Hey everyone, just a quick question that I hope can be answered fairly simply. I have an Eris running Evil Eris 3.0 that I'd like to flash back to 2.1 (via PB00IMG). I know there's a tutorial, but I'm not very good with SDK. I downloaded the SDK and put the misc.img and flash files in the SDK/tools folder but I have no idea where to go from there. I'm trying to get my phone replaced, but I doubt Verizon would like me having anything other than the official releases on the phone, lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated! And I feel inclined to say, "sorry for being a n00b lololol," but I feel that's a little cliché. Thanks guys. Zach

Make sure before you do this, your phone is plugged into your computer with the Charge Only option and USB debugging ON.
Enter these commands using command prompt (assuming you have your sdk folder on the root of the C: drive)...
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb push PB00IMG.zip /sdcard(will take a few moments)
Click to collapse
Once that is done boot up into recovery, then select flash zip from sdcard and flash the PB00IMG file.
it's giving me "error: device not found." ??

Do you have all your phones drivers installed and everything?
Your wasting your time... If your just going to flash the original pb00img file, you can mount your phone so your sd card pops up on your computer screen, and drop the pb00img file on to your sd card. Then boot in to your hboot by powering your phone off abd then powering back on by holding down volume down and power at the same time and the phone will find the file and then just accept the update by pressing the track ball to confirm.... Thats it your good to go! Your phone will be original 2.1 root or leak whichever version of the pb00img file you use to downgrade..
HEY I tried to root my tbolt from the newest ota. When I do the old manual root and go to flash the pc05img it does make me do the volume up , and it goes to the bootloader. Any help on the situation ?
I'm not sure what you are asking, but the file needs to be named PG05IMG.zip not PC that might be your problem.

That's what I meant and I have the. Zip
It will pick the file up but no flash of the file
So you are saying you are going to the bootloader and it IS finding the file and IS requesting you to hit volume up? That is what is supposed to happen.

I used the somewhat easy root method in May or maybe march? I believe could be wrong? Still on 2.2.1 and have recieved no OTA's, I need return my Tbolt to verizon and cannot get back to stock; First (if I am wrong sorry I'm a noob that tries but that's all I got) My understanding is if I flash hboot and all of that stuff I will be in serious trouble??? Also I have no recollection of how or what programs I used to root in the first place I need just some pointing in the right direction, and I am capable of following direction and using abd or whatever I do not have any of the original files from the easy root because i have a new computer... Please help or at least point me in the right direction XDA you are the Best and most awesome.

just flash a stock ruu thru hboot and you'll be fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175506
1st download the ruu from web page and make sure its on the root of sdcard
2nd rename the file you just downloaded to PG05IMG.zip if your doing it from windows 7 make its not renamed PG05IMG.zip.zip
3rd power off your phone and the hold power and the volume down button and you'll boot in boot loader and hit the power button once more till its in hboot if you named the file correctly your phone will find it and load up to flash and your good to go, like you just bought it

Thank you everyone who replied. Got it all squared away I thought I had to replace the radio but Jcase had it all put together, Thanks again, I guess I was just worrying to much, don't want to brick my device you know.
When i was trying to boot into recovery mode it failed and it gave a superuser error. At this moment i had leedroid rom evo 3d gsm that is s-off. When i still had stock rom i never had this error but it seems like it was there all the time with the leedroid rom. Well so i was trying to boot into recovery. Tried it with power button and volume down button at same time, but this was failing. So i did it with rom manager. I used rom manager before when i installed leedroids rom. But now it didnt boot into recovery. I tried installing superuser again but it didnt seem to make any difference. with rootchecker i checked if i had root acces but it seemed i lost root acces :S. after retrying a couple of times my phone didnt boot back to the leedroid rom. I was trying a lot of things, with and without sd and sim. After about 20 reboots i tried power and volume down to go to bootloader and know it loaded. At bootloader start it loads some things and i saw no image blalbla dont really know what it meant. I tried to go to recovery but it wont boot, i get a white screen with htc and wont load anything. I tried all other options in bootloader too, to check if anything works but even a factory reset failed.
For me it looked like somehow my rom is f*cked and now i cant go to recovery mode somehow. I have rom on my sd so if i could go to recovery i could still flash. Does anyone know how i still might get to recovery mode or is there another way to still flash another rom. Maybe there are some people who can tell me more about leedroids rom, are there more people who got trouble with root acces?
anyone who might be able to help plz let me know, im so frustrated right now because i cant use my phone, i even need to think about a way to wake me up this morning because i always used my phone for alarm
That is a very easy to fix problem. First, download Clockworkmod recovery for your device (evo 3D GSM) or another recovery.
CWM 5.2.0 Shooteru: http://www.mediafire.com/?5kdr0c7xux2c64p
After download/finding the recovery, rename it to PG86DIAG. (or whatever it tries to scan for in bootloader. If its 2 things, it is the bottom one)
Place the file on your SD card somehow. (in your case you would need to take out the SD card and put it in another phone/adapter)
Boot into bootloader with volume down + power and it should scan for the file. When it asks if you want to do the update, press yes. After the recovery is installed, press power to reboot.
Do a battery pull while you are on the splash screen. Reboot back into bootloader with vol down + power and click on recovery. Wipe everything and flash the rom again. Reboot and you should be able to load the ROM with root and everything.
thx, im so happy to here your solution. Know lets search for my sd adapter, i know its somewhere . I will let you know later if it has worked

You're welcome! I'll be watching the thread.
Oke i did what you said but when i boot into bootloader nothing has changed. It doesnt ask if i want to update anything. And if i go to recovery and try to boot it keeps hanging at the white screen with htc
btw, you said this:after download/finding the recovery, rename it to PG86DIAG. (or whatever it tries to scan for in bootloader.
Do you mean it might be other name i have to make it? How do i know this?

It is probably a different name.
When you boot into bootloader, it scans for 2 files and says not found, right?
The second file it scans for is the one you want to rename it to.
hmke, ye it scans for files but its going fast so cant see it very well. I see about 5 things get scanned
oke first thing it scanned is called PG86DIAG.zip, 2nd is PG86DIAG.nbh, 3th is PG86IMG.zip, 4th is PG86IMG.nbh, 5th is PG86IMG.tar, 6th is PG86IMG.aes, 7th is PG86IMG.enc
All this things are scanned and then it says no image
From what I can read if you lost root then you are s-on on the bootloader right? if so installing recovery through bootloader wont work... check if you have S-on or S-off on bootloader if you have s-on you will need to use a official update to restore your phone...

Do PG86IMG. Also, if it says S-On at the top of the bootloader, you will need to get S-Off with revolutionary again.

No im still s-off, but when my phone was less ****ed as it is now and i could still boot normaly, i already had some strange things with leedroid rom. superuser never seems to be working well. i couldnt give root acces, it gave an error when i try. even through root chekker it says no root, but i thought that might have something to do with superuser.

do you mean name the file PG86IMG and not PG86DIAG?
lol your answer came faster
Oke still no difference, but it is chekking for a .zip file right? Im not sure if its .zip right now, is this the reason why its failing?
Ummmmm I dont see any other choice but this... you can follow this tutorial to get your phone working...
Code:

You are going to need to revert back to stock
I had the same problem a month back and was able to fix it.
Also don't worry if you can still get to the boot loader its fixable.

So it acts as if there is no .zip at all? Like it says "No image found"?
Double check if its a zip and the file is named properly. If it doesn't recognize it, there is a problem with your SD card/bootloader.
Oke when i put the .zip in a clockworkmod folder it didnt see it but now it shows parsing behind the PG86DIAG.zip and the PG86DIAG.img says no image or wrong image. All other thing still say no image
I tried the .zip you uploaded and now it could load the image , trying to flash now

I see what you're doing wrong. Don't put the zip in a clockworckmod folder. Put it on the root of your sd card.
(just directly on the sd card)

Good catch on that one.
If you don't put it directly on the root of your sd card then the boot loader will not be able to find the zip and flash it.
Oke thx, i finally booted into recovery . I first had to delete the .zip again because it was trying to update again when i didnt. Im so happy now , couldnt done this without your help so i will push the thx button few times^^

You're welcome!
Also, one thank is enough
Hello everyone, firstly I want to apologise for having my first post here be a forgettable and generic cry for help but I'm at my wits end and I hope that the community is nice enough; I would be very grateful. I rooted my phone as the idea really excited me as the phone had been really behaving erratically, since rooting it the phone performed brilliantly, I was thinking of installing CyanogenMod but it was lost on me, the entire process and caveats frightened me away... And I put my hands in the air admitting I probably didn't respect the process enough, thinking if the worse happened - c'est la vie! Well now it has and I'm feeling sick.
I rooted a few months ago, the Android version was 4.3. Basically I know what I've done and to quote Chromium himself in his thread for the app - I love the app, I'd done nothing at all exotic since rooting the phone - no custom ROM, no custom OS, just did it for the improved performance it affords, and I've been using Fontster all this time. Only recently, thinking I'm really clever I put a ttf font file on the phone via USB, a font that was unavailable in the app itself and thought nothing of it, promptly forgetting I ever did it to be honest.
Chromium said:
https://github.com/Chromium1/Fonts/raw/master/RestoreStockFonts.zip
This feature was available in one of the previous beta versions, but I decided to remove it from the app. One of the key points of this app is that it replaces all styles of fonts included in the rom and that I personally collected (or in some cases made) full sets of the fonts. In addition I edited the classifications of all the fonts so that they dont result in a bootloop when installed. If the user was able to pick their own files the classifications of the fonts will very likely be incorrect and they will soft brick their phone. Considering I already have a bunch of ignorant, uneducated reviews on the play store from people who failed to read the description, I cant imagine how much worse it would get if I left this option in the app.

I did not know this prior to I've done; last night I had grown tired of the font I had been using and started installing other fonts and had actually rebooted the phone a few times, and then I did it, didn't I? I must have chosen the font that I had put on the phone manually, the phone reboots and it hanged.
Since then, I've tried Odin and Kies. I needed to flash the stock recovery again and I have access to both Download and Recovery mode, Odin is detecting it all good and most of the internet is in agreement that as I have access to Download mode I am able to save the phone.
I have downloaded the stock ROM from multiple services, I currently have one downloading from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 however but there is no mtd tar file no matter how many times I unzip the folder, using Windows' own file manager and 7zip, and there is no discussion about this anywhere on the Internet, though I am on Windows 8.1!?
Please help, I'm thinking I just need that mtd/tar file to be put in the PDA box?!
Additionally when in recovery mode there is red text -
E: failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
can't mount '/system' (Invalid argument)
E: failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
Am I boned?
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated; this has really opened my eyes to the pitfalls of dealing in something I have no idea about, I'm through and through a Windows techie.

Thank you DarkestShadow for your reply; it's still downloading (but going from memory; but I'll edit when it's finished) there was a boot image, a META-INF folder, a Modem file, a system file and others - I know this isn't thorough enough. From what I've seen on YouTube and from guides online once the zip is extracted it all becomes a single mtr5 / tar file. And that just isn't happening, it's perplexing as much as it is infuriating.

Thank you very much. So if I am reading you correctly, if I can get the stock rom as a zip folder on the phone and flash via the stock recovery it should be good to go?
How would I go about getting the zip on the device? I have an SD card, although it has a lot of personal files which I don't want to lose. Could I use a tablet and computer connection to backup and get the stock rom zip on the SD card, put the SD card in my phone and then....??

Does not matter what method you choose as long as you get your personnel files off and get the zip in.
I did not realize you had stock recovery, so there is a chance it may not work. If not we will have to get you the proper odin type file.
Where are you from? what region/carrier stock are you trying flash on it?

I am in the UK. I am downloading I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU.zip , but even so, it's the whole issue with the fact I can't see the tar / md5 file.
The phone is the Samsung GT-i9300 Galaxy SIII, it's carrier unlocked.
Although I am perfectly happy and confident in flashing a different recovery, I just want to make the phone usable again. I managed to flash the stock recovery no problem. I don't care about flash count and the warranty, I'm upgrading my contract soon anyway, I just need the phone obviously!

Thank you DarkestShadow you have really surprised me, thank you so much for your assistance. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Okay so with this file, this will go in the PDA box of Odin yes? And then flash it to the phone, with that done I can then put the stock rom zip on the card, put the card in the phone, boot up to CWM and then presumably follow the on screen prompts?
In the mean time though, I will wait for the download of the zip to finish to see if there is a tar file, if not I will flash CWM and be straight back on here for further assistance which I hope you'll be happy to provide? Do I need to name the zip file of the stock rom anything?
Thanks again.

Yes in pda, then if it does not auto restart into recovery shut phone off and hold Home, Volume up and Power buttons together. When you see the samsung logo, let go and you'll see it go into custom recovery.
Then choose install zip, storage/sdcard1 and the file should be there, does not need to be named anything special or changed at all just aslong as you recognize it then confirm.

Thank you Darkest, probably another silly question; I can just chuck the zip anywhere on the SD card, regardless of all the crap Android has formatted on/for it? - like DCIM, Android etc. as long as it's in the root of the card and I know what it's named.

Okay then Darkest, finished downloading SGS3INT-XXUGMK6-BTU-20131216, extracted the zip and lo and behold I have the md5 file! As well as a dll file named SS_DL
Now what? I've completely forgotten, put that md5 file into the PDA box in Odin and commence the flashing, however if I wanted could I flash the custom recovery at a later date? If I intend on using custom OS's / rooting again / just for the ease of mind knowing it's a lot more thorough if I ever soft brick again.
I'm going to sleep now, it's 05:25AM for me, I hope that this help and advice and continue as I really appreciate talking with someone so versed in these matters, my friends and colleagues are all ****ing clueless!

Thank you for being here for me Darkest, I will try it tomorrow and report back, in the meantime is it possible to flash a custom recovery at any point? I don't want to ever have to go through something this stressful again, and this experience has only made me all the more cautiously confident ie: rom manager/custom roms/rooting etc.

I don't want to ever have to go through something this stressful again, and this experience has only made me all the more cautiously confident ie: rom manager/custom roms/rooting etc.

Yes with the i9300 we have the luxury of not having to worry about locked boot loaders etc so it should be able to be flashed with odin when ever you choose.

Thank you for all your help DarkestShadow, it worked like a charm, my S3 is now functioning, basically from the factory condition.
I have since rooted my S3 using CF Auto Root, what would you suggest my course of action to be?
Definitely install a custom recovery and from custom recovery? Can I then install say, a custom ROM but as long as I backup the current state of the phone I could then go back to back; if I wanted to?
