I just want a stable, reliable experience. - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just want to know what I should do to get a solid Kernel and rom. I don't care about speed (well, to an extent), I just don't want to have to pull my battery and keep getting force closes and ****.
Right now I'm on evil fascination with PB&J

EC01 leak worked great for me.. didnt have any problems n it was fully bloated!! updating to community here in a few.. good luck!!

I used to be on voodoo but I had nothing but problems... is it more stable now?

All of the big ROMS right now should give you stable performance. If they don't, odds are you neglected a step along the way. If you really want to be sure you wiped everything unmount everything in CWR and format it (expect your SD card). Then pick up the EB01 (or earlier) Odin set with a pit file and repartition your phone while flashing back.
Then flash whatever ROM you desire.

CWM issues on FroYo...

No matter which FroYo Release I try, "Fix-permissions" doesnt seem to work properly. Regardless of what i try, it only fixes permissions for the CWM app itself. So its shows two lines of text for CWM, and its done. Any one know why this is happening?
Ps- I've tried completely un installing CWM and deleting its folders and everything associated with it but to no avail. I'm out of ideas...

I take it that everyones ClockWork's "Fix-Permissions" works perfectly fine? Any input would be nice. THanks
You need to get into the actual clockwork recovery and fix perm there. So, open ROM manager, select reboot into recovery, select re-install packages, clockwork recovery should boot up, then goto advance options at the bottom of the list and select, then you should see the fix perm option about half way down the list, select it and your done.
I have the same problem. I'm thinking it's to do with CWM needing to be updated for the vibrant. Since there is no current 2.2 official/supported release it will not be updated as of yet. I haven't contacted koush(dev), but I'm sure he knows.
Even if you do go directly into CWR you can select it, but it doesn't seem to scroll the script...
I am using the stock Froyo eugene posted and I am not having any problems with ROM manager or CWR. I have done two backups with ROM man and wiped cache, dalvik cache, and fix permissions in CWR and it worked. I even got the fix permissions log on my SD card.
This must be it, because same thing happens if i try from the recovery. Is there anyone that can get fix-permissions to actually run the entire script? Would be nice to know if its a select few, everyone, or just us two

Odin froze on EC01 modem flash.. what now?

I installed the EC01 ROM and sbrisson mod without issue, then went to flash the EC01 modem.bin via Odin 1.7 and it seems to have frozen up. Attached screenshot. What do I do now? I def don't want a brick for a phone.. I have a pallet of bricks outside which are much prettier, and red.
I have the phone sitting here still in DL mode, so the faster the help, the better

Just disconnect restart odin, go back to download mode and reflash, your not gonna hurt anything by starting over.

I know I have seen this same thing posted in the EC01 thread. Is your battery out? Quite a few people have gotten stuck at that point when doing ODIN with the battery in. I believe they have safely closed ODIN, pulled battery, reopened ODIN, connected with battery out, and flashed radio with no problems. I am still searching the thread to verify, so if you want to wait I will keep searching and let you know.
Same thing happened to me on the first modem flash, it seems a little glitchy. I just re-odined and it worked, good luck bro!
yeah they're right..it's the battery being in...was for me anyway...same thing happened..yank the battery, restart odin, re-flash and it should go through fine..takes about 20 seconds to dont get scared...
Thanks everyone. I did just as you recommended and all went well. I'm now on ed01 and loving life.

Phone is crapping its pants... CM7 Botched Install

So,
For the longest time I had a combination of Voodoo Kernel and Super Franken Clean or Super clean 2.2 or some combination of names like that on my Fascinate.
I got the itch to install CM7 because I wanted Gingerbread and the new interface so I followed the Wiki and used Heimdall to install the new Clockwork Recovery 4.0 and then installed CM7.
Everything seemed alright until stuff started going wrong.
I think the file system is wrong for what im using now, because there are like, stray bits of information from my old build, applications are not installing correctly, my sms app opens and closes itself, my context menus press their own buttons etc etc etc. Its a mess.
What is the best way to completely wipe this phone and start fresh with a new partition that is appropriate for CM7.
Right now when it boots into recovery it says it cant access the cache, it cant open or format the system, it cant do anything wipe, format, etc...
What do I do?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053567
That post doesn't have links to the necessary files.
Where do I get em?
Thats what happens when you dont read up on what your trying to do. you should of odin back to a stock package w/ atlas2.2 pit and repartition checked.
Here is great write up: Just replace vgb with cm7...this guide works for all mtd roms.

So get this...
I couldnt get the phantom button presses to stop, so I called Verizon and discussed the situation with them, they sent me a new Fascinate.
I got the new phone, instead of doing the process reccomended above but with CM7, I did it verbatim from the instructions.
Everything was A-OK for 24 hours.
Just now I open up Handcent messaging, damn thing is doing the same thing as the old broken phone, except this one is brand new. Any application I open, it hits the back button and exits out of the app.
What the hell is going on here?
If I use Odin to restore the phone to stock 2.2 it runs flawlessly.
Is there a step i'm missing that is causing this to happen because its really annoying.
Also, the Plain Vanilla GB rom thats linked in above in those instructions is missing a few critical features for the Fascinate.
The LED flash doesn't work, period.
and the proximity sensor doesn't work either, so if you want to hang up a phone call you have to hit the power button, then hang up.
I'd go back to CM7 but that will probably have the same phantom button pressing issue as VGB.
those are common issues in the rom(s) itself. If you dont like or cant deal with those issues flash a different rom. I suggest giving power washed eh09 gingerbread w/ tksgb kernal a try.

No boot, no recovery

Hi,
I have a problem with the S2 of a friend, it doesn't boot anymore, it's stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100"-Screen right after turning it on, no boot-animation.
Recovery doesn't work but download-Mode does so it's easy to just reflash Android via Odin. I don't know why that is, she said she powered it off to go to sleep and when she picked the phone on the next day it wouldn't boot.
She has the stock Samsung 4.1.2 software without root or custom recovery (so 100% stock)
The problem is that there are many photos and text messages (specifically: WhatsApp) on the internal memory, losing them is definetly not an option!
I have two questions:
First, will reflashing a stock-firmware wipe the internal memory where all the appdata and the photos are?
And if so, can I just flash a custom recovery and back the files up somehow? And which recovery would that be and how do I back up?
Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks for your time and help!
Id flash say philz kernel then go to recovery and flash a custom rom. Say pacman as a custom rom but thats a random rom im thinking of.

Will flashing a custom ROM delete the files?
I'll flash SlimBean because I installed that for many friends and they are all happy.
Is there a custom recovery included with the philz kernel?
No it wont delete as long as you dont format sd cards. Philz is a way to get cwm bk on your phone with odin.so put a custom rom on ext sd with pc put it in the phone then flash philz with odin then boot phone to recovery then flash custom rom from ext sd. Make sure you format data ,system ,cache before you flash for no boot problems
Okay great thanks! She'll come here on sunday, I'll then tell you if it worked
Oi oi it will work no problem lol

Okay I failed, I put the Kernel-File in Odin but in Bootloader, not in PDA -.- Hard brick.
well now my question is if a JTAG-Procedure will delete any of the pictures of if it only writes to the bootloader-space.
Omg how/why did you do that??
I thought "It has something to do with CWM so you have to flash it with "Bootloader" -.-
Yeah, that's why the search button was invented, by Common Sense I think.

That still doesn't answer my question.

That's exactly what it does (among other things).

Is there any way of saving the files?
No not now

Xperia U RAM Reduced to 292MB

So this is what happened to me, I was using SlimCM (CM 9 Android 4.0.4) and the suddenly the phone stopped working, I removed the battery, put it again and started the phone, I was very surprised because i lose everything, it seems like I did wipes (but i din't), the phone worked horrible, the screen never goes off (I locked the phone and the srceen remains black), and the battery drained a lot (Because of the screen).
After that I Reinstalled the ROM, I did wipes and nothing, the phone remains the same, so I did something stupid, in Recovery in advanced and I formated System (Or Data, I'm nopt sure). After that I tried to flash some roms and always i got error 7. I fix permissions and remains the same, So I decided to flash Gingerbread, and that worked, the phone works, but now, is terribly slow (And I remmember that gingerbread was faster) and I realized that in running services, the total ram is 292RAM And I remmember that normally is 379MB (In ICS) Is this normal in Gingerbread?

Let me get this straight, you cannot flash GB only, not ICS or a custom ROM?
A ver, ¿no puedes meter otra ROM más que Gingerbread?

This is strange... I use to wipe and to format everything before install a new rom. And I never seen this.
I suggest to you to wipe and format (even twice) everything again from GB (you are now on GB), then try to flash ICS rom with SUS/PcComp/Flashtool and install CWM, then wipe and format everything. After that, try to flash ICS again and see if it works.

LOL do you suggest that first wipe may not erase all data?
@alvarorojas4
if you know how to use adb run adb shell free -m and see how moch you have in total mem.
i don't know i have this problem for only gingerbread but i think its normal
