Regarding the shutdown of the camera when the battery reaches 15%.
Does the SGS II have this annoying feature like its predecessor, SGS (1) ?
camera will load but refuse to take pictures below 15%
camera will kill music if loaded
shutter sound, can't be muted
brightness, sharpness, and saturation can't be adjusted anymore

OK you can stop the shutter sound by deleting the file for it in /system/media/audio/ui/
I have an APK that won't shut down camera below 15%, but I need the device to be able to get it working, due to signature issues on files. So it's here and I sent it to someone via email, but I can't release it until mine arrives and I can start work on it

Sounds quite terrible. Is the adjust option greyed out or gone? Are you totally sure that "auto contrast" is off? On my SGS1, I cannot adjust brightness, sharpness and saturation when auto contrast is active.
Also, when certain sceneries are chosen, adjust is not possible. For most sceneries adjust is greyed out. No scenery is more or less equal to manual mode compared to a compact camera/SLR

I just installed Android 2.1 and rooted it. In the brightness setting there is no longer a selection to choose the Auto-brightness setting, just a slider for low and high brightness.
Also I noticed the Power Widget that has the brightness control switch lets you switch between low, auto, and high, but while in Auto (the dimmer setting while the button is ON), the sensitivity is very poor and will only brighten the display by about 10% while moving from a very dark environment to a very bright environment.
Yup, i agree. This sucks. Although i had forgoten how nice everything looks with the brightness turned up. All the same id like to have it back.

cant expect everything in 2.1 to be perfect. Yes it has taken them a while but i wouldnt expect it to be without any flaws!
At least we got it finally. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

I thought this today too but the Auto Brighten IS there and still working, just a bit differently.
Initially you choose the 3 levels of brightness on the quick select from the 5 widget icons. This is the brightest it will go, but if you go from a dark or light room it DOES indeed still adjust.
I noticed this after a bit today just standing in the kitchen watching the movers do their thing at my old place. The sun was ducking in and out of the clouds and the auto function was working fine. I tried it in all 3 modes, the only one it doesn't do anything in is the least bright mode...the one I noticed it most is the middle bright mode.
So YES, it is indeed working, just differently.
The auto Brightness sucked in 1.6 anyway. It was never that good for me. I use a brightness widget to adjust it.
I much prefer the way it works now. Seems to be a lot more user friendly tbh
have you tried the setting in spare parts (from the market)?
I've not tried it myself, but I know the auto setting is there.
Auto birghtness
Hmm. I have the 2.1 update and I have set the brightness to the low setting in the power widget. The brightness still adjusts automatically, and I don't want it to. I want it to stay at a low level all the time to save my battery. How?!
Since the SGSII has a pretty good camera I was wondering if it is possible to manually lock exposure, shutter and ISO settings?
With a full HD resolution I would like to get some nice filming done but without the camera automatically adjusting settings. It ruins the look.
Maybe there is already software out there which I havent found?
Cheers!

The main thing is seems that you'll want to do is to manually adjust the white balance rather than keeping that on Auto.
Exposure lock: There's no exposure lock. However, you can manually adjust the exposure value. So if you want to shoot something bright, you can lower it. If you want to shoot something dark, you can increase it.
Shutter speed. There's no way to manually adjust the shutter speed. (So you can't capture something like a waterfall with slow shutter speed to get the motion effect.) Like most non-DSLR cams, the shutter speed is automatically adjusted depending on lighting conditions, flash, and ISO.
ISO. Yes, ISO can be manually adjusted.
The cam is great and can probably replace most people's dedicated point&shoot cams. But it's definitely not as versatile as even a budget DSLR cam.
The camera changes exposure wile you are shooting. That my problem is.
When I walk out of my flat with my camera switched on I don't want to see the automatic exposure correction. Dunno how to describe but have you never seen the effect when you pan from a window to your wall? It must be possible to lock these settings to eliminate the automatic correction.
What I like to see as an option is the autofocus, I got lot's of refocussing in low light conditions when focus was actually perfect
Also would be really awesome if you could set the exposure time to image starry nights, I mean, the device is called Galaxy is it not
Unfortuanely I am not a developer so I cannot contribute to these options and can only hope some cool devguy with the knowhow has the same wishes as me
Does anyone have a solution to auto brightness issue?
Even in the darkest room, the lowest light level is "medium" and not low! Its excellent setting when using phone outdoors but in dark room or at night its just too bright. Is my phone broken or is it general windows phone setting?

on my titan, the auto brightness behaviour is erratic and sometimes goes too low.
the camera is one of the issue triggers. after every return from a photo session, the screen goes to a lower brightness.
also, sometimes it happens when unlocking the phone but i don't know what triggers it. then suddenly the screen would return to its normal brightness after a few seconds, although not always.
i suppose it's a driver issue...

so you get the autobrightness to go as low as 'low' set manually? - I tried it but even after camera the lowest brightness I am getting is same as 'medium' when set manually!

no, not that low only lower.
but you are right, even in complete darkness the screen won't go to its lowest setting...
Yes same issue here.
Automatic can go a little bit lower than medium, but not much. Too bright in dim environement.
For general use, i would like to have a preset between low and medium
Since these days many people like ultra bright screens (and ultra loud sound) i am not sure HTC will try to fix this "issue".
I just hope Microsoft can add a brightness slider in the future. (Or bility to set the min auto and max auto levels)
Btw, do you know why camera mode go into max brightness ? This is a little harsh indoor.

Yes that behaviour is very strange too! I think it's present only in the Titan. Some other windows phone manage the camera brightness a little better. But then I think increased brightness while using camera sort of makes it little pleasant when using it outdoors. But indoors as you mentioned, it's a bit too harsh brightness!
I think it's the light sensor that doesn't work properly. Some places/forums mentioned about issues with various HTC driverseven after those 2 softwares updates we received in Nov-early Dec.
In daylight, the auto brightness works wonderfully for me,I never change it.
But in a fairly dark room,it's too bright and most of the time,I set it to low
I usually set it to medium... and set to low by myself by night.
I have sent a message to HTC (via theirs contact/ticket system) about the "can be improved" auto brightness, and "camera set brightness to max" issues.
Better than nothing.
Since this is a easily reproductible problem, maybe they can take a look if they receive several messages about this.
I wonder if the screen going to max brightness with camera may have something to do with the "HTC Camera modes" addon ? (who knows..)
But i don't see how to remove it. I even can't find it on the marketplace (under HTC section).
I have same issue, I get blinded when I check the time on my phone at night
It was there even before camera modes update was applied by HTC. So unlikely

Obviously, the brightness go to max too when using skype with video.
Hope they will notice and fix it.
Trying to talk to HTC customer service is especially unhelpful here in france.
They have absolutely no knowledge of theirs WP7 products
(whatever the problem encountered)
Now that we have unlocked roms, any way to tweak the auto brightness ?

I've tried all 4 ROMs and they have the same behaviour as stock ROM at the moment. But it might be useful looking into the registry threshold values. I know there is some sort of home brew app that lets us set the volume increase in 10s, 20s, 30s or 50s. So a regedit might be somewhere, will dig around myself since you've reminded me again
I have noticed that the camera has a feature to increase the Outdoor visibility of the screen, is there anyway to apply this to the normal screen (ie any screen other than in camera mode?)
Looks like an important feature to me, why only have it available in one application?

Camera just set brightness to 100%, so you get better outdoor visibility if you set brightess to 100%.
Sorry, I don't follow you?
My brightness is set to 100% but when I select Outdoor visibility the brightness is increased further, maybe 110%?
Maybe 140, is a big difference, but is oversaturated. I believe supercurio can do this when he wil release display expert for our devices.

I want to record some lectures but don't want to disturb the people behind me. I also want to record a lecture (powerpoint) in a dark room where any brightness at all is a bad thing.
Anybody know of a way to turn down/off screen brightness during video record? Even if it wasn't distracting to others in class, what an utter waste of battery to have it 100% brightness while recording...
uh huh screen off to record "lectures" lmao the only thing i can think of would b one of the spy cam apps
There's an app that fakes a dead phone by turning the screen off, I guess you could try that
Very interesting. Spy cam / dead phone apps. I'll have a peek.
I remember for the Evo 3D (Sense 3) there was an option in the camera settings where the user could uncheck "force max brightness" -- this would cause the phone to respect the system brightness (which could be set lower). Maybe the option is just hidden in Sense 4.
I would like to have this option too. Hope some one comes up with a mod....
A mod would be useful, but a quick and easy workaround would be to cover the phone with a piece of paper/notebook.
