all he needs to do is install this on his pc and connect the phone via usb:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
fallow the instructions on how to root phone and install xrecovery (few clicks)
then download rom he wants (i sugest this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264 ) and put it on sd card and FALLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THREAD ON HOW TO INSTALL IT

hi
froyo roms you can use either wolf's cm6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264
or tripnmiui
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013210
these two are the most stable ones with vry minor bugs that wont hurt anyone
but if you like 2.3 roms....none of them to be honest is comple
tripnmiui is stable...no reboots but a2sd not working and camera is not fully implemented
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037855
and cm7 by Jerpelea is awesome but got some random reboots
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911364
there are other options as well if you just search this thread
and btw this not the right section to post a question.

Download the flash tool. Everything answered.
Root with it. Install xrecovery with it.
Most of the roms are stable. Pick anyone. Use 2.2 roms as they are complete with everything working.

hey guys
so just did everything as you said and it worked perfectly!!! thankyou and everyone who developed the programms mods and themes! niw my buddy is really really happy with his new and improved x10.

[Q] How to install Cyanogen CM7.0 RC2 v011 Gingerbread 2.3.3

I'm looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911364 and cannot work out if I've downloaded the correct file from the 2nd post or what to do with the rar once I've unpacked it?
I've already had a play with z's free x10 b3 & b4 & wolfbreaks CM6.1.3 v05, and I'm up to speed on flashing baseband via flashtool, so I'm not totally new to his, but I downloaded from the third link in the 2nd post and extracted but cannot find a zip file to use with xrecovery.
Is this ROM installed differently? Am I doing something wrong?
Any help woud be greatly appreciated!
look for: Update.zip
When you extract the .rar file there shoiuld be a file called update.zip. This is the file you can use from within xRecovery.
But why should you use v10. v11 is out and some of us experience less WLOD's.
v11 works for me, also with update.zip.
Good luck!
Thanks for the info, I'll give it a go at some point this week.

ei,
Haven't done it myself yet but the instructions provided by geppie sound sound like they would work. Which bit you struggling with?

I'm on the newest version 2.2.1 from Cyanogen right now.
Whats the different with this one?
I mean not the differents between 2.2 and 2.3 but: what is working already in 2.3?
There are camera issues. The camera app isn't working which means that you will not be able to take images.
You will experience random system reboots.
Basically for me 2.2 froyo rom us more stable than cm7

Thanks for the info.
I will wait till the 2.3.3 version is more stable.
Having done a bit more reading I think I'll stick with CM6 based ROM's for now, let CM7 become a little bit more stable!
Hopefully it'll be before SE release the 2.3 update
Knowing our devs it definitely will be : )
Yeah, I'm fairly new to these boards but I've been pleasantly surprised by the speed of new releases and updates for the ROM's that I've been using.
I'm still in the procss of trying to decide which ROM is best for me, so I'm having to go through constant reinstalls of all my apps and so on which is a nuisance but worth it for the improved speed & functionality!
psx you should use "my backup root" for all your apps so you dont constantly reinstall them.

There's ways around that?!? Will look for that in the market right now, if it works then you've saved me no end of time & hassle!

best custom android rom for sony ericsson xperia x10

hey all been a big fan of these forums for a while, and just got myself a wee bargain, an Xperia x10 (NOT MINI) big touchscreen phone boxed and unlocked for £90 off a mate. well the android rom on it stinks. its so slow and i just generally dont like it.
Ive been reading up on which is the best rom for this phone, and ive found that the 2 best are kX10 Custom 2.1 SE ROM – R2B001 (found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913610) and tripNmiUI Iris 1.7 froyo (found at http://android.modaco.com/topic/340637-rom-18-06-tripnmiui-iris-17-froyo-on-the-road-to-revolution/)
basically, i want a fast responsive rom that looks clean and nice, and is 100% fully functional.
thanks in advance guys, or if theres any better roms let me know.
squarehead94
You missed one: Wolfbreak's TW Gingerbread ROM, which right now is the most stable and provides the longest battery life. Of course, some users may claim otherwise, but the majority will probably agree with me.
Good luck with your X10 ;-)

oh, cool!
so out of the 3 then what would you say is the fastest, best battery life and the best for angry birds?
its just i heard that iris one is amazing, fast fully functioning and a great rom.
also, how would i go about installing one of these roms safely? do you have any links to installation guides for said 3 roms?
thanks for the reply.
squarehead94
Well, as I said, the best one FOR ME is Wolf's GB rom. It is 100% stable, gives very good battery life, and as for Angry Birds, that's sort of a funny question. You can play it flawlessly even on stock rom, unless the FPS is capped at 15 or something :-D . For the links, I can't provide them right now, but you can just go to Xperia X10 sub-forum, then to X10 Android development, then you will surely find all three threads easily with all the instructions and required downloads.

ah cool, well ill keep looking now and see which one i decide to use. thanks!
hey again, im currently running android 1.6 baseband 1.0.14 x10i. how would i go about installing the wolf rom? i dont know whether to update to 2.3 then do it or what cheers!
Hmm.. 2.3 should be out in most parts of the world, so just plug your X10 into your PC and install SE PC Companion. Then search for updates for your device, and it will be done automatically.

Go to youtube and search for - Xperia X10: Flashing Wolf's Tweaked v2.3 Gingerbread Firmware.
This video explains everything you want to know .
Tried many roms till now, gingerbread (TripNMiUI - MIUI 1.8.26,FeraLab, Achotjan, Oodie etc) , ics (cm9 Free Xperia Proyect, donut), For me the best experiencie was TripNMiUI - MIUI 1.8.26 but it is a shame that Trip stop developing on x10 so the rom its a kind old.

[Q] X10 mini pro custom roms????

Hey, Admins.. I want to know which is the best custom roms available for xperia x10 mini pro>>>
Thnx in advance...
Im using miniCM7pro v18
I recommend it.
Make sure u read the install instructions to avoid problems.
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
I have MiniCM7 Pro v18 too everything works great
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
I suggest Ginger DxV14 . No Battery drain issues at all. Me using it
Not the original version as it had issues with Messaging.
Replace the mms.apk.
To do this replace the mms.apk in the system/app using 7-zip in the computer and then move the ROM to sd card and install
if you like a minimal rom try 2.1.1Clean.0.0 from pfonck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206625&page=21.
if you like advanced settings and options try gin tonic SE from slade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207740
read carefully the discription in the thread and anything works fine. Don`t forget to thank them for the work

Thankx very much Guys for this Suggestion.
But
i just installed custom rom MiniCM7_V21 on my smartphone Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
This rom is absolutely amazing. Thanks to all those who built this rom but i have some problems in this rom though this rom is amazing in comparision to android 2.1 update-1. Some of tiny things make SE Original Android 2.1 better than this custom rom Some of the problems i felt in using this rom are:
1) Wifi not working properly.
2) No Youtube application and Not working when installed manually.
3) No Google Maps.
4) Although Camera application is better than previous custom roms the Camera application of android 2.1 is far better.
5) Browser wont download smoothly like in SE Original Android 2.1
6) Both Tethering and portable wifi hotspots option doesnt works.
7) Very poor battery life (i.e 4/5 hours standby)
8) And The phone lags frequently.
These are some of the problems i felt in using this custom rom.
Do You know how to Fix these problems???
I would say there is no "best" rom out there. Each rom works differently on each phone and also down to user preference.
I'm using Flame.e v0.3 on ZombiePanic Kernal and i'm happy with the rom after a few minor adjustments.
Battery life was a slight issue after i installed the apps i use frequently. Buit after installing juice defender i have noted about x2.19 extra in battery life (was getting 12 hours, now getting around 24 hours
I'm using MiniCM7Pro V21 by paul-xxx. It's my favourite rom.
I also tried a few other ones but this is still the best for me.
Greetings, Steiff

Installing MiniCM7Pro v21 OR CyanoCream

My kernel is the stock version. Basebands and all other requirements have been met. I have rooted my x10MP with Flashtool and unlocked Bootloader. I have also installed CWM. I do not have xRecovery installed as I assume one recovery program would be sufficient.
According to MiniCM7Prov21's thread, all requirements have been met. However, when I try to "install zip from sd" in CWM's menu, it always returns a message saying "Installation failed".
This was the same for CyanoCream's ROM.
Could someone help me out please? I've tried reading through the other threads but it seems no one had such problems.
The steps I followed were from the following threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553036

Greatly appreciated.
As far as I know, both use xRecovery (a 1 year old recovery). I suggest you to install nAa's kernel and install or MiniCM7 2.2.0 or CyanogenMod9 v02.

so I would need both CWM and xRecovery on my phone in order to be able to install either miniCM, CyanoCream or any of the mods that you mentioned above?
Hmms might be worth a try then.
Thank you.
Will post back here whether it works or not.

No, no need for both. xRecovery is old. No one uses it anymore.
Just flash nAa's kernel (there is a lot of guides out there), boot in CWM, flash either Mini CM7 2.2.0 (Android 2.3.7) or CyanogenMod9 v02 (Android 4.0.3) and be happy.

The first one is, with sure, the more stable. I recommend the second only if you want a really tasty Ice Cream Sandwish phone. It isn't the MOST stable, but it's more stable than a lot of other ROMs.
Good luck and give us a feedback if everything went well and if you liked.

Hi there! I've successfully installed MiniCM and it's working fine. Really like the new design. A little question though. As I need to time in Mandarin/Chinese from time to time, could you point me to any sources that can help me install a Chinese/Mandarin keyboard in addition to the default Android keyboard?
There's a little problem though. Whenever I miss a call, the phone will play a song along with the notification. However, this song isn't set as my notification tone. In fact, it is just one of the songs in my music library. Is there any way to work around this?

Heh Heh~ you've been of much help though. Thank you very much.
I've decided to search around the market for some chinese input apps. May try to pull out the stock chineseinput apk from my mum's X10 Mini when she's back ^^
As for the ringtones...I've managed to find a workaround, albeit a little troublesome but no worries.
once again thank you very much =)
