[Q] complete noob is rooted & needs to update to 2.2 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So quite a while ago I rooted using OCLF (also applied the lag fix), and was happy until recently. My phone started going crazy...force closing everything, gallery freezing, maps freezing, battery only lasting 5 hours at the most.
Now 2.2 is out and I really want to update. I'm thinking it would be best to do a complete reset, then update via kies. A friend suggested I just flash 2.2 (friend is a T-Mobile store manager), but will that take care of all my other problems?
Either way I do it, I kinda need step by step directions on how to back up everything, connect to my PC (I've had the phone since July and still haven't connected it), then info on how to flash or update, then get my phone back to the state Where every app worked and my phone would run smoothly.
Please be nice as this is my first post, and thanks in advance for any help you can give (and yes, I've read the Vibrant Bible).

If you're rooted, download Rom Manager (market), open it. Flash cwr (first option), reboot into cwr (2nd option), select reinstall packages (twice if it reboots back to the place you were, the stock recovery).
There, now make a backup.
Reboot, download rom (suggest Trigger 3.2, though 3.3 will likely be uploaded by the time you read this). Move it to /sdcard (internal).
Go back to rom manager and select install rom from sd card.
Suggest you read my guides, signature.

[Q] Clockwork recovery won't boot.

I gained root access through superoneclick gingerbreak. It gave me the superuser app and i downloaded rom manager but whenever i try to get to clockwork recovery mode it keeps going to samsung recovery. No matter how many times I hit re-install packages it goes back to the samsung recovery. What did I do wrong? Should I have gained root another way? Should I try to flash back to 2.1? Please help I'm so frustrated.
first off dont use gingerbreak. Just odin back to stock and then root by installing the update package twice and after twice ur recovery should turn blue to green.
here follow this, use the eclair root guide:

no modded 3e recovery..so it will keep going to Stock recovery. You need to do what movie said or flash a voodoo kernel or flash a modded 3e recovery.
Interestingly enough I have the same problem, 100% rooted, super user access no issue, busy box installed, root manager installed.
I upgraded the 2.1 to 2.2 from the kies mini software.
I have been doing a ton of reading and would like to start flashing roms, etc etc.
Through titanium backup, I have un-installed a large mount of apps and have not suffered any problems as of yet, but would like to try some custom roms.
My question is, since I uninstalled alot of things, only apps that are bloatware, and since I can't get my clockwork recovery console to take affect, do I have to follow post #2?
Is this link the right one taken out of the link from post #2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Is this the final and correct link, since I do not store data on my phone, and all contacts are on my sim card, and really haven't done any customizations to anything really, can I just odin back and not back anything up? All I use my phone for is calls, txt's and internet, I don't bookmark anything, I don't save txts and call logs mean nothing to me?
I assume I will have to re-root my phone again and do the same procedures, etc etc.
Also as a side note, I am a minimalist type of person, that's why I use linux at home, no windows of any kind (I'll do this procedure at work). Any roms out there that can handle my needs of simply calls, txt'ing and internet without all the other stuff? I don't use GPS, I don't facebook or social network, I don't play games on my phone. I do need however, the use of the camera and video recorder.
Thanks.
I would just follow my advice and odin back to stock its really easy and safe to do. Well if the only apps u have left are bloatware and u dont save anything else i guess u wont need to back anything up before odin. Well the thing its alot easier to root 2.1 then 2.2.
Once ur at 2.1 just do the root process of installing update package twice and after twice ur recovery will turn from blue to green.
follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9375927
the eclair guide
heres the steps for download mode just in case:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
So, is this the right link from the guide you posted, it's amazing, I read so many things today that It's easy to get a little well, brain farty, ya know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Also, I have the kies mini drivers installed, that's how I updated from 2.1 to 2.2 so I assume those will work fine?
BTW, this is the coolest community, props to all involved!!!
Now, I edited my post I think while you were replying, any rom suggestions for a simple user who likes minimal applications but just a well running phone that's not clogged to the gills with stuff?

Yep, that seems to be the consensus, thank you
Guys,
A huge thanks, odin'd back to 2.1, rooted, removed the bloatware I didn't want, gonna make a nandroid back, then proceed on to bionix.
I can understand how first time users can get nervous but once done, the process really is not that hard, just takes patience and making sure everything is prep'd before doing so.
I hope I can now help others if you guys don't beat me to it first
My only question is this: when I create my nandroid backup, where does it go and do I need to save it somewhere just in case like a usb key or something along those lines or does it reside on the phone. Only asking cause I have not yet done this step
U can always make a extra backup and store them on ur ext sd
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Okay, so I assume the backup, made from rom manager "backup current rom" gets stored to the internal memory on the phone?
Any special settings or it just does it's thing, should be smaller than normal as I removed quite a bit of junk and stuff.
i did what you said and i still cant get into clockwork recovery screen! i went back to stock rom, reinstalled packages twice and i still have samsung recovery. i know i have root because i get the super user asking me to give clockwork root access!
So I assume you odin'd back to 2.1, rooted have installed titanimum backup and busy box, rom manager, tapped the flash clockworkmod recovery, then "reboot in recovery" choose update. I rebooted via the rom manager menu, not via the phone itself. I had to update twice immediately, didn't reboot and do it again. I saw it installing and it kinda hung, then used the volume down to update again, and was completed.
Also after installing titanium there was an update for super user, which I also installed as well. Did you do this? Not sure if it has any bearing but thought it was worth mentioning.
It worked seamlessly for me, I had to update twice, then purple turned to green and all is well.
Can you post your steps you took to get back to 2.1, how you rooted, etc etc?
It's kinda fresh in my mind as I only did it about 2 hours ago.
my screw up after i flashed clockwork and rebooted i didnt apply package. all is good now. thx for all the info!
Anytime, I found the process to be quite interesting and taught me alot and also removed my fear of installing new roms and such.
Make sure to create your backup through rom manager. When you do, it will reboot into clockwordrecovery and show you the progress, didn't take that long for mine but I removed alot of nonesense from 2.1. This will be your emergency fall back, you might know this already but just making sure, as I am quite a noob at this point ROFL!
Enjoy
ps - I still can't decide on a new rom, I'm so fussy about stuff, ugh.

[Q] Please help me figure out why my home launcher(s) keeps starting itself over--?!!

I'm begging for someone to help me figure out what's going on with my Vibrant...but first, I've got to start out by admitting that I'm a total noob at this stuff--as much as I TRY to read/learn, I just don't seem to "get" it...I just wanted to make sure to make that clear before I tried explaining what my phone's been doing.
Okay, so, I updated to 2.2 the day it came out (months ago) & I'm rooted...(that's about as far as I've had the guts to go with it--I've never flashed a ROM or do anything else, simply because I was afraid I'd screw something up)...anyways, lately (for probably about 3-4 weeks now) my phone has dramatically slowed down, and now my home launchers (I've tried LPP, ADW, GO, & of course, the stock one) & some of my settings (mainly, the tones on my alarm clock & my ring tones) all keep resetting; my home screen will go blank and it takes several seconds to restart again...
I've done factory reset at least twice, I've uninstalled/reinstalled all the home launchers--even tried uninstalling all the other ones & just using the stock one...keeps happening. I've tried switching out my SD card--(I've got a brand new one in there now)--still nothing...I'm not sure what else I need to do--?
Could anybody PLEASE help me out before I throw my phone out the window--??!! ... THANK YOU!!!
I'd flash a new ROM. Don't be scared. Good luck!
Are you using a task killer? You might be inadvertently killing your launcher
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it's being killed. Either from a task manager (boo) or more likely it's just ran out of memory. Are you playing pretty heavy games? Plants vs Zombies makes my ADW EX reset, also the other game from that developer... it does too.
Could just be an app that is a hog. Any certain apps you run often when it happens? Notice any certain apps draining the battery? You could try installing watchdog.. it looks for apps that are using a lot of memory.
if you question certain apps, you could uninstall and see.
when i was on stock 2.2 my notification volume reset itself from full to about half everytime i got a text (or sent 1)
hasnt on any custom rom iv'e been on
id odin back to stock and clear out some memory
I'd flash over CM7. The battery drain issue JUST got solved (nightly 39) so it's battery is on par with 2.2 stock now (or better!). Broken GPS but that's the only bug.
Performance is 3-4 TIMES faster in EVERYTHING. Yes....that's TIMES. It feels like an entirely new phone. Also, it looks much better than anything you'll see from stock....with many customization options for theme. Try it.
Flashing now is SUPER easy. I literally can flash CM7 on your phone in about 2 minutes (provided I download it before).
Simply go on Market and get ROM Manager
Flash Clockwork Recovery from ROM MANAGER.
Download latest CM7
Put CM7 file on phone memory
Reboot into clockwork recovery
Install CM7 from clockwork
Wait till phone boots.
It can be useful to make a backup from Clockwork before you flash so if u **** up, you can go back. No harm done.
I had originally downloaded advanced task killer--but I uninstalled it months ago; I've also uninstalled anything that seemed to be eating up memory...but, it does seem to stay low anyways; I don't have anything that runs in the background, however, that I haven't always had running back when it was working okay--? I'm not sure what I'm missing though...
And, yes--I'm SUCH a chicken about flashing another ROM, simply because everything I've read on here has pretty much "scared" me out of trying it! I've downloaded ROM manager a few months ago, but (and I don't remember exactly which part I had the issue with) I tried to make a nandroid & it wouldn't let me...so I pretty much gave up--but, now that I'm having these problems, I may go back & read everything & (hopefully) try it all again...so, in other words, Stay Tuned--(in case I need some help! haha!)...
Don't be scared.
Nandroid backups are made in recovery. Use ROM manager to flash recovery. In recovery after reinstalling packages and getting green or red recovery use the backup and restore option to create ur back up (that's ur nandroid). This flashing situation is really easy if you read. These are good guys here if you need help they will be more than willing to help you. Good luck!
Task killers are garbage and down with @akaskriller

Yes just post questions if needed. The procedure like I said is really simply and the benefits are huge. But do read some stuff, it's always good to know it
Okaaaaaay...so, I'm just now (yes, a month and a half later) getting some time to sit down and attempt to "fix" my phone... I ODIN'ed back to stock 2.1--but now, I can't get root...?! I've copied update files from XDA into my phone, which, I'm assuming I've done correctly...??--(I told y'all I was a noob)...then, did the whole push the volume keys + power button maneuver--but when I tried to re-install packages, it tells me it's not there or they can't be opened...I've tried re-doing all this MANY times today without any luck...
Now, originally I had used SuperOne Click to get root--but that was after I had updated to 2.2...but everything I've looked at for to get root on 2.1, I don't see anything mentioned about using SuperOne Click...? Help me out guys--I'm getting crossed-eyed over here...
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU

Here's how to flash.
1. ODIN (You've done that already).
2. Use SuperOneClick to root the phone (read here how to use it) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682. You need Development enabled on the phone and plugged to your computer to do it. READ that topic I listed carefully if you are confused on how to root it.
3. Install ROM Manager from the Market, then flash Clockwork Recovery (select Vibrant (MTD) for Clockwork version). Now you are free to flash ROMs.
4. If flashing to CM7, download the latest nightly
(http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=vibrantmtd), put that on your phone via the USB cable. Put it on the phone memory, not on ur external SD card.
5. Reboot into recovery (Hold Power + Volume up + Volume down as you reboot the phone). Select re-install packages twice. Now that will get you into Clockwork recovery mod if you did step 3.
6. Select Install from zip card, find the CM7 ROM file you put on your phone and flash it. Wait till done.
7. Reboot phone, you now have CM7. Boot it up and let it sit for 5 minutes (do not touch it, its doing setup stuff).
8. Open the program ROM Manager (its installed by default). For Recovery, select Vibrant MTD 3.0x I think. Then select Download ROM, find the Google Apps package.
9. After downloading the Google Apps package, install it. You can do it straight from ROM Manager, it will ask you for root and then reboot into recovery and do it automatically.
10. You are done, you can now restore apps or set the phone how you like for usage.
OPTIONALLY you can install additional kernels and modems for better battery/coverage. The recommended modem is KB5 for CM7.1 as for kernel, if you want to upgrade, I'd recommend the latest Glitch CM7 kernel beta (fully stable).
NOTE, your GPS likely will not work in CM7. Be ready for that if you go this way.
Wow, seriously--Thaaaank You x110! I'll let you know how it goes!

Here is the udate.zip to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
(click the QR code and download, thats slick)
That needs to be placed on the internal SD, NOT in any folder, just sitting out on it's own. Open any file manager and make sure its there. At this point find the ROM you eventually wanna flash and place it on the internal SD as well. I like to make a folder named "ROM" and put all my ROM's in there.
After you ODIN when you boot into recovery it should be blue. SWEET!
- Reinstall Packages(do this until you get green recovery)
- apply update zip(do this in green recovery)
- Now flash the ROM you have already placed onto the internal SD. It is important to only flash once you get the green recovery.
Good luck!
okay, for either one of the ways...do i want debugging on or off--? (i'm assuming that "matters"--?)
HA! Nevermind... 0

SE X10 Mini Pro ROM Installing Issues - Complete Newbie

Hi guys,
Please forgive me if I sound stupid as I'm a complete newbie when it comes to modding Android phones.
Basically, I'm after installing the CM6 ROM onto my phone but have not been successful at all due to me not knowing how to follow the instructions for doing this properly especially from the links below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059361
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066824
I spent hours last night trying to do it but had no luck at all as I just can't understand how to and couldn't find clear enough instructions.
The reason I want to install this is because my current version of 2.1 is very unstable and reboots almost twice a day without fail. Also it freezes when doing simple things such as browsing apps or even the web or facebook etc. Also crashes often too causing me to reboot the phone.
Things I've tried so far:
Performed a full backup using in built Backup & Restore app then copied te backup file onto the PC
Managed to Root phone using SuperOneClick (easy enough app to use)
Downloaded CWM Recovery from one of the download links from the links above and ended up with 2 files found in system\bin\ called chargemon & recovery.tar.
I copied these 2 files in the root of the phone through Windows then tried rebooting phone then clicking on back key several times at boot screen but do not get any recovery mode or anything.
Tried xRecovery and this has an extra file called busybee but this doesn't work for me either.
Googled how to install xRecovery and CWM Recovery but none of the Youtube videos or sites give me clear instructions I can follow. Different sites have different methods.
In the end I got annoyed and unrooted the phone.
Would the instructions in this link wok for me do you think?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164475
Has anyone tried this method?
It seems easy enough but knowing my luck, it'll prob fail lol.
Right I tried following the instructions from the link below but I couldn't get the recovery app running after the batch file reboots my phone. The only step I skipped is restoring to a fresh copy of factory rom using seus but surely this shouldnt make a difference.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164475&page=2
Goto mini pro android development thread see the post of quangnhut123 about AIO Automatic Installation....
Right I followed the link below as before after restoring the phone back to a factory 2.1 rom using Seus. This time eit let me into the recovery mode where I was easily able to flash to CM6 rom provided by slade87. It took me to the android logo screen after rebooting the phone kept crashing here. I then reset the phone to factory defaults using recovery mode then it got me to the gui but there were no icons being displayed so I rebooted again & finally everything seemed normal.
It's still buggy though as titanium backup failed to restore my phone contacts even though it told me it was successful. I had backed them up before I had reset the phone to factory rom.
I'm unable to turn off the annoying sound when im typing on the keyboard even though i've checked every setting.
Live wallpaper doesn't work at all. Just gets stuck saying 'loading' when i choose one to preview.
I thought this cm7 rom was bug free.
Any ideas on fixes for the bugs reported anyone??
hi,
well, I have a mini pro also and I noticed that it's a little different from mini but there are good threads here in xda and I think you've read those as I understood from your post.
I'm using the cm6.01 like you choose and it took me some time to get there.... just like you but i can tell you what I did and maybe it helps you:
I used FlashTool_0.2.9.1 and rooted from there, then clicked "ask root perms" and in advanced menu I've selected "install busybox". after this I clicked in "xrecovery"
...ok, now the 1st part is done, and you have to put your rom (for mini pro) in sd card.
reboot and when you see the white text "sony ericsson" start pressing the right key ( <--) in your x10.
from here I did:wipe data, wipe cache and install zip from ad card, chose zip from sd card.
after install you'll reboot and you should go to this boot menu again and chose wipe data, to avoid crashing at the X logo.
I did this and it's done, without any problems!
Thanks for your response.
I've already done most of what you have mentioned anyway. The only difference is I used SuperOneClick to root my phone then used a script to install CWM Recovery.
My CM6.01 zip file was already stored on the SD card and this is where I browsed to just like you.
I'm just going to leave it to be honest.
I've noticed the touch keyboard makes the clicking sounds when used but the hardware keyboard doesn't make any sounds.
I've manually finished copying my contacts over so everything is kind of back to normal after lots of hassle.
I'm scared to flash it again because Titanium recovery being hopeless and very unreliable after my findings.
Why so scared?
Save numbers in SIMcard, with a free smsbackup you can save your sms's, by hooking up your phone to the pc you have your photo's, what do you need more?
Then you can do whatever you want, you can't really brick the phone because mine did nothing, and with SEUS I got it working again.
Just root like you did before, get the CWMRecovery.apk to install CWM automaticly, put any rom you like on the root of your SD and press back on boot for CWM to flash it.
Then do factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, I always do battery stats, then goto install from sd and select your ROM.

[Q] Sch-i905 can't use wifi or Hotspot after Root

Please Help. I've searched all over and tried everything for the last few days but nothing has worked. I have a:
Samsung Galaxy 10.1 4g LTE (sch-i905)
32GB with wifi
My services is through verizon.
I wanted to root the device for the sole reason of manipulating some game files to give me an advantage. I rooted by downloading a kernal.zip file and a recovery.zip file from another post. I unzipped the files through recovery mode. I was rooted with ease. Once rooted, My wifi wouldn't work. When I try to click on the connection it continuously goes back and forth between obtaining IP address/scanning/Connecting/. Thus, I can't connect at all. My 4g works fine, however I can't rely on just that because I will go over my limit each month. Also, the Hotspot function no longer works.
I unrooted the tab by following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235194
But still, no wifi connection or hotspot. I've tried the following (the first 2 after unrooting):
1) Factory data reset
2) Hard reset through recovery mode (holding power button and volume up)
3) Rooted again using a different method (the sticky here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185) However after finally getting past the "waiting on usb" in the downloading mode I could never finish the process of Flashing a Custom Recovery. (so basically i couldn't Root using this method)
4) Rooted again using the original method and trying to unroot by using the hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1 and tabunroot.zip method found on another board (couldn't finish it because tab wouldn't reboot all the way through)
Still, no wifi and no hotspot. The strange thing is, even when i completed the factory data reset and the hard reset, my files were still on the tab. My apps were gone but my pics and music were all there.
At this point, I don't care about being rooted, I would just like to find out how to get the tab back to it's original setting so that my wifi, 4g, and hotspot capabilities all work. If it means losing all files I'm fine with that.
I've searched everywhere but can't find much info on the sch-i905. I'm a novice, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Sorry for the long post. I have no idea what else to do. Any suggestions?
Before you totally give up on root, I suggest you try flashing this rooted 3.2stock update for our vzw tabs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444714
Wifi and hotspots should work. You can skip the step about odin flashing the recovery if you already have clockworkmod recovery. Let me know if you have any issues or questions.
Edit: the ROM isn't rooted by default for root do step 5 in that guide

Thanks jamezelle, I will give it a shot and report back.
Back in Business
Ok so here is the update. Hopefully this will help other rookies like me.
Thanks to Jamezelle, I went to the suggested thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444714
I followed step 1 and renamed the file to update.zip and moved it to my root file on the tab.
I then skipped step 2 since i already had clockworkmod recovery installed on the tab. As step 3 suggested, I booted into stock recovery and applied the update.zip file. Unfortunately, it wouldn't install and I kept getting the message "installation aborted."
Frustrated, I started over and decided to try step 2 this time. I used odin to flash the suggested file. Once I got into Odin and selected PDA, chose the downloaded file and hit start, it would get stuck at "Setup Connection." (just as it did before when I originally tried to root using Odin.) So basically, I couldn't complete step 2.
It seemed like nothing was working. So I read the entire thread and saw someone with a similar problem. They stated that it was an issue with the drivers. I did as the post suggested and downloaded Samsung Kies on my computer. I then went back to step 2 and finally was able to Odin flash the suggested recovery!!
I thought I was in business. However, when I tried to complete step 4 and apply the update.zip, I would always get the yellow exclamation point but nothing else. It would just freeze. I tried it several times to no avail.
I again read the entire thread and saw a different poster with this same issue. Their post suggested installing stock ROM via Odin, thereby getting me to stock 3.1 then rebooting the tab and updating to the next version, then rebooting the tab again and getting the update to 3.2.
I found the stock ROM file on rootzwiki, installed it via Odin and got back to stock 3.1 which put the tab back in its original, "out-of-the-box" condition. My wifi worked and my hotspot was back to normal. I then rebooted and the 3.2 (via the 351mb download) update installed and now I'm back to where I was 3 days ago minus my files (but i backed them up).
Sooooo, I'm going to breathe for a few days then try rooting by completing steps 5-8, which I'm sure should work now. If they don't, at least I know how to get back to the start this time.
Super Thanks to Jamezelle for leading me to the fix. Donation sent!
No problem, sorry you had sooooo many issues. hope your rooting goes well when you get a chance. Thanks for the donation.
Sent from my SCH-I905 using Tapatalk 2
Sounds like you're almost there, all you have to do now is root 3.2 again.
What I'd do is try to install pershoot's latest CWM recovery first, found here:
http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/
I'd grab the May 15th, 2012 version for the SCH-i905 and install that. Reboot and test both stock 3.2 and CWM recovery to make sure everything's working.
Then I'd grab the January 9th kernel from droidbasement for the SCH-i905 which is the last version compatible with 3.2 for our tablet and the superuser zip file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19726933&postcount=1
Save both to your tablet and then boot into recovery and install zip those two, reboot and you should have root. After that go to market and get a busybox installer app, install busybox and then you should be good to go.
If all goes well and you have root, jump into CWM and make an nandroid backup of your device so that later if/when you play with other ROMs you can revert back to rooted 3.2. Its a good idea to nandroid backup prior to flashing any ROM so you're able to restore right back to your last working state anyway, something I do on a regular basis anyhow just for peace of mind (I nandroid backup monthly and keep them on my PC, I keep one copy on the tab of the latest backup).

[Q] Reverting back original stock rom

Hi all. I've kinda screwed up the wifes gtablet and am now in the doghouse and need some help. I tried searching for this info in the forums and have had no luck getting the info I need. I am running android 2.2 tap ui version 1.2-5699 kernal 2.6.32.9-svn4979 [email protected] #2. I would really like to get back to original stock setup as the email, android market facebook app all don't work thus making this tablet the worlds most expensive clock. I have read that there are issues trying to go from 1.2 back to 1.1 and I can't find a comprehensive guide explaining how to do this. Any help or suggestions regarding this matter would be extremely helpfull. Thanks to all.
1. Version 1.2-5699 is the latest stock firmware from Viewsonic, so there's no need to install another version.
2. If only the ROM, or the apps on it are screwed up, and if you have the stock recovery, then just wipe data. This will bring the stock ROM back to the original, newly-installed, state.
3. Depending on where the apps you mentioned are installed (either in /system/app or /data/app), after a wipe data in stock recovery, you may not, or may, respectively, have to re-install the apps. All application data, however, will have been wiped.

I have taken your advice and have went into recovery mode and wiped all caches and have done a factory reset. The system appeared to boot up like I had just taken it out of the box for the first time. After initial setup I am still having the same issues. I can't enter a valid email address. I can't get into any android store (and I've tried them all) and the same web sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc) are erroring out. This is why i was wondering if there is any way to go back to original stock as before i tried using vegan tab everything worked properly. I bought this for the wife when it first came out and vegan tab appeared to work for about 6 months before apps started force closing and i couldn't access the mac address on the tablet to set it up on my new router. I think my ROM might be dirty? I have seen ways on here to bring the system back to original if you are still running on the 1.1 branch but I am on the 1.2. BTW clockworkmod .08 doesn't work on 1.2 branch. All it does after installation is kill access to recovery mode. Any ideas? Oh and thanks for your help. Cheers

I'll need to look at logs and run some commands to figure out what's wrong (but see below).

There's no reason to go back to the stock VS ROM--or an older version of the stock ROM--just to fix problems. Better to install a custom ROM and then fix problems on that.

CWM .08 won't work on a 1.2 bootloader because the kernel in it is built for the 1.1 bootloader. You'll have to install a different version of CWM. See this thread.
However, if you really like CWM .08 and want to keep using it, then let me know. It's not hard to run CWM .08 on a 1.2 bootloader.
Suggestions:
1. Set the correct date and time always. This is very important.
2. Install CWM.
3. In CWM:
a) Repartition the internal SD card (remove any microSD cards first).
b) Format /cache (mount and storage menu)
4. Transfer and install a custom ROM.
Do steps 1 - 3 first, then I'll tell you how to collect some logs. After that's done, tell me which ROM you want to install.
