Are there any good widgets that displays facebook/twitter and other social networking updates like the stock feeds and update widget in TouchWiz? I am using ADW, which obviously doesn't have access to the Samsung widgets (stupid Samsung for putting them in a non-stock location). I really liked that widget, and would like something similar, instead of having to use separate widgets for Facebook and Twitter.
Scrollable widget is a plus!

I love pure messenger. Much better than the stock Samsung app in my opinion.
I too miss that TouchWiz Updates and Feeds app. I will give the Pure Messenger widget a try, seeing how I was looking for a good email widget as well.
Is the only problem with getting the Feeds and Updates widget to work the location? If so, where does Android keep the stock widgets in the filesystem? I am thinking it might be possible to move the F&U widget to where the stock widgets are located and use it from there. Anyone have any insight as to whether this would even be possible?

I don't think that's possible because those widgets are built into the tw ui. If that wasn't the case then we would've already had sense widgets running on adw and launcher pro.

Actually, I searched through astro file manager and I was able to find the apk for all of Samsung's Widgets. I do know you can copy the apk and edit it though, as I was able to to so. However, I don't know what or how to "fix" them to use outside of touchwiz.
Anyone willing to take a look at it?
I would be really interested to hear if anything comes about this, i too miss it and would like to know if it can happen.
Nobody is going to "take a look at it" because it is not possible.
Couldn't find a free version of pure messenger I always pay for the full version of apps I like, but never pay for apps that don't have a way to try before you buy. If there is a free version could someone through a link this way ? Thanks!

You always have a 24 hour period with the Android market. If you don't like it, uninstall/cancel and it won't charge your card. You only get to do this once per app though.

It comes up periodically on the -dev list that this is actually harmful to developers: if a user install it, and doesn't like it (or doesn't get to give it a proper test, or it has a bug on their device) and refund, thats it. They will never come back because it was broken and they don't get to try again.
If there is a trial/limited/ads version and that happens, they can try again when the bug is fixed (or when they have more time, or a better environment, etc.)
On the vibrant this likely happens a lot, since it has such performance issues to begin with - "I installed foo, and my phone started locking up, so I refunded. Now its been a week and it turns out it wasn't foo at all, but I can't try it again..."
Tmobile has a new app that does several social sites in one its pretty good, but not perfect for one it doesn't have an associated widget.

Yeah it really does need a widget.
You have 24 hours after purchasing an app on the android market to "return" it and get your money back.
You can buy Launcher Pro Plus. It has a scrollable Twitter widget that's the best you'll find in the market. Plus he's constantly updating and is adding Facebook support.

I'll add my vote for Pure Messenger. Dev is also one of the most reponsive out there, so if there is ever an issue, it won't be there long.
Widget does all gmail, email, sms, facebook, twitter, and scrolling messenger list widget is great in adw and lp, soon also livehome has scrollable widget support.
Livehome is fun enough to deal with the lack of scrollable widget support until it's done.

I've been using Pure Calendar for a while now. I love the naked look.
I just bought Pure Messenger to give it a shot. I really like the look of Sammy's widget but this would match up nice with my calendear.
Try an app called sotiallite it has twitter and facebook. It's a widget but not scrollible.

Hey guys,
how does Samsung Touchwiz feel in the daily usage, assuming you come from HTC Sense?
I currently own a HTC Hero, and I need a new phone. How is the Facebook integration, calendar and email client?
Cheers, Martin
Hi,
I'm used using sense on android and winmo on a HTC.
when I compare it to Touchwiz, the samsung version feels odd, unlogical.
Personally I don't care a lot about Touchwiz.
Back to your questions:
Email client: (Gmail) it's almost the same
Facebook: I don't know i don't use it.
Twitter is the same too.
Calendar: I didn't like the one on Sense and I don't like the one on Touchwiz. I'm using Smooth calendar (free app)

First you are just happy with your new girlfriend and don't even think bad of her if she does things you think is strange...
You accept a lot, and think you just need to adjust and that everything will work out in the end...
Don't misunderstand me now.... you still Love the looks on your girl, her beauty is stunning.... but do come to the conclusion that looks often isn't everything you need...
So.. when you recognize this sad fact you will quite fast think of solutions to reproduce your old girlfriends habits and ways of doing things you loved about her....
You would probably install a new launcher, Go SMS, Go Dialer, Go Contacts and other beautiful widgets....
And soon you realize.... Beauty and mind does exist in one package after all...
And you are in love yet again...

I've never cared for the Facebook for HTC add-on and Peep (Twitter add-on), so always used the official Facebook/Twitter app sync.. Touchwiz does have its SNS aggregation app which is similar to HTC for Facebook/Peep, but not using it either
Linking contacts is the same in the Touchwiz contacts app as it is in the HTC contacts app. Although Sense does auto-link contacts far more efficiently (always autolinks whatsapp contacts whereas I've had to do that manually in Touchwiz) and there are no notifications for suggested contact merges in Touchwiz.
The calendar is the same, doesn't look as nice but offers essentially the same functions
The email client is a bit better as it has multiple Exchange ActiveSync support with HTML rendering.. also allows split-view in landscape mode which is a nice touch.. although it is a bit of a battery hog.. have 3 accounts set up on push and it uses over 15% of my battery, used to use Seven on my HTC and would use under 5%.
Overall, I prefer Sense over Touchwiz
I used to own the HTC Desire. I like Touchwiz a lot. Personally, I think that sense looks a little tired now. Even their tablet looks like a bloated version of their existing phones. But then touchwiz is all new to me, and I love the SGS2, so maybe my judgment is clouded.

I miss sense, it has so many little touches touchwiz (and 3rd party launchers/widgets) miss.
Coming from Sense first from TP2 and then from Desire there was quite big change.
But I didn't actually like Sense that much and used to use Go Launcher.
I am still using Touchwiz but there are some issues which are really annoying.
First of all the home screen is the most left one. That is so stupid. Probably the biggest issues with touchwiz.
Calendar app I think is better than with Sense. I actually uninstalled smooth calendar after finding this.
Also strange thing is that with Sense I could look my facebook pictures from the gallery application. Currently I cannot do it or then I just dont know how to do it. But that is a big downside.
After all touchwiz is not so bad as people are complaining. I dont miss the extra eye candy from Sense 3.0 and there are some good things with this UI. I would give it 7+

I've come from an HTC Desire and for me, TouchWiz is a clear improvement over Sense in some ways, and needs a lot of work in others. It certainly feels faster, but that might just be down to the horsepower that the GSII has available. Also, you're not forced to have 7 home screens. I have 2 home screens with my essentials on them and nothing else. I guess I'm a minimalist
Facebook integration is decent, although the Contacts app isn't as good as Sense at auto-linking Facebook contacts to your existing contacts. Calendar is nice, although for some reason it can only pull in your events calendar from Facebook. As I recall, Sense was capable of pulling in events and birthdays. I don't use the built-in email app (I use the Gmail app instead).
Other niceties:
- Built-in MSN client
- Decent camera (far better than the Desire anyway)
Other niggles:
- The lock screen takes some getting used to. I ended up installing an alternative because I didn't like it.
- The apps list is more akin to how apps are ordered on the iPhone than on other Android devices: you have to manually order them rather than them being ordered alphabetically.
- The media scanner is unable to process the metadata in AAC/M4A files. They play just fine, but show up as "Unknown Artist" etc. in the music player.
All in all though, it's a brilliant phone. I was blown away by how fast it is coming from a Desire, so moving to it from a Hero will blow your socks off.
Don't care for it personally - feels clunky and outdated.
I went SPB first and now LauncherPro - much happier.
If I had been stuck with TouchWiz though it'd still have been an excellent phone...
I never cared for Sense on my HTC device when I used it, I flashed a stock CM7 based rom.
So the look was minimalistic.
The TouchWiz needs some work doing to it, for example (and I may have missed something here), the programs in "Applications" are added in the order installed. I prefer the A - Z scrolling icons (not the list you can get it TouchWiz).
LauncherPro for me any day, or GoLauncher maybe as a 2nd choice.
TouchWiz doesn't do it for me I'm afraid... The dialer is great, but I don't like the dock/app drawer at all.
It took me ages to get used to Launcher Pro after using sense, but now I cant use anything other than Launcher pro (with it set up the way I like).

You know a default.prop edit changes that to have the default screen wherever you want.
how do u do that pulser?
I went HTC Sense (On a Hero) to an iPhone 4 to SGS II.
Played on a DHD a lot whilst having an iPhone 4. I find Touchwiz 4.0 quite nice, very smooth and I prefer the browser to sense I have got used to the smoothness of the iPhone. Never liked the way the Sense browser scrolls and to be honest it's hardly changed since the Hero days, etc.
used a couple of htc devices with sense, the last one was a rooted desire with a combination of sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 and I must say that in terms of hardware samsung is ahead of any htc right now but touchwiz has nothing to do with the usability of htc sense
I don't like the calendar on SG2 (app and widget) and I need that, I don't like that SG2 social hub is not better integrated with contacts ... etc. I just love my new SG2 but I have to say it, HTC did a great job with sense
And one important thing - SG2 "smart" dialer is not so smart and some contacts I will only find if I make a search contacts, they will not appear if I type first few letters from the name .... and I hate that ... it was so easy on HTC to call someone when driving ....
I can't wait for a decent port of htc sense 3.0 on my SG2
until I will find it I have to remove touchwiz and buy spb shell 3d from the market
I came from DHD and Touch Pro 2, Tytn II with Sense.
Don't like the Touch Wiz/Samsung
-Keyboard (spezial characters on second page)
-E-Mail App (no multi Mail markers to delete at once)
-Music Player
-Facebook Integration
-Dialer
-Wheater
-no control over WLAN, GPS, 3G, Data Connection, Bluetooth, Thetering, Fly Mode and many more options etc. in one place
etc.
SGS II has a lot of power an could handle Sense easy, once it has been portet.
Sorry but TW is IMHO crap...
Would love to see a Sense Rom on SGS II
am i the only one that actually likes touchwiz??! I find it does everything really smoothly. Sense was overwhelming. It changed too many things! Once landscape is introduced for touchwiz il probably be using it by default.
Indeed, I love the TouchWiz interface and gladly choose it over sense. Since you can install a calendar widget on Samsung, but you can't get away from sense on a HTC. TouchWiz is really fast and don't change the Android experience in a bad way.

I wasn't too fond of sense and ended up not using it in favor of adw although I occasionally went with GO and LP. Had them all on the phone. As already noted the default home screen can be moved in touchwiz, search for the thread and there are detailed instructions. Rooted users can also sort the app drawer alphabetically with an app called sort apps. It will come up in a market search for touch wiz. I am using touchwiz now but essentially with all the wiz removed. I dislike hubs as they are more bloat than benefit to me and have never used them. I love the little slider that lets you cross the home screens. Easier and quicker than pinching and done one handed instead of having to two hand to pinch or swipe all the way back and forth. I have been giving touchwiz a go for a while now. I also have LP and GO installed and I'm finding I like touchwiz once its been de wizzed. If it were customizable in being able to choose rows and columns and that sort of thing I would be happy with it.
TouchWiz has the option of getting everything in alphabetical order and in up/down list. You can move apps freely around the different pages in original mode if you wish too. I love it and the quick switches in the notification bar just makes it great.

+1 for QuickPic
will have to check it out; i HATE that the new gallery is all timecode based; i have all my pics (i am a published pro photographer and cameraman) organized meticulously and the new gallery wont let me just see everything in the old froyo file system. plus it is (WAY) slower and will not properly load thumbnails so 95% of my shots (which i keep in full res on the external SD card) show up without a thumbnail or title.
totally unacceptable to me. also i dont do social networking (AT ALL, i call/tango/skype if needed and talk or text but i prefer REAL human interaction) so tagging etc is useless for me.
+982343 for QuickPic
Super fast, and also renders images you use for WALLPAPER without any quality loss; if you set a wallpaper using the stock gallery vs quickpic you will see a stark difference.

Another vote for Quickpic here... Flashed 2.3.4 a few days ago and I have been more than disappointed with the new stock gallery app. Quickpic is definitely the answer. It organizes everything for you.
Sent via Motorola Olympus
Quickpic has my vote! So much easier to use!
Agreed quick pic is great but I also use b and b http://gallery.breadandbuttertool.com/ which has better folder options in certain circumstances imo. Those 2 though are all I need really!
quickpic!!
Quickpic is about the best.
But one feature that they ALL lack is an ability (option) not to recursively show subfolders.
ie, I have a folder called pets, and inside two more called cat, and dog. From the main gallery I only want to see pets and any images in pets. If I want to dig into cat or dog, I want to see those as subfolders. Just like folders in Windows.
If you like the idea of this, send an email to the author of quickpic. I requested this and he likes the idea. He said maybe if more people request it.
Okay, my personal mission aside.
Has anyone frozen (TiBu) the stock gallery app? I don't like it, and I'm tired of it littering my /sd with cache folders all over the place.
Yet another vote for quickpic.
Hey guys. I did a factory restore on my phone for reasons unrelated to the gallery, but when it was done, the factory gallery now works flawlessly. It loads up almost instantly and the thumbnails are perfect. I still think I like quickpic better, but I thought I would let you guys know what happened.

I have tried a few gallery apps because i totally hate the stock gallery app as well. I love how smooth QuickPic is. They recently released a latest version of this app, making pinch to zoom look like eye candy.
Have a look at this youtube link and see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQdOwRCh__g
*Note: This is the old version of QuickPic though....the latest version is WAY smoother.
ok folks, I've had this phone a couple months, and here's some things I wonder if you can help me with since I am new to android. This phone has great potential, I just don't know the OS as well as my last phone.
#1
what should I use to set the phone to vibrate during "busy" calendar appointments? I swear my first palmphone from 2002 and everything since has done this automatcially. I'm using light flow to shut the phone up at night so it doesn't wake me up with notifications, but it doesn't do well with calendar notifications.
Tasker?
#2
What calendar widget would you recommend that will show me full day events, and will show them on the day of the event. The stock widget blows. Ideally I'd want something scrollable, but I may have to get a new launcher for that?
#3
As a corollary to the new launcher, how can I get things like messaging icons & vmx icons that actually show new messages? Like as a little number over the icon like in sense? The other day my phone crashed & rebooted (as it seems to be prone to do) and even though I had new emails I didn't know it because the notifications were cleared.
#4
Would a new/different launcher update profile photos of contact shortcuts that were placed on the "desktop"? When people update their profile photos it doesn't update the photo on the shortcut (using contact shortcut, not the moto ones)
#5
Is there anything I can use that will create seperate volumes for when the headphones are plugged in? I'm so used to my old TP2 having seperate volumes, I've blasted my ear drums out twice because I hit play without checking the volume first. I ended up puting a "sound settings" shortcut on my home screen, but thats only kind of a workaround.
#6
How can I add widgets to the lockscreen? I'd like to be able to see weather on my lockscreen. I miss my CHT locker that showed shortcuts to unlock directly to text/email/vmx if they had any notifications.
#7
How can I merge contacts? I have a few contacts where these people must have put their middle initial as part of their last name in their facebook/linkedin profile, so there are two seperate contacts listed in two different places on the contact list.
#8
While on the subject of contacts, is there any sort of manager that can consolidate the communications with that contact into one place? I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but I liked the sense people tab where I could swipe from the contact card to text message conversation with that person, to emails from that person, to their social media updates.
I didn't think that I really loved sense that much, but after I had it all tweaked with CHT I find that I really miss being able to customize so many things. Is there anything like CHT for android? Maybe I should have stuck with HTC, then again I don't really know, maybe sense for android is different too.
Ok, thanks for reading, and please share any suggestions you may have.
I DO like the phone, I just want to like it more!
I'm too busy right now to answer everything, but it sounds like you need Launcher Pro Plus and Widget Locker. As far as merging contacts, go into the contact, hit menu then edit contacts, hit menu again and there is a join contact option.

Hope I don't get shot for this, however, I am in need of some advice to help me get iPhone style notifications on stock sense Rom. For example, right now I can only get notifications from the android mail app but not Google mail app or my touchdown mail app. my text messages do show up, but I can't make it show the name of sender but hide content. It either hides both or none. Phone is rooted, is there any program that lets me do this without removing the stock Rom? If I have to flash a other Rom to get this level of customization, which Rom and subsequent mod would you suggest. This is the only thing I don't like about this phone.
