I wish I could put this question in a more thought provocative way... but the problems very simple and random:
I've been running the latest evil fascination rom on inmuts -50uv kernel for over a week now with spectacular results in every aspect of the rom. (honestly one of the most satisfying rom packages imo) *with outstanding battery life I might add*
The weird: when I first set up the phone, I assigned on of the standard android notification sounds for my text messages. A day or two ago, it changed on its own and when I went back to the settings, the only two options I got were "silent and facebook pop"... (*note: I don't even have Facebook app installed and have not a long time ago.. I just use the browser)
This same problem occurred in my default Clock app as well and so now the only sound option I am able to assign for any of my alarms is "silent' ...irony kills me
Any ideas as to what might be going on? I use custom ringtones but I have never made a custom notification folder on my sdcard so whatever must be clashing/happening might be internal.
Taking a blind guess, but I'm guessing the facebook app created the notification folder on your sdcard where the "facebook pop" resides. And for a different reason you probably have a ".nomedia" file in your system/media folder. Delete that file to regain your original sounds.
Resolved!
Thank you so much, that did do the trick. Both the .nomedia file as well as the facebook sound file that was creeping around in the system/media directory.
It would be nice to know how it decided to revert the settings on its own...
Glad it worked. I had the same issue when upgrading to the latest evil fascination rom using the latest patch.
Don't know why it happened but was an easy fix

Hi,
i pulled the deskclock.apk file from CM5 for N1 zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623496) and installed it from the phone with no issues at all (extracted to pc, moved to phone, then launched from folder). however, i can't seem to change the settings -- i get a force close. same thing happens when i click on the music icon, but i assume its looking for the stock music player instead of TW music. that one doesn't concern me much.
do i need another app to configure? is it possible to manually edit a file?
i am unrooted, if that helps. (just waiting for samsung distribution of froyo this month...).
thanks!
I also get force close..
in case this helps someone else, i found that "Alarm Clock Plus V2" gives all the functionality and looks of the stock deskclock.apk, but actually works well (on the Vibrant) and has more functionality.

My guess is there is a dependency missing. Another app that deskclock uses. Try grabbing the Clock.apk from cm5 and try again.
Try going to market and look for Samsung. The galaxy version of the desk clock is there.

thanks guys. i think i'll stick with alarm clock plusV2 for now though -- does everything i want.
rel500, i downloaded that app before and, although i like it overall, the night mode is way too bright for me. it also doesn't seem to stay on while plugged in, which is a little annoying. thanks for the suggestion though.
The app is dependent upon the stock music apk that is on the CM builds, it is looking for that for the settings to be changed and also to open up the music player portion, you can set the alarm but that is it, unless you go to the hybrid build, which has the needed music player, or if you know what you are doing you can replace it yourself. But be aware that many of the touchwiz features are dependent upon each other. So know what your are doing before you break it.
Did they pull the desk clock from the market not showing up on mine
My Vibrant periodically "loses sight" of media I have downloaded. I have downloaded ringtones off of zedge and podcasts through Dogg Catcher. Periodically (not sure what causes it), the phone cannot find those things. This means that if I have set a custom ringtone, my phone does not ring. I have missed several calls because of this. At first, I thought it was a Zedge issue, but it happens in DoggCatcher as well. I will go into play a downloaded podcast, and I get an error that the file cannot be found. If I reboot, it fixes itself, but it happens later.
I am running Bionix Nextgen, but I know it's not a ROM issue, because it also happened on other ROMs I have used. I think it's a matter of my phone looking for a file in a certain place instead of where it is housed. Could it be an SD issue? Anyone have this happen to them? Any help is appreciated.
I just upgraded from 2.9 to 3.5, and I've noticed all the other language support other than Alphabets are gone. Japanese, Korean, and Chinese letters show up as squares.
Is there way I can fix this? Like, by extracting a file to flash over or something?

Hmmmm, now that you mentioned it - I checked mine and sure enough, the Asian fonts are no longer displaying on mine running the smooth as silk (otherwise) GSB V3.5 - browser, music player, and map apps.
I checked under browser Settings/Text encoding and also Android keyboard settings, among other places - and not showing up properly.
I switched SD card & NAND restore to a different GB ROM (CM7-V9 recently released by CS) and everything is working on it, although I preferred Shed's ROM overall - so I'm puzzled & looking for a fix/reset ??
I do use the Eris's Google Translate for a quick thing or two while on the job - this isn't cool as terms are just showing up as boxes on screen now ....
If others are coming across this, perhaps we ought to post & link it back to GSB thread to see if Shed can look into this for a resolution ....

FIXED IT!
DroidSansFallback.ttf file was missing in the files. I'm assuming it was an attempt to reduce the rom size.
Here is the steps I took to get the Asian fonts working again.
1. From previous releases of GSB, I looked into system/fonts folder and extracted DroidSansFallback.ttf.
2. I moved the DroidSansFallback.ttf file into my SD card.
3. Using Root Explorer, I copied the DroidSansFallback.ttf file and pasted into system/fonts folder of my Eris.
4. Reboot.
It was a lot logical than I expected to be. I guess I didn't have to bother workshed with PM (although he never replied...)
Use a file explorer that allows you to look at the System folder.
Sounds good to me, I'm running CS's CM7-V9 GB and getting just as good battery life vs. Shed's GSB, and Camera has 9x zoom vs. 2x - GPS, wifi, SMS/MMS and other apps are working perfect - about as smooth as it can be - so I'm going to stick with CM7 for a while longer. Besides, ADW isn't a bad choice for me either as I can lock the desktop especially when I hand it off to show others on what this "litte" rooted Eris can do with GingerBread OS loaded.
Shed will probably release a newer update soon - given his track records on things - so when I switch back next time, I will retrieve it from my NAND-saved V3.3 or V3.4 versions sould the patch be needed.
Thanks for sharing your "find"
Info-Update:
Arrrrh, I tried it - moved to SD, restore by copy/move back to /system/fonts folder with root, reboot & even reflashed the V3.5 ROM - not working on my device. Getting the "boxes" again in Translate, Maps & even in Browser - ??? Wondering if I missed something else?
Going to roll back to V3.4 since Shed indicated a newer release will be out shortly (or, going to switch again to CS's CM7-V9 by doing a NAND restore - poor Eris, getting flashes over & over again ....)
P.S. I've posted a link to this thread in the Deveoper's subforum for Shed since he's doing a ROM update soon, perhaps he will look into this & fix it.
Maybe you shoudlnt have reflashed 3.5 over. Just flash the font and walk away. Give it a try that way
This is weird. I am running the Ineffabilis ROM with the 1.3 dsb SmartAss v2 kernel. I was running Ziggy but it froze up/rebooted at least once a day regardless of settings.
This is an absolutely killer setup, it looks awesome & is rocket fast with no freezeups/reboots whatever.
I had installed CPUMaster PRO & use it for speed/governor settings etc.
Last night, I decided to try undervolting slightly to see if it made any difference whatever in the already pretty good battery life. I went through it & set every clock speed at -50 for voltage. I also added a 1x1 home screen widget to constantly read out what speed it was currently running at.
It was plugged in/charging all night, & when I turned the phone on this morning the widget was gone (there was a blank spot on what had been a screen full of shortcuts etc.
I'm like WTF, but no big deal I will just recreate the widget. When I go to do that, I cannot find the app anywhere. It was completely gone from my phone & I had to DL & install it all over again......
I have occasionally had the Android bug where a photo taken to the card disappears (that has happened to me with three different phones & at least three different cards) but never had an installed app disappear before.
Has anybody else seen this particular problem/feature/error etc........ ???
~John
I just read a post about disappearing app in the last hour but when they went to reinstall it said they already had the app. Sounds like yours was actually gone?

I'm not 100% sure now, but I THINK it reinstalled it totally from scratch.
I use AppMonster as it automatically makes/saves a backup APK of every app I install to my card. Then, I don't have to find/DL an app in the future. I just go to the BU folder & click on that apps APK & I'm good to go again.....

I'm going to try that app out. Can you selectively restore apps or do you have to do them all?
While I'm on stock I'm trying a bunch of apps out and once I root and get a fresh ROM installed I'm not going to want to put all of the apps back.

Yes, you can selectively reinstall anything you want. It is an awesome app, I much prefer this to doing a batch reinstall with TIBU.
In the preferences, select "plain style backup" & set it to automatically BU any new app you install. That tells it to copy the APK from any app you install to a folder of your choosing.
Then, after a ROM flash you just go to the folder & selectively click on whatever apps you want to install. I have used the app for a couple years & it's awesome.

can vouch for app monster pro. Great way to back up. Some apps can't be restored (they will be marked protected), but most can and it will keep old versions as well so if an update is crap you can revert.
I've tried and tried and I just can't set my own sounds . I've searched xda and my problem and [non-successful] results are exactly as described in this [closed] thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40583172&postcount=5 BUT the solution in the very next post (and other suggestions) aren't working for me.
I put two sound files onto my One by installing ES File Explorer and copying the files from a server on my home network. The files got onto that server via ESFE directly from my old phone.
I put the mp3 I want to use as a default ringtone into /sdcard/Ringtones. The built-in Android sound picker doesn't show it, so I used ESFE to select it and I did break the default sound picker, just as described in that post, but the ringtone wasn't actually changed (i.e., I was still stuck with the default "AT&T Firefly" ringtone). I had to rename/delete the mp3 in order to fix the Android sound picker. Before I found that thread, I did a factory reset to fix it.
I want to use the other file (a wav) for Google Talk "new messages". I put that file in /sdcard/Notifications and Google Talk did not display it in the list of choices. I created /sdcard/media/audio/notifications and put it in there, too, as well as in each level of that folder tree (/sdcard/media and /sdcard/media/audio). Still no luck.
I'm singling out the Phone ringtone and Google Talk, but no apps see either of the files (I'm only using the built-in sound picker at this point). Apps DO list all of the built-in sounds (Aero, Ao, Aqua, etc. for ringtones, Almond, Azure, Capri, etc. for notifications) and I CAN pick from those, but I don't want to.
I'm running unrooted 100% out-of-the-box stock AT&T 4.1.2 with Sense 5.0. Please don't tell me to root, use another launcher, etc.; I've happily done that on my previous phones and will eventually get there with this one, but I'm not there yet. Maybe after there's an "official" 4.2, but that's another conversation and not a good answer.
I rebooted the phone after every copypaste.
I renamed the files so they were one, 6-letter word (no spaces or non-alpha characters).
I made sure the filenames were all lower case.
Both of these files will play via Amazon MP3, ES Media Player, Google Play Music, and Music on the One.
Both of these files worked as ringtone and notification on my previous phone, a rooted TMO MyTouch 4G running Android Revolution v7.04.
I am stumped and frustrated and have no idea what my phone is trying to tell me with these built-in AT&T mellow yoga-esque windchime noises, which I hate. I want my own sounds.
Are you guys not having this problem? Do I have to use some other specific file format (m4a? ogg?)? Do my mp3 and wav have to be a certain bitrate or something? Is there some other, special place I'm supposed to drop my files? How are you all doing this?
I just use Zedge from the play store. Free massive crowd source database, no need to root.

SOLUTION
Got it working. You HAVE to copy your own sounds via USB. Full text of solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40660425&postcount=9 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40660425#post40660425
Another vote for Zedge
