Droid 2 Global: Reverting to Stock - Droid 2 Global Android Development

Just got my workphone, Droid 2 Global. No stranger to flashing droid phones (my personal phone is a Captivate) I just had to flash it. I mucked it up once or twice flashing Droid 2 Roms on it and needed to get it back to stock. I know a few people have asked about recovering the Droid 2 Global but I haven't seen any instructions to that effect, so here goes:
Droid 2 Global Return to Stock
1. Download RSD Lite 4.9 - http://www.mediafire.com/?ufxs9lft9q2xwnu
2. Download DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL SBF - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MD5K1YY8
3. Download Motorla Drivers - http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles...al_Drivers/MotoHelper_2.0.40_Driver_4.9.0.exe
4. Install RSD Lite 4.9 and the Motorla Driver software. Unzip DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL to a convenient location, i.e. Desktop.
5. Shut off your Droid 2 Global, unhook it from USB or the AC adapter charger.
6. With the phone off, slide open the keyboard, hold the UP ARROW key on the keyboard and hold the power button. This puts the phone in Recovery mode. The screen will display white text and say something to this effect: "Bootloader D0.11, Battery OK, OK to Program, Connect USB Data Cable."
7. Start RSD Lite by clicking on the desktop icon, this brings up the GUI. Click the ellipse (...) next to the Filename dialogue box. If you put the DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL SBF file on the desktop, scroll down and select it and click Open. The File Properties box should populate with information about the SBF file.
8. Hook your USB cable to your phone, the text on the display will change. Click the Start button and have patience, this takes a while. RSD Lite will extract files to your desktop and begin flashing your phone. Do not interrupt the flash at any point or you will most likely have as nice paperweight. It takes roughly 5 minutes to flash the default rom and RSD Lite will reboot your phone.
9. If the Reboot fails and your phone loops through the starting animation. Pull the battery and put it back in.
10. Slide open the keyboard on the phone, hold down X on the keyboard and push the power button. This puts the phone in Recovery mode. You know you're in recovery mode when you see a triangle with a yellow exclamation and the green android logo.
11. Hit the Search magnifying glass key, this brings you in to the actual menu. You use the Volume Up and Down to navigate here and the Camera button for enter. Power button exits. Use Volume down until you get to the entry which reads Wipe Data/Factory Reset, push the Camera button. This will wipe your data and cache, I had to tap the OK button (The four little square button on the touchscreen) While it was running because the progress bar would stop. Your milage may vary. After it finishes, select the first menu option to reboot and push the Camera button.
That's it in a nutshell pretty much, let me know if I missed anything.

I've been trying to do this all day. My husband installed Liberty on my phone last night and forgot that it was a D2G, so of course it's all kinds of buggy. I'm trying to revert back to stock to try to properly install Liberty on the phone, but I can't get past the RSD Lite section. It keeps telling me "Failed Flashing Process 0x7100."
I've read a few forums about this issue and tried everything I could find. I'm running Windows 7, have run RSD lite as administrator, changed compatibility to Windows XP, moved the sbf file to every folder mentioned, moved RSD lite to the desktop, etc etc. I've also rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled, in every fashion I could think of.
This is what I get when I check the error log:
17:01:30, May 03, 2011
Line: 868
ERROR: \\?\c:\users\user\downloads\droid2we_x6_2.4.29_full.sbfuèá contains an invalid path.

I'm not sure what it means because most of the errors I've seen for RSD lite have been "was not found."
Any suggestions?
Also, I don't know if this is connected (I think it probably is), but for some reason when I plug in the phone it tells me MTP USB driver installation has failed. Each and every time.
Should I try to flash Fission over top of Liberty?
Thanks.

At first glance, i'd say to check the filename. There looks to be a space in what you copied from the errorlog, in the word full. Secondly, i'd redownload the SBF file, it's possible your download is corrupt. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Moto software, it should install the drivers properly in recovery mode. I have windows 7 64bit and did not have to do anything other than what's in my directions.

Shorten the name of the SBF. Like - d2g.sbf for example. Put the SBF in c:\ and let RSDLite look for it there. It is known not handle well long paths or spaces in file name.

Is this supposed to put the phone back at original stock settings with no apps and everything? I can't find any videos of this, but the Droid X sbf guid it leads you back to the touch the android new out of the box screen. I followed this guide and when my phone rebooted, it had all my apps and widgets and stuff still, the only thing that was different was the firmware version had gone back down.
Nevermind, I somehow skipped the last few steps, I must be really out of it, ignore me.

i flashed it twice now and updated it. both times while flashing it told me to restart the device manually and when i did no change, so i closed the rsd and hit ok when it warns me of damaging my phone. phone was already on and running at the time.
Now i cant get my wifi to connect, it authenticates, then goes straight ot disconnected and then trys again.....any ideas of why this is happenning?

Did you follow steps 9-11?

What terrigan said. If you didn't do the last steps, then your phone will maintain all of its settings, but it will revert to the old firmware, 2.4.29 which is what I initially did. I believe that firmware has buggy wifi to say the least which might be the cause of your problem. You should do steps 9-11 and then after that go to settings, about phone, and system updates, and update to 2.4.330

Awesome!
Thank you for the post! You are awesome. Like a noob, I messed up my phone wile rooting/bootstrapping it and couldn't download from the marketplace, get updates installed etc. This fixed it all and I'm back up and running!

No prob, Wish there were more ROMs for the D2G though.

Worked like a champ, thanks!

Thanks muchly! Now that D2G Gingerbread is available, I'm reverting in the hopes to get the OTA update. Just waiting for the stock SBF to finish atm, will let you know how it goes..

Were not going to get the update until a couple more weeks...

The steps and the RSDLite software will, you will need to find an SBF for your phone.
Droid 2 (Non Global) SBF: http://www.multiupload.com/R6VS5FFISB
I take no responsibility if this bricks your phone.

failed flashing process?
Hey, I was trying to revert my phone back, and while running RSD Lite, it got to 100% then it said that the flashing process failed?
the status came out as:
"Failed flashing process: Failed flashing process: Phone[0000]: Error switching phone to BP Pass through mode (0x70BE); phone disconnected"
help please?

Is there a reason why this would work on one phone but not another? I keep getting a failed on one phone with RSD lite I get code error FEBE 0047. I search and says not compatible software, doesn't make sense. Phone stays in boot loop.
thanks for any help.

Hey guys,
Here's my story:
Just bought a brand new D2G from a friend who likes to waste money...he tried to root it using a D2 rom, and gets the bootloader error. I bought it off of him for $50.
Flashed back to the SBF file in the first post, and then I got a message saying a new update was available. It downloaded on the phone, installs, the phone reboots and I saw the android green robot logo with a box, and a status bar. Once it hit 100%, the phone rebooted again, and to the bootload error said "code corrupt, insert data cable"
Tried holding X and power button to go into recovery mode like I did before, but it just boots to this screen....
Battery just died too, so I had to take it to a verizon store where they are awfully kind to recharge it for free.
Any help is appreciated, otherwise I'm just re flashing back to the rom in the first post again, and never updating the phone!
Jon

Find the .330 D2G SBF file and that should solve your problem I think....

Sounds like the update corrupted during install or download.. theres a .330 sbf try it like the above post stated make sure its fully charged low battery can cause major issues

After that I reverted to stock v1.2.6 and gradually upgraded to v1.8.3
On top of that the android recovery doesn't work either with vol down on reboot, same explanation mark in a triangle...
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thank you.

Hey [email protected],
There is no problem with your recovery menu. When you see the Android with the exclamation mark, you are in recovery mode. just touch the screen right above the Search button, which turns out to be the "Hide" function, and you'll see everything show up! Neat-o, right? =] Too bad CWM isn't touchscreen-capable =[
What probably happened for you is that you failed the pre-test. When they install an OTA update, it looks to make sure that certain apps are still there and makes sure no illegal mods are added to your Atrix. If you remove bloatware using Titanium or have root or you modded system files, you'll run into an error trying to update because you failed the pre-test. The best way around that problem AND the solution to upgrading without deleting anything is here. Use the Automated Update for PC Users, which will bypass this check. This was made for the sole purpose of those who don't want to lose their data, however, you'll be more likely to encounter strange bugs if you do upgrade this way. I suggest backing up your SD card before you do anything, perform this update, and then do a factory wipe. I know it's annoying because you have to re-input all of your info and stuff, but this is pretty much the only guaranteed way that about 95% of it will function as it should.
Hope that helped =D

When I touched the screen above the search button, I see the source of the error is "/system/app/swype.apk
so I imagine it is due to updating swype cuple of times and as far as I remember, in the first update i had to remove 2 system files to make it work.
This will help fix your issue.
1. Download the Motorola Drivers HERE if you haven't already, and install. (Link is to the 4.9.0 version, there is a newer one, but someone has said it has issues) If you would like to try the latest version, you can obtain them directly from Motorola Here.
2. Download RSDlite 5.3.1 HERE and install
3. Download the AT&T/Motorola 4.1.83 FULL SBF from this thread, unzip it and place it in a folder at C:\AtrixSBF\ (or something similar, short folder name, in the C:\ directory)
4. Plug your phone into a Rear USB port on your PC, using the OEM supplied USB cable. Set your USB option from the pull down Notification bar to None. ***For those that can't boot, power down, hold Volume Up while powering on. You should end up in Starting RSD protocol. Then continue. ***
5. Open RSDlite, wait until it recognizes you phone is attached.
6. Click on the "..." button and navigate to the SBF file you downloaded and select it.
7. Click the Start button and wait. It's good to stick around to make sure there are no errors, but it's going to take a good 20-40 minutes. DO NOT DISCONNECT anything until you see PASS next to the process you're running in the far right hand column.

HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2

Moon Shadow's Droid X2 Tutorials - HowTo: Perform a SBF, or "factory restore" of your Motorola Droid X2
Please keep in mind that this tutorial is specifically for the Motorola Droid X2. These procedures MIGHT work for other phones, however, I would not recommend taking the risk of bricking, or even soft bricking, your phone.
Standard disclaimer: I, nor XDA Forums, are responsible for what you do to your phone. Just because these tutorials work for me, does not mean that they will work for you.
I make no claims to be the original owner of this process. I am just consolidating the process into an easy to follow (hopefully) guide that will help everyone from noobs to experienced users.
This tutorial has been adapted from the post: [updated][how-to] sbf tutorial [how-to][updated] by DAG425 who compiled a SBF Tutorial from everything he found.
This method uses Windows! (I know, I'm a Linux guy, but...) My Linux system crashed several months ago and I do not have the funds to purchase new hardware. I can try to assist as I am a mixed environment System Administrator, however, I make absolutely no claims of being a guru. I have heard (not substantiated) that people are having success using Virtual Box. I highly recommend Virtual Box as it seems to be the only free virtualizing environment that supports accessing hardware directly, as long as Linux sees the hardware, Virtual Box and use it (for the most part).
I am making some assumptions in this tutorial:
1. You understand and are comfortable with installing software on a Windows computer.
2. You understand and are comfortable with downloading programs.
3. You understand and are comfortable with extracting compressed files (*.zip, *.rar *.7z, etc.) (I recommend 7zip to extract all compress files.)
4. You are willing to read this entire tutorial and ask questions if something is unclear to you, BEFORE you start this process. (Better to be safe than sorry.)
Now, on to the good stuff…
Hints:
Text in green are applications to launch or buttons to push within an application.
Text in red are warnings.
Orange is reserved for text that must be typed or copied. – Specific commands are also listed in code boxes.
This process will revert your phone to any one of three “Verizon factory original” states.
2.2.2 – Froyo (Why anyone would want to go that far back is beyond me, but I’ll include it anyway.)
2.3.3 – Gingerbread
2.3.4 – Gingerbread
Note: There is a KNOWN problem with the battery indicator and the way Android interprets and displays the battery percentages in Gingerbread 2.3.4. Currently, there is no known fix for this. This problem plagues the original build and any custom ROM based on the 2.3.4 kernel. Until the bootloader is unlocked and we have the source code for the kernel, do not expect this to be fixed any time soon.
UPDATE! Peperm1nt has given us a work around that works. See his post: [MOD]GingerBread Battery Fix v0.8 11/25/11 PSA op update! It has worked well for me and has been integrated with the CM7DX2 ROM.
PLEASE make sure you have a backup of your existing system, or at least your data. To back up your data, I recommend Titanium Backup (TiBu). Purchase the TiBu key, it is WELL worth it! To back up your entire system, goto Moon Shadow's Droid X2 Tutorials - How to perform a backup of your Droid X2. I have performed this method of flashing my phone back to stock using the 2.3.4 SBF file from both Windows XP (SP3) and Windows 7 Professional x64. I have not used or tested the 2.2.2 or 2.3.3 files. The process is identical for all three SBF files.
1. First make sure you have the correct Motorola driver installed on your system (you may have to right click and select "Save Link As").
a. Windows universal 32-bit Motorola drivers version 5.2.0
b. Windows universal 64-bit Motorola drivers version 5.2.0
2. Next download the SBF file you want to load to your phone (you may have to right click and select "Save Link As"):
a. Froyo 2.2.2 SBF File (you may have to right click and select "Save Link As")
b. Gingerbread 2.3.3 SBF File (you may have to right click and select "Save Link As")
c. Gingerbread 2.3.4 SBF File (you may have to right click and select "Save Link As")
3. Once you have downloaded the file, use 7zip to extract the file (whether it ends in .gz or .zip, I recommend using 7zip). You CANNOT just remove the .gz from the end of the filename! It is a compressed file. Using 7zip to extract it will ensure the file is intact and will have the extension of .sbf.
4. Next download RSD Lite and install it. I have used both and currently use 5.4.4. (You may have to right click and select "Save Link As"):
a. RSD Lite 5.3.1 and Drivers
b. RSD Lite+ 5.4.4 - Thanks to motcher41 for getting this to me!
5. Once you have installed the software on your computer, REBOOT it.
6. Turn off your phone.
7. While your computer is booting back up, power up your phone by pressing and holding the VOLUME UP BUTTON and then pressing the POWER BUTTON until you see the words STARTING RSD PROTOCOL SUPPORT (in white) at the top of the DX2’s screen. This should only take about 3-5 seconds.
8. Once your computer has come up completely, start RSD Lite.
9. Once RSD Lite has started, click the three dots (…) in the upper half of the window. It is located to the right of the long blank box labeled Filename:.
10. Using the Open dialog box, navigate to the sbf file and click the Open button.
11. If you correctly extracted the file in step 3, you should see information fill the right hand box called File Properties.
12. Plug your factory Motorola USB cable into the DX2, then into an available USB port on your computer.
13. When you plug the DX2 into the USB port, the RSD Lite screen will update the first line in the lower section of the window (Port No. 1.) with the following information:
Model: SE Flash Daytona
Port Type: USB
IMEI / ESN / MEID: N/A
Status: Connected…
14. If it does not have the preceding information, make sure you are not plugged into a USB hub; if problems still persist, restart the process at step 5.
15. Click Start, and WAIT! Laugh at me, but the first time I performed an SBF, I did it on a computer with an Intel Pentium 4, 2.66 GHz processor, and 1 GB of memory. It took OVER AN HOUR for the SBF process to complete! RSD Lite first backs up what is on the DX2, then it proceeds to flash each of the 5 sections (partitions actually).
16. The Progress and Result columns will update with information as the flash progresses. When the flash is complete, the phone will reboot and RSD Lite SHOULD inform you that the process is complete. If not, you might have to do the process over. You may also receive a message to manually reboot your phone, this is normal and seems to happen about 30-40% of the time.
17. Whether or not your phone boot loops at this time, I HIGHLY recommend performing a factory reset from the Android Recovery menu. This is also the process of fixing the boot loop.
a. Pull the battery.
b. Plug the battery back in.
c. Power up your phone by pressing and holding the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and then pressing the POWER BUTTON until you see the words FASTBOOT (in white) at the top of the DX2’s screen. This should only take about 3-5 seconds.
d. Press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON 7 times, or until you see the words ANDROID RECOVERY.
e. Press the VOLUME UP BUTTON and the screen will add “Entering Android Recovery” under the words ANDROID RECOVERY.
f. In about 5-7 seconds, you should see a white triangle with a yellow exclamation point in the middle and a little android down and to the right of the triangle.
g. Press both volume buttons at once.
h. The Android system recovery utility (second line of text) will come up.
i. Press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON until “wipe data/factory reset” is highlighted.
j. Press the power button to start the process.
k. Once the wipe data/factory reset process has completed, press the VOLUME UP BUTTON until reboot is highlighted.
l. Press the power button to reboot your DX2.
18. Congratulations! At this point in time, you have successfully flashed your phone back to “factory stock”. Now you can root your phone, install a custom ROM, or return it.
Note: If you are going to flash a custom ROM, make sure you SBF the correct kernel for the ROM. For example for CyanogenMod 7 ROM (cm7dx2) you must be on Gingerbread 2.3.4. For the Eclipse v2.03 ROM, you must be rooted and on Gingerbread 2.3.5. For the Liberty ROM, you must be on Gingerbread 2.3.4. Please make sure you read all of the posts in the thread for that ROM. Somewhere in there it will tell you what build you need to be on.
For a great video tutorial, following what I have written out here, se UbuntuBrandon's youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lfkJ2heXos. Thanks, UbuntuBrandon!

Just want to add that yes 5.4.4 rsdlite works the same and just fine. I JUST used it an hour ago.
Also wanted to add and easier way to get ur phone to "starting rsd protocol "
Just hold power and VOLUME UP buttons for about 8seconds and it starts rsd protocol. U don't have to scan through any other menus or press anything else. Just hold power and VOLUME UP buttons and it will work. I have done it this way EVERY time I sbf.
((A couple times u referred to RSDlite as SBFlite. ..just trying to eliminate any confusion ))

Good to know on the RSD Lite 5.4.4. I hadn't used it yet so I put that disclaimer in there. I don't want to put in information that I personally have not verified. At this time, I haven't had a need to SBF, so... I'm stuck with what I have done. I'll update the OP when I have have the opportunity to actually use 5.4.4.
Thanks for catching the typos. I have fixed them. Also, because the volume down method is intuitive (well, okay, not really), and it is easiest for a user to watch what scrolls by, instead of counting out 8 seconds, I think I will leave it in there. However, if people reach the end of my post and get to yours, I will leave the easier method glory to you.
I truly appreciate your feedback! Thank you again!

Sounds good bro.
And I will pass that glory on to MikeJ since that's where I learned it in his sbf thread at droidforums.
And it isn't exactly 8seconds. Just a roundabout. Doesn't have to be exact and doesn't matter if u keep holding a little past when it shows up. When u see it pop up u can just hook ur phone up after rsdlite is started. I usually get my phone ready then open rsd and hook up.
Either way works. I just like being able to get my phone to rsd mode in one step that really can't be messed up. Don't have to press anything after u see rsd protocol at top. About the same amount of time it takes just to show fastboot lol. I apologize for rambling here.
Thanks again!
I just used this method with RDSLite 5.5 and it worked fine. Just an FYI for people.
Droid X2 wont boot up!!!!
Okay i was wonderin does this work if the droid x2 wont boot up, im a noob to this cause i have never Bricked a phone. Ive been rooting and flashing roms since my OG droid to my Droid Bionic, in the middle of flashing a rom my mother knocked my DX2 off tha charger and the battery popped out , i tried booting it back up and it says "failed to boot 1" then reads "starting rsd protocol". I was reading how to sbf back to stock and was wondering did this still work while my dx2 is in this state since it seems to be ready to flash sbf. And another thing it keeps saying "battery to low to flash" but wont charge on wall and usb port only seems to work but still only make it come on for a sec then turns back off, PLEASE HELP
U might have to get an external desktop charger or new battery to be able to sbf if battery is too low.
Or.find someone with and x or x2 and charge your battery up then u should be fine to sbf. As long as u have good amount of charge on battery and can get rsd protocol started u should be fine.
---------- Post added at 01:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 PM ----------
Also. Next time before flashing the rom make sure u do it with full battery. Once you are in system recovery u can take phone off charger and it works fine. That way u can keep ur phone in a safer place
thank you so much bro...... so your saying in this state it should sbf??
I only recommend trying it if u have a full battery to use. U wont be able to sbf with a nearly dead battery and run the risk of.messing up somehow with a low battery.
it should work fine if u have enough battery. "Starting rsd protocol " is where u need to be before u plug phone into computer. Make sure rsdlite is open on the computer FIRST. And have cable plugged into computer only. Then after u see starting rsd protocol hook it up and wait for rsdlite on computer to say device connected or something along those lines. If it does it should work.
Edit: I should have read ash whole post, I got bored and didn't finish and reposted info he already did.
Haha...I got ur original post in my Gmail lol. I was wondering if my post just didn't go thru lol
U didn't have to edit it out can't hurt to repeat good info
lol thanks, thats okay, it dont hurt 4 me to confirm that the info was correct, i guess i will have to wait to get another battery, will post to let you guys know how it went
I know I have seen some 5$ desktop chargers available on eBay with overnight delivery available for free. Might even find a 3battery&desktop charger for around $15 also...then u will always have that fully charged backup foe that "oh ****" moment. This is why I keep TWO fully charged batteries in my wallet lol. That and the fact that I am always on my.phone and I can drain a battery faster than a toilet flush at a train station
the SBF link is dead, someone here had download it
please share... thanks

I just checked and all three SBF images are working. Which one do you need?
I also check the other files and noticed that RSD Lite 5.4.4 is not working. If anyone has this file, PM me and I will host it. Thanks!
I have a question about backing up... I applied the 2.3.4 update without thinking, and my rooted/supercharged X2 is acting all kinds of funny now. It's like half of it think it's rooted, and the other half doesn't. TiBackup won't work because it can't gain root access, yet I still have SuperUser on my phone and can enter that to enable/disable certain apps. I can still get to the nandroid recovery portion which wouldn't work unless it was rooted. Biggest thing is that the backlight stops working often, and I need to figure out if it's hardware related or borked from the update.
So, my question is how can I back my data up? If I do a nandroid backup, isn't that going to just put whatever messed up state my phone is in back once I SBF? If I can't do a TiBackup I don't see any other option.
@berfles SBF'ing to 2.3.4 will remove root, you need to use Pete's One Root tool. Just google it (apparently I can't post links being under 8 posts? ). As far as you're phone acting wonky, is it because the apps didn't have root?

I have actually seen this issue posted before, I think its an issue with titanium backup. Im too lazy to do it for you, but a search of this forum should find it. Ash will probably log in soon and find the link for you.

Nice hahaha...
one thing I don't know much about is titanium backup tho..
and I don't care much to know anything about it. To me it seems like a pointless app. Especially now that eclipse has the app restore function built in. And if I wanna freeze or remove anything I use bloat freezer(which freezes better) and root explorer(which is the best app ever haha )
That made me laugh eviltim. I needed that before I get to work and get reemed out for being late Monday ((where is that "NNNNOOOOOO" BUTTON lol))
Happy to help ash. And remember, if you show up on time today, with a shotgun, no one will say ANYTHING to you, let alone ream you out for being late Monday.

[Q] "Failure to Boot 2" after installing CWM

Hi XDA, been lurking for a while and today decided to start posting, beginning with a relatively urgent question.
My brother's been marveling at the ability to flash custom ROMs onto my Galaxy S2, and decided he wanted to root his Atrix today. Rooting process went well (he used Pete's Motorola Root Tools) and then flashed CWM through ROM Manager, but did NOT unlock his bootloader. After CWM was purportedly done, he put a ROM onto his HDD, turned the phone off, and attempted to boot into CWM. He was greeted with an error message, "Failure to Boot 2, Starting RSD Mode", which pops up whether he tries to turn on the phone normally or by holding the volume button down. Taking out the battery doesn't help.
Now, my assumption is that because he didn't unlock his bootloader, he's getting this error, but my experience with Android dev is limited. So, how would I go about fixing this? My only concern is getting the phone back to a working state, we don't care about the data on it.
Thank you for the time taken to read and answer this question, any and all help is appreciated.
Warm Regards,
Leo
EDIT: Just want to make sure, I did a fair amount of searching before I made this thread and found a bunch of answers, just not sure which one I should do. One thread champions just unlocking the bootloader, others suggest flashing an OEM ROM, which I'm not sure how to do without CWM. Essentially I'm just looking for some guidance and would deeply appreciate any help I can get.
EDIT 2: Forgot to add - he was running 2.2.1 stock. Root was successful. Feel free to ask any questions if necessary.
UPDATE: I've been trying to use these instructions to unlock the bootloader, but I'm stuck on the step that asks you to reboot your phone into RSD mode. The phone doesn't boot without being plugged in, and gives me the following error when I do:
Failed to Boot 2, Starting RSD Mode
"Battery is too low to Flash". Right now the phone's plugged into the wall with this message displaying,
It also goes without saying that RSD Mode, in fact, is never started .
Added some more information (apparently new members aren't allowed to post links, so added the information as UPDATE in the original post).
Again, thanks for your help and suggestions.
Bump, somebody please weigh in.
- Leo

You are correct in just trying to unlock the BL. Unfortunately, you will need a charged battery to do so. If you don't have access to a different battery, you can go to an AT&T store and they should charge it for you.
The OEM you're referring to is a full .sbf, instead of just the smaller "unlock" .sbf. That is an option, but in all honesty, unlocking the BL should be the quickest way to fix your situation.
If you run into any problems, let us know.
Thanks for the advice, it's immensely reassuring. He went to an AT&T store and they were unhelpful, refused to charge it for him I'm going to order a battery charger off Amazon and charge it that way, and will post here when I have results.
In the meantime if anyone else has something to add it would be quite appreciated.
Thanks,
Leo

Alright, we've run into a problem.
The screen never gets past the error message "Failure to Boot 2, Starting RSD Mode". We turn it off, hold power and up at the same time, and it still boots to that message. I press the power button and hold the volume up button, nothing changes.
The battery is charged.
Is there something I'm missing here?

The .sbf's are flashed while your phone is in RSD Mode
in order to charge your battery (to fix the "Battery is too low" message) you will need to sacrifice any USB cable, cut it open and tape the red and black wires to the battery. (Red goes on +, Black goes on -)

Yep, I realized that. I thought "Starting RSD Mode" would at some point subside, and it would say something along the lines of "In RSD Mode" or something. But he flashed an unlock SBF and got it unlocked. He now has a beautiful Atrix running ICS MIUI.
Thank you all for the help.
Same problem but the solution does not work for me
I am in the same boat. I downloaded RSD 5.9 and used the file in pudding.rar. After I loaded the file, RSD said it passed with 100% load but the phone is still stuck in the same place. Can anyone help?

[Q] Motorola Electrify from USCC - H-E-L-P!!

Good afternoon folks,
I had a "situation" where I found myself missing some apparently critical "bloatware" on my phone. Came up with lots of errors and a lot of functions no longer, well, functioned. Got too carried away I guess.
I had done a system backup with Titanium Backup. I initially tried just restoring some of the apps. Problem was, it just sat there saying restore. Just stuck. So I thought, hey, I have it backed up, I will do a factory reset. I did this, only then to find out that my backup was located on the INTERNAL sdcard not sdcard-ext, so all of a sudden I have no backups.
I do have access to another Electrify, if it would help. What I then decided to do was try downloading a factory rom for my phone. I downloaded "1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.5-4.5.1A_SUN_USC_19.0-19-release-keys-signed-USC-US.rar" off of the teamuscellular.com page. I booted the phone in RSD mode, restored it (three times now actually), and every step seemed to go fine (RSD even says it finished fine). But on the last step when RSD says it is rebooting the phone, at the very end, it comes up with an error :
"Failed to boot 4
starting in rsd mode"
I have read elsewhere where people say it is related to the battery. I had a 60% charge for the first two times I did this process, the last time I used the battery from the other phone which was at 95% plus. So far I have not been able to get past this.
Another post suggested that I should pop out the battery, pop it back in, hold the vol down and power buttons, and then do a factory wipe of the /data partition. This is fine, but I cannot get it to go past the Moto screen unless I let go of the buttons.
In case this might help figure out the issue, here are some details from the phone :
System version - 45.1.190.MB853.USC.en.US
Model number - Motorola Electrify
Android version - 2.3.5
Also worth noting, I did not see anything on the screen ever indicating I was "unlocked".
What I want when this is done and over with is to get the phone back and working stock, root, and make barnicle wifi work. Any advice would be most helpful, I am really kind of freaking out here.

Thanks,

did you install the moto drivers? if you're unlocked be sure to flash 2.3.4 not 2.3.5
Good afternoon,
I have installed the moto drivers. I am on Windows 7 64 bit (dual boot with Linux Mint Debian 64). I installed "MotoHelper_2.1.40_Driver_5.5.0.exe", and was using RSDLite5.6.
As far as I know, the phone was locked. Rooted, but locked. Some say it will actually say on the screen 'unlocked', mine does not say anything like that.
Thanks,
Just to make sure it's not a battery issue, there is free battery swap if you can run by a USCC store. But I think you're right, it's probably not that. Wish I could help you more, but it stumps me.

From the phone completely off, hold vol-down and power. When the screen lights up, release power ONLY. Keep holding vol-down until some text shows up then release. Click vol-down to scroll through options until Recovery shows up. Click vol-up to select. Once recovery starts, navigate using vol-up/vol-down and power to select. /data will be wiped if you do a factory reset.
Hope this helps.

Unbrick, unroot, and restore to stock settings Guide. (MOTOROLA DROID RAZR US ONLY.)

Use this guide to reset your Motorola Droid Razr back to stock ROM factory reset, even after it is bricked.
Please understand that this is for the US English Droid Razr XT912 model. If you wish to use this method with a different carrier and country, you will have to find the XML file for your region/carrier, as I have only made this for a Verizon CDMA XT912 Droid Razr.
NOTE: THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING SO MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACK UP!!! Can't stress that enough!
First, you need to download the following files:
Motorola Drivers
RSD Lite 5.6 or 5.7
Stock ROM XML FIles - (Google "VRZ_XT912_6.5.1-73_DHD-11_TA-3_1FF_02.xml.zip download" since I can't post outside links yet).
After you download all 3 of those files:
1. Run and install the Motorola drivers .exe (or .msi) first.
2. If it gives you an option to download Motocast, DO IT!!! If not don't worry about it.
3. Assuming the drivers installed successfully, go ahead and have the USB data cable attached to your computer.
4. Power off your device completely.
(PLEASE READ:::If your Razr is stuck on the "Dual Core" splash screen or if it does not boot up, hold the "Volume UP and DOWN at the same time, WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE POWER UNTIL THE PHONE GIVES A QUICK FLASH THEN TURNS OFF. Once it is completely off, hold down the "Volume UP and DOWN buttons again until you see the bootloader options come up. (Recovery, AP Fastboot, Etc.)
5. If your device boots up just fine but you just want to flash it back to stock ROM using this method for whatever reason, just power down and hold the power button and the Volume UP and Down all 3 at the same time until you see the bootloader menu come up. Release the buttons when it comes up.
6. Once you are at the bootloader screen, YOU CAN ONLY SCROLL DOWN!!! The volume UP button is used as the button to make the selection of the highlighted option.
7. Push the volume DOWN button until you highlight "AP Fastboot" then hit the Volume UP button to select this option.
8. Once selected and at the AP Fastboot screen, plug in your USB cable.
9. Also assuming that you installed RSD Lite (after installing the drivers of course) OPEN UP "RSD LITE 5.7".
10. You should see in the first row your phone information. (It will probably say "Spyder S" something blah blah blah)
11. Once you confirm that it says "Connected" under the status column, go click on the "..." button on the top center of the application next to the box that says "File Name".
12. Go ahead and navigate to where you placed the Stock ROM XML file and select it.
13. A window is going to pop up and give you 3 options: CHOOSE THE "DECOMPRESS AND START FLASHING" option.
14. Once you do this, it will take a little while to fully flash. (at most probably 10 minutes).
15. Once it finishes successfully, it should say "REBOOT" in the status,
16. Once it reboots, SHAZAM! You should have a fully functional back to stock ROM again!
Again, if you have a backup you can go ahead and restore from the backup. Since their are many options to restore your backup (however you chose to do it) I will not explain this step since it is a little different for every method.
Since the Droid Razr has a fully functional OTA update of ICS 4.0.4, just go ahead and run the system updates!
If you have any questions about this method of reflashing a bricked/corrupt Droid Razr, please do not hesitate to ask and PM me. This method should work 100%. I bricked my Razr almost completely without a chance of recovery. This method is sure to work if it has worked on mine!

=====================================================
Hello Mark,
I'm from INDIA and i own a Droid Razr XT910 (5 Months Old). I have received OTA update for my mobile a month back and i mistakenly selected " Install later" but i never got that pop up again. I did factory restore and tired checking for system updates, but ends with "Phone is upto date" So in simple it was running with GB. Unfortunately yesterday morning my phone hangs up and keeps rebooting. So i did factory rest by holding (vol up + down) wipe data and restore the factory settings. But then i thought of doing manual OTA update for ICS and downloaded by following this article https://sites.google.com/site/manualrazricsupgrade/ Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739853
I have done whatever said there, but i got stucked in the 7th point
"Now that you are again in the phones boot loader:
Using the VOLUME DOWN KEY, scroll down "Recovery", and press the VOLUME UP KEY to select it.
The phone will reboot, take a moment at a blank screen, and you will then see a green Android with an exclamation sign. The android must be laying on its side with a red triangle/exclamation mark"
My phone was displaying an error saying
"invalid CG otv (CG: system): Invalid SP data
invalid cg version (CG: system)
invalid cg otv (cg:system)"
This comes after i select recovery by following the 7th point. I have tried to download flashme,RAZR Utility 1.7, RAZR Utility 1.6 but nothing works. I'm stuck in this screen.
My question is the rom which i used here as per this article is "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip" but mobile bought in INDIA (ASIA) so i have tried flashing a ROM which is not for INDIA?
Help me on how to get rid of this and It's really great to see this information which you have updated. Is that okay if i try the options mentioned in your article to restore to stock settings?
Please advice.
Note: My phone is not Rooted till date.

Yes this xml flash file will put you on GB, but all you have to is run the system updates and get the ICS update. This method is the quickest in my opinion. Like I said, this method is best if it's soft bricked.

I thought it was understood that once you go ICS, you can't go back. I would assume this method would therefore brick your phone if you're currently on ICS?

In my situation, I didn't even have a chance to receive the OTA ICS update. I bought my phone from a friend who already rooted it and put a AOKP ROM (Worst ROM in my opinion.) I tried restoring a backup that was saved in the internal memory which failed and corrupt my phone so bad that when I chose any option in the bootloader, it would go to the dual core splash screen the turn off. The phone would not charge for a while. I recommend this way for people who screwed up their phones like I did

Also i just wanna confirm before downloading. As i said my RAZR is bought in Chennai (INDIA) and model is XT910 but the xml file is for RAZR XT 912 and more over u have mentioned in your thread with few lines highlighted in RED Colour that

You should have a fully functional back to stock ROM again!"

No, you can't use my particular xml file since it is for the Verizon carrier as well as CDMA. You need the ASIA India GSM XML. I'll see if I can find one.

Yes this xml flash file will put you on GB, but all you have to is run the system updates and get the ICS update. This method is the quickest in my opinion. Like I said, this method is best if it's soft bricked.

Also i just wanna confirm before downloading. As i said my RAZR is bought in Chennai (INDIA) and model is XT910 but the xml file is for RAZR XT 912 and more over u have mentioned in your thread with few lines highlighted in RED Colour that
"Please understand that this is for the US English Droid Razr XT912 model. If you wish to use this method with a different carrier and country, you will have to find the XML file for your region/carrier, as I have only made this for a Verizon CDMA XT912 Droid Razr."
Please advice. Am i still proceed in downloading the XML file "VRZ_XT912_6.5.1-73_DHD-11_TA-3_1FF_02.xml.zip" and follow the instructions in ur original thread ?
