Post Root Message indicator. - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i rooted my HTC TB. now the phone indicates i have two sms/mms messages. trouble is i dont see that i have any messages. i checked the various folders where they might possibly be, i powered on/off, powered down and removed battery and sim, and still the message bubbles indicate two messages.
any thoughts?
thanks
mark

That happened to me even before I rooted. It still happens sometimes, but eventually goes away on its own. You still having a problem?

issue resolved, i received some text messages today. deleted them and now everything is as it should be. kind of weird.
thinking about it... i did have a few unread t-messages prior to rooting. thinking somehow that was preserved in memory.

VZW and HTC are releasing an update that helps fix an issue like this (As well as GPS, etc). Currently, sometimes the messages are improperly stored in the Messaging application, causing problems like this.
The rollout for this update started yesterday.

[Q] having several issues..

first: sometimes while texting i get and SMS Error and it wont send my text.
Says: "General Problems"
if i click details then it says: Cause code: 65535
error class 3
sometimes i just restart the phone and its cool. but then after a while it does it again. now it just does it all the time. but usually to whoever i was texting. sometimes others are not affected.
EDITok so i might have found the solution but i will leave this hear for future reference) i removed the +1 in front of the number and texts are working fine as of right now. if anything changes i will re-edit again.
EDIT2: so this did not work for me. i read it on the vzw community forum.
second issue. GPS. cant get a fix no matter what i do. ive tried everything i could without hard resetting the phone. i even downloaded GPS Status and used that. nothing helped.
phone is all stock. no root.
any help is greatly appreciated.
I had the same issue with textimg yesterday. I could receive but not send and would get the error message you had. I rebooted my phone and have not had the issue since. I am curious as well as to what caused this issue. I am stock, not rooted, and using the stock messaging application.

Try the GPS Test Plus app. It shows you how many satellites you're connecting. It connects actually pretty fast.

Phone Not receiving

Im not sure why its doing this, but im on BAMF2.0 Remix, and i randomly just stop getting text messages. i have to pull the battery to receive them again, im in a 3g area with good signal.. is anyone else having this problem or is there a fix for it other than pulling battery?
if not i dont believe i had this issue with cm7.. dont exactly want to go back being i like BAMF..
Thanks!
For the first time since I had this phone I am having the same problem. Did you find a fix? What kernel were you using?
I pulled my battery and I'm still not getting SMS. $&@!

For most of last night from 9pm to about 2am I could not receive a text message no matter which phone sent me a text. Of course, I got several messages at 2am (that had been sent earlier that night) waking me up from sleep. I was able to send SMS but not receive. I did everything - battery pull, uninstall GoSMS and use stock messaging app (clearing the cache), cleared davlik cache and rom cache, lol... I tried everything.
Apparently this has happened to quite a few other people. I guess it just goes away after time? I am also guessing since none of my efforts fixed the problem that it is related to the Verizon network? Google: Thunderbolt not receiving texts.
None of the SMS I sent myself from my prepaid phone, from family members, friend, gf, or google voice made it to my phone last night.
I find it really upsetting that I pay $90+/month for this device and I can't even get SMS. Sure this is the only time that I know this happened, but .... lol. If could have happened before without me knowing it.
Low voltage kernel settings wouldn't cause this, would it?
Shesh.

[Q] How to disable auto popup of new messages?

Hello,
I have an interesting question. Normally when you turn off notifications, it stops all notifications, as I like to use handcent and I have a key code that I use to log into my phone.
The pop up still won't go away. Is there any workaround to this?
Have you tried going into the messages settings and unchecking notifications?

I have, and they were still popping up. I was running Suarom, I am actually having major issues now... but I asked this to help others who may have issues. Long story short, the custom firmware worked fine, it won't flash back to stock, and now it won't flash anything.
I am saving that for another thread.
But yes, when I was running Saurom, and turning off notifications did not stop the pop up from coming up.

Odd, I've flashed back and forth between saurom and stock with no problems. You should take that problem over to the sarom qa thread and letting them know. As for the notifications, it may be the sms popup app or another problem created by using a custom firmware. So you should probably include that in the saurom thread, as well. GL getting your stuff straight, bro

Thank you, and honestly it should work like that. Both handcent and the default sms program had all notifications turned off, and it was still happening.
Being its not writing to the nand, I am going to see if AT&T will take it back. If so, then I'll be the happiest person alive for the day. If not, well... I'll most likely send it to a developer who doesn't have one so they can go nuts on it and see if they can fix it, and use it for development.
Ironically, I'm having the opposite problem with the stock ROM. I cannot figure out why my pop ups stopped appearing even though I have notifications enabled. I can't figure out which program I may have inadvertently disabled, as nothing seems to make them happen again.

[Q] Multiple Text Messages Being Sent

So I posted this on the Paranoid Android thread, and I think that was the wrong place to post since I have no eliminated it as a ROM issue. Here is what has happened:
This is the reason I am posting here: today my text messaging has gone goofy. When I send a text message in the default, stock, PA AOSP app, the message says "sending" under it for a little while, then it says the "failed to send message" with the little red triangle on it. Meanwhile, the recipient has gotten 4 copies of the text. Yes, four. It has happened to literally everyone I have sent texts to today: iPhones, Droids, feature phones. I have clean installed the ROM and GApps 3 times today and it still happens. I wiped my internal and SD card from TWRP (got into a little issue there, had to figure out adb sideload, but we are all good now). Checked the MD5's before I installed. It's still happening. Other people with Verizon in the area that I know don't have this issue. Also, this was my 3rd day since installing the ROM, and it didn't happen the first two days, only today. Bottom line, I have no idea what's going on, and I need some help to fix it.
Update on the texting issue: I called VZW and went through their steps, and they said its almost certainly a device issue, and not a network issue. She said that my phone is having trouble contacting the SMS switch, and so it keeps trying to send the message, but it never hears back so then it reports that it can't be sent. The lady I spoke with did file a ticket for a "Network Technician" to take a look at the issue, but that will probably take at least 72 hours. I really hope this is either an issue with the ROM or with the network, because I really don't want to have to go through the process of unrooting and returning to complete stock to get one of vzw's crappy "like new replacements"
Update 2: Restores some of my backups from previous ROMs, including an AOKP 4.2.2 Milestone and an CleanROM VZW SE and the text messaging is still messed up. That pretty much eliminates the chance that its a PA issue, and it is most definitely either a device issue, or a Verizon Network issue. Cross your fingers that its a network issue so I don't have to go through the mess of returning to stock and all that.
Any possible fixes that you guys can think of?
Indeed its a device problem. I've got the reverse issue! I keep receiving the same copies of one message about 10 to 15 times a day. Due to this, the latest message from the respective recipient delays to the next day! I do have tried third party apps but still it doesn't work out... Need help!??

MAJOR messaging issues

Wow I'm about ready to toss this phone now. I keep getting an issue where messages starts to lag like crazy, and then CONSTANTLY force closes. I'm talking like every few words I type, it force closes. I'll open it back up, type a few more words, the FC again. The worst part is, I've already factory reset for this exact issue TWICE! Both times my phone ran beautifully for a few weeks, then all of a sudden out of nowhere messaging starts turning the phone to ****. I believe the first time this started was after the first minor update after the L release. I'm 100% stock. I don't really have any ideas for what else I can do since I've already done the factory resets and I'm not running any kind of modded software. I can't continue with factory resetting every few weeks.
Any ideas what's going on?
Not precisely sure what the problem may be. I have never had any major issues withe Messages app, but I've also never run the stock AT&T software for any significant length of time.
Try to run the latest RUU. Its a much cleaner way to update than OTA; and will re-image all software and hopefully fix the problem.
Well I might've figured it out myself. I noticed auto-delete messages was off. I cleared out my messages and magically it seems to be running smoothly for now. There must be some kind of bug once you hit a message limit or something...

I thought about that, since I remember at least on past HTC devices the Messages app would have major issues when there were too many messages.
But the factory reset would have wiped your messages; so I didn't mention it. Did you backup and restore your messages after the factory reset?

Yes I think I had restored following the factory reset at first. But then when I reset again, I don't think I did, which is probably why I've been ok for a few weeks now.
