Email program options - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just thought I would share something I learned. The samsung Tab email.apk will work on the fascinate. I am on exchange and it seems to work much better. Probably old new but thought I would pass along the info.

Easy way to sync contacts between Thunderbird and WM devices?

If this has already been discussed, point me in the right direction please, I searched but didn't find anything.
So is there a (free, preferably) way to sync contacts between Thunderbird and my Titan? This would be a tremendous help to me!
-Randy
PS - Looked into Plaxo, didn't seem too seamless.
I've looked into this as well....if it helps to know, I went back to using Outlook...

thanks for the link!
Here's the situation: program looks good, but I'm using this at work on a corporate network that I do not have access to router settings to open a port. So, I cannot use this program unfortunately. Unless you know a way to bypass using a port over the internet.
Any other program suggestions?
I know everybody hates outlook... someone has to have an easy way to sync to Thunderbird

quick google search produced this link:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/02/26/how-to-sync-your-pocket-pc-with-thunderbird-mobile-minute/
Provides info on two possible programs:
Birdiesync
FinchSync (which we already discussed)
Birdiesync, unfortunately is commercial
I'm going give finchsync a try right now
EDIT: reading the link I provided, it appears as if you dont need to access the router at all - you may need to guess a few times until you find a port thats not in use
EDIT 2: Just tried finchsync. Its a little tricky to set-up, but if you follow the directions outlined in the link I provided above, it isnt that bad. Synced my contacts in less than 15 seconds.

Not too bad! Only problem is that it doesnt know how to properly handle multiple info for one particular contact. For example, if you have a contact with multiple email addresses, finchsync will import each address as a separate contact. Clutters up the address book on the phone.
I'm going to suck it up and continue to use outlook...for now...

I'm going to fix my earlier post--TB doesnt know how to properly handle importing outlook contacts. Its an issue on TB end which caused TB to separate contact information so that I have like 2-3 of the same contacts, but with different data in each one.
If you fix all of TB's contacts (or dont import from outlook), finchsync will sync to the pda properly.

thanks for the effort, it just isn't seamless enough for me. i have to be able to connect my phone via USB, press sync and be done with it.
I'm pretty well versed in computers, and have no problem figuring out finchsync, it just isn't practical. i have over 300 contact in outlook too, and most of them have multiple emails, addresses, and contact phone number, it would take forever fixing them once imported to Thunderbird.
thanks though! i'll just have to wait for someone to make a plug-in for thunderbird that makes it "push-button" easy.
makes you wonder about the Staples Easy Button lol
If it is any consolation...I use birdiesync, and it works pretty good.
Thunderbird 3.0 is progressing along in dev, so maybe there will be better functionality going forward.
Post some message on David Ascher's blog for an enhancement request, and maybe it could become a higher priority. Or better jump in with both feet on open source product dev...it sounds like they need the free help.
If the dollar wasn't so down on its luck then birdiesync might not be such a bad deal.
Maybe you can lobby gc14, dcd, and all the other allstars here to work on Thunderbird while everyone waits for the newest thing in the cell phone world.
Can someone say "Creedence Clearwater Thread Revival?"
My two cents(or buck n' a half)
1. Thunderbird - WOW I absolutely LOVE it. HOWEVER their is one little thing that REALLY chaps my ass with it and thats syncing contacts throughout multiple computers. I've done so much googling on the subject you can't see the letters on my keys for "s-y-n-c t-h-u-n-d-e-r-b-i-r-d"
If someone has a good solution for a contact book that can sync BOTH TB and PDA's by all means throw it up here and lets get down to business.
2. Seems this little issue has trickled down to the pda world as well.
3. I'm looking for a TRUE SYNC! NOT a thunderbird workaround replacing the contacts file. Does birdie or Finch do that with the Titan/Mogul?

Completely Remove Sprint Picture Mail Account - How?

I have zero interest in Sprint Picture Mail. However, the account is sort of "hardwired" into the phone and there is no (official) way to disable it that I can find. It doesn't even show up in the list of accounts under Options in Pocket Outlook.
Does anybody know some sort of tweak to get rid of this account?
This would include...
1. Removing it from "send" options when emailing pictures (album)
2. Account chooser for Pocket Oulook
3. TF3D icon on the mail tab

I believe its an extra cab that installs after a hard reset. Try hard resetting, and stopping the customization.
If there are any Sprint cabs you want they are floating around here or ppcgeeks.

Well, that's definitely a solution, but I'd rather not have to hard reset my device. I have the settings just the way I like it now.
Does anybody know how to get rid of it after it's already installed?
just stick a peice of black tape over the portion that says picturemail on your phone...

I'd love to know how to dump this as well without a hard reset and manually adding the all the other useful cabs myself.
Thanks for posing the question, now to wait for a good answer....
Try downloading the cab from somewhere, installing it, it will say the previous version has to be removed, after it removes the previous version, hit cancel to not install the new version.
Might be worth a shot, although I don't know why you wouldn't want picture mail, it's not like you have to use it, but why remove features?

That is a good idea. I'll have to try that!
As for why, good question. I don't really know why it bothers me so much. Maybe just because I like less clutter? Maybe it's an OCD type of thing. :-D One of the first things I did was install Advanced Config and remove the sprint music/tv tabs because i didn't want to use them, even though i didn't have to use them. :-D

I'm definitely going to try that! Good idea.
As for why, I don't like the extra account when I got from my text to email accounts BUT the main reason is because it works like POO POO! I hate how it is so damn clunky in it's operation and even though I don't use it to send picmail, if I get a picmail it goes in there.
I applaud Sprint for trying but damn, try a little harder next time. I could have done without this particular crap a$$ feature.
I'm also very interested in dumping Sprint Picture Mail. Since we're limited to six accounts in Pocket Outlook, its being there keeps me from adding in another account I actually use, so it's frustrating that they would add that in by default. Tried deleting all of the registry keys, installed files etc that are done as part of the CAB installer, but it's STILL there! Haven't been able to figure out how to bypass the customization step, otherwise I'd do a HR in a heartbeat and see if skipping the CAB install would work, so still awaiting a solution to this...
i tried but sprint mail was not completely removed , i even installed the other version and it got completely installed and i could not un install it using memaid ! there should be a smarter way toget rid of this sprint B/S.
i don't think it can be removed this way.
you will need to load a custom rom without the picmail.
in the time you have wasted waiting for an easy solution you could have flashed and reloaded all of your settings.
Not everybody wants a to use a cooked ROM. You know, it really gets tiring when know-it-alls pop into threads and instead of contributing something useful just say "you should have just done x,y,z instead of doing what you actually wanted to do." It's already been established earlier in the thread that hard resetting (which running a cooked ROM requires) is not an acceptible solution. I do not appear to be alone in wanting an alternative solution. If you don't have a solution or a constructive comment, can't you just, you know, not post anything?
maan76 - Thanks for trying that method out. I've been too busy to tinker. At some point, I'm going to try scouring the registry and DLLs in \Windows\. Pocket Office is extended just like any other MS app -- through DLLs. So unless Picture Mail has been hardwired through some bizarre method or bundled together with a load of other useful features into one big unremovable DLL, I have got to think that there must be some DLL somewhere that can be unregistered somehow -- it just hasn't been discovered yet. I hope anyway! But you never know...

I echo thx2100 but will say the MAIN reasons I don't want to just run a cooked ROM right now is that the only real advantage at this time is they are light on the apps to free up ram. I come from the 6700 and 6800 and I'm in heaven with the speed and ease that the TP has when running multiple apps.
None of the new ROM's right now really dazzle me but if one comes around that is hot sh$# then I might run it.
With my stock ROM I have no surprises and only one really annoying feature which is the picmail but I can live with.
yep I totally agree thx 200,that there is no need for the cooked ROMs right now for the TP , why I am risking myself in a cooked ROM ?????????? to save RAM nop ! RAM is highhhhhhh and we have plenty of it in tp not like the mogul when the people were racing to build a ROM with higher free RAM after booting ! to save couple megabytes !, now with this strong hardware in TP , we have plenty of RAM .
the other reason which drove us before for flashing ROMs is the new applications (ex Manila for htc 6800 mogul ,u tube......etc) now we ve got the most updated versions of these software in the touch pro.
no logic reason for flashing ROMs at this moment , probably when new software will come up or super tweaks that require flashing ROMs , but definetely not now , we are still new and still learning about the Touch pro.I am seeing junior members building ROMs cause it is easy with this 288 MB RAM , I bet nobody was able to build ROMs for the Apache or the Mogul cause of the limited RAM.
we have a long way in improvement in touch pro before building ROMs.

Using MSCEInfo, I've been able to identify every registry change and file modification made by the Sprint PictureMail CAB and have undone them all to no effect. So, either some other routine is making changes related to PicMail or it's hardcoded into the ROM. Hopefully, it's not the latter...
Good luck and please let us know if you find out how to do it. I've pretty much given up and am just waiting to find a stripped down ROM for the Sprint Touch Pro that doesn't include PictureMail, Touch Guide Mobile or any of the other bloatware that Sprint decided we had to have.
Solution Removal Sprint Picture Mail
I found the solution this morning and I successfully removed the sprint picture mail and I also successfully added my yahoo mail
here what you need to do
1-install the sprint picture mail Cab
2-using resco file explorer or anything else go to windows folder
3-in resco explorer , unclick hide hidden files and unclick hilde file extensions
4-look for sprint picture mail cab , next to it you will find sprint picture mail.exe and some other files cary the same name.
5-this .exe is made by the second installation you just made not ROM related , but still you can not remove it ,for some reason.
so rename it into anything .exe , and do the same for the rest of the files including the cab , not delete them all you should be able to do so .
I did these steps exactly in that order and I opened the messages folder and I was soooo happy not seeing the picture mail account .
Good luck guys

Can you point out which specific cab you installed (was it just the one built into the TP ROM?) and which file(s) you removed to get this to work?
Also, can you confirm that this removed the Sprint PictureMail account from both the Outlook account list AND the Mail TF3D tab???

Well I seem to have completely broke my ability to get picmail so I'll hold back on any instructions. I'll do some more testing and may just have to install the freakn program again.... OR I might load up a bare bones ROM and load cab's I see fit, 1 will undoubtedly NOT make the cut.

I wonder if someone in this fantastic forun will be able to make a tab which contains facebook - like the twitter tab... would be grateful.

sure Sony Erricson has this on one of thier phones..
Whatta great idea!!!
faboulus idea... we're waiting master
i never understood why they didn't incorporate this anyway...facebook over twitter any day.
+1 This is THE missing tab...
I so want this tab too!
FB Tab
This sort of tab breaks away from what HTC intended for the Sense UI. HTC intended us to use The Favorites tab and Contacts to see all the Facebook info. you can scroll through your contacts and see all the Facebook status and go to the contact to see their albums's etc.
The only reason that Twitter isn't integrated as most people don't "Follow" their friends on Twitter, only lists, websites, blog info etc.
thats all that missing from sense 2.5 is the facebook tab. Once its in their and its runs like the iphone facebook app we will be in heaven.
This is the one thing I was thinking "Wheres the facebook tab?"
Twitter got removed as soon as I had it...facebook tab would be simply awesome!
I guess its harder to implement than a twitter tab? Surely possibly though!
It would be great if it allowed you to update your status at the top of the tab then just showed recent updates below that. Something simple and easy to use.

Groupcast support on S III and other devices

Hi,
I learnt the Groupcast feature today by chance and loved it. Me and my wife have S III, it's very useful for us. However, we also have other Samsung mobile devices (Galaxy S, Galaxy W and Galaxy Note) around and it would be great to use this feature all over these devices. Is there any chance to add the Allshare Play app to these older devices ? (At least the Note)
Has anyone tried it ?
Thx.
no ideas ?
Guys,
I really would like to ask this again since it's a nice feature and we'd like to see it on other devices as well. Am I wrong ?
I believe the note can use the allshare app... Don't know for sure, haven't tried...

I went to a Samsung event this week and saw this too. Pretty cool. Not sure what all you need to make this work, but I know it has NOT been working on my HTC EVO 4G LTE even with the ported TouchWiz 4/NatureUI launcher. Of course it probably would help if I was running a Deodexed ROM. I will try this again after I flash one of those and see if the ported SecLauncher2.apk provides enough of a framework to get any of these S-*/AllShare features to work.
From what I can tell you need at least/some or all of the following:
AllshareDMC.apk
AllshareMediaServer.apk
AllSharePlay.apk
AllshareService.apk
PhaseBeam.apk
SecMediaProvider.apk [?]
Try backing up the originals of those files on your ICS Note and then porting them.
I don't think these features work on GB as they are dependent on WiFi direct and I'm guessing Sammy's implementation for that is probably different on pre-GSIII devices.
Hope that helps!
I came across this app called Tapestry, that essentially does the same thing as Group Cast, but much much easier to use. My friends have the GSIII, and to setup a Group Cast, password and all, takes 15 clicks. With Tapestry, it only takes 3! Moreoever, it works on any Android device, not just GSIII's, so you can enjoy the experience with all your Android friends. It only supports pictures for now, but that's pretty much what I use it for anyways. Lastly, the coolest feature that Tapestry has that Group Share doesn't have it that in Tapestry, you have synchronized pinch/zoom/panning, and also direct Peer-to-peer download by swiping down on the viewer screen you immediately download the picture onto your phone! What a cool way to share photos! You can check it out here.

Disable Moto Exchange Security

I've been googling for hours and can't seem to find a real fix....
My Razr Maxx is rooted and on .215.... I do use exchange for work, and absolutely hate having to unlock my phone everytime I pick it up.
I think I've found what needs to be altered, but don't know how to do it...
There are two apps : HuxMotoEmail.apk and MoxierEasEngine.apk
I think these are the corporate email and exchange services respectively. Can one of your awesome devs figure out how to disable this and keep my stock mail client?

Not a direct solution, but Enhanced Email allows you to explicitly bypass Exchange policies. I have it and it just works like that.

I've looked into Enhanced Email, but I really like the stock app, and I've read of issues with EE not syncing correctly with the calendar and such. I know there is a way to patch Moto's stock apps, I just don't have the know-how.
And based on all the views this thread has had in just a few hours... I'm guessing there are quite a few people who want this as well.

I'd like for it to be developed... and I was trying to do it myself... but I just need a little help from the developers. It is a question, no doubt though.
Is it possible to have a moderator move this thread? (Also a question)
**EDIT.... looks like it's already done. lol.
Apps like Touchdown and Enhanced Email cost money.
There's a DIY hack for stock/AOSP Exchange email apps thread but Motorola modifies their Email program such that the hack does not work-- so does HTC. That being said, some folks did manage to hack the Mail/Exchange apps for HTC, so more than likely it is possible for Motorola phones (unless Motorola/Google have got the thing super seriously locked down).
I'm looking for a hacked version for a Motorola Droid 4 running ICS (sister phone to the Razr, so pretty sure that whatever .apk files are modified for Razr will work on the Droid 4 as well). This is the first thread I've seen that mentions both mail files by name:
(mail) HuxMotoEmail.apk and (exchange / eas) MoxierEasEngine.apk
