Hi,
I am a motorola milestone user, looking for a new device.
My eye has fallen on the galaxy s II.
I love miui roms, will the galaxy s II get this rom also in the near future.
Also I have been reading that the galaxy s II has some issues with some games. As an avid gamer games are very important to me.
Will these games issues be resolved by the game developers, or is the cpu the big fault here.

Why, why, why was this posted in dev?
No idea about MIUI. I would imagine that given how big this phone will be, game devs will accommodate it pretty quickly so as not to lose sales.

I've been following this thread for a bit now and looks like the dev has been going through some builds(albeit, alpha) pretty quickly.

It looks to be an attempt to help/take some pressure of teamhacksung CM9 endeavor. Op has got a bunch of stuff fixed(mic, camera still broken). It looks like Codeworkx has even been giving OP some direction too.
I'm sure a lot of you have been following this development too, but when it all gets worked out, what does/can it mean for us I777 owners?
Edit: I know there are a bunch of ICS anticipation threads already(I'm not trying to add to clutter) but I did debate putting this in Q&A
That sounds promising. It's a good thing that they're close to a new kernel. Would love to test it out, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work to hellraise it. I really don't take pics, and I could easily just text people if need be.
You know it works if you flash it like they say to right? No need to hellraise. The soft keys are a little wonky, but its fun to get a good feel of aosp ics.

I would run ICS without calls and just tell everyone the mic is broken, too.
Exciting

I was wondering if anybody was working on AOSP ICS for the S2. I just came from the Captivate and of course, right when I decided to upgrade they released AOSP ICS for it. Luckily I still have my Captivate so I can play with it.

Same here. I'm running ICS Build 10 from teamhacksung on my captivate and its amazing how nicely it performs.

Well its simply a matter of duration. The captivate has been out for over a year and a half. The dev community there has had all that time to work through the various leaks, numerous builds(whether samsung or att approved). Basically, a lot of the problems that are being run into with the SGS II have been solved months ago for other devices(captivate, vibrant). In short, they've been at it a lot longer. Keep in mind the GS II has been out just shy of 3 months and look what the devs have already done...
3 months from now, there will be a whole new slew of Roms(ICS or not)

Yea, i came from a TMO Vibrant and ICS Passion runs like a freaking dream. Since the GS2 is such a popular device, I thought ICS was very far along till I got it myself and checked the dev forum... pity that the forgotten Vibrant has a fully working ICS and GS2 doesnt yet. Anyway im still happy with it, but ICS is the peice of the puzzle missing for me (ASOP, not that Touchwiz crap BTW)

the thing is, is that we would need a kernel. Entropy won't hack-job a kernel for this kind of a build im sure.

Exactly. And Entropy has expressed it several times...he won't do any hack jobs.
Was reading through that thread ...some scary development there. Seems unstable in all aspects. Just my two cents.

I disagree. The gs2 has been out for 8mo. The issue we have is that no devices use our chipset really - its rare so to speak. The original gs series has a port basically because of the nexus s - same hardware to an extent.

All true
Does anyone want to work on an ICS port of the AT&T SGS II? The thread there is only for the international version so it may not work on ours.
people already are. despite possible donations, this type of thing looks good on resumes, so being first is good. it will come. that's all probably in the other ics threads.

I'm speaking of the ATT variant(I777) which came out 10/2. International variant, yes, has been out a while longer, but there are some differences in each. Yes, they share the same chipset but that hasn't stopped the Dev's in the I9100 forums from putting out solid roms. Otherwise, why would we need Hellraiser if they are that "similar".
You disagree that its just a matter of time? If so, you don't think that in another 3 months we'll have made major progress related to Roms(whether ICS or not), kernels, etc?
Edit: Just came across this new thread started by codeworkx this am:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410400
Looks promising
When is the darkys rom coming out on the ace. Its out on the galaxy s.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
The Galaxy Ace is a middle-range device with fewer developers. The Galaxy S is a high-end device, is quite old and a load of devs.
Don't get your hopes up.
Never. Why would he bother with our device? So what if it has a SGSI release. Its irrelevant.

cant compare galaxy S with Galaxy Ace its like comparing which is harder ice or water lol
I know it hasn't been a while since the Galaxy s III release but I would like to know if it can be done. There is a cool feature such as ''picture in picture''.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT0gO_wNOhA
after 1:00 minute mark you can see how it works. Its kinda cool and needed in my opinion.
once the source codes are released, is it possible for our precious DEVs to port it to our phones or because of hardware differences its impossible?

Actually, it hasn't been released yet at all. Launch date is May 29 2012 in Europe. By my calendar, that's still 20 days away. So no one can answer this question if it's possible or not.

Jelly Bean updates by Samsung for SGSII, SGSIII, Note and Note II
Thoughts?
Copied from http://www.sammobile.com/2012/08/06/jelly-bean-updates-by-samsung-for-sgsii-sgsiii-note-and-note-ii/
This weekend we tweeted about Android 4.1 updates for the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II. Let us explain what Samsung will do and how far they are at the moment.
Galaxy S III The test firmwares for the Galaxy S III are passed and they are working on a public version of the first Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III. The wait is on the public version and the agreement of Google.
Galaxy S II Samsung is still testing Android 4.1 for the Galaxy S II. The first tests are looking fine. Because the Galaxy S II is still selling very well and Samsung will update the Galaxy S II to Android 4.1. If Samsung decides at the last moment not to update the Galaxy S II, all Galaxy S II owners will get a value pack update. But so far there is no reason not to update the Galaxy S II to Android 4.1.
Galaxy Note. For the Galaxy Note it is the same story as for the Galaxy S II. Tests are fine but there is still no official words by Samsung.
Galaxy Note II. The Samsung Galaxy Note II would be showed at IFA 2012. The test software is currently based on Android 4.0. Our insider isn’t sure if Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Note II with Android 4.0 or Android 4.1. If Samsung decides to use Android 4.0 at launch, an update to the Galaxy Note will be available a couple of months after.
couldnt care less what Samsung does as far as 4.1; our dev's are just about there with far superior products right now, so waiting to see what Samsung does is a non issue for the XDA power users...

I love how everyone thinks that it doesn't matter to have an official Rom because it does. An official JB Rom means better performance and kernels.

have you installed/tried any of the JB roms that our dev's have released?
performance is outstanding; just little quirks, like camcorder and Youtube, but otherwise, they BLOW AWAY any of the Samsung roms..
Yes but things like the video glitches are because they lack the drivers from Samsung. The devs do great work of course but it's not like Samsung contributes nothing of use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737889
And not everyone loves roms build off aosp pulled together from other phones releases. I've tried the jellybean roms thus far and they are nice but would be better if they were 100% working. I use camera and YouTube daily. (Boring job) So an official release is better than an early half working rom to me. Some people like the stock look and feel. I myself and happy to hear we will get jellybean love.

For those that find additional functionality out of the S Pen, this would be a bummer. Touchwiz Framework is currently the only way to get the best S Pen apps working on android: S Note, S Memo, the screenshot editor, and the best widgets on android.
The custom work from our devs is superior, but only in different areas. FJmod performs as well as CM9 and CM10 does in most situations, and there are niche areas where they each have issues or strengths (feature support and 3d is inconsistent on CM9, something I hope improves, and functionality and freedom is a bit more nuanced in the stock based ROMs).

agreed; when all that happens, it will make a great phone even better...But, with Samsungs track record as far as releasing software updates on a timely basis, we shouldn't hold out breath for them to release any official JB stuff anytime soon..

Most people want JB for project butter which we probably won't ever have untill Samsung releases JB for it.
So yeah its quite important.
