any other way to task 29????? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok the micro usb on my phone doesnt work at all so i cant hook it to the pc,
someone please tell me that i can still task 29 my phone in some way with no usb pretty please??????

I dont think its possible, sorry.
On the other hand..... why the desperate need to task29?
I know a lot of people swear by it but I've had my HD2 since launch and never used it, flashed numerous winmo roms, WP7, Android to NAND and never experienced any issues that have made me think "hmmm task29 would sort this"....
I think its a bit of a placebo if Im honest.
Just my 2 cents......

The only way to do task 29 in your situation is by flashing Correct Stock ROM via Micro SD Card.
All Stock ROM will perform Task 29 before it flashing. But, you will end up with the Stock ROM
Have you tried your friend's PC?

If you task29 you're going to have to connect to your computer to flash a new rom, so how are you going to do that?
Does your phone charge or is the whole usb hardware fried?
My original HTC USB cord allows me to charge most of the time but does not allow the phone to establish a connection to a pc, replaced it with a new Belkin cord and everything works fine. Are you sure it's the phone that doesn't work?

[Q] PC doesn't recognize Samsung Vibrant

T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, unrooted, running 2.1 with TouchWhiz.
Recently, my PC worstation stopped recognizing the phone when I plug in the USB cable. The phone battery will still recharge.
I've tried another cable, same result.
I'm wondering if the connector on the phone has gone bad? Any ideas?
I checked the other threads and didn't find an answer.
Thank you!

While it is possible, it's not likely.
What exactly do you mean when you say it's not recognized?
Is USB Debugging enabled?
Have you tested with adb?
Have you tested with another computer?
Have you tested with another rom/kernel?
Almost all the time, USB connectivity issues can be solved by troubleshooting and eliminating possiblities through trial and error. Unfortunately there are many many factors involved since you have software and hardware of two devices as well as the cable itself involved.

Is the phone Rooted? What kind of phone is it? I'll assume it has an SD Card. If the phone is Rooted. Do you have a Custom Recovery installed? Such as Clowork Mod. You do not need USB to flash a Rom. You do need a Recovery installed. Pull the SD Card, put the Rom on the Root of your SD Card. Boot into Recovery, do a full wipe. Then flash the Rom.

You said your in USB Debugging mode. Go into Menu-Settings-Applications-development, make sure it's checked. Didn't find any custom Recovery for the device. I did find Unlock Root that says it will root the device. Link is below.

uhmm okie will try to buy a new USB cable to try it out going to look for someone heading to south korea lol )) and how come if the USB is broken how come it still charges the phone's battery?
You should be able to find the USB Cable you need here in the states, or online. Unless it's something really strange. The cacle will still charge the device, because that does not put much demand on the cable. But if it's transfering data, and it's frayed, or damaged in anyway it will not work.

yup it needed a usb cable with 20 pins which is very hard to find here in the Philippines because most phones use here are only the popular ones which has only less than 20 pins in the teeth of the usb cable
Then it's most likely better to just get it from the manufacturer.

Root without a PC?

Hey guys.
My girlfriends Galaxy S 2 won't even recognize it's plugged into my laptop, yet it will charge.
Now it's no deal at all as she never plugs it into a PC anyway, I just transfer stuff bluetooth.
But I want to put a custom ROM on it to get rid of all the carrier bull****, but being un-able to connect to a PC, how can I root it and install one using just the handset itself?
Please help me?

Not possible imho without pc, uninstall and reinstall Kies or the usb drivers for connection. Disable usb debugging.
Oh ok, bugger. And I've tried doing that, doesn't seem to work.
The phone doesn't even come up that it's plugged in. Nothing.
search in the development section
there was a method to root ics without flashing anything from pc
I have but can't find anything.

Is the S2 already running ICS firmware? If so you can easily root using the method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Just put the two linked files on your internal sd (either transfer then via bluetooth or directly download from your phone through the browser) and follow the instructions, literally a 2 minute job.
Yeah seen that, but it's not ICS

Nope no go, just did that. KIES just says please connect a device
My galaxy Nexus connects up fine, just not her Galaxy S 2 yet it will charge fine. Dunno why.
EDIT: I take that back, left it plugged in and now it's making weird noises and sayings installing device driver software.
Sorry somebody else had posted my way of doing it
Just to eliminate another option have you tried cleaning the USB port on the phone, I have seen quite a few posts here and there saying that it has helped
dj_sploits said:
If you are on a stock ICS ROM then you could always get the files for CF-Root. You pop them on your SD card and then you root your device from the phone itself. After that you could send the custom roms over to the SD card and install them that way? No PC needed
I'm sure this way works but if not hopefully somebody will correct me

Not possible, you have no cwm to flash it with, sammy`s 3rd recovery doesn`t allow flashing custom software. You need to have cwm.
---------- Post added at 09:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 AM ----------
You could try another usb port
Now WTF.
I rooted it, used Rom Manager to flash CWM and it's still the stock one.
Why isn't my phone this ***** hard.

Why are u using rom manager, it causes problems with sammy based roms. Turn off the phone, press volume up + menu +power buttom at the same time, you should get in cwm. Don`t use rom manager!
Did you try to connect on another pc? Or at least on another usb port? Windows should at least recognise that a new hardware has been plugged in

[Q] No computer recognizes my phone in either Download/USB Mount-mode

It's really weird.
I've tried it on three different computers (All Windows 7 though)
But it used to work on all three (except for when my desktop USB-ports ****ed themselves up)
I'm beginning to believe the outlet in which the USB cable goes into might be damaged.
I'm about to flash full Stock firmware, cause that's the last time I remember it working (like 3 months ago), and see if it works.
Any other tips?
Currently on WanamLite 11.4, and been flashing back and forward to Cyanogenmod using CWM flashables.
Clean phones USB port first
Second install USB drivers .

Tried installing latest stock LPD firmware, still doesnt work.
Also tried "cleaning" the USB..
Phone must be broken..

I suppose I'll have to wipe every trace of any flashing and send back to Samsung

Try cleaning the contacts between the battery and your phone.
Did you fix your problem?
If not, what exactly happens when you plug it in to your computer?
If "something" at all happens, then you may just need to switch the internal USB switch to use PDA and not MODEM in the PhoneUtils hidden menu. Make sure both USB and UART is set to use PDA!

Try this method!
If you think it is a software problem, try this:
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Duos/GT-S7562
Code:
Recovery Mode
Recovery mode can be entered by switching the device off and pressing the following buttons; VOL UP + VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER
When the phone vibrates let go of the buttons.
Note: It can take several attempts to enter recovery mode, so do not give up immediately!
After entering recovery mode, wipe the phone but beware, it will delete all the data in the internal memory. So take a backup of all your data, contacts, messages, before you do this.
After you perform wipe, reboot the phone. It will take longer than usual but after that you will be on the screen.
You can use your phone as a new phone and try charging again.
Press thanks if I have helped!

I Already Tried But With No Result
If the device is not charging properly and you know for certain that it is not an issue with the cable/charging block/etc, then most likely it is an issue with the USB port itself. Unfortunately, for that phone, the part is soldered to the motherboard and not a repair for a casual DIY tech. That said, your easiest work around will be to buy an extra battery and an external battery charger. Then you just pop in the new battery and leave the other to charge on the wall. I actually miss being able to do this (I have a Nexus) as it does not require you to be plugged into the wall, just the battery in the charger. If you need to transfer files without the port, there are numerous solutions via wifi and BT.

Ok, well then if it all works fine and is just cosmetic, your choices are to factory reset and see if it is an easy fix or to reload the OS with Odin (and reset).

That's what I figured... So, pretty sure either the port is bad, or it's a hardware (motherboard) issue. If it were only that warning on the PC, then one might think driver issue, but that combined with the charging issue, makes me think otherwise - assuming the cord works and syncs properly with other phones. You said you had already restocked the OS with Odin, but that does not seem likely due to the error on the PC. Just a hard reset does not affect /system much, so if there IS an issue with the software, a factory (hard) reset wouldn't do much. If you remove all Samsung drivers and Kies programs, reboot, and reinstall Kies (for the drivers) and you still get that message, then it's most likely hardware related.

It's not unheard of that roms can cause connection issues, but very rare on stock based roms and kernels. If the computer doesn't recognize the phone then it might be tricky to root. It's possible that you could root with an app like Framaroot and then install Mobile Odin and flash the firmware from the phone, but it depends on what build version of the software you have to which root methods are supported.
