Flext9 Keyboard free today only on the Amazon App Store - myTouch 4G Themes and Apps

Yes, the same keyboard that was supposedly a leak of HTC Trace from another rom. It is made by Nuance the people behind dragon dictation, and I find it much more accurate than swype.
Enjoy it for free today only!

Nothing wrong with sharing info, don't be so quick to think others wouldn't like to know about this.

I'm sure many people were happy to see it, but my point is that there's already a stickied thread for these releases. Why make dozens of threads about amazon's app of the day when we can have just one? It's easier to keep organized this way. Too much clutter if everyone makes their own topic for a new release

Pandora update

Correct posting location = Apps & Themes... just sayin..
Thank you for the newsflash though.
That's great. Shouldn't this be in themes and apps not development?
A rom called "pandora" and an update for it, where is the change log?
*shakes head* I guess common sense really is dead. That's a real shame!
Awesome thanks!

Yeap,
Right now, running great...Now when I get home time to remove the skip limit.
Oh yeah, to the OP, thanks for the info but facepalm as to the section you posted it in.
is a full wipe needed? what kernel does it come with....
So before you all decide to keep flaming me for posting in this thread, check my post history I am fully aware of what the different forums are for as a matter of fact I posted a Question this morning in the Q&A Forum.
This is a universal problem across ALL ROMs and has been discussed in EVERY single ginger bread based ROM in this forum, and as such I felt it was the appropriate place to get as much dissemenation as possible. Please don't insult my common sense as I assure you I have plenty of it.
As for the quote of "Pandora ROM" I'm pretty sure my post was NOT entitled [ROM] or [Kernel] or [Mod] so give me some credit there... If someone who Moderates these forums thinks there is a better place for it feel free to move it, but the reality is I was trying to help as many people as possible, I didnt post something that says, "Excuse me how do I do an hboot or flash a ROM" I posted a universally applicable piece of information.
Have a fantastic day and for all of you flaming me enjoy your Pandora now that you know the fix has been released (even though it was posted in this forum)
Cheers.
Well I appreciate the info, updating now, thanks. And you had to know you would get sh*t on for posting it here. I'm glad you did as I don't search the other forums often.

same reason I did post it here!
Regardless of the reason it is still the wrong forum. Explain it however makes you feel warm and fuzzy but this is the development forum and a market app update is not development. Just saying.
Also if people didn't see it in the Themes & Apps forum they would have seen it when they loaded the market and saw there was an update available.
I could give two ****s where its posted. I'm glad I seen it cause I normally just browse my favorite threads.
Thanks again to the OP.

All 47 posts? Good job. Post in the right section next time. If you read the dev section requirements and rules, you would understand. And as for the tool who said thats what mods are for, mods are here for tools like you do they can kick you in the face with the BAN BOOT.

General question

Is anybody else sick and tired of people sayin, "this needs to be moved to the q&a...". Also to all of you people that are die hard search buttons freaks. People like blogs because they can interact, not everybody likes to read everybodys dated opinions without a chance to reply. Technology changes with new development so if someone wants to start a new evo3d vs whatever thread, then more power to them. This is just my question in general.

It's ok to ask questions in General & Q&A, anywhere else poses issues to those who use search at it's best.
Some might gripe about General (real tight-assed people) but whatever with that.
BUT look at it this way:
Say you ask a very good question but you post it in the wrong area & someone searches Q&A. You've effectively screwed someone who was following directions who could've found your thread in "search". You also mess up the flow with people who are (annoyingly but rightly) mentioning that it needs to be moved.
Posting in the right area helps your fellow members & helps keep "Search" effective & the Question Thread.
Is it perfect, no. Is it the greatest tool on XDA? Yes.
Most phones do not even have both sections. Honestly i dont search with my laptop, but i try my best with thw app but imo it stays pretty broad

New Original Development Sub-Forum

Hey all,
As some of you have probably noticed by now, we have a new Development section for original works. As explained in the portal article Introducing the Original Development Forums, these forums were found to be very useful in other sections and there has been a lot of requests to add them for more devices.
Please refer to the article for general guidelines on what is and isn't appropriate to post there, and if you have any questions feel free to ask in this thread or to PM any of the moderators about it.
Those using Tapatalk or the XDA app will probably need to refresh the forums list in order to see it. You can do this by going to the base forum view that list all of the different devices and refreshing or by unsubscribing and then resubscribing to this section.

I haven't seen this before, but can understand why most would want this. Should make it much easier to find a specific thread. Especially for new comers. Very cool.

I think this is neat, since I'm only really interested in the original development anyway, because that tends to be more fun.
Very nice. This will be extremely useful for devs.
edit: Hey Haus. Just an idea, but it would be nice to have a Recognized Dev forum with-in each device. One where we can collaborate and figure out mods together and have less chatter from non-devs. But a place where non-devs can still have access to links to mods and such. Just a thought.

The way I see it is that it creates more place to navigate through to look for roms and other work. I personally do not see the real need for it especially since both sub forums would contain the same kind of information except that one would have original work and the other would not. This could have been done a different way without completely creating a new sub forum that would produce a similar result. For example, the OP post could explain that it's original work or the thread title for all original work would be identified with a prefix of ORG.
At any rate, it seems that others see it useful and probably very helpful for developers. I am not bothered by it! However, I would have preferred things to stay the way they were.
I'm just a little confused as to what defines original development versus non-original. Original meaning not ported from another device? As I browsed through the ROMs in each section I couldn't figure out what differentiated one from the other making it original.

The announcement really details the difference.
For example, CM9 development is original because it's new and big and it's something that's being created.
ViperROM, for example, is not original because it is based on HTCs stock ROM.

Well that is what I thought would be the factor at first. Except ViperROM and others based on stock are in the original section while other stock based ROMs are not.
Edit: I re-read the announcement and maybe the difference is more apparent to other devs and not so much to the layperson but still sounds kinda subjective. Doesn't make much difference to me, just curious.

There are a lot of times where someone with a low post count is able to help out a lot so we don't want to limit it too much, but making it so only RDs (and maybe RCs/RTs) can create new threads there may be a good idea. Try running it by them in the RD area to see if it's possible.

Unfortunately a lot of it is kind of subjective since it's a difficult thing to really define, but for the most part it depends on how significant the changes with the ROM are. It's very much a work in progress still so I apologize if things get bounced around some while it's all being sorted.
Hmm, I'm not sure I like this but it will prolly grow on me.

As has already been mentioned, all you have to do is un-favorite the forum and then go back through the list and favorite it again.
xHausx, I like your work and appreciate all the explanations you give but I gotta say.. this new section is retarded.
Maybe it was needed in the Samsung forums but we don't need it here. It's just going to confuse a ton of people.
I'm not a dev, so if they like the idea that's great. I just see it as a way for more silly arguments to start. I think that development is development the smallest of ideas is original. Seems like if you're in original then your work is somehow better. I guess we'll see how it works out.

I think the most annoying part of this feature is having to look in two different places for the same thing and being unsure which forum your favorite rom(s) are located in. The more I use this (both on a desktop and on the phone), the more annoying it is. I don't think the average user care much whether the rom is original or not as long as it works well and do what it is supposed to do.
The idea behind adding this feature is great but its reality is not.
I was excited about the section but it all seems the same as before. Every mod, derivative rom, and other FAQs.
I think it probably would have best been split AOSP core and HTC core if you're going to split it at all, otherwise just leave it the way it was, as messy as it was.
Im not a fan of it either. I find it hard to differentiate between the two. I've read the announcement but I still find myself going into both looking for a specific thread. I think this will just confuse a lot of people but if the devs like it then ok...
Sent from my LTEvo using XDA Premium
I'm a moderator, and I make roms and mods and themes, some of that is "original". I've written some tutorials for original things as well. Honestly I think this is silly. Maybe tag original dev threads or something like the "recognized" program. But differentiating dev threads seems like a lot more headache for devs and users alike. It's like making a new original themes section where the themer drew his images from scratch and wrote new xmls instead of modifying existing images and code. Who's idea was this? I fail to see it's benefit. If it is what it is then cool. But there's already RUU kitchen built roms in the "original" section, and though there may be "original" tweaks to said roms, I don't know that that makes them so. I'd love to have some transparent open discussion about this with users/devs/moderators alike. Thoughts? Counters? Etc?

Request for mods - add links before closing threads

Mods, when you close a thread for duplicating information/questions/topics, can you link to the thread that has the original information/answers? It becomes difficult when you are searching the forums for an answer, and you find threads asking the question you need answered, but all they have are a post from a moderator saying "Already been asked. Locked."
They would prob expect you to do a little of the work to find the topic or information YOU are looking for ..they r not secretaries

That was the point. When you try to do a search you get a lot of results with questions but no answers. This makes it difficult to do your own "work".
That's why its called "work".. If it was easy then you'd already know how to do it... Part of the experience is finding wrong threads that may not pertain to what you think they should, but you learn (how to search on your own and not have everybody cater to you) regardless.

Clutter does not make anything better. Not the board and not the users' experience.
I've never had an issue..usually I can even google and find an xda thread about what I'm looking for..I guess everyone's expectations are different..regardless its not the mods job to do it for you

I can generally find my answers too. But once in a while there will be a hot issue that lots of people ask about. Their questions usually contain all the key words, so search results come back filled with clutter.
A moderators first job is to protect the board and the integrity of the data. It is also a mod's job to help make sure the board provides a good user experience. Somtimes that means cleaning up threads. This might include merging them, moving them or deleting them. If a mod knows infor exists elsewhere then he already knows where it is. To expect him to put that link into a thread he locks is _certainly not_ too much to ask.
Hint: I run a forum too, and have several moderators.
What if the mods merged the threads and shot the op a PM letting him know with the link to the thread. I've had a mod do that for me once here in another section. It was very helpful. Just a thought.

we dont typically do this b/c at times it makes a mess when merged, is a complete hassle to do, and also more importantly wouldn't teach people to take a few extra min to look around and find what they are looking for on their own and learn...
and the reason you dont see a link a lot of the times when threads are closed b/c other threads are already present......its b/c 9/10 times the thread that they should of posted in to begin with was on the first page of the very same section they post in....
Also we dont always have the time to pull up and copy the link to the thread for the user...

Why are the sub forums the way they are?

Seems to me it would be nice to have sub forums for things like kernals/tw roms/aosp roms/themes
Right now it seems like it is sorted on something most people don't care about and we have to wade through it all just to get two the meat and potatoes of what we are actually looking for.

I bet if you created more sub forums the moderators wouldn't be able to keep up. It's tough for them as it is with as many devices listed here. Could you imagine adding two or three more sub forums to every device? OMG

I think if re organized it would be easier to maintain. Plus you wouldnt have to moderate threads like "where did the carbon rom go"

It would make it more logical, but you would need more mods. People can't even figure out to not post a question in development or even more common general. Could you imagine if we had more sub forums for then to miss post in.

good catch.... however it should be titled "discussion about sub forums"
I am not saying we need more sub forums. i am saying we need better lines between them. After all a lot of questions just turn into discussions.
90% of the people don't know or care the difference between orig dev and dev.
however 90% would know the difference between a rom and a kernal.

I think this might be a little optimistic :silly: But your point is still valid. I think a re-organization would be nice.
I don't see any need for more sub-forums. The current organization makes perfect sense. That is why there is a naming convention for kernels and ROM's. The current organization is the result of years of trying different organization of sub's on XDA.
Remember, first and foremost XDA is a forum for developers to collaborate and share work.
But everybody is entitled to have an opinion, I'm not trying to stifle that.

If only there was a search function you could use. Or even just a way to save your favorite threads.... lol j/k someone had to say it.
I agree, there does seem to be room for improvement.
IMO the Q&A should be eliminated. If you have a question about a ROM, Kernel, or Theme ask it in that thread. Any other kind of question should be in general or accessories. I would even go as far to say the general section should be shared with all carrier forums, like accessories is.
I also think Themes and apps should be split. Themes should go in development and be carrier specific. Apps should be part of accessories because the majority can be used no matter carrier.
It would actually condense the number of sections and should be easier to monitor. But it's just my opinion, from the outside looking in.
