I'm trying to get videos to play that I took with my Samsung GalaxyS. The most I get is the opening frame or no image at all but the sound continues. This happens with the stock video player, MoboPlayer, mVideoplayer. I'm running CM7 stable 2. I've done reboots and hard resets as well. Any suggestions?
have you tried Rock Player?
or VitalPlayer Neon?
Just suggesting a few other players i keep on my nook... not saying it'll work
I've had good luck with xyplayer. And trust me I've tried all of them.

Try mobo player from the market
+1 mobo player
I tried playing a video on my nookColor taken with my captivate and I was instructed, within the app, to use soft-decoding. Worked great.
Might also want to get the latest test kernel and try... 300/1300 on demand or conservative, I find those two to be the best for video for me.

There's a new OC kernel? I'm gonna have to check that out.
Also I tried Moboplayer - no dice.

I had a problem with a ripped dvd that worked one day, and didn't the next. I cleared cache, and it played for about 3 seconds then quit. I tried again about 2 hours later and it played the whole movie. This was all with stock video. I'll try some of the other suggestions here as well...particularly the new OC kernel...1300?! good grief! I hope that thing is stable *fingers crossed*
REALLY! I can't seem to find the link to that one though.....
I was also thinking that the Nook may not be able to play 720p video, cuz that's what Im filming at.

Yeah, doesn't support 720p, max size as of now 854 x 480. I tried the same thing with my Captivate and no luck, might need to convert using handbrake; reference this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028884, has some helpful tips and tricks that you might want to try out.

Actually it does. With software decoding in moboplayer, the newest kernel and the settings I mentioned before I play 720p easily. Even played a 720p movie with soft subtitles, no frame drop or audio out of sync.

I have the same settings as you mentioned (suggested 300/1300, etc.), and when I watch anime with subtitles it plays great on MoboPlayer, soft-decode 1024 x 720 voice and subtitle sync perfectly. but when i play another file, it doesn't work to well. I guess it might be that file, but when I play that file on my phone (Captivate) it plays like normal; I might try out various files and see what happens, thanks for the suggestion and incite.
I have the same problem with videos from my incredible. Not sure why phone recordings are an issue, but they seem to be. I can play new 720P movie trailers with mobo player neon just fine, but android recorded videos.. no go...
I've been using an iPhone for god knows how long just becuase of Air Video - there are no alternatives for Android. The Galaxy S II is looking absolutely perfect, but there's just one more thing I absolutely must confirm before I make the purchase.
I'm a huge anime watcher. I watch anime on the go all the time. The iPhone 4 uses Air Video and does that perfectly. Since there's no alternative for Android the Galaxy S II must be able to watch it without conversion for me to replace my iPhone with it.
My anime are almost always 720p, MKV encoded with h.264, softsubs. That's generally the industry standard for anime distribution. Will the Galaxy S II play these files without conversion. If it's a yes, then I'm ordering right now.
If someone here actually has one and watches anime, it would be much appreciated if you can download an episode and try it out on your device. Telling me your results would be much appreciated!
The most important thing is framerate, audio and subtitle rendering.
Havent watched anime specifically but tested a x264 encoded blu ray 1080p and that worked fine.
Edit: Have u got a sample that i/we could test?

I can confirm 720p (and 1080p as well most likely) MKV files (yes, anime. Tried it with released from gg, commie, UTW) with .ass/.srt softsubs play perfectly. The more advanced aspects of .ass subs don't work but it's no big deal - Styling, transition effects, etc.
I'm using mVideoPlayer instead of the stock one as the stock can't read .ass softsubs.
If I had this two years ago when i used to go on anime binges it would've been perfect. Didn't like waiting 30 mins for each ep to convert to 480x272 mp4s.
Should play them, make sure the subs file name is the same as the video (up to the file extension obviously). If the subs don't play try converting them to .srt subs and try again!
1920x1080 mkv's play fine, full speed. This is the only phone that's been able to play my 'Bad Apple PV' test mkv at full speed without the video/sound getting out of sync after 20 seconds.
However subtitles did not work in any of the players I tried (default, mobo & rock). Will look for another player later.

These MKV's don't have a separate subs file. They're built into the mkv as a separate data stream.
For those looking for an alternative to Air Video, I've been using Plex. It has a companion program that runs on your comp (just like air video) that converts pretty much any video format to stream to your android device. Only problem is that it's not quite as easy to set up to stream over 3g/4g as air video is. But if you know how to port-forward your router, it's pretty easy from there. Hope this helps some ppl!

Why are you not watching anime anymore? There are so many good things this season.
The S2 can play HD content no problem, it's the media player you should be looking at. If one doesn't read subs in MKV containers then just move on to the next media player and check. Yeah anyway, no problems.
As for why i'm not watching any, i'm too busy. I work/study 50+ hours a week now, I try to squeeze something in during the commutes though.
Enjoy your new beast phone.

Yeah, not sure why I was thinking of external subs. I have some 720p MKVs and their subs, of the kind you mention, do play in the default player for me...
...and to answer a question above: Yes! Seeking within 1080p content works just fine.

Thank you so much. Buying now from handtec.
I have the default player, moboplayer, mvideoplayer, and Rockplayer installed, each will do a little something the others won't. Interesting there is now enough CPU and RAM grunt for software decoding to manage things that were like slideshows on other phones.
whats the largest size file you can put onto the gs2?
tried to copy a 4.4 gb mkv to the phone and says its to large of a file,
do i have to create a partition in a different format?
if so whats the best method?
any help much appreciated.
On the subject of video, has anyone use DLNA to connect to a Twonky server? My G2X would connect but not play video. I'm hoping it's because the G2X couldn't support MKV which is what all me stuff's encoded in. Thx.
I have a 3gb 1080p anime movie I use for testing. Lots of things happening on screen. I dont watch anime at all, but subtitles was included in the movie and displayed fine.
1 was a subtitled Dragon ball z/gt(dont know really) but played fine with subtitles. the other was a soul blade(i think) that played smoothly also.
So is there any video player for wildfire which u could use t watch AVI and mkv files? I mean a one that doesn't lag like ****.

btw im on cm7 cpu @ 748
I'm on cm7 too and cpu @ 729 and when I tried mobo player it laged way too much you could nly hear the sound and see pictures lol. So really hope this works better
Edit: SO it's working great! Just a little lag though do you think it would run better if I set cpu higher
dunno maybe try a lower bitrate video
Encode videos with Handbrake and use the stock Videos app. Best way IMO.
QQPlayer
Ia orana everybody,
The most important is the resolution of the video, for a good watch you must change the video resolution to screen resolution and you will have a good quality.
I'm using QQplayer to read video file and Xmedia recode (witch have parameters ready for most phone) to change video resolution.
Thank you

hi
i'm trying to run 720P movies on my device, and unfortunatly their not running smooth at all...
at first i had no sound, so i downloaded a codec pack. it helped and now i can hear but it's still very laggy.
I don't want to start d/ling every codec pack on the market until it'll run smooth...
anyone knows what's the proper codecs for this device?
thanks

What type of 720P video is it? Perhaps it's your SD card not reading fast enough. The Quallcomm SOC is capable of playing back 1080P videos with no issues, so I'm not sure why 720P video is choppy.
Are you playing back in Software or hardware mode? Have you tried moboplayer on it?
well
i was playing from the devices memory, not an external SD. so its not that.
i dont know what software/hardware modes are
but i tried V player and it works ok for now. thanks
720 and 1080 both record and play back beautifully for me.

Use your PC to Rip em and convert them to mp4, then copy the mp4's to your Jetstream. It's not the most straight forward thing so you may have to google whenever you get stuck.

DL the MX Movie player app and then use SW decoding.
EDIT - recently installed vlc and when I select a movie it gives the option of playing with the native gallery movie player even though they don't show up when you open the gallery. Great picture and allowed for SRS AND 5.1 sound.
Mobo player does the job for me
Hi all,
I recently jumped the bandwagon and installed ICS leak on it. Tried Dagr8 Alpha 1 and 2. I also tried Collective. I really love those leaked roms (except maybe Alpha 2, so much lag in my case).
I need help with MX player. One of the biggest reason I bought the note was to watch a lot of my anime series when in the bus going to work/from work. I download animes in MKV format and the subtitles there are embedded. The anime I download are usually 1080p and 720p. I download this video size because sometimes I watch it on my computer too. So I just download it at large sizes so I can watch it anywhere with good quality.
Anyway, when I installed ICS and installed MX player, I'm having horrible out of sync with audio/video. It also gets worse when you watch the video longer. Sometimes out of sync takes a 4-second difference.
If I change from Hardware acceleration to Software, out of sync goes away but the playback is sooo laggy that you can't watch it too. ** Oh maybe not totally go away, as I just experienced right now (while typing this) that I had an out of sync issue even in software decoder. **
I never had any issue with GingerBread. All my anime video plays fine even in 1080p. I have not tried converting to Mp4 but I don't think it will make sense because it was working before with GB. I have a lot of anime and converting it would be a pain for me. Maybe there is a trick that I can do in ICS to fix this issue.
Are you guys also having out of sync issues with some videos in MX player? If not, please try playing videos in MKV with embedded subs and let me know.
I really want to stick with ICS. This is the only reason I'm going to go back to GB before I get to work on monday Please help, I really don't want to go back to GB anymore.
Thanks
bumping thread.
or maybe others can suggest a player that is like MX that uses hardware acceleration to play clips.
Mobo Player does not and I can't find any other player out there that uses HW accel for playback.
Thanks

Thanks. That would be awesome. I'm actually looking for a 1080p mkv movie video (even trailers will do) so I could just test it without subs. Surprisingly I can't find one .. lol.
If you are going to download, try mkv animes + embedded subs. I did other test with some other animes and noticed that not are all the same. Although all of anime have audio/video/subs sync issues but some of them only has .5 seconds lag. Some 2 seconds, extremes are 4 seconds. I would assume that whatever is causing this, is how the anime was encoded but when I play it with Gingerbread, not a single sync issue happens. So its either the ICS leak or MX Player.
Thanks again. Looking forward for your test results

Just downloaded ninja scroll episodes to test. The files are mkv with English subs. Everything seemed to be in perfect sync, but hard to tell on a subtitled video.
Just so you know, these are 65mb files so they're not of the highest quality but everything runs fine in terms of audio sync.

Ok so I downloaded ghost in the shell 2.0 and it's 720p mkv format. The mx player would not use hardware encoding to play it, but it played via "sw encoding (fast)".
I loaded up the subtitles and let it run. I skipped several places every 20 minutes or so to test. It played with no issues, audio and video were in sync with the subtitles.
You may want to try software encoding (fast) on your mkv files, maybe that'll work for you as well. You can adjust the encoder in the settings.

Ok I will try to do it. Maybe tomorrow since I already flashed back to GB. I only used software decode (not the fast one). But its weird that you don't have HW playback. hmmm. All my videos played in HW acceleration fine, of course except the audio/video sync.
Hmm ..
I actually found something interesting. MX player has issues with some subtitles with our leak ICS.
I tried Dice Player which also uses HW acceleration and I don't have any issue with the same video.
I also tried other ICS video players that use HW and there are no issues.
So, i think its just MX player.
