[Q] Reboot and installed apps are deleted - HD2 Android SD Development

I have tried a few roms (SD) and run great. After I install applications and reboot, all of the apps are removed including Market.
Any ideas?
Thanks...

Hi Matey below is what i done and all the stuff i had installed worked great.
cut everything from SD card to folder on PC desktop, followed instructions again for putting SuperRAM on SD card, then overwrite the Data image file on sd with the one i had saved and Walla! all working again.
Reason i had to reload mine to SD card was because it had become corrupted So jcsy recommended the above, but only needed to replace the Data file image with the one that had been newly put on the card.
Good luck

Unable to save any type of files after rom upgrade and backup! Pls Help!

Hi, I have an HTC HD2 which I recently upgraded it rom ver. 1.66.415.9. I used spb backup to get my main memory files. Somehow, in a way, I was able to get all of my files anfd programs with windows settings and registry using ROM upgrade mode without changing the rom version back to the old one. But the then when I took pictures then tried to open them in albums, they weren't saved. A probition sign (circle-backslash "no" sign) showed up. I tried to open it but an error shows up saying "unable to open this type of jpg file" and then the sign diappears, as if the image wasn't saved. I even tried saving a note file. After saving, I opened it but instead of showing the notes I wrote, symbol characters showed up as if the file was encrypted. After rebooting my mobile, the note file wasn't there. I still have enough storage space to save more files and pictures. Did anybody face the same problem that I did? Please help me and thank you in advance.
Can anyone please help me? This is really stopping me from being productive!
i would suspect the file associations / locations have been corrupted, probably by restoring the registry from a different rom.
(Registry really ought only to be copied over to fresh resets of the same rom, not new roms. It can be done, but its prone to issues just as you describe)
AND/OR
the image library files have become corrupted. Look in your image folders, and delete album.cache files. They will be automatically rebuilt.
I would try to consolidate what you have as it is now, if your files are all there, and your contacts are there, backup your contacts by some means, ensure all your files are on the sd card, and hard reset.
I have hard reset my mobile a couple of times, even before restoring the pim data without the system settings, the camera would take a picture but the picture wouldn't be saved on the sd. But after I restored everything, I thought of uninstalling resco file explorer (thinking that it was the problem) and deleting the library files, but nothing changed. But when I thought of formatting the sd card, I tried to reinstall resco explorer as it has a formatting feature. At first when I tried to install it to the sd card, it failed to install, but it was installed successfully in main phone memory. I opened resco and went to the formatting option. Once I started formatting, an error messege appears saying "Failed to format sd card. Please make sure that the sd card is not locked." Does this mean that if I formatted my sd card, the problem would be fixed? BTW, my sd is on a FAT sytem. To which type should I format the sd?
Thanks in advance
hmmm sounds like a funny sd card then.
use fat32
Seems to be the sd-card.
When I upgraded my ROM from 1.48 to 1.66 I restored main mem with everything with SPB-backup-file and everything worked fine from the beginning (except in setting tab still shows the info that old 1.48 ROM is installed).
Hope You made a backup of Your sd-card. So format sd on PC and copy back all files, should work then....... hopefully .......
ok now that's just wierd! I tried formatting the sd using the laptops card reader with the micro sd adapter, but an error appeared saying "Windows was unable to complete the format". I tried deleting the files but the laptop froze. I had to remove the sd to get it back working. Then I used a usb card reader. Some problem. Finally, I used the phone via the usb to format the sd. The error appeared again, but there was no problem when delelting the files. But after I tried reformatting it, the error appeared and the files on it also! It's as if there's a lock switch inside which the micro sd shouldn't have. What should I do in this case? Is there a program or a file that can unlock it?
Thanks in advance.
This is really irritating. My card doesn't allow me to save or delete anything. Formatting didn't work. I even tried a program to detect a fault on it but nothing shows up. All formatting programs freeze when I start formatting my card. Deleting any file doesn't work as it is restored after resetting my mobile, and finally, no body has faced such a problem. What should I do?

What files are safe to delete in the SD card?

Hi everyone,
I just updated my Aria to FR007 and really want to have a 'brand new' phone look + feel.
I would like to delete ALL unnecessary files in the SD card & phone memory cos at the moment, I feel like something is not amiss.
I only have 574mb left out of the stock 2gb SD card. And my internal phone storage have only 132mb available space left.
I would like to save only my nandroid backup in the SDcard and nothing else. So deleting all other datas like saved apps, games, contacts, images, music and others are fine.
Please advice what procedure I need to follow as I am not familiar with what files are safe to delete. Is it safe to just do this:
Settings > SD & Phone Storage >Factory Data Reset ?
Thank you for your advice!
I would like to know this as well because out of a 8GB SD card (7.59GB) i only have 549MB remaining and i only have 1 nandroid back up and 3 GB of music on the phone.
That's a loaded question dependant upon what apps are installed. Many apps create folders and populate the sd card in some form.
Best I can tell you, mount the storage and copy the sd content to your computer. Erase the sdcard content and see what happens after reboot. Should only potentially bother 3rd party apps.

Thanks for the advice BelacNongaw.
I thought about that too but I was thinking maybe there are some system files or essential files that MUST be in the SD card. And also, wouldn't deleting everything in the SD card also delete my nandroid backup? And Clockwork? <-They do reside in the SD card, yes?
Let me reiterate please: I want a 'brand new' phone while keeping only my last nandroid backup Will a factory reset do?
Thanks again everyone!
I had the same problem and the only thing I noticed was nandroid backups take a lot of space and also apps that have been deleted keep their folders in the sd card

Okay this is what I did:
1. Back up my SDcard to the computer (plug it in, mount as disk drive, copy all contents to a folder on the desktop).
2. Restart the Aria in Recovery mode (Vol. down while Power up)
3. Go to Recovery > Partitions > Format SD Card
Now I have 1.84gb of SD storage with these folders (viewed in Astro):
1. .footprints / thumbnails / voices
2. LOST.DIR
3. tmp / .astro / astro
Haven't tested everything yet but eBuddy and Market are doing well, downloading and app installation are running fine too.
Now I'm quite concerned about the following:
1. Does this mean that I do not have clockwork anymore? Because there was a 'clockworkmod' folder in the SDcard before I formatted it.
2. Am I screwed?
Thank you for any suggestions/advice. I hope this thread can offer some helpful tips to those who need it in the future.
You are fine. The clockworkmod folder is where rom manager downloads and your nandroid backups are stored. You can just copy it back or rom manager will generate it again next time you nandroid backup.

Thanks for reminding me BelacNongaw.
I just made a nandroid backup of my bare minimum Aria, and it automaticall created a clockworkmod folder in the SDcard with the md5 file.
Anyways, it's great to have all these space now
Great post guys I was wondering this myself. I recently rooted my inspire 4g to factory restore but all 3rd party apps are still on the sd card and i have no intention of re-installing any of them so i am looking for a safe way to delete unnessesary folders without deleting the vital ones, ill give your suggestions a try.
Technically you can safely delete everything that's on the sd card. Android will automatically create whatever folders it needs. Of course you'll lose any data saved to the sd, but you wont mess up your phone at all.

i have a g2 but i have the same thoughts i want the space back from sd card not worried about loosing any thing just dont want to mess the phone up
Don't worry. SD card is totally an external of the phone. Delete everything, it doesn't matter. And backup your needed files to any place you like. You can move them back to your reformatted SD card whenever you like.

Everything on ExSD Card inaccessible after installing new ROM?

Hi I recently flashed my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 with the Resurrection Remix ICS v.1.9.1 ROM and everything went fairly well except that my external sdcard looked like it had been totally erased. While this was irritating it was not devastating (had a backup) but when i attached my sgs2 to my computer to copy the backup back to the sdcard i noticed that everything was there, i hadn't lost a single file. I went back and looked at the card via my phone and it still looks empty but i did notice (after further inspection) that it is almost full. I checked to make sure view hidden files was enabled, it was, but still nada (using OI File manager and File Explorer). I got no ideas would really appreciate any ideas on what i might do to fix this issue.
Cheers,
-Gaiko
[Q] I updated from ICS resurrection remix 1.7 to 1.8.1 and i got problems with..
Hi, thanks for the quick reply but i had tried those things (I shoulda mentioned that, sorry). I have tried combinations of use internal storage and MTP but still not able to see the contents of the exsd card (haven't had problems seeing the card itself, just the contents on the card).
Cheers,
-Gaiko
copy the contents of the sdcard to your computer, and format the sd card from your phone. Try again.

hi I tried to format it then copy a few things back on it but strangely it still shows up like it did before, that is, before there was one lone/empty folder that showed up (nothing else showed up through android, but i could see it via windows) but after i formated it, this folder (named "AudioBooks" that i had made before) still shows up when i try to look at the cards contents via android. This folder does not show up in windows, and nothing new that i copy to the card shows up in Android still.
Is there perhaps some sort of cache that i should clear as it seems to be showing me "bits from the past" (though also strange how it only shows me that audiobooks folder and not any of the 5 other folders that i had on there previously).
Any thoughts/ideas would really be appreciated!
-Gaiko
Maka a backup and restore original rom, and see if the problem persists. If not, you should notify a bug to Resurrection Remix rom developer.
Similar problem
I have had a similar problem. Been using RR last few months and all been good. Since I updated to RR 2.2 could not access my internal SD card. I had a few backups and as soon as I restored 2.1 viola everything's fine.
Tried using Siyah 3.2.7.2 and 3.3.1 kernels with no luck.
Have tried wiping everything and doing a fresh install with 2.2 but same issue. Did you have any luck?

SD Card File permissions messed up (brand new flash Viper 4.5.0/full-wipe)

Hey,
I just did a full-wipe/factory reset (delete all data) on both my SD card and my internal storage. I pushed over the viper install, and installed it as I normally would have. Aroma doesn't give me any errors, and the phone boots up w/o any errors either.
Honestly everything works perfectly, aside from non-system apps which are writing to the SD card.
Snapchat videos don't load (says please mount SD card)
Swiftkey doesn't work because it can't download any language packs.
Maps crashes on launch, and Waze crashes after I logged in (I'm assuming it can't download any actual map files).
So far those are the only apps I've noticed, but I'm sure there's more which I haven't loaded up yet.
System apps and File explorers can see the SD card fine (Stock Camera app saves to SD and it works) and ES file explorer can see the card too.
I've tried running Rom Manager and running the fix permissions options, as well as TWRP's fix permissions script too. No luck on either.
Originally the card was FAT32 (vfat on TWRP), and I've tried EXT4, exFAT, and FAT32 again via TWRP and no luck.
Previous rom was Viper 4.3, and my FW is 5.0.x. SCID as well.
Any one know what's going on?

Apps2sd "sd fix" messed up phone. Cant View files but can see under TWRP.

Edit -- Nvm. I just went in and did a factory reset. Pretty sad since I hadnt backed up in about 2 weeks. My loss. My stupiditiy. Learn form our mistakes.
After the factory reset, I can view my SD card again which is pretty nice, so not a total loss.

Alright. A little about my phone. Its a Galaxy s5 with an 8gb micro sd card. The phone is rooted.
Last night I installed Apps2sd. When I first opened the app it mentioned that my SD card was not setup and I would need to run some "sd fix". I accepted, the phone rebooted and then when it came back up, its as if my SD card was blank. Not only blank, but after connecting phone to the PC, both my phone and card show but are empty. The SD card displays as -1376256 bytes free of -1376256 bytes. The phone shows 127mb free of 128mb.
I also made the mistake of uninstalled apps2sd after my phone booted up and I noticed the issue. Wasnt very smart of me as I can not seem to install it or anything back. Most apps including google play just crash when trying to load. When vieiwng files under My Files, basically everything is empty. If I try using FX file manager then most things say I dont have access.
Now when I first turn on phone and I boot into safestrap TWRP, I can go through and view files and I See all my stuff on my SD card and phone. I can even copy files from my SD card and place them in other directories (tried to copy the apps2sd apk onto phone to reinstall) but just cant ever see any of it when the phone is booted.
Also under TWRP, If I go to backup or anything for example, It lists Micro SD as 2132mb and Internal Storage as 3436mb. So im guessing apps2sd created a partition of some sort?
What have I done? What did my stupid ass do and is there any way to fix it?
tl;dr: Installed apps2sd, clicked things I shouldnt click. Cant view any files on phone or when connected to USB but can see everything under TWRP.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
