I am using a 8GB SD card on my Eris. When I go to storage and check what is left it says 756mb. But when I connect it to my Mac to make a backup there is only 4.67GB on the card.
What gives?
When I delete stuff from the SD card using my USB connection on my Mac the available space on the card never increases.
I use Doubletwist (I think that is the main problem - as it never syncs only what I ask, but other stuff too) and I can delete the music to free up some space. But I still feel like there is a "trash" folder on the SD card that I need to empty.
Any Tips?
I am running workshed's CM7 GB latest rom.
Thanks!
Brad
There's no trash folder....
Is the SD card partitioned ? If there are partitions, did you possibly use the MAC to format one of the partitions and it used "HFS" for the format type ? If so, I don't think Android can read HFS but obviously the MAC can.
Hi, no I used the Droid to format the SD card and it is not partitioned. I had this problem about 2 months ago and I ended up just reformatting the card then reinstalling all the data on it. I just didn't want to have to do it again.

Flaky SD card ? I'd replace it...
Ok. It has been used for almost a year and a half. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some blinding flash of the obvious.
Thanks!

Hi, i have my HTC hero rooted with the last Villainrom 12.0.0, i recently bought a new micro sd card 32gb and i dont know why but after i transfer data to my sd card i can see it, taste it, use it with no problems, but when i put the sd card into my phone some files get missing, i dont know why, but they just dissapear, may get into some kind of trash folder hidden into the card, but they are just gone...
i tried eather mounting the sd from my phone trough USB and retrieving the card from the phone and pluging it into the sd card reader in my pc, it doesnt matter, the problem stays.
i thougt may be it was some problem with the partition, i had the partition to use apps2sd, ext3 and all the crap, but the issue was still there, then i formatted in my pc fat32, still the problem, and finally formatted trough my phone fat32 and the problem persists, i dont know if maybe some software on my phone is making this happen or anything...
i dont know what to think, i know my sd card is ok becouse i used it filled with data and had no problems before...
please help me.... im gonna cry
I have exactly the same problem with my HD2... trying to upgrade from 8bg micro SD to 2gb micro SD.... everything copies across (or so it seems) however all the files in the 'program files' folder haven't come across, nor has my TOMTOM gps folder files..... ?
I've tried everything I can think of, why can I not copy card to card via my PC.... I'm sure it was simple when I changed from 2gb to 8gb cards.
Any help very much appreciated.
Hello all!
I'm not able to post in the development forum (since I'm a noob with less than 10 posts ).
I just moved from the 182 CM7 Nightly on my Vibrant to the Passion ICS v10.
Everything is running pretty darn smooth and thing I thought i'd be missing from CM7 are not really bothering me.
The issue I'm having is with my 8GB external SD card. I'm getting the standard SD Card is empty of has an unrecognizable filesys.
1. I've tried formatting through Storage menu, recovery menu, blackberry and an adapter.
2. I've tried all the tricks on the forums.
The build is not recognizing the card for some reason. I plug the card into my Blackberry and its fine.
I took the 2GB card from the blackberry and put it in the vibrant and it immediately recognized it and mounted w/o a hitch.
Is there a size issue/bug w/ the external SD?
Have you tried taking the SD card and plugging it into your computer, and then formatting it from there?
EDIT: I just tried it with my 8GB microSD card. It looks like mine's not being recognized either.
I'm not running ICS, but maybe it just doesn't support that much on an SD? Just throwing out ideas and maybes.
That would be really silly. Not supporting 8GB SD card .
Kept trying a few more tricks. Still have the same issue.
Also, when I added the 2GB the internal unmounted. Have to go in and manually mount the internal after external mounts (just the first time).
This is a just a heads up.

Omg yes i have the same issue, but ive looked into it some more..
I have 2 128mb, a 2gb (that came with the phone) and a 4gb and 8gb sdhc of the same brand... the 8gb and one of the 128mb dont get seen (and the 128s are identical) ive tried formatting in fat16 and fat 32 and ntfs and even mac os x journaled lol and nothing worked... i then returned to cm7 and formatted from there... went back to ics passion v9.2 and then v10 and cm9 and ssame exact symptoms... so idk.. its not because of sdHC, it doesnt sseem to be filesystem and the 128mb thing just really blows my mind..
Hope we get an answer

im using an 8gb and it works just find. but to acces the files on the SDcard i look under "emmc" or "mnt/emmc" or "home/emmc" (depending on which file browser you use).

Obviously this question is turning to be a bug. There is confirmation from several users with the same problem.
I have a 4Gb micro sd Patriot and seems to be OK.
You have to look into emmc folder.
Wow , thanks for the awesome pointers that I should look into EMMC folder (sarcasm btw).
The bug is about the SD CARD NOT BEING MOUNTED and reporting as blank and having a non-supported filesystem.
The card in question works fine on the PC and 2 other phones one of the Vibrant with stock ROM.
I only want to help.
I understand your point but we want to exclude options. Can you try another SD cards in this same phone?

Bro read my earlier post, i already tried my 2 128mb cards, my 2gb, 4gb and my 8gb, and they work on all romz except that the 8gb and one 128mb do not work on ics

Me too
I'm also having this problem. Have tried multiple cards in multiple format options. None of them mount, it just gives me a "Damaged SD card" error notification when I try to mount manually. Freaking sucks I can't use my 32gb card anymore.

Have you tried smaller ones like the original 2gb that came with the phone? It should work for you
Btw, just general info, I fixed my 128mb with SD formatter program so that just leaves my 8gb unworking.. and sdformatter had no effect on the 8 gb

I had the exact problem mounted/unmounted I could still read on PC's. It seems this ICS can't handle symbols (external_sd, etc) in filenames - food for thought!

I have the same problem with ICS Passion with my 8gb Sd card.
I can see the files and open them but for an example, when trying to play them in the music player (google music or winamp) I can't.
Any Ideas on how to solve this?
Thanks...
i switched my phone on an off again.... and then all my external sd card music was gone?checked storage and my sd card was (32gb card) 29.8gb/29.8gb available?
took the card out checked on my computer and yes it is all empty! except for some android secure and lost folder android makes by itself.
no corruption message. its a lexar class 10
why/ how would this happen?
faulty sd card? phone problem? virus? Help! so i know what to do next
Did u flash a Rom with instructions how to wipe? Maybe u format the sd card then.
It happened after using it last time on PC? Maybe there's the prob.
Any special apps u use?

Look for a PC-based recovery app that can recover deleted data on SD cards, whack the SD card in a card reader attached to said PC, see if you might be able to recovery any of the erased data.
Seems your best (only) chance to me.
This works for me...

Nope i only flashed that new (at the time) 2.3.5 kernal and rooted my phone in December, and have not removed my card from my phone in a month
Trying recuva, normal scan picked up nothing, deep scan now...
done!
woohoo recuva worked. I recovered my lost files. I only put music and videos on my external sd card anyway, but i relabelled albums and artists once i transferred music to my phone. So i don't have to do that 2 hour job again.
Files not in their original folders but better then nothing.
I wonder why it happened? hmmm
thanks for the help
First of all, im using a 4.1.2 stock and my device is rooted
So i had an Sandisk 64 GB class 10 for some time which one day became a "read - only" card...
So afterwards i bought a Samsung 32 GB class 10 which I found out also had problems because i could put about 10GB of files and everything more that 10 GB turned into wierd folders that their name starts with "μ" and there where no actual content inside and i couldn't delete them.
So now i'm at my third try, again with a Samsung 32 GB class 10 which also has the same problem, only now i can write on it about 20 GB of data before files start to get curropted.
Just want to say i bought all 3 SD card from Ebay, and though i guess they might be fake (tons of bad luck), after searching the web I found out there are many GS3 users with the same problem...
So i just want to put an end for this question..
Is GS3 frying SD cards? is there something i can do to stop it from destroying SD cards? can i fix somehow the SD cards?
thanks alot!
Hi! when you are asking a question you should include details such as operating system(4.1.2 , 4.3, 4.4, stock, rooted and so on) and file system. I noticed while searching google that the majority of "s3 fried sd cards" so to speak are sandisk and in your case it seams that there is no such "limitation". Maybe if you give more details someone might be able to help.

Well, I edited my post.
you can see the first lines contains the detailes you described.
can't think of any other relevant details.
What type of file system do you have on sd card? is it fat32 or Ext4?

not sure. I formated it with my GS3 and the computer won't recognize it without reformating it.
Worst case scenario is your phone somehow corrupted the sd card and that is that. I had a similar problem with my usb flash drive which i used on-the-go and unmounted it before removing it but when it happened i didn't make a backup(as always) and got stuck with a nice keychain. If you have the possibility to format it under windows with a card reader and choose fat32 at least you have a working sd card, otherwise use your warranty for the sd card(if you have one) and always BACKUP.

but do you think that my device is malfunctuning in a way that will keep frying my SD cards..?
well since this is the second sd card i personally send it on warranty(as hard as it may be without the phone) because it seems that something is not right with the contacts of the card reader circuit board. I read somewhere that on some phones the card reader slot had some contacts partially detached and so the sd card kept getting corrupted. Search a bit on google about this issue and take into consideration using your phone's warranty. Best of luck!
That is a bit strange. Unless you're used to remove the sd card with the phone accesing to it (no safe removing) or removing the battery while the phone is running, that's absolutely not normal.
I have my 32GB sd since 2010 and I never had any problem. I formatted it this year because it had tons of useless data and I liked to have it clean.
Of course it's not from Ebay! That is bulls**t and use to fail suddenly.
I have a S9+. I've had it almost a year now. But I never put an SD card in it until recently. So I was trying to move some stuff over to the SD card to make space on my phone.
Well I moved my music and 1 app but now anything I try to move, it says that there is not enough space. Yet when I look it says only 1GB is used out of 29GB. So why is it telling me there is not enuff space??
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Don't know. Could try reformating sd card in windows or on phone. Backup sd card first if need be.
Whenever I bought new sdcard, I always tested on laptop to copy 80% capacity to it. There're many counterfeit, I just can't risk dumping valuable files on it. Try copying 25GB random files from laptop.

I have used the card in previous phones and it worked fine. I did format before using in my new phone.
