White Line on Display - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If this is a larger problem than my display and you hadn't noticed it before, I'm sorry, but does anyone else seem to have a white vertical line going down the left side of the screen, about 1/2 a cm from the left? Its pretty much invisible UNTIL you use something with a white/light background. I noticed on the Twitter app, and just want to find out if its just a general "thing" with the display or a fault just on mine, which I'll get replaced if thats the case.

Sounds like a faulty device, mines fine.

Mine had some weird lines over the screen that changed colour depending on what was being displayed, but they disappeared after a couple of days, when did you get the phone?

Yesterday afternoon. I'm going to give it till tomorrow afternoon to see what happens with it (Earliest I can get round to returning it anyway).

vertical white line
I have the same vertical white line, approximately 1.5cm from the left side of
the display. I have had my note for about 2 weeks now. The line is very thin and barely visible and I am not sure if it has been there from the beginning. It is only visible on white display(low brighness) and if you know where to look for it. My note is without the local warranty so all consequences have to be borne by me. Have you found if it is a defect or perhaps this is normal since it is barely visible?

[Q] circular spot on the screen

i just bought my galaxy s2 today , but i noticed a strange circular spot on the lower right side of the screen, it is visible in gray or other dark background and is not affected by the brightness settings. should i get it replaced
Hard to be certain without a photo, but it sounds like a mark from the suction cup used to attach the screen - a few people have reported this, unfortunately. There are photos somewhere in the forum, can't seem to find them at the mo...
If so, yes - return it immediately.
i cant post a pic because im a new member, but thanks for the rep

sai4u - From another thread, suction mark in top right. Look like yours?
yes, i have the exact same problem
Shame. I'd return it, definitely.
Same issue, white circle in the lower right side of the screen, size of a coin, visible only on a grey background, just like the yellow left side issue. Doesn't bother me in real life usage, but still...
il get it replaced immediately, many thanks for the reply

I too have this same problem unfortunately, I asked for replacement but currently phones out of stock here, Waiting for new stock Impatiently.
Was it easy for u to get it replaced ?
my friend got it. hopefully she can get a new one.
Mine is not this prominent though, I dont see it on such dark backgrounds...God knows how many pieces have it, and the fate of replaced piece.
Could be a remnant from production process and oleophobic coating. Glass parts are mostly transported by suction cups and this might leave this "mark" ...........
i also have a light spot on my phone which appears on gray or slightly dark backgrounds. it's on the left side. it does not appear to be the same thing as the one on previous pictures. it's as small as a dot which can be made by a marker.

Maybe you are talking about the white spot in default internet browser. It is located in the left lower corner. It is normal and it's there for hardware acceleration. Check to see if you have dead pixels, if the white spot only appears in default browser than your phone is ok.
mine appears all the time (provided that the background colors are gray and of the same shade). also, the spot is on the top-middle portion (portrait mode) of the phone. example, it reading SMS conversations, background is gray right? i can see the light spot there. i would post a picture but i'm still new to the forum.
Hi.
Mine have that exact circle too =/ .
So, you say it is not burn in ? i was thinking maybe that was because the weather widget sun.
Since im out of warranty i m thinking in open and cleaning it, what do you think ? would be that possible ?

It would be possible for sure, but would be also a big mistake.
It's a hardware issue, not a dust one.
Cheers

[Q] SGS2 screen burn in

The photo below is an image of my phone displaying a light grey image in a dark room. The yellow tinted gradient on the left hand side is very apparent, but that is not what bothers me so much. If you carefully notice the area demarcated inside the red box, you will notice a horizontal band that is of a slightly darker grey. Is this a burn in? I have only had this handset for a couple of days, so I can't see how I'm already being affected by this phenomenon. One can also see how uneven the display is, overall.
Damn I saw your other post, seems like you were the unlucky guy who got the screwed up handset in the batch. Mine had a really faint tint on the left side which has now disappeared
Just go and exchange it. You will be much happier!
haha. ya, seems like I got the lemon of all lemons. Lets hope the replacement is ok.

[Q] Screen fault?

Just noticed on my Lumia that there's a thin fine purple line on the edge of the left side of the screen. I can see more of it the whiter the screen is, can anybody confirm if they have this too or if it's just my device?
Thank you.
I have had two devices and both have shown some purple tint on the left side. My current example more evident than the previous phone.
Only noticable on gray/white backgrounds and not on colored backgrounds really.
It does bother me to some extend. Not enough to replace the phone a second time though (I did not exchange the first one because of this).
Not really like lines though. More like a subtle gradient that goes from far left into the right side.

Its only bothered me since I noticed it to be honest, mine starts at the top left, all the way to the bottom. It sticks out more at the top corner, then goes thinner as it goes down.
It's due to pentile amoled screen. And it's normal behavior.
What he said; it's a PenTile thing.
I have my new Lumia 800 with some strange shady lines after every item on the screen to the very right side of it, with white theme and with medium or less brightness. Should i return it for replacement, or every Lumia 800 has this annoying issue? Switching form an iphone 4 I was prepared for worse screen quality, but not this much... youtu.be/g8t_oRDpY70
I exchanged my phone for a second time even though I said I would not. It just bothered me too much. Took me three phones to get one with a screen that had good uniformity across the screen. Only the line bleeding visible at times but it does not bother me at all really.

That's an AMOLED 'feature'. I remember my Nexus One being like that, and when I set full brightness with light background I can make it out on the Lumia too.

I am sad to hear this mate... Am i expecting too much after my iphone? It is not noticeable with black background, but ie9, office and some other application has a bright background anyway, sot it is annoying there. Of course it is not until you realize this issue exists, but after that, you cannot stop paying attention to that...
It's like line bleed on plasma screens... I feel like its imposible to get af perfect screen today don't matter if its on phones or larger screens...
my last two expensive flatscreens had some minor problems, Plasma was linebleed and so on...

I have to disagree with dk_iceman, iPhone 4/4S doesn't have this fault (don't know about 3GS, didn't own one) but fact of the matter is, this should be a fault, when we had such problems with our TV's, which even happen on LCD TV's, you get a replacement, I don't think such screen problems should be acknowledged as normal. Nokia have said for me to return my phone to them, but I'm checking for more problems, so I can give them a whole list of my expectations, I haven't had one problem with the iPhone 4/4S's screen, that's why I'm willing to pay more for a phone, this phone wasn't cheap too, so I think everybody should get what they paid for, ok software, can be solved, but for poor hardware, should be replaced. Agreed?
My girlfriend's Omnia 7 screen looks cleaner, she's had hers for two years now.

White spots on display

I received my X F5121 two days ago, and as soon as I turned it on, I could notice a white horizontal spot a bit up from the centre of the display. You can notice it more when on a white blank page and with brightness a bit up.
I also found (more on white pages) that pushing the back cover of the phone would affect the screen with distorted colors and looks like (in my opinion) the glass is not properly installed on the device.
Am I the only one with this problems?
Let me know what you think...
This is from diagnostics.

Is it like a white patch whether its a white screen, or a light color like beige background, like something is being pushed against a lcd screen, or a light bleed.
I had something like that, not sure if it was when I purchased the phone, but I only noticed it after a few months of using it, I took it a xperia service center and had the whole screen, including the phones outer frame body changed, not sure if the center was too lazy to change just the screen, but im happy with it now.
You should get sony to sort it out, or if you still have a return period for exchange/refund.

Screen suddenly full of black lines, colorful waves and white shadows?

Last night I had no problems with the display, but when I woke up this morning I could barely see anything on the screen due to it being mostly white (like a blur or shadow), and also full of black vertical lines. I haven't dropped or soaked my phone, so I can't think of any reason why this would happen so all of a sudden. I've taken out the battery once, and it seemed to improve a little bit. When the phone is locked and only the black background and the clock is visible I can see a single white line going along the middle, but when I'm using the homescreen it's covered in thin black lines and occasionly colors that look a little like northern lights (I can't find any better way to describe it). Then the screen will occasionally 'white out' and it's impossible to read anything. I've had the phone since March, and haven't had any problems like this previously.
I'm sure the warranty covers this, but I'm hoping there's a way to fix it without sending it in and being without my phone for several weeks. Any suggestions?

Of coarse you dont want to hear it,But I would warranty it The screens have retention problems but I dont think I have heard of one going that bad.
Try to boot to recovery or download mode and see if its the same and or phone off and charging. If so Its a total issue in device. And not just when OS is booted.
