[Q] To advanced CM6-latest users with keyboard-layout other than qwerty - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi there,
how did you change your keyboard layout? As there are so much methods to change it, how did you do it? I am wondering if my method is correct:
1) install CM6-latest (miniCM version) with all hotfixes
- Use the files from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982341
2) install CM7-ActivateSEKeyboard.zip
3) CM7-KeyboardUpdate.zip
4) german_underscore.zip
5) qwertz.zip
6) blacktheme.zip
7) wipe cache
8) reboot
9) set language again to german everywhere where it is possible
10) reboot second time
It seems everything works but:
- under certain circumstances sym menu freezes
- using andoid onscreen keyboard the hardware-keyboard is still qwerty
Either it's a bug to be fixed or I was doing something wrong. So I ask you:
- Did you recognize that, too and live with that?
- Or did you change your keyboard layout in another way and that works perfect and may you so helpful to tell me and others having my problem how!?
Thanks, guys.

If you want a QWERTZ keyboard, just change with root explorer's editor in system/usr/keyboard-config/keyprint.xml
THIS:
<script-name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-en"/>
TO
<script-name="latin" keylayout="qwertz"/>
Then save and reboot.
Temes

so if i get this right for azerty (got a dutch phone) i do
<script-name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-en"/>
TO
<script-name="latin" keylayout="azery"/>
???
will help allot

[SOLVED] CyanogenMod6-v3.1: No Home/Back/Menu

Hello,
I have a Mini Pro and succesfully installed CyanogenMod6-v3.1.
Then I put qwerty.kl form german.zip via RootExplorer to /system/usr/keylayout.
Since then I do not have these three buttons: menu, home, back, on/off.
They are completly dead.
So I thought to replace qwerty.kl with the original one found in update.zip.
But this does not work either...
Do you have an Idea?
Thank you
Tobias
(I have less than 10 posts, so I have to post here, sorry)
EDIT: I did a re-flash via xrecovery and now it works again.
But how can I change to the german keyboard layout?
Keyboard
Sorry that i write here, but i am not able to write in the right discussion
the german keyboard works so far fine, but the number "3" is not on the right place.
In the german keyboard the three is over the y and not over the z ( by pressing the green quader.
the problem is in this file qwerty.kcm in the last line y3 yy it must changed to z 3 zz i think
The second :
the symbol button just aktivate the numbers over the character and not the symbols or Ä,Ü,Ö.
thanks for your powerful work
I do not see that these problems are related.
It would be better to start a new thread for you...
How can I install the german keyboard layout?
Thank you
go to the 1st page of the cyanogen mod download german keyboard and instal it with recovery tool
the number 3 is above the y and not above the z. This bug will be fixed later
Thank you.
I mark this as solved as the bug with number 3 is already known.
open qwerty.kl with root explorer (with write permissions) and a text editor. You will be able to change evry single key.
bye

As for many of you having troubles with "shift" key not working. Touch the text input window and hold your finger on it until a menu appears, chose input methods, choose android keyboard and NOT the HTC one I don't know why but "shift" key will work again!
As I got a lot of requests regarding different hardware keyboards I'll like to start a thread in order I can build you guys custom keyboard layouts for your froyo or gigglebread roms. My goal is it to have all languages sooner or later updated and organized in this thread.
I need to the following from you guys so we can make the hardware keyboard work.
your qwerty.kcm.bin and your qwerty.kl from your old Sony Ericsson Firmware (/system/usr/) i need the entire folder with keyboard-config, keyboard-chars etc..
List your buttons and which button should have which character on blue/sym button and if you need capital letters as well which key should appear on blue/sym and shift button press
List you special signs, like underscore, plus, minus, etc .. even if you need a key frequently which is not on the default keyboard layout from sony we can still place it on a different button suitable for you
and last but not least any special requests, like numbers or so in the wrong place.
If you want to have an exact copy of your hardware keyboard as it is on your device (like the blue letters and number) please post a picture
As for many of you having troubles with "shift" key not working. Touch the text input window and hold you finger on it until a menu appears, choose android keyboard and NOT the HTC one I don't know why but "shift" key will work again!
I'll place all the keyboards in the second post for you once they are finished.

hi, i just want the original x10 mini pro Portuguese From Portugal(PT-PT) thanks
well as i do not speak pourtuguese do you have the original qwety.kcm.bin or something like that? or button mapping? thanks! (its in the list in 1 thread what i need)
you know what would be best just post a picture of your hardware keyboard. and i'll make the files for you
slade 87.
Good stuff man.
its guys like you who makes XDA what it is.
keep up the good work
Good thread, . I have one suggestion thought, I suggest you move all the keyboard layout submitted to the first post with thanks to the finder/inventor. That way people will easily find what they need.
yes of course i'll give the credit to the people who found it. Once there is more keyboard i'll start using external links, so we can divide languages from each other and also make it easier to give credit.
how do you get the qwerty.kcm.bin and qwerty.kl files? do u need to use root explorer or what? im new at this, sorry
hey, is it possible to put in german keyboard the old function from the sym/aü button. so if u press this button u will open the window, with smilies and special symbols?

I wonder the same about my Norwegian phone...
When I click the Sym button, it happends the same as on the blue button ...
It should be smileys and stuff there like , :-( , , , :O etc...
Thanks!
slade87 you got permission to post my files from cm topics here
i will delete the links from my post and i will link to this posted i think this is more up to date them mine are
as of now i don't think this is possible but we can map new letters to buttons so for example old german layout was:
sym button + o would make an "ö"
now i did the following blue/sym button + o makes "ö"
but not with touch input but with the hardware keyboard. so the most frequent letters we can reasign to a combo of blue/sym button and work with that.
owain thanks I'll update this thread day by day and slowly merge your existing keyboards into this thread. I will upload new version to mediafire as well and keep your old links if thats ok with you.
the why im asking that is, in connectbot for example i must use > or < but i cant find these symbols on the keyboard, coz these were under the menu witch opend with sym/aö ;>
check first post i got it working with the se menu!

what you preffer?
the qwerty.kcm...? or the picture?
if you preffer the qwerty.kcm... please tell me how to get that for you...(im new in this android scene.. i preffer symbian s60 v5 modding)
i just need the keyboard becouz im my language(Portuguese from portugal) we have "Ç" and we use ´, `, ~ and ^ in some letters like "é"(is) in "Não"(this = no) and in "A" in some cases "à" or "á" and i need the < and > for my smiles :b
please check the first post and follow the instructions of the sonyerricon.zip (first link) you should have all your keys back.
okay with the sonyericsson.zip i got the symbols back on sym/äo but it seems instable with the sms/mms programm of cm6 3.2.1 coz i get forced closes Oo
did you reselect the language?
i don't know if it helps you but use xrecovery and download one of the other posted keyboard layouts, install it and then try it again. after i did this i had no more force closes. but in rare occassions the symbol menu did not work (touch did not respond) but it didnt force close i could still write my text just couldn't select an icon (and could get the menu away with pushing sym button again).
uey, i tried it with the french one, at the beginning no sym/aö symbole table, but than i hold the finger on the input and switch from standartinput to Androidinput, closed and do it again but now back to Standart input and it works. strange things are goin on here ;>
thnx for ur help and work
i am glad it worked!
I updated the link on the first post. this should work now without luzifers work around.

[Q][Self-Solved] Italian Keyboard Layout CyanoComb 1.4

Hi everybody, i've googled around for this problem withoud finding any solution.
How can i edit the files in system/usr/ to make the keyboard like the stock one?
Examples:
if i press the blue button ONCE it should write ONE blue character only. instead it messe everything up and i have to press it several times to get the letters working.
the sym button doesn't work in either way (accented letters if pressed simultaneously with the letter or symbols menu if pressed alone).
etc..
i found this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113863), but it didn't help, and i can't post in that thread to ask for help.
i've seen that italian language file is present in /system/usr/keyboard-config/languages, but how can i make the phone use ita.xml instead of what's using now?
EDIT: i've seen now that i've started the thread in the wrong browser tab, i wonder if a mod may move this to Q&A. i'm sorry
EDIT2: problem solved, i had to change the option in the settings menu. strange that 3 different keyboard input methods were activated, it makes no sense to me.
i'd recommend to stiky a warnig to this fact so no one will be looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist

you can browse an xrecovery file you already have and find the keyprint.xml , or find the keyprint.xml from an other rom you installed in /system/usr/keyboard-config and copy it to the sd card
with root explorer or any file manager that can explore your root
go to /system/usr/keyboard-config delete the existing keyprint.xml and paste the one on sd card
give the right permisions [x] [x] [ ]

but i can´t cause it tells can´t find the file in CWM
i have ".img" files as backup done when i was with 2.1 android from SE.... i need to get the original HK file to test the tip... but i have no idea about how to get this now...
PLEASE HEEEEEEEEEEEELP
you sir, are a dedicated problem solver
i've added my stock rom keyprint.xml for you, hope that helps you
unzip that to sdcard and then just copy it over to the right system folder using root eplorer and setting the right permissions
---
As for the screen borders getting no touch input, the only cm7 version that wasn't the case with was minicm7-v14,5 by slade.
all other versions suffer from it
The symbol menu crashing when scrolling is a common froyo/gingerbread issue and can partly be solved with a workaround
if you go to cm settings > user interface and enable overscrolling and set it to bounce, the symbols menu in h/w keyboard won't freeze anymore. Except that doesn't work on the symbols menu in soft keyboard.
goodluck!
Hello Anderson... in my last post i told what i did that helped me to get the most problems solved in the ROM.... i´ll repost it here:

can you help me? Maybe you may know how...
oh god, i think i did something really bad!!!!!!!!!!!
more questions... i found nothing explaning it in the forum... can somebody help?
I am with GingerDX v5 ROM
1 - when i plug my phone to PC, so PC Companion asks for "choose between charging, connecting and etc..." but there is not the option in the phone screen to do it... what do i have to do to connect???
2 - i had sony android 2.1 and i did a backup using xRecovery so i could install another ROM ... so... after that i formated my sdcard... lost all... but before it i did a backup. So i have inside this backup a folder called xRecovery > backup > 2011-08-02.02.29.25 >
nandroid.md5
cache.img
data.img
system.img
so, my question is: "is there a way i can recover my old android 2.1 with this files??? Or did i lost all...???
and... how can i open this "files" so i can get HK files from old 2.1 i had????
I knoe i have a lot of questions, but i can help too... i think so...
hello guys... i am really ansioous for your help about my last questions.
But for now let me tell what i got.
I Unzipped GingerDX v5 and unzipped pt-br files.... so, i copied these files to Ginger ROM and deleted the original ones. So, i zipped GingerDX again.
So, i wiped all in CWM and reinstalled GingerDx using my zip.
No, it´s all working as before, but the difference is that i have my HK almost ok. Now i have the right keys unless for the SYM key i can´t do it working yet.
Please, do u guys have any ideas?
And need the "popup bar" that appears in android 2.1 when u use the HK... that bar where we can change language and see is the we r using the numbers, or "big letters (?)" or "small letters (? oh... sorry for the bad english)".
I saw something about it in the GingerDX v6 thread but i didn´t understood nothing cause they talk to people who knows about the programing... it´s not a pass to pass... so, can some good soul help me about all these problems????
PLEASE....
I´ll attach here the file i used to replace HK files in GingerDX v5... maybe it can help if somebody can have a look at it about the SYM key and the popup bar...
hope u give me a help guys , i have nobody to ask for....
Can anybody help?
Hello XDA guys... i know you r busy guys, and really intelligent ones... cause waw.... i´d really like to know about programming as u.... but well, everybody has a talent and the mine is animation in computer graphics... if i can help you anyway about it... let me know... but
I need help!!!!!!!
please... guys, i believe my problems can help not just me, but more people here as i could see... and
Hi, I kinda solved the sym key by accident and i can't really tell how i did it but actually I just selected the keyboard i needed in mini rom manager and then i went into settings/keyboard and I unchecked all boxes.
After that I rebooted and I checked the boxes back and it worked. It may sound weird but the sym key works on my phone. I'm using paul's rom V4+hotfix.
Hope this will help you.
hey again,
to get the symbol button to work go to settings > select language and keyboard. in there deselect all keyboards (htc ime lo and android keyboard) but the one called "default input" that will give u the stock rom input with t9 in portrait and a symbol button in landscape.
also, to prevet the symbols menu from crashing, go to settings > cyanogenmod > interface, there set overscrolling to bounce back (any intensity)
waw... weird...

it´s really weird that issue about sym key you did, Chucklechivers. hehehe
But... i am trying to reproduce that "issue" auehaueh.
And Carpe-Dimi...
I just got a little problem, or two:
1 -i use Ginger DX v005 ROM, i installed Mini Rom Manager v.5.2 from Slade but when i try to change the HK layout it tells me it´s not compatible with my device. So i tried to change the build.prop file as people tell here in XDA so MRM should be compatible... ok, that´s working. But when i try to change the language of my HK nothing happens after reboot... no changes. And a lot of features of MRM can´t work properly
2 - when i access the language and keyboard setting to set default input, it doesn´t exist in my ROM... i just have 2 keyboard in the Ginger DX v005: HTC and Android... no other.
About the overscrolling... can i set elastic overscroll and bright? or does it just works only in simple elastic mode?
so... any ideas, guys??? i am still searching for answers... if i thind any... i´ll put it here...
it might be that MRM can't change keyboard cause of the new keyprint.xml file u've used, but I'm not certain about that. and not all functions of MRM work on all phones and roms either.
í've added an apk for the standard input. using root explorer copy that to system/app (on your phone, remember to set r/w) and give it the permissions rw-r--r-- (read+write for owner, just read for the other two)
reboot and u should be able to select default input from the settings menu.
bounce and glow will work as well

My ROM: nAa MiniCM7-2.1.7 + nAa 08 kernel
This is my walkthrough:
1. Pushed
2. Changed permissions
3. Started App
4. Select QWERTY-BR (for spanish keyboard)
5. The app restarted phone
The Result: keyboard not working, any push, any key... now I'm restoring from a backup...
Thanks for this, it worked great. You should maybe include a better "how to".
What I did:
1. Copied the .apk to /system/app and changed permissions to rw-r--r--
2. Rebooted and sat the input method to "default", then opened the app and chose my language. Save, the phone will reboot.
3. Profit.
(latest nAa MiniCM7-2.1.7 + nAa kernel)
So I can confirm it work with "16. qwerty-no-dk"
Really, totally don't work for Azerty.
After select Azerty and reboot, All buttons don't work, even turn off button. I have to remove battery to can restart and do restoration in CWM.
So for this moment, need big debugging.
If somebody want try, do backup before
Hi Madbulls,
I try it and it works fine qwerty-br for me!
Maybe for next version you can try to initialize the one already used... ;-)
PS: I use the one you sent me by PM.
Thanks
New version 2.0.1
change log:
make clean java (there is 2 java from last version )
try make installed apk
add more permisssion
make more time for save and reboot, so app have time to copy file( i hope this will be solve last version bug)
download at first post
this version need to test first, i hope someone to tester it
Hi, hope my report will help you. At this state the app is not working at all (at least for me).
Phone Model: U20i
ROM/kernel: MiniCM7 / nAa
Language tested: latin-on-greek
Worked: No
Bugs:
Phone got very laggy
I used the default app mesenger but whenever I pressed a key to write a message the app closed. no message for FC though, it just hung and closed itself.
menu and power button stopped working. Once the phone locks itself you can't unlock it by pressing menu or power button. You have to slide the keyboard in order to unlock. And of course you have to power it off unplugging the battery.
In the end, I did a restore. I didn't have the time to get a logcat.
New version (v2.0.2)
change log:
edit java command , if you not success change your layout your phone not brick but still use previous layout
Try again if still new layout not work
I was tested with full wipe so is must work now (i hope )
download at first post
Very good work
Works on Xperia X10 Mini Pro with hardware- and onscreen keyboard (qwertz).
Move the apk file over Root Explorer to /system/app and give the following
permissions:
X X O
X O O
X O O
Install the app out of the Root Explorer and open the app ...
Click on what you need (in my case qwertz) and click on
"Save & reboot your phone".
That's all

Try this for ics rom, its stiil beta but its work.
note: its system app, not installed app
Installed app by copying to /system/app, change permissions, install app...
Selected qwerty br for spanish keyboard, reboot, all ok.
Using MiniCM7 2.2.0.
Now the problems: impossible to write "ç" "Ç" characters with hardware keyboard. Instead of "ç" or "Ç" it writes ","
The "," key writes " ' "
All other keys are working fine.
Greetings.

I've installed version from first post (gb), not for ics.
Here is a picture:
For QWERT-BR layout i use mini rom manager, it´s quite simple to use and works.
I would like to know if it´s possible to change the layout for example of the swifkey x, there is a option for QWERTY but not for QWERTY-BR, and there some buttons that does not work.
It will be useful if somebody tell me where this layouts are stored, i believe that is not in the default location SYSTEM/USR/KEYBOARD-CONFG/LAYOUTS.
Best regards
I think I shouldnt do this but in x10 mini general I have a thread too with flashable keyboard layouts, azerty, qwertz and latin-on-greek proven testing.i just post this here for the people having problems.oh,also in order for them to work (layout) you will need sony ericsson default input
Sent from my U20i using XDA
