[Q] contacts import Q to and then from Simcard? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
This one is bit more complicated firstly i have some old contacts on my simcard which i would like to delete so the question
1) How do i delete all my contacts from the simcard?
2) how do i import contacts from google account to the phone memory?
the reason i want to do the above is because of my Parrot bluetooth car kit which requires the contacts to be on the phone memory before it can access it, it wont access contacts stored on google account etc.
I already have the contacts stored locally as a .CSV windows and google file.

Hi,

How to covert 'phone' contacts to Google contacts...

The majority of my contacts are phone contacts, is there anyway I can convert them to Google contacts so they sync with Google?
I had this dilemma yesterday. I'm hope you have Outlook. what you can do is sync you contacts with the HTC sync with outlook. then save your contacts by exporting them to CSV file. You can then import this phone to your web gmail account. Delete all your phone contacts and then sync your Google contacts by going to settings > data sync > Google > menu > sync now. I hope this helps
Damn, I don't have Outlook, there must be another way surely...
The only other way is to save to SIM and then import it from the SIM card. Only thing bad about that is that any facebook link will be lost mate.
Use ExportContacts, edit (if needed) the *.csv file to fit Google's importing rules (check this topic for reference), import the file to Google Contacts via PC and synchronize.
Or search for ContactSync in the market that will convert your phone contacts to Google ones. but try this if the above method does not work.

I would trully NOT recommend that. I've tried it and as it may have seen, all the contacts have been converted do "Google" type, but non of them actually synced with Google Contacts. At least that's what happened on my Hero.

I got the same results. They tried to sync, but I got a force close-msg. Had to delete all the changed contacts for it to work again
Question: How do you actually know which contacts are Google ones and which are not. In my virtually all my contacts are Google ones but there are the odd ones that are phone contacts and I'm trying to find them so I can convert them.
when you look in people they say what they are to the right of the name......
use 'Export Contacts" (contacts, contacts tab, menu, more, import/export) to send the file to your sd card as a vcf file. then go back to the same place and import them into a google account instead of phone.
What i did is, i exported my contacts on Outlook, and then went my google page > contacts > Import contacts.
I imported the file, and deleted all my contacts on phone.
Now im syncing my google contacts to phone

Contact transfering from Mogul to hero

I got my hero yesterday, and i am trying to transfer my contacts and sms etc from my mogul to the hero but to no avail, the sync cable connecter from my mogul is broke and I am having problems pairing the two phones via bluetooth, can anyone offer any help
also, I am looking for an app to mass transfer contacts via bluetooth, I don't want to do them manually I have approx 1500 contacts
Android doesn't currently support OBEX file transfers via Bluetooth.
You could try this app as it says that it can do this, and does not require root - I'm sceptical however.

check out sprite migrate http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
And it's free
You can setup winmo to sync contacts with gmail. Just remember to backup first, in case something goes awry
http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138652
Then just sync with your hero
You can also use TBexport (search the whole forum for TBexport.zip) to convert your contacts to a *.csv file and import that into either:
1) Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows mail and synch to the Hero with the HTC Synch software or
2) import the contacts into gmail at the web page.
I recommend importing them ot Outlook or Outlook Express. When I did this with my wife's new Hero, many of the gmail imported contacts treated the phone numbers as notes. She had to go through about 200 contacts and transfer the phone numbers into the correct field.

[Q] Copying contacts between accounts from the android device

Hi,
Before you continue reading, this is not a question about moving contacts from one android device to another, or from an iPhone to an android (or viceversa)!!
This is my scenario: I've got my android tablet (the asus transformer) and I have 3 accounts set up there, 2 are gmail accounts (say, account A and account B) and a third corporate account (exchange activesync, call it account C)
I used account B when I was in my last job and have a lot of business contacts there. What I want to do is to have a simple way of copying some of these business contacts over to the exchange account (account C). I also would like to copy a couple from account A (personal stuff) into account C.
Any ideas? Thanks
Have you tried to export the contacts you want from the web interface of gmail?
You can select the contacts you want and export them in CSV for outlook or in vcard. I'm not familiar with Exchange but it must have some import function in a desktop client or web interface, at least of vcard.

You know, that is exactly what I don't want to end up doing because it's a waste of time.
Fortunately I found an app in the market named Contacts Copy which did exactly what I wanted to do! The interface is a bit clunky but it does the job.
Sorry for reanimation of an old thread!
But I'm facing the same problem! Is there any progress?
I was hoping, newer android versions would implement such a (simple?) function - moving a contact from one account to another doesn't seem to be so sophisticated if one has a whole synchronisation framework at hand!
Is there any contact manager out there, providing such functionality?
Thanks!
Same problem here...
I'm struggling with the same thing - I tried Contacts Copy but it just seemed to do import and export and you needed to enter a phone number. Not sure why it needs my phone number so I didn't really trust it. Anyway, if someone has had some luck I'd appreciate the help.
Just to reiterate the issue, I have an Exchange work account (a) and a gmail account (b) on my phone. I can access my works contacts database from my phone and save contacts, but they're linked to the Exchange account. I want to be able to get them from (a) to (b) simply on my phone, rather than needing to export a CSV from Outlook and upload to Gmail.

It does it !!
Only one thing is missing - search.
Also it joins original contact to copy in another account and can update existing.
Was sending contacts to myself by SMS/e-mail before.

[Q] No Contact Names in Stock Messaging App

Hi,
Since I updated my SGS2 to 4.0.3, I can't see the contact names in the stock messaging app. It seems that there is no sync to my contacts. But, and that's the strange part, not all names are gone. A few of my contacts are shown.
Any advice?
Multiple scenarios....
You saved you're contacts on phone and did not sync with Google. So after upgrading to ics they are wiped.
You didn't signed in to google or sync is not active for contacts
contacts you are seeing are from your Sim, and you didn't signed in to google or didn't synced.
Atifsh you are the greatest!
My contacts weren't synced with google. That wasn't the problem but I suppose it can't hurt. After that I realized that all my contact are neither on my SIM nore on my phone. They existed in the nether ^^. What I did to solve my problem was:
1. Export all my contacts to USB Storage
2. Import all contacts from USB Storage to my phone.
3. Profit
thank you for the hint Atifsh.

[Q] contact app for phone contacts? (non-google contacts?)

hi
Is there a way to create normal phone contacts that are not "google contacts" ?
It seems that in 4.2.2 you always have to have contacts linked to accounts, and therefore either create a google account or exchange email account...
And I also searched some time, but did not find a satisfying application that can backup contacts to excel and reinsert them... why always passing by google or sending it by email?
Is there maybe also an alternative contact application (compared to the standard android one)?
any help would be appreciated
Because syncing it with Google is the easier way including backup.
You can still save contacts on your phone or sim though and export to csv or whatever should be there no?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Go contacts can do this. Use local phone to store contacts only, export to csv format..
