which one do you prefer???
to me mini dolphin loads quicker than HD.
I prefer Mini, HD just seemed to bloated and slow for me. I didn't really need all those plug ins. Though I've actually switched to Miren Browser myself, seems a little faster than Dolphin.
opera browser is a lot smoother and quicker in my opinion

Firefox used to be my favorite.
but now i switch to Dolphin HD, more fun and customizable.
If comes to only Dolphin.
Then i prefer HD with powerful add-ons and fast loading.
I still use the Stock browser for most. Firefox was my undisputed reigning champion of my internet browsing. But Bolt Browser comes out swinging pretty hard. Esp for being a Alpha build. It's almost to nice.
I've also pretty much just used the stock browser for the most part. I'm curious though...haven't tried many of these 3rd party browsers, i.e. Dolphine, Opera...mostly just because I haven't seen a need to. The stock one works well IMO, but if the alternatives are even better then why not...? What are the major benefits of these other browsers? Different features and faster page loading?

Opera Mini and Dolphin mini lack alot of features, like flash for example. But they are blazing fast. Firefox is really quick and has 1:1 desktop syncing. Bookmarks, passwords, user names EVERYTHING is 1:1. But it only supports flash lite. I cannot speak for Dolphin HD or the other one that was mentioned i've never used them. Skyfire is quick and has a-lot of plug ins.

There is no "best browser". I prefer stock, but the next person will prefer something else and the next something else etc..
It's no big deal to install a browser and use it for a few days, so just try them yourself and find the best one for you. After all, isn't that the best one?
IMO best browser is Stock, it supports GPU acceleration. Next best is Dolphin HD. I'd prefer even Mozilla over Opera.
Dolphin HD can do way more than stock browser but has no hardware acceleration which I'm only missing when playing flash content (videos that don't open in the video player). Despite that I can only recommend Dolphin HD!

Try them all tho. I Used xScope for ages but switched to mirren and love it.

Tried Mirren, gotta say it's a fantastic browser, definitely my next best after Stock. Tried a 1080p YT video as well, it's working well, not as smooth as Stock but still not pathetic like others. Does it support GPU acceleration?

Same here, I'm still rather new here, so can't post the link. Its spelt Miren, and can be found in the android market for free. Ignore the odd untranslated Chinese dialogue here and there =)

opera works fine for me as well since I use it on my pc and sync everything between them via opera link.. also good for browser based downloads..

There IS a best browser, and it's Opera Mobile (not the mini).
Super smooth, on-the-fly switching of user agent (desktop/mobile), plays 720p video in flash on huge webpages and doesn't even hickup (full hw acceleration)
+ You get stuff like automatic sync/backup, opera turbo, adjustable zoom/appearance/etc.
Oh and it's 100% free.
Stock is very nice too, but definitely lacks features of Opera.

stock ftw! next should be skyfire though. opera has some nice animation but not really stable in terms of connection for me.

Load a complex webpage like www.anandtech.com or www.engadget.com and see how smoothly it scrolls, it should be extremely smooth. Opera mobile is the smoothest browser on my captivate, but on the sgs2 even the stock one should be very smooth.
A bit off topic:
Can anyone of you explain why the stock browser lags terribly in recent releases of Lite'ning and other ROM's?
And why bringing up the keyboard seems to eliminate the lag...?

Something is going wrong when it Browser.apk is deodexed.
Bringing back the .odex file fixes the problem.
That's why it works fine on stock.

Yeah Opera Mobile supports it too. I just played Buck Bunny 1080p video on youtube. This is the only browser I can use for download files from filesharing sites.
Dolphin HD v6.0 has support for hardware acceleration also. Played 1080p Flash videos just fine.

I think so too. And Dolphin has better rendering than Opera. Am I right?
Dolphin Browser uses WebKit, same rendering engine like the stock browser does.
Opera Mobile uses own rendering engine, Presto. Both will fail if page was designed for IE. Otherwise all browser should perform well. Render quality is the same.
Opera is faster then Webkit in own webkit performance test frameworks, so it is worth trying.
are you sure opera is hardware accelerated? it was my understanding that opera was just coded in c++ rather than the java virtual machine. but not actually hardware accelerated. i could be wrong though.
Just did a search and it's confirmed for Dolphin HD. Added in version 4.5. Only did the search after reading posts here but i wanted confirmation.
"Hardware accelerated" is a somewhat vague term. In this context I think it refers to whether or not the webpage is rendered as a texture which the GPU than scales when the user zooms or whether it's rendered as pixels which are then redrawn by the CPU, when the user zooms.
Video is a different matter - just because the video is decoded and scaled by the GPU, it doesn't mean that the pages are rendered as textures.

Thanks for the explanation. The main reason why I asked this question is I have difficulty choosing between Opera, Dolphin and Stock. Since hardware acceleration is not an issue, I think I may stick to dolphin.
Idc which as long as it not the htc one x(too expensive I surf the web the most and i need a silky smooth browser like the iphone. Tried Stock ics browser on the galaxy nexus today and its not even CLOSE to ios safari.
Try Dolphin, Chrome, Boat, Maxathon, Firefox.

Are you talking about the phone or browser app?
If you're on a budget try the HTC Desire HD, great surfing speeds and note that it isn't 4G.
If your really serious get a 4G phone but please note that it is very limited in different countries (Australia currently only has one 4G phone).
Browser app: Dolphin, Firefox, Chrome etc. There are tons to choose from but I really recommend Google stock browser (Chrome) or Dolphin if you REALLY hate stock.
Boat browser is one of the fastest (try the regular, not the mini one).
I'd say you have to aim for 200 + euro phones. The ones with 1ghz+ cpu like xperia neo v, Huawei x5 pro etc

I noticed the Samsung Galaxy SII browser is very smooth, not only because of it's cpu, but also because it's programmed to also use gpu accelerated rendering.
But for a standalone browser, i'd recommend Opera, it's very fast.

Its smooth only when it has ICS, otherwise its not very smooth. ICS came with improved browser.

I love android but I hate the browsers for it. I have a Galaxy s2 running on ICS. half of its ram is always available. IThe phone itself is never slow or anything, and I only have 3 apps running at the same time max, so I know its the browsers.
Ok. Why are the browsers for Android so bad? The only good browsers is the stock browser and opera mini. Stock is faster than Chrome, Dolphin, Firefox, and all the others. I find it weird how stock browser is faster than Chrome, considering that on PC it has no competition for speed.
ALL of the other browsers scrolling and pinch to zoom are slow and laggy compared to stock and Opera mini. Why? Opera mini's UI and scrolling is instant, why are none of the other android browsers have a fast and instant UI? The stock browser comes in second but it isn't instant like Mini. They all take a second in the UI and some of them have laggy scrolling. Why are they like this? My phone is fast and has lots of free ram. Is it just Android in general? Because iOS is closed and optimized and have none of these issues while web browsing.
