When ever I try gingerbreak or super one click I can never get it to work. Superone lick always stops when it is actually running pshneuter exploit and I tried using 1.6.5 super one click and 1.9.1 using both types of exploits gingerbreak and nothing is working for me. Any advice, for the moto atrx 4G?

dont use superone click. Gingerbreak only works with EXT-SD card. and it will wipe all data on your internal SD card. make sure to have debugging enabled.

The data erase isn't necessarily true. It's more of a hit or miss thing. I've rooted/ ginger broke {lol} 3 times now and all data remained in tact. BUT I do hear of it sometimes doing so, so better to be safe than sorry!
Are you sure you had USB development on? Was your connection turned to "Usb connection" VS motorola portal? If not, I have no idea.
And yea, don't use superone click. Just use the Gingerbreak EXE in the Gingerbreak thread and you'll be good to go. Don't forget to run Gladenable!
You could try GladRoot, my prefered method of rooting the Atrix.. http://goo.gl/qP63I
im new to all this after moving from the iphone after nearly 4 years jailbroke every one myself.
i dont know anything about androids but im glad i made the switch to the atrix.... i have within the last hour rooted my phone using the gingerbreak1.2.apk direct from ext mc using the phone worked first time pretty easy
im on orange uk
just dont know whats next really gonna have to read a little about custom roms

It's this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.andirc.erisrooter&feature=search_result
More info about it here, including some instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228
though, basically the instructions are to install the app, run it, shut down and restart the phone - the step that adds custom Recovery to the phone - then restart to Recovery to either flash a custom ROM or to flash a rootme.zip file to add the super user app to the phone. Restart the phone and uninstall the app (if you flashed rootme.zip), and then you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
That method is only for 2.1, what about 1.5 users?

Why do you still have 1.5 on the phone? Have you constantly refused every OTA upgrade prompt?
Anyway, this procedure is not 1-touch, but it works: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html
Rather than PlainJane, as recommended in that post, I'd try xtrSENSE instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467

The phone was flashed to Cricket when it was new and we were concerned that the update would break phone so it has been refused. I just wiped phone and upgraded to 2.1, I am about to root and attempt to put back on Cricket. Thanks for the quick response.
Z4Root works also.

I have a Mac, and used Reflash UnrEVOked v3 and it was super easy.
All I did was plug in my phone and it did the rest, after that you just have to flash which rom you want.
If you don't have a mac, find someone with one or perhaps theres a windows version of Reflash.
(sorry if you meant market app, 1 click eris root is a good market root app... I think..?)
I used 1-Click, easy and fast with NO problems.
I rooted my razr using doomlords method and now i cant re-root it. Everything was fine until my gmail wasnt able to reply to messages so i unrooted and now it works again. So when i tried to re-root it, it didnt complete. I originally did i from another computer and that computer broke down on me. The cpu i have now doesnt have internet access. Could that be the reason why it wont root? Do i have to do a system reset? I dont get what im doing wrong. Please help

I think it has something to do with the motorola USB drivers you need to install.
you can check it also with ADB. I think you computer doesn't see your phone.
I had the the same problem when trying to re-root my razr. I went through the batch file lineby line typing it in manually. Here is what I found. It was not installing superuser the 2nd time around. It looked like I was rooted as I could use astro to access the / folder. I installed superuser and it started working.
Give this a try. Hope it helps.
ok so i tried to root my phone again with my work cpu and it still wont root. it reads cannot find the specified file. when i plug the phone to the computer it reads the device because it says all drivers are installed and ready to use. i also installed super user again and still the same thing. my phone still acts like its rooted but it really is not. i un-rooted using ginger un-root. now what? im thinking about just backing up my fone again, doing a reset and then root and then put everything back the way it was. but i dont wanna get rid of my free wifi tether. thanks for you suggestions so far, any other ideas?....

Hello All,
If this has been covered before I apologize I havent been able to find the solution to my problem atm.
What I would like to do is ultimately downgrade my phone to Hboot 1.4 so that I can install a Custom Rom for the first time. However according to my research to do that you will need to wipe your phone in essence losing all my data so I would like to back it up first before I try that which I havent been able to figure out how to do that yet.
My phone build is Hboot 1.5 2.17.651.5
Based on what I have read many guide suggest that you will have to use the HTCdev Unlock to actually be able to root the phone but if my understand of what I am reading is correct you have to wipe the phone again which doesnt help me.
Ive tried so many different methods to be able to do temp-root but none of them seem to work for me so I would like a suggestion or some advice on what I can try so I can backup my phone before I try the downgrade.
Thanks guys

AFAIK, there is no way since both methods (downgrade and HTC unlock) cause you to wipe. I hope someone has a good answer (and I wish I had known it before I lost all my stuff downgrading ).
What all are you trying to backup? Your apps you can reinstall, your phone number's can be exported to your sd without root via your people app, videos and pics are stored on your sd so you can just insert your sd into your laptop/pc and back it up. Your texts are a different story, but I'm sure you will receive more texts.

I'm mostly trying to back up app data settings game saves etc. Sorry I didn't mention that, I'm also just trying to see how that works since I'm still learning about all of this. If that is something I shouldn't really worry about should I just go ahead with the downgrade?

Use Tacoroot to gain temp root on 2.17. This is HIGHLY unstable, do not touch the notification/status bar at all when it boots. just get in, get your backups, and get out.

Hey Unknown thanks for the reply im a fan of your work I have actually tried that method or one similar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441100) and have been unsuccessful so far (I also made a post in that thread). I'm really close to giving up and just doing the downgrade as I can not figure out how to make this work.

Highly unstable is an understatement . When I followed your downgrade process, my phone started a constant bootloop after using tacoroot. Luckily, it did not have to boot, but I still lost my data (which ended up being no big deal).
EDIT: Sounds critical of Unknownforce, but did not mean to. He is the reason I have root and will forever be in my signature.

Unfortunately it's the only known root method to work with 2.17. I didn't develop it, it was jcase, but it's better than nothing.
it is rare that I ever ask for help around these parts. But I just recently got my droid x2 back and wanted to try cm10 alpha 3. The problem is it doesn't seem to want to root. I have SBF'd numerous times and tried both Motorola one click root tool and Pete's Motorola root tool (which actually has worked every time when I used the DX2 as my daily driver with no problems). No matter how many times I run the programs, it seems to stay stock, unrooted gingerbread. Now remember, I have been around these forums for a long time and know what I'm doing. The only difference is that the phone has no number attached to it. Meaning its a WiFi only device. I have tried to bypass the activation which was successful. But I have not been able to root it and install the bootstrap recovery. It just goes through the process and stays the same. I have USB debugging on and checked the unknown sources box. It's been a while since I've done this so I may be missing something. All these tools are the same ones that I've always used with no problems. The only difference is that its a WiFi only device now. So is there any reason why the normal process wouldn't work now?

Yep, I never had this phone on 2.3.5. And these same tools always worked in the past. But I will try this other method.
you check windows device manager, for missing drivers?
Sent from my XT862 using xda premium
Just to double check, after an SBF, you get the activation screen. To bypass that, you have to turn off the phone, hold volume down and power then select "boot android (no bp)"? Thats what I'm doing and I'm just wondering if thats what is causing the phone to not be able to root. Thats the only difference there is from when I had this phone as a daily driver.

I'll double check the next time I do it. But I have attempted this on two different computers. Both of which I have successfully rooted on in the past.
Finally got it rooted and cm flashed on it. Don't know how. Just kept trying until it took. Lol
