There's the video, guys.. have fun and be careful!
written instructions are as follows:
OK! so you've decided to take on the menial task of installing a custom rom, to make your mytouch... well for lack of a better term, YOURS! If you've had a G1 or a Mytouch 3g in the past, as I have, then the process is much the same..
Step 1
Download your rom from the website to your computer *durrrrrr* also make sure your device is in normal operating mode, and also download the update.zip for clockwork recovery if you dont already have it from HERE
Step 2
Copy the rom and update.zip for clockwork from your computer to your phone's SD card root directory, also known as /sdcard
Step 3
Power off phone
Step 4
Power onto Fastboot mode with Volume Down button and Power
Step 5
Get into recovery mode by pressing volume down once fastboot loads, and then power to select
Step 6
Once in recovery basic mode, where you see the triangle with red exclamation, hold volume up and press power again
Step 7
While in recovery mode, hit volume down to get to apply update.zip which will put you in clockwork recovery as long as the update.zip for clockwork recovery is on your sd card
Step 8
After applying your update.zip, you're going to scroll down to install zip from sd card using volume down button and then power to select
Step 9
Once again, go to install zip from sdcard and press power
Step 10
Select your zip in the menu, then press power
Step 11
Wait for zip to install and hope to hell the zip is signed correctly and not damaged
Step 12
After zip installs, back out to main menu and reboot phone!
Step 13
Wait for Rom to load 100%.. WATCH YOUR LOGCAT TO VERIFY NO BOOTLOOPS!!!
Done!!
If you download "QuickBoot" from the market you can boot directly to "Recovery" bypassing the bootloader.
Re: [how-to] put a custom rom on your slide!!!
I'm assuming this is a tutorial for future rom releases, correct?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using Tapatalk
well there's already 2 out at this time, with slideroot2 and the legend rom.. there will be tons more, i'm sure.. so yeah, this is a generalized install procedure for such things
I like the addition of the ADB & logcat steps! Nice touch, man...
heh thanks i want users to be able to see what they did and begin to learn how to fix future mistakes lol
I love the legend ROM but I needed the keyboard one night so I switched to slidemeroot2.
Any chance for Keyboard lights coming?
Also, couldn't load titanium backup in the legend. Any suggestions there?
to get titanium to load right, you have to install a different superuser.apk than the one that's stock. i dunno why exactly. also, legend is a BETA so it'll be updated soon by eugene, it is by no means a final version
Thank you. It is a pretty sweet beta.
Hate to state the obvious, but you should mention that this requires your MT3G Slide to be rooted... you know peeps will come out the wood works asking "why cant I do this!"

Does this mean that I don't have to root first to flash roms? Can i boot to recovery and flash to eugene's already rooted rom?
once you downgrade to the eng build, you can flash any rom for the slide... you have to root and then flash that downgrade though before you can do anything to it
When will a permanent recovery flash come available? Only a minor inconvenience since it only is two extra steps using the stock recovery... well three including copying the update.zip over.
whenever the spl comes, is when it comes i dont have a date/time for ya, devs are working on it... i know one in particular made a bit of progress yesterday, so we'll see what happens when it happens
Ok, I tried to install the SlideM ROM and and ran into an issue I'm not really sure how to fix.
I followed your video and instructions to the letter but on reboot the phone stopped at the first T-Mobile flash screen and froze. Using adb devices I come up with this;
C:\androidsdk\tools>adb devices
List of devices attached
HT069PS00585 offline
HT069PS00585 device
C:\androidsdk\tools>adb reboot
error: more than one device and emulator
...and the phone is locked onto that first t-mobile screen. I tried adb reboot, adb reboot-bootloader and still get nothing, even tried a hard reboot by pulling the battery to get to recovery mode and re-installed starting from step 1.....really hoping I didn't brick it. Any thoughts on why it happened or how I can go about fixing it?
***UPDATE*** went back and tried a method found in another thread, i.e., wiped data using Android recovery mode instead of Clockwork recovery, then re-installed SlideM. Worked perfectly on the first try
Phone is rooted and I believe Ive got a lag fix installed.
No idea what I need to do - did a quick looksie through the JI6 thread and I didnt see anything in particular about the update ****ign up anyones phone.
EDIT: The update is called JI6 right? Whatever I got automatically from tmobile is what messed it up.
I'm having the same problem. I'm thinking its because I had the lag fix before this.
If you have the voodoo lagfix then you may have to use odin to fix things. See the instructions on the first post of the thread for Simbionix for that.
With other lagfixes you may just be able to wipe the phone. Can you still access recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I can access recovery. I really didnt want to lose things like contacts saved on my phone even though I dont give a piss about anything else. I dont think the contacts copied into SIM so I may be screwed on that.
If you had your Gmail synced, all the contacts should be on your gmail account, and it will not be wiped

Your contacts should be saved on your google account unless you disabled that.

Sweet. I dont use Google regularly so I didnt even think about the contacts syncing to it.
What is my next step? What should I do? The ODIN thing?
It's a google phone, but u denied to use google service frequently, then you deserve the punishment
Just kidding. I think Odin is the only solution here. And don't forget to use google service after getting your phone back from death =D

Hi,
The same thing happened to me.
I pushed bionix 1.6 to sdcard with adb.
Then flashed it with clockwork.
I am up again.
What a tmobile nighmare.
to disable vodoo lagfix
A quick and easy way to disable voodoo lagfix, is to just create a file or a folder inside of the voodoo folder called "disable lagfix". Worked for me, hopefully this helps.
same thing happened to me. The update was waiting for me when i woke up, so i hit the damn button without thinking about it (i had one eye open!!).. now i have a nice "vibrant" screen.. oi. Simply wiping the phone does nothing, so Im going to try the 2.2 to 2.1 fix.. here goes nuthin..
Same thing here. I had a lag fix (not the voodoo one) and a GPS fix. Not sure which solution to go with. I'll wait for some more replies with simple and easy fixes to appear.
EDIT: I was able to reboot holding power and volume buttons and got it to ClockWork recovery. I guess my next step at this menu would be to "install zip from sdcard" but how would I go about getting the Bionix_6_stock.zip file onto my SD card?
you'll be fine
take out battery and hold power up/down buttonswithe buttons pressed insert battery. you should see Vibrant logo once continue to hold once it goes blank then let go of all exept down button you should be in stock recovery now if you had clockwork recovery press reinstall packages you should now by in clockwork recovery if so flash again or flash some thing else hopefully a nandroid back up... good luck but you problem does not seem that serious keep at you'll be fine

Do you have adb setup? If so, put the bionix ROM in the tools folder of your SDK & type:
adb push *file directory/file name* /sdcard
GL, please update.

Hmmm I think I remember about this other way to boot up where you can push stuff to the phone. How do I do that again? I have only been able to get to the Clockwork Recovery screen and need to get the Bionix zip file from my PC to the Vibrant using ADB which yes I have and it did work a while ago. I just forgot how to boot in that mode. Thanks!
I'm stuck as well. One small difference. I DO NOT have a lag fix installed. I uninstalled the One Click Lag Fix yesterday in preparation for the update.
Well, let me rephrase. The App is installed on the phone but the fix is not applied.
Any thoughts?
Side note. My screen has some how gotten scratched recently and I'm curious if this is a possible way to get a new screen (and phone) from Tmobile. The phone is rooted and I have a GPS fix applied but that's it.
EDIT: I wanted to add, while booting, the Vibrant screen obviously comes up but after a few seconds, the TMobile jingle STARTS to play. It quickly goes quiet and then continues to sit at the Vibrant screen.
Long time lurker, first time posting.
Stuck as well, I am rooted but stock otherwise. Only items installed are:
Vibrant-JI2-GPS.zip
signed-mobileap.vibrant.zip
Any help is appreciated
EDIT:Was able to push Bionix 1.6 through ADB and Flash with Clockwork Recovery. Back Up and Going!

I'm sort of in the same boat. Rooted, but haven't installed any of the lag fixes or gps fixes. I don't have clockwork installed. Is there any way for me to download the OTA to my SD card and try flashing it that way?
This sucks
FYI. I had the same problems as the original OP, getting stuck at the boot screen after the update, due to having lag fix enabled. I finally got the true stock 2.1 firmware installed via ODIN. I've called T-Mobile requesting they push the update again and was told to do the following to send a message to google to have them push the update to my phone. It's been 30 minutes and nothing yet but I'm crossing my fingers. For the guys who haven't received the OTA update yet give this a shot.
Dial *#*#2432546#*#*6
One you complete the sequence all the numbers and characters should disappear leaving your dialer blank. Then you just sit and wait for the message to update your firmware. Hope this works!
I, an ignorant vibrant user eager to break into the world of ROMS, finally and successfully rooted my phone with the one click root.
One Click Lagfix from the marketplace immediately thereafter. Phone was blazing fast.
I decided to push my stupid limits. I tried to download and install Eugene's Vibrant Hybrid final ROM that would give me glorious, stock android. I followed the instructions I found for "installing a ROM":
Copy the zip to the root.
Boot into recovery.
Go into clockwork recovery.
factory reset.
install zip from sd card.
after that's done, reboot.
I got a little chimy, should-be-startup noise, (not the standard vibrant start-up noise, but what I expect would be the new ROM start-up noise I downloaded) and then nothing. Just the Vibrant screen.
I can boot into recovery mode, but I don't know what to do next. I tried to find the backup I made on Clockwork, but it was NOT THERE. I am now panicking and trying not to do anything stupid to my phone.
read on Eugene's site that it could be that I don't have the correct kernel flashed to support the ROM...? At this point, I kind of just want my phone back while having to lose the least amount of data. Please Help.
and before I tried installing the ROM, I used the one-click lag fix from the market on my already rooted phone.
Thanks!
james
Did you disable the lag fix before flashing?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
no, didn't realize that it would be an issue until after flashing the ROM. I think I'm stuck in a boot loop... and I have access to a mac only at the moment. Tomorrow I'll have access to a PC if ODIN could help at all...
Search for "froyo that doesnt brick your phone" flash if with odin and after that flash back to stock.

Will this restore my data and settings...?? What will I lose?
In a weird. Everything. Unless you made an external backup. Eugene's will wipe the phone.
Sorry bud

its just a simple user error. Honestly imo opinion, if you are using the lagfix option found on the market, flashing to other roms reformats /data and /system and such undoing it. So thats not where your issue came from the flashing. Before the flash, if you were on stock jdf, the flashing the hybrid final rom didnt update your baseband/modem.bin and i am pretty sure that would put you in your situation. Possible situation number 2. You had the ota update on your phone already. Meaning you were running ji6 then the rom update.zip may have been corrupted or incomplete.
to fix either one of these situations is simple. As long as the answer to my next question is a hell no. Did you flash jacs xmod voodoo kernel after you flash the hybrid rom?? The faster you reply to this the faster i can get to to a solution. You will also need a computer that has adb installed and properly recognizing your phone.
IF YOU DID FLASH THE VOODOO LAGFIX YOU WILL NEED ACCESS TO A COMPUTER WITH ODIN AND ANDROID SDK!! WETHER IT BE A MAC WITH PARRELLS OR A VM OR LINIX OR WINDOWS.

That is not true. Anything on his internal memory will be perfectly intact. And if he can still get into cwm recovery, he adb push a few files to the root of his sd card and boot right up depending the cause

I didn't flash **** after that. Just the Hybrid mod, then I was stuck. The steps I mentioned in my process were the only things that ever ever happened.
also, yes, I (was) running JI6 as well. Until this fiasco.
Eugene's thread for the hybrid mod also has files posted for, quote, "reboots and freezes" with the file name JFDkernanmodemji2.zip. All things that have been mentioned positively at one point or another in this thread. Since I am pretty sure I don't have the appropriate kernel to run the ROM, do I simply push the JFDkernanmodemji2.zip file to my root, flash it, then flash the ROM again and life will be good?

Push pppuuuuush..baby deliveried yet?? An update on steps by steps?
Currently I have a rooted Sensation.
I tried to install a theme using Rom Manager.
It said it installed successfully.
I reboot.
And when I boot up everything is weird. The drop shadow on all windows is green.
The Desktop isn't showing at all.
I can select applications from the locked menu. (Before I unlock) Like camera, mail etc.
Any thoughts on what might be wrong and how to fix?
Themes may require you to have a de-odexed rom. Is the rom you have odexed or de-odexed?
Either that, or you downloaded a bad file. Re-download and install again to see if it works.

I don't know what odexed means.
I have tried to install it again.
And maybe I should mention that I installed it through bootloader? Recovery or what it is called.
I saw that you were able to install other themes simply using the apk file. But this one required you to install it through recovery.
Currently I am able to take photos and call people. There's no home screen.
When I try to view messages I get an error.
Is there any way I can like reset it to before I installed the theme? I was told to back it up before installing the theme, which I didn't do. Any other way to fix this?
Check out this thread. It will help you get back to a stock rom, since you never made a backup.
I would strongly advise to to backup up everything before you start messing around. That way you have a backup to fall back on in case something like this issue happens.
When I first started messing around with root and custom roms, I never did a nandroid, and the phone was bootlooping. So I had to start over from scratch.

Tried Method 2 of debranding since it was the easiest one. Made no difference.
Trying Method 1 right now. Will report back with progress.
Just realized that I am not able to use Method 1 since it requires me to have USB Disk Drive mounted, which I can only do from recovery mode. And since I did not remove the image file it now constantly asks me if I want to update in HBOOT. So I can't really get past it.
If I update, it updates and reboots. If I click cancel it reboots.
What should I do?

I said to run a RUU. It stands for Rom Utility Update. This is an executable program that you can run from the PC to your phone. It will take an image that was made specifically for your phone and flash over what you currently have, and once it's done and you power your phone on, it should look like you just took the phone out of the box. Download the RUU that matches your phone to the PC. Be sure that you pick the right one. Run the RUU on your PC. It will instruct you what to do as far as plugging your phone to the PC, when to turn it on/off, etc.
Once the program finishes, your phone should be reset, stocked, and back to normal.

I'm glad you got it working. Just have some patience if you run into problems.
Okay folks, I am at oss and need to know if I am just flat out screwed or if maybe, just
Maybe I might have a shot at storing my EVO 3d. I was running meanrom. Everything was running smoothly but I decided to give ViperROM a shot. So I d a wipe, rebooted into recovery and flashed ViperROM. Initially I thought everything had gone according to plan until I realized something was amiss when I attempted to start 4g. 4g wouldn't start. I did some looking into and came to tonclusion that because as far as I could tell because I had been running meanrom when I flashed viper the kernel no longer stock was not compatible with viper. So I started flash image GUI, found stockkernel.zip on my sd card and flashed or so I thought the stock kernel in hopes that after I did then the 4g would work on ViperROM. Well I was mistaken. When the phone rebooted, after the initial HTC screen rather than next seeing the ViperROM boot animation my screen went black. It remained there laughing at me till the phone automatically rebooted and then once again went to a darn black screen. It seems my phone is stuck in an endless loop. HTC screen, black scree reboot, HTC... Ect. I then booted into recovery wiped again and tried to then just reinstall meanrom. Well, according twrp recovery the installation went smoothly but after HTC screen, my phone goes straight to black screen. Ive tried various variations of reinstallations and nothing has worked so far. Am I stuck like this or is there something that can be done. Any pointers or suggestions would be more than appreciated

Follow the steps:
Copy the img file of the recovery you are using to the fastboot/adb folder (folder which you have used to unlock the bootloader).
1.Now boot your phone in bootloader
2.Select Fastboot and connect to PC.(phone should say "fastboot-usb")
3.now open command prompt and navigate to your fastboot folder.
4.Type "fastboot boot <recovery name>.img". Your recovery should boot now.
5.Wipe everything , and install any ROM you want.
6.Then reboot your phone as normal and your problem should be solved.
7.If you get stuck at HTC screen or that black screen , just open the zip file of the ROM that you've just flashed and copy the boot.img file to your fastboot/adb folder > then boot your phone into bootloader > select fastboot > connect to PC > in command prompt type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" > then reboot.
Hope this helps........
Did you make a nand backup before you flashed vipers rom? Or do what he said ^^^^^^^
Did you look in the meanrom folder on ur SD card. Inside of there is the stock kernel. Second try to flash cleanROM and see if that helps. And if that doesn't work, look for the modifiedsuperwipe.zip. if all else fails..... I had the boot loop a while a go. All I did was flash the modifiedsuperwipe.zip and then flashed the ROM of choice and i was good to go. Hope this helps a lil
I'm stumped
So I did the modified wipe. I thought it was going to be smooth sailing well, I plugged in the phone and went to fast boot tried sending my phone a command line but it hangs on waiting for device. So now I'm stuck wondering wtf. No go on fastboot commands for now that is unless someone has an idea on that. Is there a way to perhaps browse root from recovery and transfer the boot image from my sd card to the folder in needs to. Go to? Or can I mount as a usb storage device and move the boot.img file to where it needs to go from the computer. I'm so desperate to fix this issue without surrendering to defeat and bringing it somewhere for someone else to do it. Hell I probably can't afford it if I have to. Whelp, if you have any thoughts I'm grateful. Thanks for the assistance thus far fellas. When bootloader loads it says I believe loading PG86DIAG.zip no image found if that means any more to any of you. I also tried reinstalling meanrom. I booted into recovery via hold power +. Volume up then choose recovery. Twrp loads. Choose meanrom zip flash image. According to twrp this goes down swell with not a problem but when I boot to system still I get the black screen. It mocks me still.
oh yes. Probably worth mentioning. Today I was working from a bit installation of windows. It was a pain on the as o get the adb drivers workingnet but finally found something called pdapal installed it and it got things squared away or so I thought on the windows drivers side of things. So in device manager there are no errors and it says the android device is working properly now alert symbols over the driver or anything but still can't get the phone to accept fastboot commands.

4ext has kernel flashing for hboot 1.5 works good i am no good with hboot i got lucky i got soff in 1.5 look into 4ext its a good recovery
Thanks
I've got twrp flashed fine. However my phone won't respond to commands while in fastboot from the command prompt. It says waiting for device and never responds. Is there a possibility that usb debugging is not working. Is there a way to the? this on from recovery if you needed. I'm not nt intimidated by advanced procedures Im an analyst programmer and am stuck doing super boring things most of the day. I can't believe I'm being thrown a curve ball like this. I'm definitely humbled. Just saying that anything you throw out there Ide be willing to give a shot at this point.

Are you sure you are accessing fastboot from bootloader ? By your words, it seems like you are checking fast boot in settings> power
Does the bootloader say fastboot-usb? If not select it and press power.

Still Trying
Yeah, I'm definitely in fastboot through bootloader. Yes it says fastboot usb. I think despite the fact that it says drivers are installed properly in device manager there might still be some kind of driver issue. I'm away from home and don't have access to. My usual computers? I'm stuck on an installation of windows 7 64bit. Originally I was having issues getting the right drivers installed and so I installed pda net and that seemed to solve the issue in device manager but I'm still having issues. If there's some recovery I could flash which would allow me toove boot.img to the right path manually that might be a way I could solve this. Hell, I'll give anything a try. So that's where I am so far. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong or where I might go from here?
hboot 1.5 s-on
I've got the same specs as you save the rom and kernel. @ itzloltraim.
I did try flashing clockwork mod using rom manager before my phone started having issues but even though rom manager said it flashed when I booted to recovery next twrp was still there. Is there somewhere I can download a flashable zip from? I couldn't find one last time I looked. From what I remember the Dev Site Links to rommanager to get it. If you have a link that would be a help.
Questions
Hboot?
Base?
Have you tried flashing clockworkmod?

That plus what is he doing rooting or trying to flash a recovery?
Yea, I have the same problem...
I was running MeanROM4.1 with the dodava kernel. Being an idiot I flashed the new Anthrax kernel and now my phone gives me a black screen. When the phone starts up, theres no lock ring. Ive been trying to flash another kernel but i dont seem to be doing it properly. im using 4ext as recovery.
Im currently performing a Superwipe then factory reset. Ill reply with my findings. Good thing I backed up at MeanROM3.91, but if I cant get my screen to work...shall I assume bricked?
**problem solved. I flashed a kernel using the fastboot method. Someone posted it and it worked fine for me.**
