I've searched and read the current threads. I feel this is more severe than most realize.
Live wallpapers are preventing the phone from sleeping. Period. I've ruled everything out. In 6 hours my screen dried up my battery while I slept. Screen off. Everything off.
89% of the battery because of the screen.
Are there any other known instances of live wallpapers both HTC and 3rd party alike that aren't coded properly?
Digitized from the 3rd Dimension - EVO 3D.
I'm not using a live wallpaper, and my phone still doesn't sleep.

Excellent. So it's worse than I thought.
My battery did a similar 6-7 hour steady death the other day, I did the overnight recharge > 1 hour charge while off > 1 hour charge while on and my battery is good now.
While on the charger the phone doesn't sleep...
'Wave Live Wallpaper Light" app is not preventing sleep on mine
Check for rogue apps, or things continously syncing

Turn off all radios if you are sleeping, that might help.

I've done a hard reset twice, and the problem still persists with no apps downloaded.
I found my phone was not sleeping as well. I didn't do much extensive testing but I thought it may be weatherbug so I deleted that. I also read somewhere to reboot your phone and using a task manager wipe everything 5x then turn the screen off and let is sleep for 5 mins. And look in battery setting to see if the # is different and it was. So those 2 things fixed it for me

Good night sweet 3VO
Maybe the charger idea or rogue app. I have not used live wallpapers more then just to check them out and have not downloaded a whole bunch of apps. Anticipation formatting when root is here.
I am thinking I might just have to go to the Sprint store and get a replacement and see how that one works.
When the screen locks without going to sleep, it just doesn't go to sleep. I sat here and stared at it for a while. It just sat there on the weather homescreen/lockscreen.

my battery is barely surviving 7 hours
I just got a replacement phone.... Cause my last one the battery would drain while on charger the charger all night.. No wake lock issue either the phone slept amazing during the day. And if I looked at what the battery went to it showed the phone declining from charged to nothing while showing it was actually charging

I normally turn it completely off at night to charge it. Is this good practice or should it be left on while charging? I believe turning it off will extended the battery life do you believe this? Also I have noticed when I got to battery it says the phone has been on and off the charger for 2 days which it hasn't and I believe its doing this because I turn it off while charging is this correct?

I never turn my phone off unless I know it's going to be off for extended periods (more than 24 hours). I plug it in every night or when it gets low. This was for my OG Evo, mind you, but same difference.
That said, here's some reading on the subject.
That said, I've gone against that article by keeping my phone on charger all night just about every night, and by discharging it below 20% about half the time. Still, my Evo battery still lasts me all day with my personal usage, I have never noticed a decline in the two years I've been using it. I'm a light-to-moderate user, and it's worked for me.
I never power my phone off. It's on 24/7 other than rebooting for installing roms

I believe if your fastboot is on, then you're not really shutting off your phone. Since it's always in the "ready to go" mode.
Btw, I keep mine on 24 hrs. I charge with when I need to (usually towards the evening of the day). But I restart whenever I flash a new rom.
mine is on 24/7
I use my Nexus S as my alarm clock so I leave it on. I left my EVO Shift on all night but didn't use that as an alarm. I never have had battery issues but don't really keep my phones long enough to know for sure. I really kind of think they were designed to be left on all the time.
I leave mine on 24/7. I do not have a land line and only have the cell phone, so my wife and I just leave ours on just incase there is an emergency people can get a hold of us. Which has happened several times.....people with DUI's, getting picked up by the fuzz. Can't get a ride from the bar, births.........

That might explain why some of us have been unboxing phones with zero battery charge. Mine had to be charged to even power on when I bought it and tried to activate it. If they're packaged in "sleep" mode at the factory, they'll run down over time. Or am I wrong? Is it more of a battery-less "hibernate" mode?
I usually leave mine on 24/7, letting it charge overnight. I keep it charged at work too so don't really need any extra batteries or such. If I need it to last awhile I just turn off data or turn it off completely.
Granted, every couples weeks I do usually re-boot just to clear everything.
On all the time. Check out audio guru in the play store, has a volume schedule for all the different sounds, ringtones, sms notification, alerts, phone volume, media etc.

I have a similar problem. My phone randomly turns off/restarts. Afterwards, my battery icon turns gray for a few minutes. When it comes back, it drops by ~10-20%.
This actually happened to me before several months back. Last time, I called HTC and they gave me a new battery. That worked for a couple of months, but now it's back. I'm currently working with HTC tech support to get it figured out.

I was, but I recently installed Energy rom. The problem is still there. I'm running my phone in safe mode now and seeing if my phone restarts.
Quite a few people have problems with stock batteries. I encounter the same problems regardless what ROM I'm running. I bought a couple Anker 1900 mAh batteries and will report back.
You need a new battery, but you can try draining the battery all the way down to the point that the device can't even come on, then it charge it over night all the way back up. See if that helps, it tends to help with this battery issue.
Ido I have the same prob but I was thinking how about resetting battery stats in recovery

I am so relived to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. Let me tell you guys my experience with up to 3 batteries, various roms, and weeks of googling...
So basically, changing battery do fix the problem; but only temporarily. It can fix the problem for about a couple weeks or months, but the problem will come back anyway. I am on my third battery now and switching between the batteries; so, I am pretty sure that it is only a temporary fix. Cycling between the three battery sometimes is pretty helpful (but again, it is just a temporary fix).
Another way to fix it temporarily that works pretty well for me is to take out the battery, wait for about 5 seconds, and turn on the phone again. It only fix the problem for about a couple days though; so, might as well switch battery if you got another battery.
Another possibility to fix it without playing with the battery, you can try factory reset or install another custom rom. It sometimes helps also, but a pain if you are not the type that likes to try different roms.
Lastly, the better and simpler fix is to reboot to recovery, wipe all caches and dalvik, fix permissions, and reboot again. This can fix the problem (but only temporary).
Out of those four tries, I find that swapping battery or full wipe / install
Custom rom tends to fix the problem for a longer time. I haven't been able to find any permanent fox for the random shutdown yet. But, I hope those information helps for anyone who have the same problem

The draining battery does work. Just turn EVERYTHING on to drain it (brightness, GPS, bluetooth etc.) and watch some videos to drain it down all the way. After this do a mini power cycle (pull battery wait awhile, put it back, then leave it charging for at least 10 hours).
This solved the problem for me

Exactly, worked for me and quite a few others, I've tested it myself when I had bought my second device used, it came with this very issue, I killed what was left of it and let it charge over night, it's been remarkable ever since, but different folks different strokes, the next best thing to do is to change the battery since that solved it for others. And for the record, the oem battery is the best to replace it with since some anker batteries have only made it worse for some.
getting my newly acquired Amaze device in a couple of days and will see if i run into this issue... god hope not lol... if battery issue does occur - will follow thru the full batt drain solution (mentioned above).

I have my stock battery and 2 Ankers. The phone will randomly die with any of the batteries. The battery drain trick seems to work okay, but it certainly isn't a "fix" IMO.
I drained my stock battery last weekend and charged it to 100% on the Anker charger. Worked great down to 10% on Sunday. Charged the phone to 100% on the nightstand, while I slept Sunday night. Phone randomly shutoff at ~25% at work on Monday. Had similar results with the two Anker batteries too.
Hey guys please help. I barely use my phone and the battery still drains very quickly. If I charge it up to 100% before I go to sleep and then unplug it, by morning it is at 50%. The only sync option I have on is Gmail mail. I have 4G and wifi on but I really doubt those are killing my battery. In the time it took me to type this message I lost 2%. I can't live like this! Suggestions?
Ps for the first 2 or 3 days that I had my phone the battery life was fine. No issues.

Turn off 4g and WiFi for starters. Don't need 4g since lte is not out yet. And if your house has no WiFi makes no sense to have it on searching for something that is not there. Also hold home bottom and close apps and clear ram.

I've been having the same issue on my att galaxy s3. I think there is a bug possibly when the phone is having issues maintaining a data connection. I always know when I am going to have an issue b/c the phone will stay warm even when I'm not using the phone. The only solution I have found is to turn off mobile data. Restarting the phone every day seems to help as well. There are a few other threads from people having the same issue. I'm guessing it's the data connection connecting and disconnecting over and over again. Cell standby will usually show up as taking up the most battery life.

Unfortunately the lte does drain your battery. So does the keyboard vibrating with every click. Get a app that with shut down background apps when your screen is off and temporally disable data. Works for me since I usually have at least 10 to 12 apps running that I forget to turn off.

If you're using widgets that auto sync like fb, weather etc. By default they're set to sync every hour. The first day I got my phone I got 4 hours screen time and about 17 hours total on the battery, but I didn't have any widgets running. after I started running fb and weather it went to 1 hour screen time and about 9 hours total on the battery. Google+ was the main juice guzzler.

It's either a bad battery or you have too much crap running in the background.
Sigh....wouldn't common sense tell you that your battery is bad or there is a app wakelocking the device? A quick search would show that 4-6hrs of screen on time is nomal for this device depending on the setup.

There is nothing I could possibly do to make my battery go down in 1.5 hours, you've clearly got something wrong. Most likely possibility would be a bad battery. Also, make sure your charger is securly plugged into the wall or power strip, i've seen people, and it's happened to me too, have their chargers not seated all the way into the outlet and that CAN cause a "false charge", meaning your phone will say fully charged but it won't last long.

If you are in a low or no signal area your battery will drain about 10% an hour trying to sync. Turn off data in these areas.
My place of employment has zero service from Verizon. When I'm at home I only use wifi as soon as I leave for work I turn off both wifi and data. Phone calls and texts only and after 11 and a half hours my phone has only used 25percent of its battery. Not like it really matters to me because I always put my phone on charge right before I go to bed.
