How to convert a rom to md5/tar - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Odin helped save my phone. It's still quirky, but functional. Would like to odin a new/current rom. Is this possible, and how do I change zip rom to md5/tar?
Thanks, PY47

I still have my vibrant, despite top posting.

Honestly, for the time involved, and the space and ODIN file takes up compared to a .zip file, it's not worth it.

What if you have the Samsung Galaxy S 4G? Then your only option is to use an md5 file with odin. How to we go by converting these files we get into a zip to use with odin? Thanks.

You have to have a program like winzip to unzip the file.

Do you have to be rooted for this to work?
Nope, this is going to be done from your computer. Depending on which package you choose it will include root after its finished flashing.

Pure stock Odin flashable files

I have been trying to find a stock Odin file all day to go back to pure unrooted stock for my s3. Has anyone else been able to find one?

Searching just a little would have led you to your answer. In any case here you go:

I already downloaded the link your posted but it is a zip file. Is there some way to rename this or can it be flashed as is with Odin?

Can't find the .tar file

Hello.
According to this, I have to download "1.1/4.0 KERNEL IN .TAR FOR ODIN" since my phone is not rooted. However, I can't find the "1.1/4.0 version in the list" and if I download the newest version, there's nothing with .tar extension.
Can anybody help me where I can find the file or suggest any other kernel that has CWM? I don't care about the quality of the kernel, I just need the CWM to be able to access my files via USB.
Thank you.
Agreed. That link takes you to a Page of zip files. Can you flash the older tar file via odin in PDA to gain root then flash newest version as a zip via CWM.

I'd flash any version, even the oldest one, but I can't find any .tar files I could flash.
Look further down the Page there is a tar file there

The actual stock image? I'm not looking for the Odin program, I am looking for the stock tar,
and yes I know about the "skip" button. It takes me to some stupid "internet vs hollywood" page or something stupid...
