I'm a noob but i can usally grasp technology pretty easy . I'm trying to flash my phone but when i try to choose the file from the firmware (yes its in there i checked) its not there at first i just chose the folder flowed the instructions to see if it worked anyway but it didnt work. i tried both flash tool FlashTool version 0.2.9.1 and FlashTool version 0.2.8 but none worked (they were both the same i think) im using vista if that helps. Help please
First things first you're using Vista... Thats always a problem LOL... sorry =)
No, it shouldn't be...
You should just be able to select the folder that the file is placed in and it should come up on Flash Tool...
Let me ask... in the folder is it one file or a group of files??
i just put the rar file in there and unpacked it there

What files did you get out of the extracted RAR?
MD5,X10a_1.0_2_1_A_0_435 one text one ftf
Have you put all files in the firmwares folder of x10flashtool?
yeah i have
So you can see the files when you press FLASH in flashtool, and then select the file you want to flash? Where does it fail? Explain better.
i click on flash the i click on the 3 little dots to choose a folder it says the folder is empty. I can only see the file it i go in my download where i have my flash tool folder
That shouldnt be necessary, if you have the tft file in the firmwares folder it should come up directly when you click flash. Dont know what could be wrong! :s You have extracted flashtool right? And the firmware files..
yeah......
also i dont know if this will help but the only click-able buttons are flash donate and save log. The others are just there

Good job man... I guess this avoids all the DeviceID finding business
So, what about step 3 in Bin4ry's tutorial? can it be done by Omnius as well?
Is this exclusive to X10i? What happens with timescape/mediascape? Anyway to keep both of them as some people are reporting to have?

Yes as the root interacts with the firmware not the hardware. as far as i a aware though future solutions are imminent.
Can one use the R2BA020 and still achive root?
by missing out step 3 you are leaving your x10 on the slower older baseband

Hi All,
I seem to remember there being a guide to decrypting roms for the x10.
I've saved a backup of my oz optus firmware from pc companion and was hoping to make an unecrypted version of it to be used with flashtool.
I've tried searching and I simply cannot find the guide to unencrypt (That's if memory serves me correctly and it even exists.)
Could someone please point me in the right direction.
Cheers

This link might should be what your looking for - title has changed a few times
Does anyone know how to do it tho? I downloaded the "tool to partially decrypt" but it doesn't show any instructions or anything.. Just a bunch of files..
That tool won't decrypt the ROM. I will decrypt it soon (read: when I get access to my external HDD).
With that said lollylost, Do you need me to upload the two files somewhere?
Main reason I wanted to decrypt it was to extract the optus my account apk as its not available on either the market or the optus.com.au website.
And yeah i'd allready downloaded the decompression tools. Lollylost, have you got some sort of application or even a guide on how to decrypt the firmwares?
Would be nice if you could upload the firmware since all my firmwares are on the inaccessible HDD.

Reflashing has been covered before but since I had trouble with it I feel for you so i'll post my lil guide
Hopefully its allowable to link to file on other sites (If not can a mod feel free to edit this post and I'll create a pdf guide if thats okay).
EDIT: Turns out as a new user I can't link to external sites and services. With that in mind if you do a google search for "download SEUS" and scroll down till you see the sony ericcson site, you should be okay.
Step 1
Download SEUS if you dont allready have it (NOT pcCompanion that a different program)
Step 2
Using SEUS, run your phone through a repair. That means let SEUS download firmware and install it to your phone.
Step3
When using SEUS the db folder will be in C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\YOURIMEINUMBERGOESHERE\blob_fs
Find the two largest files in that folder select it so its highlighted & press F2 on the keyboard to rename the file. The filename will now be highlighted. Press <Ctrl> + <C> to copy the file name to your clipboard, press <ESC> to cancel the rename.
Now that you have copied the Filename to your clipboard, locate where you saved your original firmware files and highlight the largest one. Press <F2> again and this time press <Ctrl> + <V> . This will paste the new filename onto your firmware.
Do the same for the second largest file.
Step 4
With the file rename complete, you can now copy the two files you just rename into your C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\YOURIMEINUMBERGOESHERE\blob_fs folder.
Step 5
Run through the repair again with SEUS however this time when SEUS says its downloading it will take a matter of seconds and then flash your original firmware back onto your phone.
Step 6
ALL DONE Enjoy your original firmware.
Lollylost: I tried to upload files and it crapped out about 50% of the way through.
I did notice that there was once an SEUS plugin that you had uploaded to hotfile that did the decrypt on the fly, is it still possible to get this plugin so i can finally extract the my account.apk and get on with rooting my phone?
Cheers

Can someone please decrypt the Nordic image found in this thread for me? So I can flash via Omnius/flash tool if I ever need to do it. I am having difficulty figuring out how to do it myself.

I've become somewhat of a flash-aholic recently and brick my phone quite often. Especially with all the experimentation with dual boots and kernels and such.
Is there a way to convert my backup .img files to .sin/.ftf files so that they may be flashable via flashtool? I've looked all over the internet and XDA, but can't quite get everything together to make this happen. I know that being able to flash data could be troublesome, but I get tired of having to flash stock firmware and then root, then xrecovery to get back to my backups.
And by that time, I've forgotten what I was experimenting with/where I left off and what baseband I was on.
I'm not looking for a walkthrough, but just a finger-point of in the right direction.
Checked out Doomlords posts, SIN2IMG and the such, but that's to go in the opposite direction that I need.
(I highly doubt, but) If anything, a way to flash xrecovery via flashtool without having a working rom.

Gonna play with this in a bit.

Compile .sin
Also looking how to compile a .sin file.
Google gives me one of three types of info:
sin(sine wave) - trigonometry
.sin - Microsoft game files (Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, etc.)
and of course, sin - Christian morals
Okay....I cannot find a valid link to Jerplea's SIN reconstructor. Only dead links.
Does anyone have a copy of this? Seems like it'll be my only hope.

unyaffs worked great. Just drag and drop then you get your system, data, and cache from the corresponding .img.
Now I'm using the ConvertTool to break down the .sin but cannot figure out how to extract the .tgz that comes out. 7zip says that it cannot open it as an archive.
Wanting to look at the file structure of the .sin.
...Back to work...
Thanks to all that......uh............helped?

Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately we cannot create proper .sin files from yaffs images - .sin files are signed with SE signature and we still don't know the public/private keys.
The .sin structure is quite simple:
[sin header]
[signature1]
[signature2]
[body of the actual image]
If the rumours about bootloader unlocking are true, soon you will be able to flash backup images via fastboot

You can download the msm7227.7z . Extract it and the contents are some apps and some folders.
One of them is 'sinTools'. Inside it are some applications, i think, that can help in making .sin files to sign these.
Please try and help me what to write in the command window.

I have download firmware in .zip format. in my pc i have install WINRAR. this shown only zip. if i extract there i not find .ftf file. i try to rename but its shown zip. how i change get .ftf file. plz reply me
an .ftf file is just a zip-file with a different extension, just rename it, right-click on it and change .zip to .ftf
I believe you have not open the option to see the extention of your file. open it in your windows, then you can change it. or, just use mobile phone explorer to do it.

The built-in Windows Archiver used to zip folders doesn't use the proper format for files that need to be flashed. You should use Winrar or 7-zip if you have unpacked the zip-files.
If you've just downloaded the files without unpacking them, just rename them to .ftf without unpacking. Because your browser recognises the .ftf's as .zip-files it renames them on download-completion, simply renaming them back will solve your issues.

Hi. I am a newbie in flashing phones. I am having a Lenovo A850. I was planning to flash it to Android Marshmallow (CynogenMod) . It was really hard to find the ROM. Somehow I managed to find one here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-lenovo-t3724018 . Once I downloaded it, I noticed that it is in RAR format. I tried entering CWM in my phone, and the RAR file doesn't show up. CWM probably does not support flashing RAR files.
What should I do now?

What you do for a quick fix is to open the .rar file on your computer using a software like winrar, or 7zip. Then compress it using the software as a .Zip file then you can flash it easy as that.
Doing this is changing the file format all correctly with correct conversions so it should be alright. But be aware that this is a quick fix which I use and have success with. Not sure if it would work for you But it should, if it doesn't don't hit me ~ QAQ
Note that this is possible as well on phones using file manager with inbuilt rar,win support
