I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced excessive battery drain from this ROM?
In about 2 hours I dropped a good 30% from a 100% charge with very little use. When looking at my battery usage statistics I of course saw the screen taking the most which is normal, but the second was Maps?
I did have my location services on, does the htcsense.com deal burn through battery life because it's updating the location constantly?
That's the only thing I could think of.
After turning off gps and htcsense sync I've lost maybe 7% over the course of 8 hours?
me too, my battery life is Horrible i was down 30 percent within an hour, I do have htc sense hub on maybe i will turn it off, otherwise i need to look for other options
12h 9m and I am at 17% Bamf Remix 1.6.3
I would say that is pretty good especially since about 3 hours I was in a horrible signal area bouncing form 1x-4G.
To answer your inquiry yes anything that needs to constantly update your location whether it is through Dedicated GPS, or triangulation will use more battery. Two known culprits for this device and battery life are HTCsense.com account, and even more IMO is Facebook for HTC sense. Sometimes it seems to get stuck while syncing Facebook contacts.
What I do is add my account let it sync everything and then turn off contacts sync. I ended up turning it off completely and just turning it on once in a while because I don't use any social widgets so I check Facebook through browser.
1.6.2 ran 4.4.6 kernel and I would say that it more efficient on battery then 1.6.3 which runs 4.4.7 kernel. Each device has it's own personality though.
not a big fan of 1.6.3. just doesnt seem to run smooth and sync right.
I think I was better off on 1.6.1 too.
Not sure what I have going on or if its related, but I put my phone on the charger overnight (8 hrs or so) and it's 100% when i wake up. Within 3 minutes of taking it off the charger it drops down to 94%. If I put it back on the charger, it will charge for about 10 minutes till 100% and then the same thing happens.
Running 1.6.3/4.4.7
Any thoughts?

This has been discussed a billion times yes. Check the common battery calibration threads.. this is very normal
I am running 1.6.3 coming from previous BAMF roms.
I had lots of reboot issues with the new radio (.7 CDMA and .6 LTE fixed that) but battery life is ok. I am only on 3G in my area.
Full day of normal use at work and i am still over 50% before bed.

Had similar issues where battery would drop to 95% right after a full charge. Charged to 100%, did battery stat reset and then rebooted. Now battery is acting normal.

I find that my Touchpad seems to lose quite a bit of battery while it's sleeping overnight, when compared to something like my Nook Color running CM7 n173. The Touchpad will lose 4-6% sleeping over 10 hours, and the Nook will be hard pressed to lose 2.
Is there something wrong with my battery, or a setting I should be changing (wifi and backup are off)? Or is this normal for Touchpad deep sleep?
are you saying you have wifi and backup off or asking if you should turn them off?
mine probably looses that much in that period of time with everything on and idling...
Yeah, they're both off when I leave it overnight.
Well my touchpad has been off my touchstone since 7 this morning, now 15:00. I have checked twitter, facebook and ebay about 4-5 times since then and my battery is on 100% . Thats with 3 programs running and WiFi on.
I can't give you on overnight figure as it sits in my touchstone
Does it really matter if you lose 4 to 6% in 10h overnight? As long as it doesn't drain at a stupid rate with wifi etc turned off and whilst doing nothing, surely there's nothing to get concerned about. Frankly, I have no idea how much battery mine loses sleeping, or doing anything else for that matter - I just use it, when the battery needs feeding I plug it in - drama over

why wouldn't you just turn it off then... or was this just an experiment to see what kind of battery life you're getting
With backup off and wifi on, OCed to 1.7ghz, my battery stays at 100% if I leave it off charge all night, around 7-8 hours.
Some moderate use throughout the day, and watching some YouTube videos before bed, wifi on and brightness up, mine easily lasts 2 days before needing a charge.
did a test... with backup and wifi on with 3 email accounts being pushed... unplugged and fully charged at 3pm... 9am this morning i'm at 75%... that's with some light usage as well... not bad for 18 hours
i'm over clocked at 1.7 with warthog kernal and have all the suggested patches installed to speed up performance...

Hmm...well, this is the second time that this has happened in the 2.5 weeks that I've owned this phone. I'm currently running unNamed ROM 1.2.0 and noticed that my battery is draining quicker than usual (8%-10% drain per hour on IDLE).
Usually, my battery drain is between 1% - 2% per hour on unNamed. What I've noticed in both the instances where my battery drains rapidly is that I end up seeing 'Core Apps' (white envelope with android icon in the middle) under the Battery Usage. From what I can recall about this icon, it's the icon for the launcher. CPUSpy shows my phone at 78% deep sleep (the phone's usually around 93% - 95% deep sleep when in idle).
The first time this happened, I was away from home on business for 1 night and ended up having to power my phone off when it got down to 11%. Got home later that day and recharged my battery while the phone was off and after the phone was 100% charged, it lasted 38 hours with 7% left before I powered off and recharged. Again, the battery with light usage lasted 30 hours with 30% left.
Today, after charging (while off - seems to charge better this way) I was surprised to see that my battery was draining at ~10% per hour and I saw that 'Core Apps' was listed under Battery Usage again.
Fortunately, I am not away on business this time (yeah, my spare charger is on the way) so I can recharge teh phone at home. Is the only way to "reset" the phone's battery usage history by pulling the battery or charging the phone?
Hopefully, one of the devs can answer or provide a fix/workaround for the 'Core Apps' drain? (BTW, I leave my WiFi on all the time and my phone still lasts anywhere between 28 hours to 40 hours...just wondering why I have these sporadic glitches when the battery doesn't seem to last long.)
From my experience... this will be very hard to fix. Usually appear ramdomly, and disappear randomly.

Yeah...the 1st time it happened, I was wondering "WTF is 'Core Apps'?"
Now that I've seen this the 2nd time, I'm stumped by it since you're right...it doesn't happen often and doesn't seem to be reproducible by any consistent method.
Hard to do a battery pull with this Neo Hybrid case (case is a PITA to remove) and I don't have my 2ndary charger yet...
Rebooting the phone does nothing since the battery history remains and even powering off for an hour and then powering the phone back on still doesn't clear out the battery history so the drain continues!
Oh well...it is what it is then I guess...I was hoping that someone smarter than I could find a way to cure this. (BetterBatteryStats doesn't show this as a wakelock (partial or full)...CPUSpy just that my deep sleep state is in the mid to upper 70% which isn't the norm.
Oh well, hopefully, this doesn't happen too often.

But a few have reported their phone doesn't behave right in reporting battery percentages after wiping battery stats.
Doesn't mean you can't. But no one has proven it helps.

I haven't had any issues that can't be directly linked to something else (like random reboots).
If all you want to do is reset your battery useage screen to zero it definitely does that. The point isn't to help anything, just to reset the screen to zero without having to wait for the phone to charge all the way.
In that case not a bad idea if you see it show up. If it's as bad of a battery drainer as it seems and still running, it should show up again pretty quick after you clear battery stats.
It'd be useful in reading the logs to know that at a certain time it was for sure running.

Dunno, it's just odd...recharged my phone last night and now I'm back to 1%-2% battery drain on idle and the phone's going back into deep sleep at 93% and I haven't touched any of my settings. I just let the phone dip to 19% and powered off and put it on the charger for ~4 hours (I know, I could've pulled it sooner since it wasn't at 0% but honestly, I forgot.)
It's just the weirdest thing...whenever Core Apps appears as the envelope w/Android icon it seems to be persistent and stays in the battery usage. However, there have been times when the Core Apps appears as teh same icon as 'Contacts' and will disappear on it's own after a while. <-- This seems to be okay as the battery drain remains minimal.
I'll have to check out Entropy's battery drain thread later to see if I can gain any insights. (Haven't ever flashed any of Entropy's kernels as standalones -- I've just been flashing unNamed ROM so I know the kernels are stable builds and not the experimentals.)
Hi XDA,
Ive been getting alotta help from you, great developers, and had this question
that dont think has been solved yet. (I searched for 2 days)
So my current situation is;
Im running the latest energy rom (sense 3.0) with stock kernel, (as it was recommended on the post).
After flashing custom roms, beats audio and etc via ADB, i believe my
battery stat display is not normal.
It would take at least 90~120minutes to reach 100% from 99%.
And sometimes even if I have the charger hooked up to the phone
it would still drop to 99% from 100.
I have two batteries (Stock and Anker) and tested them both.
It looks like no matter how long i charge it, as long as i have 100% or 99%
on the battery, it takes around 12minutes and 13seconds screen-on time to drain 10% of the battery. Which it was way less than i expected.
but after dropping around 68~63%, the battery seems to last longer on each
percent points.
On top of that, I think my phone is not charging anymore when I turn to power off. I can feel the phones gone cold and not charging, but the orange light is always on and never turns green for some reason.
So my question is:
IS THERE ANY SOLUTION (LIKE BATTERY CALIBRATION THAT ACTUALLY WORKS?) TO THIS? IVE READ SO MANY THREADS ABOUT THIS BUT NOTHING IS GIVING ANYBODY A CLEAR ANSWER.
I have the same problem as you. I'm on Sense 3.5 RC1.6. Infact I just restarted my amaze in hboot mode and then back into normal. My battery went from 10% to 60%. Then after like 15 minutes of usage it went back down to 10%. Also my battery drains to almost dead at about ~3 hours of screen time with moderate-heavy usage.
have you guys fully charged it ? gone into advanced in Clockworkmod and deleted battery stats?
i havent hacked my amaze but when i had my g2x after every flash i would charge teh battery to 100% then wipe battery stats x2 and then let the battery drain to 0 percent. then it should give you accurate readings
I did that but I used Battery Calibrator app from market. 2 times and discharge to 100%. Also how long should the battery last on average?
I'm runnign stock, it lasts me a day, but depends on usage. I text alot, some calls, twitter facebook, a lot of music, some FML, and some camera lasts me all day, (i charge in the morning so it lasts me a full 24 hour cycle)
Hmm seems as if my battery drains pretty fast. I timed it with medium-low brightness just leaving the screen on, with 3g and music. I get 1% per 3 minutes on. No auto-sync or background data either.
as most of people usually say i should fully drain my battery and charge til 100%,
im doing that right now.
My phone got shut off during my jelly defense stage 13 session
and plugged the phone but it didnt turn on for like 10 minutes.
so i kinda freaked out that the clockworkmod recovery that i have right now
does not support charging when the phone is not awake, but i guess the charging is really slow since i have finally turned on my phone.
im just gonna let it sit on my side table charging, and ill prolly fall asleep..
cuz im definitely not in the mood to watch LeBron James' face tonight.
I will let you guys know.
Thanks.

i hear you.
but after searching several threads about HTC AMAZE's bad battery life,
im slowly being convinced that 3 hours of screen time doesnt sound really that
bad. lol
mine just died around 2 hrs 45 min screen time while the phone was up without a charge for 14 hours. well i guess if i start using the phone nonstop after a full charge, then maybe ill get 3 hours or more.... but still...its only 3 hours...

Once it`s charged make sure you flash 5.5.0.4 recovery. Using the toolkit makes that easy.

thanks. will do right away.
ive overheard from someone that 5.5.0.4 is causing bootloops when flashing
other roms, but did you have any problem with this?
Before flashing CM9 to my mopho I had only used the stock rom, on Gingerbread my battery would last for 1.5 or 2 days, but since i updated to ICS it dies whitin 10~ hours of idle...
it usually goes from 100 to 70% overnight (6 hours). Recently I purchased Juice Defender Ultimate hoping it would help fix this issue, well... it did help but id didnt solve it, went from 30% overnight battery drain to 15-20% with airplane mode enabled in JDUltimate.. wich is ALOT from what i've read most users are getting (1-2% overnight, am i right?).
I've wiped my battery stats over and over (even tried the market app method) and nothing has changed.
I installed BetterBatteryStats and Watchdog from market, and both of them and the android battery stats show that "suspend" or phone idle are the cause of my battery dying so fast.
If anyone experienced anything similar and knows a way to fix this I would really appreciate it!!
Ive never seen my Photon go overnight with only a literally 1-2 percentage loss.. Not on stock, Cybiks CM7, or on CM9. but it usually only drains maybe 10 or 15 percent on higher end so nothing major. Talking ~8 hours off charger idle with random text or two and led going nuts blinking all night with data/wifi/bluetooth etc off but NOT in airplane mode. Are you on latest CM9 build? My bet is you have a random app screwing with phone keeping it from entering sleep mode or whatever its called. Check the "Awake" time under the battery settings to see if the awake time is allot higher than the "Screen off".
I have the same problem, no matter what kernel, no matter what cm9 build, still draining too much in idle. I know, others don't have such draining. But I give up and I am back on cm7, where everything seems fine.
I noticed that this happens to me as well. Previously, I fixed this by re-calibrating the battery. Now I was suspecting skype, but it is not causing this. I have noticed that having both GPRS/3G enabled and Wi-Fi drains power very quickly (about 4 times faster than having only one of those switched on). I'm using Photon in Europe in GSM network, so not sure is it the same with CDMA.

during night, "Awake" seems to be up about 50-60% of the time, a lot more than "screen on"
I´ve read that setting your phone to "never turn screen off" shuts down suspend process and battery actually lasts longer, has anybody tried this??

try wiping battery stats in recovery with a full charge
I have an Atrix 4G running Neutrino 2.9 EE, with a new battery I bought only a few weeks ago because I thought my old battery was dying. But I'm having the same problem with this one. I can't get it to charge past 70% or so, and the charge seems to drain very quickly, about 1% every 15-20 minutes. I checked the battery usage, and Phone Idle is taking up around 60-70%. I've got wifi off, the screen turns off after one minute, and the brightness on half. I'm really at a loss as to what's causing this, so any help would be great.

Try to use all battery till your phone turn off, when charging again go to recovery and clean battery stats, rebbot and charge to full battery, see if your bar go to %100, i install battery widget and have an option for motorola phones, enable that option, that help me a lot,
Good luck!!!:fingers-crossed:

Battery drain issues, it seems, are as varied as "My car is making a noise that goes like this: ____"
Do you have the battery calibration app off the market? A full charge is 4200 mV (or really close to that value), regardless of what percentage your phone is displaying.
If your phone is getting up above 4100 mV, then the battery is fine. You can trick the phone back into displaying a more accurate percentage for a while, but it's not permanent:
- Charge the phone as high as it will go
- Shut the thing off and pull the battery
- Plug in the phone, wait for the question-mark icon to appear
- Re-insert the battery, let it sit for a few minutes (10? 20? no magical number here)
- Turn the phone back on. Percentage should be a lot closer to 100%.
If you're getting a decent charge but the battery is genuinely draining quickly, well... all I can offer is my experience from this summer. My major symptoms were:
- Losing an entire charge in the course of 8-9 hours, but ONLY when wifi/mobile data were turned on
- *Extreme* phone lag when wifi/mobile data turned on. Every single app would force close. Not fun at all.
- Checked what's using the battery, and "Contacts" was responsible for ~5% of the charge.
After six weeks of debugging hell, wiping, reflashing stock, etc I found out my contacts were nonstop-syncing (and duplicating, and duplicating, like rabbit offspring) on one particular email account. Killed the email account, got a functional phone back. Battery life returned to normal. All that to say, one misbehaving app (even a stock misbehaving app) can trash the phone's performance.
If you can stand it, try returning to something completely stock and not restoring any of your apps/data for a few days.
