[Q] Battery Varies Phone to Phone? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there truth that battery life varies handset to handset? Verizon is sending me a replacement phone since I have not found a solution to my recent data problems on the Fascinate. I would like to investigate the battery on it. But should I expect it to be very similar to the bad life I already get (never more than 10 hrs on stock or virgin adryn ROM)?

New battery to new battery life should be very similar.
But variables will effect what battery life you will actually get. It will be a different handset your new phones battery will not be calibrated, etc.

It's very vague...the battery life will vary mostly by the factor of personal usages, and little to do with the system itself.
Also are you getting a refurbished replacement?

Can you help me with my question on battery life? I had 45 percent battery and did a verizon roaming capabilities update. When my phone rebooted a few minutes later the battery had dropped to 15 percent. Any idea what caused this?

Yes it's a refurbished replacement. Unfortunately I can't get the original box in a reasonable amount of time so they were only able to send a refurb

I wouldn't recommend that...try complaining to speak to higher authority and get a new one. Originals are always better than refurbished ones. Did you try working with different modems for your 3g problem? DI01, EA28, EC01 and such

What ROM are you running? Have you recalibrated the Battery Stats? How has the battery been since then?
Really the best thing to do is charge the phone up completely and then use it normally and see how long it takes to reach < 5%

depends
before when I was stock, my phone would last all day, and when I plugged it in when I went to bed I would still have 30% - 40% left. Now that I rooted and am running 2.9.2 I will be lucky to have 10% when I'm done with work.

One Vibrant battery life better than anothers?

So I am on stock 2.2. Yes its unofficial and i get decent battery life with Superpower, could go all day with very minimal use. Now I took a look at my friends Vibrant today and a few things I noticed. He had used the display at full brightness longer than me, used phone calls a full hour more than me, pretty much did much more than I did with mine today, with us both taking the phone off charge around the same time. His battery percentage was at 49%, mine was at 20%.
Is it possible something else is going on with mine? I mean I have systempanel on, and I am checking what is using the cpu and its nothing. Nothing is, at least to drain it so badly. Maybe I got a faulty phone? Even on stock OTA JI6 I still had worse battery life. I duno? Anyway got any thoughts?
Then go and try swap batteries. then do the test all over again.
Ask your friendto give you his phone fir a few minutes then when he's not looking switch the batteries. I did this with my brother haha
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
lol I don't think its the battery, the battery seems to be dying at the correct voltage. Maybe it is a battery though, not sure. I flashed back to stock JI6 and will be doing more testing. These 2.2 roms just don't seem right, at least as far as battery life is concerned.

Flashing decrease battery life?

I have been flashing back and forth ROM and Mods... I felt my battery getting worse compare to stock (stock Rom removed lot of ATT craps and other unused app).
Now doesn't what Rom i use: S8, Unname and CM7. My battery died at the end of the day which should last 1.5 days as my normal use.
Hmmm... well I jumped onto the ship already.
But I have to thanks for all developers that cook Rom. You guys are best.
Battery lifestyle will improve once you build up cache. Was battery life good when you first got your phone? Probably not. After awhile battery life gets a bit better.
Sent from a Galaxy far far away...
I noticed the same thing when I flashed from UnNamed to S8.
I followed some other users' suggestions and reflashed at 100% battery life, allowed the battery to discharge all the way until the phone died, then charged all the way to 100% again without taking it off the charger. I just got 25 hours with moderate usage and about 4 hours of screen-on time.
download the batteryCalibration app from the market, it requires root and makes you charge to 100% first. After that let it drain and it should do better after a couple cycles.
If you delete your battery stats in clockwork the phone relearns them and works better. But it will be ****ty for awhile

None of these do jack on our phone. I've read the kernel source for our fuel gauge driver, clearly none of you haven't and are blindly applying HTCisms to a Samsung phone even though I've posted MANY times that diddling with batterystats does NOTHING WHATSOEVER on this phone.
If someone's experiencing bad battery life after flashing a new ROM, especially a debloated one like Unnamed or S8, they most likely installed a drainer app.
If you run Skype, nuke that crap from your phone ASAP. It's a known battery drainer, and it's particularly insidious because of how it drains the battery - the usage shows up as Android OS but it's Skype that is at fault.

Photon Battery - Sedio Extended

So I was one of those who was finding my battery life to not be sufficient on the Photon and bought the Seidio extended battery. First thought is that it does make the phone heavier, but I can deal with that. Not a deal breaker.
My issue is that the Photon doesn't recognize the fact that I now have the extended battery. I've spent the last two days using Battery calibration software (charging overnight to 100%) and then trying to discharge completely and recharge. The problem is that the phone continually is showing 1% for almost 3-4 hours if not longer. I can't get it to recognize that there is more juice in there.
While it's great that it seems to be working well (first real work day with it today), having the battery drain like mad (or seemingly) and then sitting at 1% for half or more of the day and not knowing when it will die is a problem.
I wonder if this is why the stock seemed to drain so quickly - maybe it's a programming bug? Firmware bug? I dunno. In any event, any suggestions on how to make the phone actually see that there's more juice would be great.
As an FYI I've used "Battery Calibrator" - both of them and Battery Drainer and Fast Discharge to get the phone down. I am rooted, but everything is stock other then the root itself.
I spoke with Sedio - they said I should unroot the phone and do a master reset. I can't believe that would make it work better - but I'd rather ask this community first.
Thanks!
Check in the accessory forum there is a couple things on the Seidio battery and some people there that have them may have run into the same issue and have a fix for it.
Can't seem to find a thread where people talk about aa problem with it. Can you point me in the right direction?

Ahh.. Ok - actually someone on AndroidCentral just responded indicating the same issue on a non-rooted phone.. I'm gonnna try doing a full restore to see if that helps..

have this battery, after the initial eight cycles allow nearly complete discharge, allow to charge for at least two hours after phone indicates battery is fully charged..... my battery is working very well, just use a battery indicator from the market, I didnt piss around with any battery calibrators, think this might be your problem, have never used a calibrator on any of my phones with extended batteries. Android market probly has an app to wipe your ass.....do you really need it? Hope the analogy is clear to you.
LOL fair enough. I did do the full flash this morning - so I'm unrooted.. Hasn't seemed to help - drain looks the same.. Been through about 6 full cycles since I got the battery. What battery indicator program are you using? I have battery circle and it's got the same issue.
Again - battery lasts just fine - but the amount of power left is never accurately indicated to me - and that's the problem.
I have had many Seidio Batteries, dating back to the OG EVO. The problem I have with this particular battery is this: These batteries work "properly" when charged on an Independent Charger, NOT inside the phone. If you Cycle/Discharge/Charge with this Battery on an External Charger, the Battery should calibrate correctly. I still believe the issue with charging within the phone, is that the Mopho doesnt accurately measure the Battery Capacity. Try and External Charger, should solve your problems....
riggy
Riggy -
Battery def is charging fully as I get tons of life - the MoPho only shows 1% left though for hours on end.. It's a matter of it doesn't see the correct amount of juice left. As per cutter2668, it may just be a situation of discharge - charge. Dunno.
As an FYI I did the full flash this morning, and I haven't really seen a difference in the phone telling me how much batt life I had left. I'll give it another day and hopefully after a period of time it will start reflecting a true number.
I have also emailed Seidio support directly on the issue.
So as an update, seidio is going to be sending along a new battery to see if that solves the issue. I guess we will see!

Any luck on the new battery? Just noticed my extended battery is doing the same thing. :-(
So things still aren't working right. Battery shows 1 percent for half my day and the Photon just doesn't know. However, I read a thread on Amazon about a generic extended battery and someone suggested using Battery Monitor and using Voltage Based monitoring. Its certainly not perfect but it gives you a somewhat accurate reads on remaining battery. I truely wonder if this is OS or a hardware limitation.
Oh well.

[Q] Horrible Battery Life - Second Device- Crap Kernel?

Anyone else experiencing horrible batter drain? Android OS is taking up 50-60% on average and it just eats it up while idle. I'm thinking about a return, this is my second handset, and with a locked bootloader, im losing faith in a quick solution. Any ideas?
Minimal use and quick setup with two to three app dowloads, and my 40% charged new device was down to zero in 2 hours.
I've noticed some battery quirks so far. My percentage drops 3% simply by locking and unlocking my phone within a few minutes. I've also seen it jump up in percentage once so not sure. Maybe there is something in the OS that isn't optimized that's causing the battery drain and quirks? I dunno. Be great to hear from some other people on this issue.

Hi give it a couple of charge cycles it will definitely improve.
Yes, I've got the same problem. The OS takes most of the battery. Idle is fine, but with any use battery drops very fast and gets extremely hot, as well.

Keep in mind that these are new phones with NEW BATTERIES. With that being said, you need to "cycle" (charge to 100% then discharge to 0% <repeat 3-5x's) the battery before we judge and jump into conclusions. Just sayin

For the record, I'm also having pretty lousy battery life. OS taking up 55%+. Last night I charged it to 100%, played with it until it was about 93% and then went to bed. Woke up this morning and it was at 65% with zero deep sleep and 80% OS usage.
Something's funky. I like the phone but can't be dealing with this constantly.
A:
EDIT: Turns out the extreme drain was from the radio. I had switched off LTE in the hidden menu and apparently that causes a ton of wakelocks and prevents deep sleep. As soon as I turned LTE back on, deep sleep came back. So that's somewhat encouraging.
I'll have to look at that. I'm getting a day with light use out of my second phone after a few charges, but it gets a little scary when im using it. I'm staying optimistic, my s3 was just phenomenal with battery life after rom kernel additions.
Can you explain how you turned off/on lte and the menu path?
I dont see an apn option other than the stock one (which im assuming is lte enabled). I'd like to see if it makes a difference. Thanks.
you need to enable network menu in the build.prop and a menu will appear where apn is

This is really disappointing. Physically, this phone is fantastic. It looks great and the specs are terrific but it's crippled by absolutely horrid software which I suspect is the reason for the abysmal battery life.
After my first day with the phone yielded less than 10 hours I decided to do a factory reset and set the phone to Eco Mode. That improved things slightly... I managed to get 14 hours but that was with limited usage. In fact, the only significant difference in results was that, in Eco Mode, Android OS shows that it is consuming 80% of the battery vs 53% the previous day.
There is something seriously wrong with these things... the fact that some people are saying that they aren't seeing the problem has me worried that it may be some sort of hardware-related issue.

I would guess those people that aren't seeing this are not looking at the battery stats, I have never seen Android take up this % of battery on any device and I have been using android since the Hero... about a good 15 devices or more ago I have lost count. Come next Thursday I am going to go switch out for something else if the boot loader is not unlocked yet.

[Q] Sudden death of battery

After upgrading my phone from ICS to JB, I experience a strange phenomena.
The battery life was 75%, and I was calling someone for about 2-3 minutes, then the phone turned off by itself.
The battery was 0%, in just 2-3 minutes!
When I upgraded the OS, I did factory reset. I rooted the phone, froze a lot of bloatwares, but the problem still persisted.
I am beginning to think that my battery is bad or something.
Anybody experienced anything like this?
Any solutions to the problem?
I tried charging the battery from 0% to 100% with power off for several consecutive days, but the problem still persisted.
I need help!
Batteries do eventually die. You can find a good extended battery on ebay for under $10.

After posting the question, I removed the battery to see if physical status of the battery was not the primary cause of the issue.
Well, the battery the"fat". The middle of the battery was bulging for some strange reason. It seemed as if it was left in the direct sun light for a few hours, and I know I did not leave the phone out in the direct sun light, ever!. Well, I ordered a new battery on Friday, and I will have to wait and see if a new battery would solve the problem. I will report back.
