temp folder to /system/framework/
reboot phone
The icons look like this:
View attachment 554162
In a phone screen, they'd look like this:
View attachment 554163
There is a 1%
It looks great, thanks!
With https://market.android.com/details?id=ccc71.bmw and the "Defy compatible" mode enabled it is possible to display the battery in 1% steps.
Maybe you can incorporate that feature!?

Yeah, I have that app installed... it does not 'activate' anything, afaik. The single percentages can be grabbed from a pipe, basically, or estimated from voltage, but that does not mean the right-hand battery icon will get updated.
I have an idea though, that I will try out on Thursday (no time today and tomorrow, sorry).
Okay, no problem.
I will be watching this thread, maybe you can post your results here
I am working on the battery mod to display 1% natively in the status bar. I am making good headway in figuring it out, expect it in the next couple of days!
Ok, a little setback on the 1% battery mod. Ok, talking to myself here
Anyhow, will start a separate thread on this, as I am a bit stuck currently.
I hope that you can make it work with the new update (1.5.57)
How can I get the GingerBlur notification bar (plus your icons when I replace them) without installing GingerBlur? Do I just replace my framework-res.apk? (I have backed up)

I have not really tried doing that... but you should be able to roughly follow the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536271
Note that:
- With 7zip, there is no need to rename the apk. Just open, but don't unzip it. Drag and drop files in.
- As GingerBlur already has the files you need, there is no need to create them
- You need to figure out which are the icons you need to copy. Obviously, the post above just talks about the statusbar itself; you also need to copy some icons (for cell signal, wifi signal, etc.). Where it gets a bit fiddly is that there are some things to watch out for. One, icons may not have the same number of levels - e.g, cell signal has five levels in motoblur, but only four levels in gingerblur. Two, I am still not sure whether icon sizes are hard coded; in which case, changing files like this may not work. And three, when I played around with battery icons (this included changing a binary xml file, though!), I managed to make my battery icon disappear completely, which is something you should be prepared for.
Bottom line? In your worst case scenario, be prepared to flash the 1.2.6 SBF if you mess up. If you want to be on the safe side, just install GingerBlur - much less hassle
Much harder than the copy and paste method I had in mind lol
Yeah I'll install gingerblur when its out for 1.5.7
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Just a note: The icons are now included in the 1% battery mod here.
