I have recently updated to 1.8.3 and gingerblur, and I still have the update notification. Any help?

Did you update OTA or with sbf?
Sent from WinBorg 4G via XDA premium app
Hey, before you updated to 1.83 sbf, did your IMEI appear in RSD lite? I know mine did before and now it's not. I was going to flash down to 1.26, gladroot, then flash to 1.83 to see if it would clear the notification but I just noticed this.

You can just thaw the app for the next update, no prob. But on GingerBlur you cant install the update anyways, it would fail.

Won't work because it will keep asking to update to 4.1.83 before it will allow the next update after it!
The OP needs for this update reminder/message to go away altogether!

Actually, I don't think I can use the ota anymore because of gingerblur. And the sbf should work fine.

Not sure what you are trying to say. When frozen you will not recieve reminder messages. Again, you cannot install an update over any mod.

If you freeze, the reminder will go away until you thaw for the next new update, after which time the updater will not allow you to OTA to the latest firmware until you have updated OTA to 4.1.83. So, you see, freezing is a temporary solution, and not a fix.
And your statement about not installing an update over ANY mod is incorrect.

If you look at it that way then root is temporary since we have to retain it after every update as well. Dont be dificult. Freezing the updater will achieve the end results the op want w/o any consequence.
If you do the mods on the dev forum like webtop ginger grey and whatnot then no you cannot update it will fail. I guess if you want to be super technical.... Installing a home launcher will MODify the way your phone looks..but will not cause the update to fail. Since we have already established the op is on these types of mods, the info applies to him.

I was running 2.3.4 on phone. I was dicking around logged into Motoblur and it let me know of an update. It said I was running 1.83.
Flashing now and it's rebooting. Woo Hoo !!!!
EDIT : It says no update flashed to stock and nothing else. But I'm unlocked. Wondering if that's dicking it.

Concur. Off and on in many threads. I made the mistake of actually thinking today was the day since I received the update, after checking multiple times after flashing 2.3.4.
And when it finally does hit and someone posts, they will undoubtedly be bashed for trying to let people know, and *****ed at because there's other threads.

Yes there is a solution... Download the app by supercurio called "OTA ROOTKEEPER" THIS WILL allow you temporarily unrOOt your phone and make the market videos app think ur phone is stock. Try it...i use it and works perfect.
Edit: for those who need to know how to use it. Download it. Click protect root. Then it will ask you two things. Click the second option which says temporarily unroot. Then watch ur movie. After your done with your market movie. Open ota ROOTKEEPER and click the unroot again and it will give u root back.

It is very unusual. I'm able to stream Netflix movies over cellular. I called the Google Play support and they asked that I call AT&T. AT&T says there is no such restrictions on my account. So now I'm waiting to hear back from the Google Play team. I wonder if the google play movies software is buggy. can someone else confirm?
Thanks! I can use the Google Play on my Note now!

using root explorer is the easiest way. find it in root explorrer, make a backup just in case, open it in any text editor, edit the nescessary parameters, then replace the original with your edited version in root explorer. to copy and paste in that directory in root explorer, at the top of the app there is a small button that says mount r/w, click it to enable write access in that folder and you will be able to paste it there.
also, by r he means in the device name. there is an r after it for rogers, and if you arent running saurom then this really wont pertain to you as the at&t stock rom will not have that in the build.prop. saurom does however because it is from a canadian rom on the rogers network
Can anyone post a pic of which r to remove. Cause removing to many R's will kill the s pen.

Get trebuchet launcher and you're a little closer to AOSP. Stuck with the same crap contacts/phone, that is one thing I miss coming from an HTC with tons of development. Read the instructions first please before posting anything please. I am usaing this on the latest CM9 Nightly release and do not know in what other roms it will work on.

Hey guys! I'm on flaps ROM and I tried to flash the kernel r2 with cwm touch. When I do it says that it succeeded. Then when I reboot, I go check the kernel version it's still at 3.0.8 (something like that). Is there something I'm missing? I was also on black star and tried to flash the same way and it wouldn't. Thanks for any help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
What is the date listed in the kernel info? Afaik if it's Sun Jul 15 you should be good. I may be totally wrong though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I thought the same thing. Ive used setcpu to overclock and it works fine. Newest update was fix on capacitive buttons staying on
Thanks for the replies. The kernel info says 3.0.8 and that's all. What I'm trying to explain is that it says that it was a successful flash in cwm touch recovery, but it doesn't show up in about phone in settings once I reboot from cwm touch recovery. Hope I'm explaining it well. Basically I flash it, reboot, then go check the version and it still says 3.0.8. Every time.

Might sound stupid...but are you ONLY flashing the kernal? If you flash the rom again, it will overwrite the kernal. That's honestly the only thing I can think of. That, or a bad download

If you have fj rom you must delete a file and rename another. Then switch to cpu master free over set cpu. I

I simply deleted both files. That doesn't solve his problem of the kernal not even showing up in about phone tho. The deletion of FJs files has to do with clock speed and settings sticking and horrid lag...not the kernal installing.
And IIRC, that only pertains to the FJmod. He has a stock base too minus the mod. Similar to electrons build.

Thanks again for the replies. Correct, just the kernel file only. It's the second r2 file I've tried doing. When I was on h0tw1r3s ROM, I was able to flash and update the kernel to r2. I wonder if I should try a different recovery like tarp or maybe it has to do with a mounting issue or something. By the way, I'm not saying anything about overclocking, just installing the kernel itself.

That's weird! Report back with a solution if you figure one out. Maybe it will help someone else out.
And yeah, I got ya on just wanting the kernal installed. I personally am not OCing with the kernal. I REALLY wanted it for BLN support and tweaks.

I have the r 2 and r3. Mine says 3.0.8, but that's all. Nothing else. Lol i just tried flashing it again and it didn't install although when i flash it in recovery, it says that it installed fine, but didn't actually install. It still only says 3.0.8. I'm sure there is something I'm doing wrong or i may need to just re do it all.

R4 just came out....
thinking you may want to try a re-install of CWM.......non-touch to start.....go to the everything thread at the top of the general section. it should be there...
good luck to you...thats a very odd issue to be sure....g
I just recieved an OTA update...seen in pic. I have installed RootKeeper...so am I good?
I deferred the update for 24 hours...how do I delete or disarm the update?
The update name is: LG_VS980_10B_TO_11A
This software update includes enhancements and improvements to your LG G2. (yeah right VZW!)

I think this may be due to the amount of RAM available to the phone... The UI takes up a TON! it was mentioned in another thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450290 .... but it seems as though it runs out of ram and removes the homescreen from it when you're doing things in other apps
thats exactly why it redraws. hell, stock android redraws still man. my nexus 7 does it. how annoying.

Update didn't remove root
I installed root keeper, backed up my root, temp unrooted and then did the update. After it was done updating, i restored root and it worked fine. I haven't dug into this to see what the update did yet, but you won't lose root as long as you use OTA root keeper and do the necessary steps to keep it before you do the update. Everyone have it!

Did you have a custom recovery installed?
I hope this doesnt mess up root bc this thing keeps pooping up on my screen. Guess ill schedule it for later but not automatic??
Not yet, just rooted .

hmm im pretty certain this OTA will fail for me since i have a custom recovery, i could be wrong though. I would like to test it out
As stated in the other thread, this does not address root or Loki. It's okay to put the Xanax down and stop freaking out.
Is this only on Verizon?

Appears so, I haven't gotten anything on T-Mobile.
Ah, damn. Rebooted for this and got stuck in the TWRP reboot loop.
Anyone figure out how to get out of that?
