PC connecting as CD rom instead of SD card - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

why is Fascinate connecting to PC as CD rom instead of SD card (again). Thought this was 'fixed' awhile back.

Your drivers probably didn't install correctly. Happened to me. My phone worked fine but wifes came up as cd rom. Ran the install drivers and hooked up phone. Had to wait a while so everything installed then would recognize after I enabled usb data storage on the phone. Make sure you wait a while before turning usb on.

Are you mounting from cwm recovery or while the phone is on? Also, a friendly reminder, this belongs in Q/A.

while phone is on
someone in irc advised me to reboot while connected to pc and that made it work now, but used to work fine.
can a mod move to q and a?

I guarantee it has to do with the ED03!
Once i updated to that, it started happening to me too as well.

I am on windows 8. how do I view the SG3 sd card files?
Thanks!!!
Use the popular SGS3 UMS App.
Ext SD Card reading is supported, you can't move files through internal sd card and Pc.
Use bluetooth for that.
I've had the same problem many times after changing and testing new ROM's.
You can restart your computer and phone - has worked for me before.
Change ROM - this has worked for me, seemed like a particular ROM didn't like my PC setup / drivers whatever and refused to connect!
Change cable - they don't last that long, I've had to replace 4-5 since my HTC Desire days - all that plugging and unplugging can bust them - they always still charged, but no PC connection.
Try a different USB port - You never know!
Uninstall the drivers on your PC for your S3 - reinstall - use the SDK drivers - or from KIES. I seen users report that the change between a ICS ROM and a JB ROM and vice versa can cause issues, not sure if applies to you.

Go into TWRP and adb push a rom.
There is also USB storage under mounts.

can someone tell me how i can push a file in adb
You could always go back to stock ATT firmware. Download the LGNPST and the firmware and then put your phone into download mode and flash it. This will overwrite your recovery with stock stuff but at least you will have something running so you can start over.

I was looking into that but adb seems a lot easier. just push a rom onto the phone and flash it right there. Ill see how that works out

If you have an OTG cable you can also load a ROM onto a USB flash drive and connect it to your phone via the OTG cable. TWRP will need to be set to "External SD" in order to see it. I had to do that with my Nexus 7 when I did something similar.
Edit: Duh, I'm an idiot. It would be far easier to unmount your microSD card with TWRP, take it out of your phone, put it in a SD adapter, then load the ROM to the card from your PC, put it back in your phone, remount it in TWRP and then set it to "External SD" to flash the ROM. Provided you don't have an OTG cable, but do have a SD adapter.

Dude, all you have to do is mount your storage, download which ever Rom u want on your computer and transfer it to your phone. Then do the wipes and flash the rom.
i did that once, thats y i keep copies of my fave roms on my extSD, twrp can read from the extSD and flash from that. i've done nocturnal and slick from flashed from my extSD not internal and it worked just fine, if u prefer tho twrp can copy the file to the internal storage and u can flash that. if u dont have any roms on ur extSD just plug that into the comp and copy a rom to it then restart in recovery and flash away...same idea as baron but using the extSD instead of mounting storage and plugging the phone into the computer

NT/USB CONNECT: MTP then USB COMPOSITE then NT but no joy!!

I've had this problem for a while (not being able to connect my NT to my computer) and can't seem to resolve it. I happened to have to upgrade my hard drive and hoped the clean install of XP would fix it but it didn't!
When I connect my NT to the computer via USB (running Paranoid Android 3.01 off 32GB class 4 Sandisk SD card, and yes, I have USB Debugging enabled) I get the following:
The NT is recognized as the following devices, in this order:
MTP
Composite USB
Nook Tablet
The hardware installer opens after each "device" is recognized. Finally I get to Nook Tablet after cancelling the two previous hardware install requests but a third pops up and then I get a message that there was a problem with the installation!
I had been able to fix this problem previously by running usbdview and uninstalling each device, then deleting the device drive letter assignment, and finally running my Norton 360 Registry Cleanup Utility. But, now, that just isn't working!
I surmised that I was having a problem with the drivers. So, I surfed the web and found the USB Driver Zip file from Indirect's OP on rooting and installed them on my computer again. No luck.
I managed to get into a log file (don't ask me what it was called, I forgot) that was in the WINDOWS/DRIVERS/i386 folder. It mentioned a paging error occurred during the process of attempting to connect the NT to the computer. Does this mean my SD card is bad? I have had no problems using it to run the PA ROM on my NT, at all. From what I read however, that I could try to understand, a paging error has something to do with a problem with the SD card? Certainly I can just reinstall the ROM, in another card if necessary, or load a new one. However, I'd like to be able to get my content off the card without having to drop box all the files to myself (a decent but slow workaround).
I know I could try to use ADB over my wireless connection somehow to achieve this as well, but that is over my head right now.
Any suggestions regarding what is going on here would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

It's not clear from your post if you're merely try to connect the NT to your PC via USB for media content transfer, or for ADB access.
If the latter, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35971559&postcount=13 might be of help.
Oops, sorry. Just for content access/transfer.
Actually tonight my device seemed to reboot while I was in the middle of composing a document (data viz word). It's never done THAT before. Interestingly, it seemed to skip cyanoboot and go right to the SD ROM. The WiFi needed to be manually connected thereafter (usually auto connects). The reason I think it rebooted and it wasn't the screen flaking out as a problem is it went black and then right to the first animation for PA 3.01. But this seems to make no sense!
Maybe the SD card IS failing?
Yes, I am trying to avoid having to learn ADB access. Too tired (you know why Digi.) If I must, I will shell out for a new card and maybe try one of your newer ROMS......it's probably time for that anyway. But the card is only 6 months old
I will test out trying to access the NT on the computer via USB without the SD card mounted. Maybe that will shed some light.
Thanks as always.

[VZW] [GS4] simple question SD card I don't know

Background - I'm working on rooting my 32gb GS4 and was told to put some files on my SD card.
I got the Samsung class 10 64gb card and it the phone recognizes it fine
It did not come with an adapter for my PC, so I'm wondering how I put some files on the SD card for the phone
(like my license for titanium backup)
Do I do this through the phone when it is hooked up to my PC? (I did not see the SD card when it opened the phone as a folder)
Do I need an adapter for the microSD card? I have an old adapter for a 1gb card I got like 7 years ago, but will that even work?
Thank you for your help and suggestions.

That white cord you use to charge your phone . . that is used to transfer data to your phone too. There should be no problem seeing both internal and sdcard, at least I never have. But I installed the Samsung drivers like right away, so maybe that is why though I doubt it.

OK, I'll try installing the updated drivers and check back.
[note Windows 8] What happened when I plugged the phone in it says it can update the phone or I can view it as a folder. I viewed it as a folder then after about one minute the phone shuts down and it looses the folder. While I was in the folder, it did not show the SD card.
I did not update because I want to avoid the phone updating the ME7 like the plague.
Thank you very much for your help.

OK, I got the updated drivers but I didn't instal them yet. I had installed drivers previously.
I tried out putting it in developer mode, did not work. When I was reading the guides on the drivers and adb and fast tools, it suggested using download mode (slow downloads at the links included and I could only get one per hour). I tried booting it in download mode and then it still did not work. I shut it down and saw a weird thing I have not seen before with a power level meter (its OK). I powered it back up (while plugged in) and finally it recognized the device as a disk and I got the phone and the card. I put the files on it (it did not want to put the .txt file on there) and I unplugged it. It was odd because this time the phone shut down, but the drive stayed active.
I don't know if it will repeat or not, but I'm just glad I got those things on right away.
Thank you for your help, without reading about how to instal the drivers on a PC, I would not have figured it out. [even though I already installed the drivers]

Noob mistake. Wiped data in TWRP - Including the OS

My G3 is a blank slate right now.
I put the SD card into my PC and downloaded the CM12 file and the Gapps file. Now with it back in the phone I can't find them. I click install > External Sd > nothing there.
Under "mount" it wont let me click the SD card.
Where do I start?
I would plug the phone in and reflash back stock and start over. But u could try mounting the the phone as usb storage and dl the files directly to it thn search for them on the internal storage since it wont connect to the sd.

Plug it into where and reflash it how? You have to ELI5. I'm reformatting my SD card now to see if it will recognize it.
Wow. I really had to go through some trial and error there. I spend the last few hours trying to get the ADB side loading to work. Trying ever driver known to man. I kept getting the no devices message. There was a specific order that it had to be done in order for it to be recognizing the device at the time of loading. Enable mtp > adp > plug in > side load.
I'm up and running CM12 now. And I'm ready for bed!
Since you have twrp installed, why not just get an SD card and put a ROM on it and flash? Seems like the easy way to me.
For future reference, was the phone recognized by adb when in TWRP? If so, did you try to push any files to the internal storage?
I did that once I just flashed a tot file then just rerooted I couldn't connect phone back with adb or anything
