Stable rom - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought this phone (Sony Xperia x10) for my wife, after I smashed her Samsung galaxy S 4G during an argument last night. I ordered it overnight shipping so it should be here by Monday or Tuesday.
Now there were no custom roms out at the time she had her Galaxy 4G, so it was only rooted.
Yet after visiting the development section for this phone it looks like there are tons of roms being cooked up for this one, so I just wanted to get a few opinions on what roms are worth flashing? I'm looking for speed and stability above all. Its for my wife, so I want to be able to just flash something for her and never bother updating and flashing again for a month or two months at a time. Now if it were my phone I'd be flashing every other day! But that's only because I can handle bugs, beta testing, and known issues so on and so forth. Women though, they just want their phone to work, period. So what's the most stable rom to flash for the x10? Any insight, suggestions, heads up, and links would help, as I haven't got my hands on it yet, I want to go ahead and research as much as I can about it, so I can root, flash, and customize it for her right out of the box. Thanks.

cobratos miui is REALLY good...
Wolfbreaks cm 6.1.3 is also fantastic

I flashed cm 7 gb onto my gf's htc wildfire. Its completeley stable. She gets like 2 or 3 fc's every few days and guess what.......she still bloody moans lol.
Anyway back on topic....i vote for wolfs cm 6.1.3. Super stable, bug free and must be close to final release.

for stability i recommend z's freex10 roms
for eyecandy i recommend cobratos miui (my daily rom, fairly stable, has few bugs)
the stock 2.1 rom is not bad at all, just gotta optimize it a bit (remove bloatware, enable JIT, Sysctl, compucache, build.prop mods)....i think there are a few 2.1 roms with these mods already in place, however i havent used a 2.1 rom for a long time
if she wants take advantage of the nice camera on the x10, i recommend going the 2.1 route as the camera interface and quality is the best with stock 2.1 (IMO)

Agreed on both!

Thanks guys! I appreciate all of your feedback, and I will look into your suggestions

Give at least a look at the ROM in my signature. Fast, stable and reliable.

Since it is for your wife I recommend android 2.1. There are some nice girly themes out here for it, and she won't freak out of bugs.

Hi,
I've tested 5 roms :
-> original SE last update 2.1 : lot of lag
-> kX10 R2B001 - 03FEB1 : 2.1 rom modded : better than the official one : good but not for playing
-> 2.2.1 FROYO : very good but some bugs (like translation) and don't like the launcher, too slow for me : good for iphone lovers
-> Achotjan_Froyo_2.2.1 : 2.2.1 rom modded : the best for me : it's french lol -> Actually, found no bug, the best for me : very stable, better than the official, very fast (BB58)

MIUI are good if you like the lay out of Iphone as that is what it looks like in respects..
Irun z's freex10 2.2b4 hotfix1 and data2sd. fast realiable basic... theme it with xfx10. and your done!

+1 for z freex10 beta 4 hotfix 1
Solid as a rock and lightning quick
For a little more customization I would recommend Wolfbreaks CM6.1.3
Maybe freex10 now and CM6.1.3 in a couple of months?? Just my opinion

vote for these two also, I'm using both as my daily roms.....

Use Trips MIUI (2.2.1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013210
Its the BEST MIUI rom with fully working camera and camcorder.
I am using it as daily rom. It is super fast and smooth.

many devs says here that ROM is perfect and EVERYTHING works, the problem is the with the definition of EVERYTHING,its differnt for every dev,for major roms you cant use camcorder so cant use goggles, bar code scanner ,video cam in all settings, there are some walk troughs and ways but then you cant call it everything
just go with 2.1,modify the stock one ,thats the best option
you broke the last phone....if there are too many lags, your wife will smash the phone this time
for us its all ok,for your wife dont take any chance!!!

Not all women just want their phones to work, period Some of us can flash our own ROMs. I used z's Freex10 but prefer wolf's CM 6.1.3 since it's very fast and good on battery. However different people have different problems with the ROMs they flash and it's worth paying attention to instructions

I strongly recommend you take look at this thread: talk.sonyericsson.com/message/59415 . It has many good ROM's for the X10 with some good feedback.
I have personally tried the stock ROM with JIT enabled and removed bloatware (did everything needed to make it quick) it worked good but the battery life sucked. Then tried FreeX10 and its pretty good and quick but yet again battery life wasn't any better than the stock one. Then tried CM by Wolfbreak and its pretty darn good. Battery life is def better and so is speed.
Im going to be honest with you none of these ROM's are even close to perfect. They all have slight bugs, all force close once in a while.
So here's my advice, if your wife isnt exactly tech savy + likes to use features such as the camera and wifi alot than stick to the stock ROM and wait for SE's update this year.
If she is a problem solver (isnt afraid of using google to solve any problems she has) and doesnt want a phone that lags to often and has good battery life than go for Wolfbreaks CM 6.1.3. Although wifi and camera can pose problems sometimes on this ROM
Hope this helps

[Q] Most stable Froyo Rom?

I've been reading through this for a while and can't seem to find any info on this, of course...it could be due to lack of sleep, but who's counting the hours??
SO...Which of the Froyo Roms out there are the Best/working as far as features go? Running 2.1 Update 1 on mine currently...With xRecovery installed.
I like renderio2005 rom with a gingerbread theme. I had very little problems with it.
But like gingerbread better. Just an opinion

Right - But isn't there still a couple issues with things working on the Gingerbread roms for this phone?
I'm using Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 V4.3 [06-03-11] [Tweaked+Theme+Extras]. For me, its very very stable. Didn't give me any problems until now.
Renderios rom is 2.2. If u were wondering

Me too, seems to run good and has good features
Z's Free X10 Beta 4 is probably the most popular and very stable. Other than the camera app and no camcorder, I did not have any problems.

+1 except for the camera (known issue with all froyo's as far as I can tell).
So is the gingerbread ROM thats out there just as stable as the froyo roms? And are you guys flashing these over with xRecovery?
Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 V4.3 is very stable, fast and highly recommended
I use the native camera with no issues and use Vignette if I need to use the camera flash.
I also use the version of Videocam Illusion in the link below for video recording which has been tweaked by the developer to run on our Froyo based X10 roms. The quality isn't great but it's better than not having any video recording facility:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984925
Lmao you can tell what I'm using by my sig
Yeah I love this ROM, especially with all the added customization you can do through the CyanogenMod Settings Menu, such as change LED colors and easily change themes, it makes it a great ROM :]
Camera works and to take video, you have to use Videocam Illusions with only records in 640x480. But I can deal with that.
question, anyone notice X10's battery drain a lot faster with Froyo roms?
in comparison to stock 2.1 rom

Yeah I've kinda noticed this as well. I suppose its kinda understandable since the froyo roms run a hair faster you know?
-----
From X10 XDA App on Wolfbreak's CM6.1v4 Froyo 2.2.1
No battery drain on Free X10 Beta 4, for me anyway. I'd say the same or even slightly better.
Im pretty sure that I'm running the Generic 2.1 Update 1 on mine now, The only issue I've got is I'm picking up 4G Speeds throughout Colorado (except up here in the hills) and I'd be more concerned with loosing that when going to one of the custom ROM's...
Could just be me, But this phone SCREAMS when you get that lovely little "H" on the signal bar! Dunno - Maybe I'll try it since I backed up my stock ROM yesterday with xRecovery...We'll just have to see, but it sounds like Wolfbreaks ROM is the best one out there next to the Free Beta4 one...
Thanks for all the input
I use CyanogenMod-6.1.1-v03 and have done for several weeks now, its really stable with a few issues, like the camera (common problem for most roms) and bluetooth sometimes acts a little weird when I try to pair it with my MW600 headset.
Battery drainage is normal, but I use a extended battery with 2600mAh instead of original, so its hard for me to compare.

You still get HSPA. If you think your phone flies now, wait until you try 2.2. We would not be on it if it was slower. Speed is basically what you are getting by giving up a fully functional camera and other customizations.
I switch between FreeX10 beta4 and rendeiro's cm6.1.3 and would say they're both pretty stable. I don't have a problem with either one for daily use. I switch back to modded 2.1s for camera and camcorder.

[Q] Which is the best Custom ROM?

I'm only a month old Androidian... and within a month I leant a lot frm XDA about installing custom rom/rooting and using new themes etc...
But I am really lost at one point ... which custom Rom is the best one and is flawless... i mean some times im really confused bet the top ROM maker's ... I knw that everybdy's workin hard to make a best out of it....
but I would really like 2 knw who's using which custom ROM tht's been used by maximum number of users and whch seen flawless (at least fast and 90% flawless)
Everyone has different tastes, so you should try a few roms to choose the one that you think it's better.
You must keep in mind that no rom is 100% perfect and there are always little flaws. When I install a custom rom, I always do a few tweaks here and there and add or remove that I like or dislike.
I've tried Exynos, Cognition, Villain, SkyRom and Lite'ning. To my taste, Villain and Lite'ning are the best, with Exynos in second place. FYI, Now I'm on Villain 2.1 with Ninphetamine 2.0 Kernel and KG2 modem, just to try something different to Lite'ning 3.1.
I'm eagerly waiting for MIUI and Cyanogen to become stable, but in the meantime I'm switching between the aforementioned roms.
I feel that Cyanogen is one of the most stable roms out there, even though they're nightlies. No sudden reboot, excellent batterylife, not to mention the huge amount of tweaks and settings built in..

For now I am staying (and thus voting) "original stock ROM".
This will very likely change once CM7 is finished for the SGS2
But its still early days of i9100 and every now n thn a new official stock rom is release or I must say "leaked" (thanks 2 samfirmware) .....
n it really sux whn after installing latest cf-root n custom rom , theme and backup restoration setting Home widgets your own way everthing ... which sometime takes many days to settle.
... and after doing all that @SamFirmware tweets that a new I9100 firmware is leaked... and then forgetting all the hardwrk we did to make i9100 stylish n fast, we start refreshing XDA forum to see whether smbdy has released a custom rom or not ?
n the Impatient ones takes backups via titanium and wipes everything and get back to Stock Rom to see the diff (deliberately ignoring the fact tht titanium restore will work only after rooting) ...
Its really a fact... tht happen with most of the ppl...
After trying various Roms in last few months... I stay with either Villain ROM OR Official ROM (CF Rooted ) .... hope that if some day it could be dual booted like my PC is.
I stick with the official ROM and customize it to my own needs.
I love MIUI as I love to heavily customise look and feel with ease.

i agree with you
Cyanogenmod definitely. I never was one to enjoy being tied down to OEM software which were uncompatible with each other.
If you want a custom custom rom check out Insanity II... quick, stripped down, bare bones, no non-sense. Since you only run essentials it ups your battery life by quite a bit.
On Sammy ROMs Cognition and Darky are very stable and have decent battery life.
CM7 is highly customizable but you miss certain features like A2DP, FM radio, better camera , hi def videos that are part of Samsung ROMs. Some of these features are being worked upon and would be available whenever the stable version comes out.
Some people have better battery life on CM7. strangely it is not the case with me.
MIUI is cute but a big battery drain.
overall there is no best ROM or anything . you try different ROMs and use the one that suits your needs.
I'm using leomar 2.6 with nimpho 2.1.3 and it goes very smooth.. Battery goes for 2days (ofc that depends..) and in general works for me. Plus you can customize it and make it as you like through his kitchen with mods, themes etc.

[Q] MiniCM7 Pro v15 feeling very slow

Just installed MiniCM7 Pro v15. Did all the usual stuff for installation(which usually turns out great). Also flashed back to the stock kernel(link for download provided in the MiniCM7 Pro dev thread) but the rom feels really slow. Like syrup so to speak. Any one else having this problem? Possible solution/fix?
Would have posted as commentary in the MiniCM7 Pro dev thread, but haven't posted enough posts yet to post in dev forum
-6u4rdi4n
I'm in the same situation, I'm not able to post at the dev forum because of my few posts, but, thank god i finally found someone with the same frustration than me
I've been expecting a more stable version of the MiniCM7 Pro than the V9, and seems like, every version that comes out brings more and more problems.
Seems so. Noticed more having performance issues with the new version. Good recommandation: GinTonic.SE v2 with the zombie panic kernel. Fast as hell ^^ Been testing it for a while now, and seems very stable and reliable

Thank you, I'll give it a try after work. Cuz i'm getting tired of CM7 Pro
well i'm still sticking to v12 (cause v13 14 15 have serious issues). it's fast it's stable it's battery life is amazing. everything works what i'm using without a hitch. Dunno what else i'm expecting from later versions ... but still i'm waiting it's now like a disease for me
Me too. No offence to the devs, but the rom is looking hopeless at the moment. Love the themes on it tho
i don't have anything against devs they are doing a good job. it's we who are getting impatient so don't start blaming them for this and remember what they already did for our minis when i installed v12 i thought i got a new phone. other roms work good and are really fast and stable but MiniCM7 pro satisfied all my needs.
No one is blaming the devs. But as you said, pretis, we are getting impatient. All of the devs have done a great job, but now, the MiniCM7 Pro is really messed up
You guys have encouraged me to give it a chance to V12, I'm alredy downloading it, I'll tell you later if everything is going well, and by the way, I'm not blaming the devs, they're doing an amazing job, I can't even think of myself using Android 2.1 again in my cellphone, any rom with bugs is waaaay more better than that.
I'll install V12 and wait until a more stable version is released.
P.S. I'm dying to have 10 posts to be able to thank the devs in the dev forums.
Thank you all I don't feel alone on this.. I've spend 1 week testing almost every gingerbread release from CMpro, DX & gin tonic, using the lasts kernel each time... and the more I'm testing the more I consider it is not usable on a daily basis. Main concerns to me are:
- battery life, compared to stock, it's difficult to keep 24h where stock is no issue with same sync/option on ...
- it lags! sometime it's lightning fast to go to home page and switch to the phone app, sometime you wait ages ...
- screen brightness is a mess (even If I've check multiple option and the posts about setting up custom level) still compared to stock SE, when you're out in the street on a shiny day you wait ages for the screen to adapt, where the stock 2.1 just works perfectly
- delay for lock screen or schema screen to show, with brightness issue... When you click on the on button on the stock, the screen just light up with good brightness and you can slide, on the 2.3.x, it lag and then brightness is slow to go tot the right level and then you can slide ...
- video capture, lag, when you film, capture freeze sometimes ...
- FM radio issues: frequencies written in unreadable green, name of station overlapping with freq.
All these to say, after more than 35 flash or all Dx, CMpro & GT from v8 to v15, feeling is that it's getting worst ... That's said, I'm more than happy to do those testing, yet I was wondering if any of you guys are really using those ROM on a daily basis without a second phone aside ?
I've turned back to 2.1 with go launcher and titanium backup to remove all SE crap tool/software and I'm quite happy with the phone ... I'll wait for 2.3.5 to be brightness bug free and battery proof.
Regards,
Benoit
benoitm974:
For brightness, adjust it manually. Not only does it save power(if you set it to not more than you need at all times), but you also more or less get the light you need instant.
At the moment, Im using the lastes GinTonic with the zombie panic kernel, and I have to say that Ive not encountered any problem with it yet!
Even the lifetime of the battery is superior to the stock rom, and I tried a lot with the stock one before going for custom rom permanently.
This phone is used on a day to day basis and the only second phone I have avaible is somewhere in my basement

Too many roms and threads to sift through... which is the "best"?

I just bricked my Vibrant trying to install one rom through Odin. I sent it off to get repaired and should have it back tomorrow.
Which rom should I be attempting to install? I use to install maybe 3-5 roms every time I was going to change or "upgrade" but that gets old.
I'm not sure with the 2.2.1 or 2.3 roms but with 2.2 you can't go wrong with Project V or Bionix.

Those are both great 2.2 roms and they got me through many months of vibrant useage, I have nothing but respect for the devs but they are a little bit outdated simply due to the fact that the teams are working on other projects currently.
Like I said they are good but here is my breakdown (my preferences are to have to to as little as possible on the spot fixes, in a perfect world no fixes would be cool but it would take so so so much work and the Devs that make these roms are already awesome enough to do this in their spare time for us vibrant users. But I do prefer when fixes or tweaks are in the op that are known to be compatible)
NONE OF THIS IS OUT OF ANY DISRESPECT TO ANY DEV, I JUST WANT TO HELP PEOPLE FIND A GOOD ROM FOR THEM.
For 2.2 :
I would say Toxic Crazy 8, They are very fast but as with many 2.2 roms it has a bug where there's no voice mail notification icon. This may be no big deal to you as there are many workarounds including the use of aps like visual voicemail.
Zendroid does not have the voicemail issue but does freeze up and get laggy during heavy use (for me at least).
2.2.1. :
For 2.2.1 Bi-Winning is a solid rom. It hasnt been updated for a while so it may not have all the tweaks of newer roms but it is fast and stable. I personally missed having any skin or smiley's in my sms. This is something that can be altered by a user but I am reviewing based on an out of the flash experience.
Jrafaels Port of Ultimate is awesome! The only thing I had to do was download launcher pro and I was set and stable. Very Fast! super quick on aplication loading!
Froyo Kernels :
For speed and battery life combined, my favorite was immortality 2.2.
The dev has switched to GB now so no more updates but its great and stable as is.
For all out battery and a small sacrifice in multitasking speed Bali, I forget which specific version but its the one that will come with Toxic Crazy 8.
Gingerbread:
I have never flashed a Samsung made rom (JVS, JVR, the upcoming JVT etc..) This is partly due to complication of installation for me as well as being scared off by reading about some difficult bugs in the forum. If I was not planning on buying Tmobiles sgs2 asap I would be playing with them. I really liked explodingboys froyo roms (simply galaxy) as well as EDT's members roms but as I stated I'm apprehensions to attempt a flash. (once i bricked because I missed some op instructions on simply honey)
CM7.1 and Nightlies :
These are less intimidating to try than they seem when first reading the op. Cyanogenmod is really cool and impressive, instead of rebuilding a samsung (or any brands) rom they made their own. Its really high caliber work and I will not be at all surprised if I see Cyanogen mod powering one or more future STOCK Samsung devices.
However, with nightlies you cant dial 911 for an emergency. this is an experimental build so DONT GET MAD AT THE DEV, but it still freaks me out enough to not use it as a daily driver.
my Number 1 ROM is ::::::::: MIUI stock version
I must add that every current version of MIUI is pretty stable and amazing. The reason I want to be stock MIUI for now is because the PowerMod System Enhancer (currently MIUI exclusive) will litterally make your phone about twice as fast and better battery of around 10 to 14 hours depending on usage, some may get more.
I have tried MIUI 3 times and the first two were in june and august of this year. Since then it has become stable enough for use as a daily driver. Play with the themes app for a bit and understand what customization really is
Tweaked kernel V2 is great for speed as well as battery on MIUI.

GPS : It is important to know that many (myself included, ive had it in three vibrants) have a hardware defect that makes GPS not work. From what I can remember from some old forum that i couldnt find today, the GPS chip is touching something else on the inside and it screws it up. There are hardware fixes but much like adding a FFC I am WAYYYY to scared to try that stuff hahah
****
BIGGEST THING : READ EVERY OP CAREFULLY, THEY ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME INSTRUCTIONS AND I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING NOTES WHILE READING BECAUSE YOU DONT WANT TO BE LOOKING AT A RECOVERY SCREEN TRYING TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO NEXT
I may post this in another section if I see people with similar questions so please dont get mad at me xda as I said I just want to help, you can let me know if I did with the Thanks Button.
I gave up on GPS a long time ago, If I need a GPS, I use my Garmin if I am that lost anyway, I will be way out of TMobile range...
NextGenV2 by team whiskey rocks for me with the Bullet Kernel
I have recently swtiched to Simply Stock 2.3.5 ( JVT ) it is wicked fast!! if you follow the directions.. use the BG Bootloaders.. and put them on with Odin 1.85.. format your mounts on each flash ( the cache, system and data) you will be a ok...
hmm well if you managed to brick via odin to the point of having to get a replacement then i don't recommend any of the 2.3 roms based on Samsung since they all require a GB Bootloader for CWR and rainbow fixing.
Froyo recommendations are the same as what the prior posters said. as far as Gingerbread goes i recommend Miui there are currently 3 flavors in the development sub forum Revamped, & Lithium by Nick and his Production 360 Group, and Stock Miui

bionix v and the bali 1.8.8 kernel and ur good to go.
Miui *stock* (based on Android 2.3.5) in my opinion is the best. It's very easily customizable and updated every week! All you have to do is open the updater app to update, no need to fiddle with CWR and no PC necessary... You should at least try it, i'm sure you won't regret it.

[Q] can someone please help me out ?

hello there well im new to this android thing
i got x10 for a cheap price
and i have to say its a good phone
but well the in call volume is too low
while browsing and searching the x10 forums i found out
that there are some roms that can fix that issue
so whats the best rom for x10
btw its rooted
MODEL number : x10i
Android version : 2.3.3
Baseband version: 2.1.7.1
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00054-g5f01537 [email protected]#1
Build number: 3.0.1.G.0.75
Depending on your taste, it boils down to stock based, cyanogenmod, or miui. I prefer miui for many reasons, I use it for my business and its been very usefull. You can get roms that are for gaming, or ones with all the stock bells and whistles like facebook and timescape but to say which is best is tough.
Im using Oodies miui 1.11.4 and I love it, but if I still had a locked bootloader I would use cobratos because his froyo miui was the best and so I trust hes very good. I think you should try miui, but Im biased. Just make sure you read the original post start to finish and follow it carefully, avoid yourself some trouble and unnecessary posts for help. The x10 when properly modded is awesome and saves you from buying the new expensive phones for now, this phone can do alot when rooted have fun.
thank you that was really helpful
i found that thread about
Best performance and best look for your x10!
it got a rom by someone called Oodie
i like that rom the looks and they say it will fix the in call volume
but i wonder if its gonna work on my phone i dunno how to apply it
I have to agree with Bugly. You will get a headache if you were to attempt to figure out which ROM is best. A difficult task indeed. I strongly believe that it all boils down to personal preference my friend. Assuming you are locked BL, if you desire customization then go with MIUI based ROM. If you want the very basic, very dependent, user friendly, and contains all the bells and whistle then go with Wolf's take on the GB firmware.. Again, it all boils down to personal preference bud. You will have fun with this phone. Rooting opens many doors bro. Get at it.
Oh hey some tips to look out for.
-Look for ROMS that come prerooted (In most cases, most ROMs do)
-Review the features of the kernel being used in the ROM.
-Remove your FPScaps immediately and enjoy super speeds bro (Most ROMS support the FPS uncap hack, but you can flash the actual FPS hack yourself via xrecovery. If anything, I will attach the zip. to this comment.)
- With constant experimenting come constant trials and errors. You will run into walls and get stuck from time to time. Always make a backup of your current ROM and DATA.
@venix10
Root your phone and take the time to learn how to unlock Bootloader with Flashtool! Then it's easy to shift between different 'flavors'.
I have always been a great fan of WolfBreak, but like MIUI as well. WolfBreak has better battery, while MIUI has a lot of themes...
Bugsy
I used wolfbreaks roms back in the froyo days, they are top quality but in all honesty Id say ewjet is probably better overall, and would be my next choice after MIUI. The main thing about MIUI I like isnt just the themes, its the nicely done contacts and sms UI, along with the unbeatable pull down curtain that has all your toggles, so many to list I cant see anyone not liking it.
ok and since you guys had the x10 for a longtime i guess
is there a solution for the low in call volume ? is there some sort of a fix
There is a ´addon´ called xLoud, it really up your volume. But, i suggest to stay away .. cause can damage your louder/phone sound.
yeah i heard of it but are there any other ways
and another thing
i heard about the bravia engine what it do what are the pros and the cons of it

I totally agree! Oodie's Prime 4.1 is the best I have tried! 93% Deep Sleep last night... Say no more...
WB is by no means bad, but compared to MIUI looks a bit "old"...
