I've been having issues for a month or two and it seems as though I've finally discovered that usually once they start, the highest assigned IP address has always been 192.168.0.11..
Even when I go into the terminal and change my mac address,I still can't get a different IP. Doing the same on my pc and the router is passing out offers in the 20's... Its the story of my life, any fixes??
PS, is it possible to attain closed networks password key with an android?
Is any one out there able to verify if this is or isn't true?
It certainly seems to be the case on hero with both a 2.2 and a 1.5 rom, with what ever router is attached to some open wireless network that I can't afford at the moment.

If you look carefully at the IP address 192.168.0.11, it's a wrong IP, check here for those router default IP addresses.

i have an issue with my wifi connection, but only in one specific place.
Here goes: I can connect and use wifi everywhere(without any problem), but not at my friends house. Wifi connects without a problem, but after that i cannot use it (can't download from market, can't surf, etc.). It says there is an internet connection failure, altough i'm still connected.
I know for sure there isn't a problem with routers, modems, networks, etc. coz i setup his network myself (exactly the same as al the other networks i use) So in this there cannot be a problem. My friend can connect his iphone4, my wife can with S+, even a guy with an ACE can connect and use, except for me and my ACE.
Already reset router, modem and phone (even other firmware), but still nothing!
Hope somebody can help with this, coz i'm really bugged out on this one.

Check if u have a WPA protection.. My ACE doesnt work with Wifi with WPA pwd..

Try this:
Go to Wifi Settings, select the hotspot you are connecting to, forget the connection, restart ACE, connect to the hotspot again by entering the password

Hmm, strange i can't download either. Nothing, not even textdocuments always get message "download failed".
Try to find out from this other Ace which modem he has installed. Check yours as well. If they are different, it can be a clue...

Nope, already tried this like 100 times, but thnx.
Gonna try a diffrent way now. Trying it with some tweaks in build.prop, a tweakscript, implemend a dns-server file and gonna mess around with wep/wpa again.
Hope this will workout.
Will report back in a day or 2.

Check on router setting the ip address your phone is using is not bind to another device,s mac address this is on the router settings something like ip & Mab binding.
It could be the ip you are trying to use alocated for use by another device only.
However u will be able to connect to the router it will show in the router you phone is connected and alsoshow in wifi on the phone you are connected but you will NOT be able to connect to the internet.

You can set another ip address manually for phone first find out what routers ip address is
normally 192.168.1.1 is default for lots of routers then see router has DHCP
enabled this means router issues ips to devices. if it is enabled the leave your phone as is and check on the router under ip & Mac binding see if it is enabled UNanble u can always put it back
even better see on router what ip your phone is using then checxk in ip & mac binding that it is not assigned to another device for use. if it is u can delete that binding.

for example say your phones mac adress is 12:34:56:78:90:00 and you assign or give it ip adress 192.168.1 10 then in theory only your phone can use this ip. THIS not always the case depends on what make router. Whilst we are at that what is your router model.

Is anyone aware of an app that I can install on my Nexus One, that when used in conjunction with a server app on a pc, will allow me to see the IP address's of my PC's on my phone. I realize this will most likely only work when my phone is on the same network.
The reason I ask is that I have an old laptop running Boxee hooked up to an old CRT TV(can't afford a newer LCD TV). This works fine for watching video's, but the image quality is such that trying to do anything else such as web browsing(Hulu) or system updates is damn near impossible. So if I have to do anything other than Boxee, I'm just going to VNC into the system. The problem is that the router does not allow for setting up static IP's, and it's not my router so I can't install DD-WRT on it, and it also has a habit of changing the client's IP address in the middle of a session. So if I could install a small server app on the PC that would broadcast it's current IP address, I could then easily pull it up on my phone.
Network Mapper by Ian Hawkins does what u want. And it doesnt need a server app.
Another option is to define a static IP without even involving the router. Just set the IP, gateway, netmask, and DNS servers on your boxee laptop manually, and it will continue to work even without the routers consent! The router isn't likely to be smart enough to actually map the addresses it handed out to the traffic it is routing, so it will just blindly pass the traffic.
Chances are, the router is set up to hand out addresses within a certain region - 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150, or something like that. Most of the time, they will just forward all traffic that is in the entire 192.168.1.x range (or at least some reasonable subnet) What you can do is pick an address that won't be handed out by DHCP (192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.250 or something), and set that manually on boxee. You'll be able to tell pretty quickly if it works! On the off-chance that the router DOES care, you can also try picking an address that is within the range of addresses being handed out, but on the upper end. Realistically, those almost never get used!
Static IP support on the router is nice because you don't have to do any configuration on the client, but if you're willing to put that configuration in (one time), you can get the same results. Worth trying out! That's what we all used to do before routers got fancy (and hacked) to include those cool features.
dyndns updater keeps it in sync and you can always log in online and see your ip address if your router has randomized it

Rooted Thunderbolt - Connect to wifi quit working
I recently purchased a used rooted Thunderbolt. So far I've only used it on wifi networks and had no issues. Yesterday, when I try to turn the wifi on it never turns on and at some point it ultimately says error. I did some looking around and found that turning the wireless router off and then back on can often take care of this. I did this and it resolved the problem.
I'm having the same issue today only this time turning the router on and off doesn't solve the problem.

I once had the same issue with a Droid Incredible, however, after a few days it started working again without me doing anything (intentionally) to resolve the problem.h
Does anyone have any suggestions?
The receiver might be going out but you could try flashing a different kernel or rom. Someone else just posted that their receiver went out.

I think I'll install OSMonitor tomorrow and see if it gives any clues what is going on.
I found some suggestions at techrepublic.com blog titled "smartphones/troubleshoot-wi-fi-connections-on-your-android-phone/" [I'm new to this forum so I can't post a link or Figure B]"
There are a couple suggestions about changes in the wireless/advance settings. One is to select Proxy and make sure the phone is not set up for a proxy. The post is a few years old and I don't see this option on my phone. The other is to set a static IP Address which again I don't see as an option:
"6. Tap Advanced (Figure B).
7. Tap the Proxy setting and make sure your Android device is not set up for a Proxy. (Unless the Wi-Fi network you are on requires a Proxy, this setting will get in the way of your device's access to the Internet.) If you tap on Proxy and see an IP address or domain, delete it.

Most likely the Proxy and Port settings will not be set, but it's always good to check if you're having frequent issues with Wi-Fi.
Static IP address
Another troubleshooting approach is to give your Android device a static IP address. This could reveal if the router you are trying to connect to is having issues with handing out DHCP addresses, or if your device is getting a bad address. To configure a static IP, tap Use Static IP and then fill in the settings (IP Address, Gateway, Netmask, DNS).
The only issue with setting up a static IP is that address will apply to all wireless networks, so only use this for troubleshooting if you just connect to one Wi-Fi network."

I have a rooted HTC Thunderbolt. It is running NuSenseROM_ReBorN_5.2_040813. I am having the same problem with the wifi not turning on.
I've run: logcat > /sdcard/logcat.txt and I've attached the log file.
If I run: ifconfig wlan0, I get:
wlan0: No such device
Anyone have any suggestions?
For 3 days I've been trying to fix the 'unstable internet connection' on my phone to no avail. Finally I found a fix. This hasn't been listed anywhere I've seen and I've been researching this non-stop for days.
Go to your wifi connection and see what your IP address is. Then check your other devices. The IP address on the phone I was having the problem on was different from every other device in my house.
THE FIX
Choose your wifi network, tap and hold it. Choose modify. Then choose 'show advanced options. Under proxy settings choose manual. Under IP settings coose Static. You'll now be able to manually enter your IP address. As for the proxy host name, proxy port, and bybass proxy for, I just entered something random.
When I restarted my phone for the first time the 'unstable connection' part came back and I had to disconnect and reconnect and it was fine again.

Does this work if you're on a dynamic IP network? What about if you're switching regularly between open and closed networks? This perhaps resets the WiFi. I've looked at advanced settings before, but this happens with mainly open networks, and I believe that these typically have dynamic IP addresses. The protected network in my home is rarely an issue, but open networks are what give me fits.
No harm in trying, and if it works, that'd be awesome. I'm wondering if done once it fixes all such issues that one encounters, or must be done with every new network.
@freeza has a fix in the works in the form of a kernel, and so far, it's pretty solid. The only issue I've found is that if ya flash anything, you have to reflash the fix. Odd, but does the job.

For this to really work, you'd need to do more than the OP states. ALL basic home routers/access points come setup with DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol) which assigns IP addresses from numbers it keeps in a "pool". If you manually force your phone to use an IP (lets say 192.168.1.15) then leave the network (you go on some business trip) - and in the mean time, one of your kids adds some other device, or simply reconnects a device that hadn't been on the network for a while. After a certain period (the "lease" period of the IP), the router will put that IP BACK into the pool of available IPs. And since nearly all routers assign IPs bottom up (lowest to highest), if 15 is the next available number - you're toast. You come home, your phone tries to connect on 192.168.1.15 and gee- sorry - your son's PSP is on that IP.
For this to be a workable long-term solution, you'd have to enable static IPs within the router (a better way to do it anyway - that's how I have my network setup). You would simply go into the router, and tell it which IP to give to a device based on that device's MAC address.
Just figured I'd throw this out there because if an IP collision happens, the 2nd device in will simply get nothing - don't want someone tossing their phone out a window when it suddenly won't connect to a home network.
