Has anyone had an issue with the keyboard thinking that keys are being held down even though they are not? Not sure if this is an android issue but it had never happened when I ran Winmo on the phone.
Running latest kernel, ryannnathans sd setup and highlandsuns ril addition.
I will be typing along and suddenly get like 80 a's in a row with no way to stop it.
It may be the physical keyboard dying but I thought I would ask before I attack it with compressed air and a screwdriver.

Nothing physically wrong with the hardware, definitely an issue with our port. Not sure if anyone has nailed down the reason, but it seems to be if you're typing and some background process starts up, it can screw with the phone. I've also seen it where the keyboard appears to completely 'cut out' - nothing will be typed.
For both issues, sliding the kbd closed & reopening usually fixes it. This has fixed my issues 100% of the time when the kbd cuts out - however, it has not always resolved the repeat key bug...
I will try the keyboard slide. thanks.
I just had over 200 w's. LOL.
As long as I can stop it its tolerable.

Yep, I've seen it several times. It seems to happen when the CPU seems to be maxed out for whatever reason. My phone is usually sluggish and on screen buttons are slow to respond too when it's going on. I'm guessing the CPU is getting overloading and missing some of the hardware polling cycles. As a result it doesn't pick up the change in the button state and proceeds as if the button is still being held down. Aside from arrrghhh's suggestion of opening/closing the keyboard, pressing another key seems to interrupt the process (but it will happen again). For me, the main times I have run into the problem was when my phone was NOT overclocked. Certain apps (e.g. Super Manager) seemed to cause the issue more than others too.
Yeah, I have noticed that it only repeats a letter if I hold it. Now I only tap a letter a few times, for example if I want a few 2's I would push 2 a few times instead of holding it.
If it starts repeating what solves it for me is what arrrghhh said, slide the keyboard in and then back out.
I'm still not sure why this occurs though. Maybe the method it uses to emulate keyboard needs a bit of tuning
i believe the stuttering letter bug (hope this name will catch on ) is caused by something in the keyboard backlight commit as that is where is started. In gingerbread when you hold down a key it doesnt repeat it instead gives an option to use variations of that letter, because of this maybe in gingerebread this bug is not as annoying
iv used gingerbread but havnt taken any notice of wether i had the bug or not, its not as bad lately on the kernal i use but i will take not next time
That's an interesting observation, I thought the bug always existed but I can easily believe it has to do with the keyboard backlight. I was looking at that code the other day, it definitely looks suspicious.

It does *seem* like the bug was introduced around then. Not positive tho, wish there was a way of tracing/reproducing this issue.
Perhaps trying files from before backlight was added?
If I had the time to look back I would.... Maybe in the next few nights.
I always hit home and let the maelstrom of letters work itself out and then return to what i was doing (texting usually).

Also I have recently noticed that closing/opening the keyboard again seems to stop the progressing letters.
And when you open/close the keyboard the backlights go off then on. This is another observation which hints that the keyboard backlight commit is at fault. It also may be useful to note that when you shut the keyboard it doesn't stop the letters, it is upon re-opening when it stops.
This bug has always been worth putting up to have keyboard bl but it still would be nice to have someone clean ir up and see if they could remove the bug

I guess I'll save Jandyman the trouble. I've worked out the patches for userland keyboard and buttonlights. I also now have a kernel with the keyboard light stuff disabled. Will be testing on my phone for the next couple of days and see how it behaves. (So far so good, while entering this post...)

Awesome. I'm sure he'll appreciate that .
FYI, I was going to bug you about this - if the caps/FN and kbd hooks should be in userland anyways, perhaps that rewrite should begin...?
I'm not so sure about caps/fn. I don't think there are any userland hooks for them. Or, haven't found them yet.

Hi All,
My HD2 just came back from repair.
I sent it in a hope that they will change my buggy screen (like lot of people, the touch function is buggy. Sometimes doesn't react, sometimes it feels a pressure while i don't press it, sometimes it works well... ).
Anyway, of course they didn't change any screen...and i just missed my HD2 for 2 weeks.
They did a Hard reset and installed all the HotFIx. Which i bet won't fix any issue that i have with the screen.
However, i do notice they installed a hotfix i never heard about yet:
LEO08787.exe
Does anyone have ever heard about it and what it does ???
send it back again and demand a replacement screen since it is a known fault with the original screens. They are just trying to get out of paying for the new screen.
regarding the hotfix nope, havent heard of it, but I dont track the hotfix versions so it may be a known one
ok lets install this and see how it goes..
hope its not a bogus file with some virus inside ...
HTC repair center SUCKS big time.
@kaemon: i also had that problems (sometimes the screen just wouldn't react to my touch) and i brought it to my reseller so they sent it to repair center and it come back untouched, they've only done the screen calibration which i have done dozen times. And it took them 16 days to do that. i'm definitely buying an iphone next time.
Unreleased hotfix
Apparently this is an (as yet) unreleased HotFix for the HD2, that is designed to correct some issues with the touchscreen. POCKETNOW.COM have tested this hotfix and found that it "drastically improved" the typing on the touchscreen, and also cured the HD2s alleged inability to draw a straight line when in Notes.
(Please note, I have not tested this yet, as I havn't suffered any such problems on my HD2, but I'm sure a quick check on their website will find you the page in question, which contains a link to the hotfix).
Pocketnow seem to think it's pretty decent. I'll give it a go.
Just installed it.. And I got to say i reckon typing maybe more accurate! not completely sure as time will tell. Installed on a Euro version about 5 months old, certainly the lines in Note are not like an ECG any more so
direct link for those who want it
http://www.mediafire.com/?kjmeyleaewz
IMO this is by far the best HotFix I ever installed. Typing works massively improved for me (also on the PIN-unlock-screen). I'm currently on German stock ROM.
So what do you reckon? Worth installing? Can it be uninstalled?
** Edit **
Just seen the two replies above - sounds good! I'm going to give it a try and will report back.
Tried it but didnt like it, it made my screen unresponsive and the ui jerky.
Installed after reading the Pocketnow tweet but uninstalled about 5 minutes later.
Screen became very unrespsonsive and massive slow down in scrolling.
Seems to be a 50/50 split.
Give it a try though

definately a little less responsive to some touches, i'm just tweaking slightly with HD2tweak and see if that makes a difference....
UpDate:
I wonder if this hotfix is just changing a reg key, the same as BsB tweaks to decrease the screen sensitivity or if it is actually a driver?
Ive just changed the screen sensitivity in HD2tweak to very high and it seems to have eliminated the unresponsive touches but remains much better with typing accuracy? I would love to know what this .exe actually does within the system..maybe someone more clever than me can take it apart and see whats inside.
oh yeah running a tmous 2.13 Rom on a euro Leo if thats any help
Well I tried it....
EVen though I didn't suffer from any problems with the touchscreen on my HD2, I thought I'd give it a go, and set myself a couple of tests.
1) I used "notes.exe" and tried to draw 5 straight lines, and got five slightly curved and wavy lines.
2) I typed a message "this will test how accurate my keypad is or how bad my typing is", and had to correct three mistypes/mistakes.
I then installed the hotfix, and tried both tests again....
1) Five pretty straight lines, certainly better than before
2) typed the same message, and only one correction.
So, based on the 5 mins since I installed, it seems that this fix DOES make an improvement. I'll keep monitoring it and report back to let you know.

i just tried the same thing...
after the latest update from TMOUS, my typing has been terrible. swype is unstable too.
gonna flash the latest energy rom. that should help.
if we're going to be posting feedback, can i suggest that those who try it also report the manufacturing dates of their devices (if known to them)? at the very least, do report what screen type is on the device. what i am referring to is the fact that the hd2 ships with TWO kinds of screens. earlier models shipped with a screen with fewer "dots" while the newly manufactured devices ship with a screen with noticeably more "dots" (these additional brighter dots are visible on the intersections of the criss-cross "lines").
i personally have the newer model and i have no problems whatsoever. notes always draws straight lines and typing is accurate out of the box.
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
Using NRGZ28 EnergyROM.
it work very well for me
sure it's less responsive :/

Same here, might give it a little bedding in period but I'm already thinking about uninstalling it
I just installed this and it has improved the accuracy of typing on the keyboard especially at speed. I can touch type (badly) so with any qwerty keyboard i can do 100 ish words a minute. Before every other word had to be corrected but my test sentence "this is a test to see if the keyboard accuracy has been improved at speed" needed not one. Line drawing is still too accurate (that was the problem before. it is impossible for a human to draw a perfect straight line free hand) but it is better. I've also noticed in my typing test that the contact i used to test the htc messaging app load speed (contact has currently 2481 messages associated with it) was massively improved. I have no idea if this is related but this patch appears to have done something to it. I'll keep an eye on that just to see if the effect is because my phone just had it's first reboot in 8 days or not.
Done some quick further testing on the Messaging app load speed and it appears that either the way the message database is loaded has been changed (instead of loading them one by one it seems to loading them all in one big chunk) or the graphics driver has been updated (reading this i'm not sure if it's not the undefined option 3) but something is definitely different there because whether it's 2500 messages or 10 the load time is now the same and faster than before.
Something weird is defintely up with this hotfix and i bet it includes more than just a touch screen update too.
Hey guys,
I'm between classes so I can't do a more thorough search. I had an issue this morning where the screen would flicker but ONLY teh menu bar would flicker mostly. It looks like a gruesome mess up where it just turns into static momentarily and flickers on/off like that every few seconds. The menu bar also moves up and down very slightly, maybe by 10 or so pixels each time, when it's not doing that. I also tried opening the clock menu (bottom right) and that would flash on/off, every second, but if i touched something on it, it would stay solid sometimes.
The "gruesome mess up" with static happened rarely (compared to how often the menu bar was glitching) on my screen.
My mouse pointer also started flashing at one point and became unresponsive. It would also sometimes disappear entirely until i clicked my usb mouse or moved the touchpad (tablet was docked).
i had similar glitchy issues last week, but it lasted for less than a minute or two and didn't happen very often. this lasted for a good 30 mins today.
i wasn't able to snag a movie of this since i was in a meeting. i'll try to get one up later
has anyone else seen anything like this? I watched videos of other screen issues people had and this didn't look anything like this. other than this issue and ****ty gps, i don't have any issues with my prime. I'm planning on contacting tiger direct later in the afternoon as I have 2 days left in my 14 day period.
any feedback would be appreciated!
Just try rebooting device to see if it clears. If not a factory reset. Maybe a bad app or something causing it to glitch like that. Sounds more like a SW bug.

i rebooted it and i'm using my laptop for the time being. if it comes back, i'll definitely report back. only apps that were running were the usual apps that come bundled with it (ie maps, NV stuff), volume+ and repligo pdf reader.
clearing my recent apps didnt do anything and nothing else was running.
i also did a factory reset last weekend (not yesterday/sat but the weekend before).
if it keeps going, maybe i'll try to do a FDR again
I have the same problem. Most of the times it hapends in Opera. I also sometimes have a flicker when using the recent apps thing, than I have a triangle flicker...

I've had this happen as well, though only since the .11 update.
Happens infrequently and rarely bad enough to prevent continual use of the tablet. Maybe.. 2 or 3 times it was so bad that I've just rebooted the tablet to clear it. Other times its more annoying artifact problems(the scatter, or the occasional random white triangle when using the app switcher).
Specifically I've seen the vertical shifting of the bottom menu bar, as well as screen scatter (looks like static or interference). The scatter occurs predominantly on the left 1" or so of the screen and only on screens where I can scroll up and down (not the home screen, for instance). I also have the aforementioned app switcher graphical glitch.
Had the device a month, this is the first (and only) problem I've had. I'm assuming its an issue with the last update and just waiting to see if the next one clears it (aside from mentioning it in relevant threads here).
If the next update doesn't clear it, I'll get it touch with Asus.

Great, thanks for the info. I was perusing my tablet settings, dev settings rather, and saw that I checked "Force GPU rendering". Do you have this enabled as well? Maybe that might have something to do with it for incompatible apps?
I do not have "Force GPU rendering" checked. I have tired it with both checked and unchecked and experienced the problem both ways. FWIW.
I have personally experienced a few different types of screen flickering that seem to cause graphical tears on-screen.
One causes a strange triangular shape on the bottom, left-hand side of the screen.
Another causes weird lines that appear, then disappear quickly... which eventually leads to the screen bobbing every few seconds.
Any insight, folks?

The screen static happens in nearly any app that that requires vertical scrolling (ie, content is off the page). I've noticed it most frequently in the stock browser, Repligo, and Word2Go. But those are the areas where I spend the majority of my time.
The app switcher graphical glitch can happen no matter where I am, but doesn't happen every time and in no consistent pattern I can find.
Likewise, the jittering of the notification bar can happen in any app or none at all.
After installing 9.4.2.13 and then using my TFP for about six hours I've yet to encounter any of the issues I had with .11 that are listed in this thread. The issues may resurface, but six hours is much longer than I used to go without seeing a graphical glitch (especially the task switcher one).
Updated to .13 yeterday and still have graphic glitches:
1) Triangle - while pressing "Recent apps" button
youtu.be/2yQ7THiWO8g
only happens with maximum performance mode on and >7 apps in recent list
(and not sure but seem like it anly happens in landscape mode)
2) Keyboard glitch - while running Youtube "3D-wall"
youtu.be/piSJOUaDHsQ
Not only keyboard flickers but the bar at the top also
Having this issues since the first update to ICS. 3.2.2 -> 4.0.3, done full wipe - did not help
Check the videos I've made with .11 installed, and .13 did not fix 'em (have not done full wipe after updating to .13 yet).

Here is what would be good
I have experienced the bobbing, and other than that just a super quick static thing, where a thin line runs through the screen, very quickly, seems to change position quickly, and then it's gone. Almost looks like a vertical version of the horizontal static you might occasionally see on a television.
As I say, it happens very infrequently, so I have had no reason to go looking for a solution. I'll tell you what I WOULD like to see, though. Wouldn't it be great if Asus started including (or posting shortly after) a changelog or fixlist for the many updates they have been getting out for the Prime.
I understand these are maintenance updates and that Asus is seeking solutions for spontaneous rebooting, wifi and bluetooth throughput issues and so on. That's great and it is particularly amazing to see Gary getting beta firmware for XDA members to test. It just doesn't get better than that (short of not having issues in the 1st place)
The reason I am calling for (well, asking) some type of changelog is, it would help those without particular issues make an informed decision whether or not to even APPLY a particular update.
I know that Asus is not likely to want to air dirty laundry, such as engineering observations such as why something broke in previous code, nor would they want to give away any proprietary info of Asus or Nvidia, but a basic description of whats in the package would be super useful. I.E. : "Second attempt (or attempt B) to fix screen banding is in this release.
Asus seems to be leading the charge in the industry in terms of "working closely with end users" albeit somewhat out of necessity. ANY company as big as Asus willing to allow beta testing amoung users is amazing, regardless of the fact that they needed to do SOMETHING to get a handle on these issues.
My final point is that while Asus does not want a piecemeal approach, with different FW versions floating about, there is definitely an inconsistent result to EVERY Firmware package that has been released. Does that hint that there are subtle hardware differences to you? It does to me. No matter how minute the differences are, and whether they are component revisions, manufacturing inconsistencies or whatnot, this is what it looks like to me.
Asus does not want this to be known. Illustrated by Gary's statement in the now widespread interview he did. He specifically said there have been NO hardware changes since release.
Why would he say that if it were not true? I wondered the same thing since another Asus Support Manager told me something quite different. I am NOT one for conspiracy theories, but there is a much simpler explanation. If the serial numbers are truly sequential, then a "C1 would indicate that it is from the second 100k numbered units. I have onlya wild guess that this is correct, so on that part, I am truly being speculative. BUT, whatever the number is, lets justsay that the BCOKAS Serials - The first ones, of which I had one (My replacement is a C1) are MANY. Whatever the number, do you think Asus would want it to be public knowledge that they changed or improved (or worsened, lets admit) some hardware on the newer serial numbers?
Picture the amount of people who would now be demanding the newer hardware. Not everyone, not even MOST customers, but enough that it would be extremely expensive to have this happen. Like I said, I am not a conspiracy guy, but this just seems to make sense. Anyone agree with that statement?
Just food for thought.
Phone details are in my signature. I reset the phone right out of the box as I always do when new phones or after doing a software upgrade.
I've noticed that marketplace isn't notifying me of app updates available.
When I buy something, it keeps says I have to buy over and over again and never lets me download the app even though I get the email confirmation from MS.
The on-screen keyboard, at the password screen or even when I go to start a text, there is a full 1 second delay or more in the first letter/number I push, always. Is this a defect in the touch screen or software?
My old WP7 had none of these issues.

Take it back and get another one. At a store they should swap it right there and then. It could be software related like every phone at launch has issues or a serious hardware problem

If its a software issue we can rule out Factory Reset... and that Im aware of there hasn't been an RUU leak for 8112 for the titan2 so flashing it is impossible.
Was the issue present from the get go? Like the moment It was turned on before setting up anything?

After turning on my phone out of the box, I went straight and did a hard reset. So I noticed everything after that. Marketplace not notifying of app updates and the touchscreen keyboard issue yes. I only tried buying that app after reinstalling all the other apps I had bought for my previous WP so I can't say about that issue.
I think I will just hang onto the handset until the Tango update is released and hope that resolves the issues.
UPDATE: Looks like marketplace is now notifying me of app updates correctly now and the app purchase I made has no gone through. I guess something was maybe going on with MS's side of things. I'll just deal with the keyboard/dial pad delay thing and hope Tango fixes it, it's only delayed on the first character I enter when I start typing anyway.

Thank you, that worked! I wonder why some windows phone have this issue and some don't? Perhaps the quality & latency of the nand flash? I have noticed this phone is a little slower than my Arrive was.
I had the exact same keyboard / touch screen delay issue. Turning off the keybaord sound definitely seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks.
I had a Lumia 900 and trades it for the HTC Titan II because of the camera issues with the Lumia. The HTC is better in my opinion but the tap delay issue was a real pain and I did not experience it with the Lumia.
I'll give it a shot, too as I have the delay. I also swapped out my Lumia for a Titan 2 and very much prefer it.
I have exactly same issue on my titan II.
I used focus before titan II. But focus hadn't this issue.
I think it can be fixed but now I feel inconvenience a lot.

The on-screen keyboard, at the password screen or even when I go to start a text, there is a full 1 second delay or more in the first letter/number I push, always. Is this a defect in the touch screen or software?
My old WP7 had none of these issues.
Anyone else?

Re-flash the ROM with stock ROM. HTC they have serious problems in doing their initial setup. I had problems with my 2 HTC devices, and flashing helped me.

Do you have the stock ROM for the Titan II?
Anybody please help with htc stoke rom for titan 2, thanks
Stock ROM is much appreciated ! Anyone with some information ?
i too had the keyboard issue, but have mostly gotten used to it, but it would be nice to have it fixed while keeping the keyboard sound.
another issue im having is more hardware related- when i press lightly, on the edges of the screen, there is a "glow" around the area i press like on a pc when you touch the screen. i can also feel the screen around the edges bending slightly, like the screen is loose. anybody else have this?
i have never had this on anything else with a touchscreen- ive had 2 iphones, a samsung gs2 skyrocket, and an asus transformer prime

That is probably because of the unibody design they've opted for. This issue is much similar to what annoyingly cheap hardware feeling I get when I press hard on "Windows" softkey. You can feel the spring and at times it makes that cracking sound too. But from what I've read around, as time passes on with these unibody designs, the back case get lose and so does the front chasis. Probably that "glow" you are referring to is due to lose screen chasis?

no one else has this? because the phone is brand new and did this out of the box
I'm actually having this problem as well new right out of the box. But also its not only the keyboard sound but sound in games as well. When I play games its really glitchy as the game will pause for a split second when there is a long enough gap in sound.
I bought the phone new in box unopend off craigslist for my girlfriend so im not sure if I can get this warrantied. Additionally I tried flashing the stock rom like people have been suggesting but with no luck the issue is still present.
Its a shame that such a nice phone could have such a frustrating problem right out of the box. My first gen wp the HTC Arrive never had this issue. Yet I really haven't seen much online or a fix expect whatever has been said on this thread.
Can my girlfriend just simply activate the phone and take it to at&t and get it replaced without proof that she bought it at the store?

I found that if you turn off key press sounds and disable the sound enhance, the phone works much much better.
Edit: these modifications below sometimes help a little bit but DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING
@devs please close this thread.
Hi,
just found a thread at sony about the touchscreen issues. Since that post also references some XDA-Threads I guess it has been published before in some other Xperia threads, but I did not searched for it.
I tested this running stock Xperia ROM (.402) and also CM11 and these issues are gone for me. The touchscreen is much more responsive now and I never noticed that complete touch freeze again.
What's about your device? Does this fix help?
Note: You need root to apply this fix!
Change these two lines in /system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc
R/W-Mount /system (mount -o remount,rw /system)
In /system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc change the values of
touch.pressure.scale to 0.001 (original value: 0.1)
Code:
touch.pressure.scale = 0.0001
touch.filter.level (original value: 2)
Code:
touch.filter.level = 1
reboot
Is this for fixing my z2t screen sometimes just not respond to my fingers pressing keys or stuff?

As said above: I never noticed that complete touch freeze again
This is hasenbein1966's suggested fix, unfortunately didn't seem to make a difference to me. But then again, I don't have the issue where the screen completely freezes, only occasional unregistered touches and some glitchy two-finger gestures, when the tablet is resting on a stand or some other surfaces.

Thanks for the hint!
According to this I searched a little bit and found another thread from hasenbein1966 on the german Android-Forum
There he reports that this TS issue is gone when he replaced the library in /system/lib/touchfilter/tftype.so with one from the Z1.
The complete thread is in german but google translate can do the (or tell me the #msg and I'll translate it for you if it's not too much
I didn't tried it since my Z2 is currently @home, but I think it's worth a try if the issue ever comes back to me.

Just tried the tftype4.so fix and while it doesn't fix the touch issue 100%, I definitely do see a noticeable improvement.
Update: never mind, the touch screen just went back to its usual behavior. The improvement was probably purely due to rebooting.
Update 2: yup, just got the same temporary post-reboot improvement after restoring the backup of the original touch filter file.
I suppose I will just wait until they finally start to roll-out that latest certified firmware, and see if that brings any improvement. But I don't have my hopes high since it's obviously a grounding issue, which of course is hardware-based.
I tried the "fix" involving the clearpad.idc changes, too.
It did not fix anything, I regret.
Touchscreen response is still a pain in the you-know-where.
Haha, this whole touchscreen thing is bordering on hocus-pocus...
Yes, I suggested this "fix" here weeks ago because it seemed to improve the issue back in the days when I still had the .36 firmware.
It wast just a suggestion for people to try it, I didn't claim it to be a definitive "fix" or so.
Meanwhile I had to reset the clearpad.idc values to 0.1 and 2, because annoyingly the tablet often recognized double taps when I only tapped once which made, for instance, inputting passwords nearly impossible. Now I haven't this problem anymore, so obviously clearpad.idc DOES make a difference - it's only mysterious what clearpad.idc values really do, there is no documentation available anywhere.
The touch screen is also rather dependent on weather - here in Germany it's now hot and humid, and touchscreen operation, especially with greasy hands, is less reliable than in cooler, drier weather.

Double taps are painful experiences! I can hardly stand it.. So you completely fixed double taps problem? May I have your clearpad.idc code? And one more question is what's your rom region and version? I want to flash my tablet if your rom and method can solve this problem
Thanks a lot!!

He only restored his clearpad to factory default, so your clearpad is most likely the same as his.
Anyone one having issues with the stock LG keyboard and phantom characters on right side of screen? ie a P produces an O? Mine does not do it all the time and when it does a phone restart seems to fix it for awhile.

I wound up exchanging my G3 for an S5, but it's funny you mention that because I occasionally had the same problem. I figured I was just being extra sloppy when I was typing - if I was extra-extra careful I could still get the intended letter...
Not sure if I was fat fingering it and it's just a coincidence, but since I no longer have my G3 I can't really test it.

When its acting up I can actually press the P and see the O highlight in depress animation....frustrating. ...
I had this happen to me when typing in the stock message app. Every time I would type something it would only do numbers. I found when this happens if you switch from lg to swype and back with in the app it fixed it.
I've been trying out this keyboard. I like it much more than I thought I would, especially coming from SwiftKey.
I use Google KB. Can't type for chit using LG KB though I tried to like it

I didnt notice until you said it....each time I have fought with it it was in stock message app. Wonder if its more app related than input.
I love using the Android L keyboard :good:
