Okay I''m on 318 on my locked to AT&T via Clockwork Mod and I got the update notification for 2.2.2, but I do not want it! Is there anyway to get rid of this annoying notification?
should be settings, about phone, software information. Should say something like automatically check for updates and a box that's ticked. Untick and it should stop message until you manually download update

Nope doesn't give you that option on the Streak. Thanks anyway.
So no luck on this one I guess.
Edit "system\build.prop" and change the line that reads 31800 to 35100, save and restart

I'm still not getting the 1.8.3 update. When I check, it says "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later."
Is this normal, because they're still doling it out? Or is there a problem?
The message makes it sound like the update service itself was not found, not that there was no update found.
I haven't done anything more radical than root my phone, so I wouldn't think there would be an issue.
If you don't get an OTA notification try this:

I know I need wifi to download the update, but I didn't think I needed it to *check* the update.
But can someone confirm that the message I received is standard to no update being available, rather than the update *service* not being available?
Normal message is:
Your device is up to date.
No update is necessary at this time.
OK (button)

Okay, then what does it mean that I keep getting "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later."?
I just flashed using the stock rooted 1.22.651.3 rom. However, the OTA update message is still displayed on the phone and I am afraid I will accidentally update it and have the phone unrooted. How can I keep that message from displaying?

Go into your settings. Then scroll down until you see apps. Then when the app settings appear tap on all. Then scroll down until you see the app "updater". Then click on it. Then clear data on it and reboot.

I also had the message after I flashed and I fixed it by manually checking for updates. It said no updates available and the message went away.
JUST to let everyone know, i've recieved notification for the update, i've got 3 choices reject, defer, and ok. so which should i choose.?????
???

if it were me, i would accept and try the exploit. but its not a guarantee that it would work
EDIT:

For future reference, you can download it and then choose not to install it. It can be downloaded over Wi-Fi, or uses background mobile data but doesn't display the icon.
EDIT:
It took 11 minutes to install, and now I'm Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1. I can't find how to change the Recent Apps button to a Menu button. I'm slightly upset about that.
Now on to attempting root!

Is that the "Defer" option, or "Yes", then choose to not install?
Once it downloads I would expect a constant nag to install until you do.

First "OK" to download update, then "Defer" to not install it once it has downloaded. And yeah, you'll probably get constant nags.

I believe the Menu button change is the 3-button Mod that you can install once rooted.
Good luck on the root attempt! Please let us know how it goes.
so can we not use this exploit unless we have downloaded the newest update?

Unlike the sense 4.1 updates for one series and EVO LTE, ours does not bring the key remappingoption to settings...those updates changed display & gestures to display, gestures, & buttons...and the option is in there for those users
Got the update but unlike others, mine just downloaded and installed without asking me permission! I was in my car and needed to make a call too! Argh. But at least it seems to have installed OK.
Any idea if this update is available for download on VZW's website somewhere? I am having trouble with the OTA update.
I got the update too...no notice, it just d/l'd and installed without options. What's the new icon in the status bar (left of the wifi)?
Caught mine just before it installed the update and yanked my battery. Every time I boot it back up it tries to install the update. Any ideas on how to get it to clear the update? Don't want to update til we know more about what this might mean for the possibility of S-OFF or root with the current h-boot.
it downloaded mine and i defered it, but where does it download to, i can't find it.

My phone is running v20f, I have rooted and done various tweaks, so I do not plan on updating to v20h. My phone is notifying me of the update every 10-40 minutes. I tried the method of freezing the com.lge.lgfota.permission and I successfully did that, but could not find com.lge.omadmclient to freeze as instructed in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37433783&postcount=10
Is there any way to stop the notifications? It literally runs every 10-40 minutes and has for 2 straight days.

You could try this but I can't guarantee anything.
A couple days ago I downloaded the update from v20f to v20h. Rebooted but for some reason it failed to restart; got the Droid with exclamation mark in the stomach (possibly due to Voodoo rootkeeper??). I removed the battery for a few minutes and then booted. The update was not installed and the phone has been running v20f ever since with no notifications. It won't even let me update manually. It may be that when you download the update the server records your phone's info and won't let you download it again. ?? In short, take the update and before it reboots remove the battery for a while. Again, no guarantees.

Will that cause adverse effects on future updates? Isn't that what updates the play store and what not?

Our phones don't brick
TO THE OP TRY THIS
0. Root, if you haven't already.
1. Download AutoRun Manager
2. In ARM, choose "Advanced"
3. Touch the wrench icon, and check
- Show System Entries
- Enable System Application Disable
4. Back on the application list, tap the refresh (circle arrow) icon if you don't see system apps. They should have a red background.
5. Find the app Google System Framework (aka: GSF) and tap it.
6. Uncheck the "com.google.<something>.gsf.update.SystemUpdat e" receivers. I can't read my own handwriting at the moment, but they both end in SystemUpdate.

Well what I did was freeze com.lge.lgfota.permission in Titanium Backup and then I used Root Explorer to find LGFota.apk in \system\app and changed it from LGFOTA.apk to LGFOTA.bak. Then I let the update run which will give you the dead android and it shoul solve your problem. Well now that I'm thinking about it the apk is the one that reboots your phone until recovery so if you change it then you will have to just power off your phone and you should be fine.

I downloaded the OTA Update file but when I press it says:
Low battery. The devices battery should be more than 15%
But I have 87%, I also tried reboot. I don't have cwm to clear battery stats
So what should I do

You should install the update via the PC. It's better that way. Installs done via the PC typically have less issues than OTAs plus, you don't have to worry about the stupid OTA system saying your phone isn't ready.
Also tried clearing cache of app

If you have the correct update.zip and the stock recovery, then it should work. All recoveries should have a signature check to prevent people from trying to install the wrong things. What phone do you have?
