Hey whats up, I have been doing root stuff for a while since droid 1 but i have come to a fork in the road and am confused exactly where to go.
with the droid 1, things were pretty straight forward and clear on what to update and when.
i have a thunderbolt, rooted a week after i bought it on day 1. running the rom that came with the root method.
baseband - 1.16.00.0223r
build - 1.12.605.6 CL338893 release keys
software - 1.12.605.6
kernel - leanKernel
what exactly (links?) do i need to update to get most up to date. radios...software.. etc
thanks
greg
For radio just go to the radio thread and take the latest. For software is all Rom dependent but if you are on stock Rom look for plain Jane ad that is the base Rom with updated software.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
what about the OTA that came out..
so flash... new radio.. OTA (leak or official root version) and new rom..to have latest software
correcto?
-update-- so many options for radios... post updated as of today ..he has like 8 diff choices ha

Looks like the Telus website is ready for the Gingerbread 2.3 update...
Durr: add https and www . telusmobility.com/en/ON/Samsung-Galaxy-S-Fascinate/how-to-002921.shtml
Now if only they'd actually release it
From the page:
As of July 2011, a new firmware version is available for the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+. Before you update your smartphone, you need to know your current firmware version.
From the Home screen, tap Applications.
Tap Settings.
Select About phone.
You don't need an upgrade if the:
Firmware version is 2.3.3
Build number is GINGERBREAD.LKF9.
Interesting...the actual update page still says update to 2.2 and takes you to a page about updating to 2.2...of course a couple of weeks ago the update page listed 2.3 but had a dead link...so maybe its actually going to happen in our lifetime
have you tried connecting to kies to see if there's anything there??
Theres a new version of kies on samsung apps today but it didn't get me gingerbread yet. new version is Kies_2.0.2.11071_128_2
Yea.. I updated Kies and still nothing.. hopefully soon.. I grow anxious
I've been totally OCD about update checks lately. I'm driving myself nuts
I was the same way when i first say the update now for 2.3.4 on the update page a few weeks ago...gave up when they switched it back to a link to the 2.2 update...now i think it will be back to a nightly check
interesting, kies is suddenly only reporting my current firmware version and not saying that it's the current one... but not offering anything new yet, hopefully it's a sign of a release and not just a glitch

Yea.. I noticed that too. I suspect that the server it checks is just not responding, but... fingers crossed
Just checked again.. back to normal. Hopes dashed. :/
That makes me a saaaaaaaaaaaaaad panda
I think they just like toying with us
They're mean now that bell has the SII, it might be time to loose telus.
wow
Been waiting for this myself - checked the NS page and there is an annoucement to get the latest as well. Hopefully I don't have to unroot or disable lagfix before trying ... might disable the lagfix regardless though since that appears to be best practice with any ROM.
Tried but also getting the 'you have the latest firmware' message ... doh!
I gave it a shot, I'm running Bionix-V 1.3.1, and it came up with the message "incompatible device" looks like you'll have to downgrade to the stock rom anyways
..double post, I have no idea how to delete

out of curiosity, why not just install one of the many custom gingerbread roms out there? they're no longer the bug-ridden hack-fest they were a few months ago. seeing as some of you already are rooted or running a custom rom, i'm interested to know why wait for stock?
i do understand some people prefer to keep their phones in stock and i respect their decision.
edit: i'm personally running Darky's Rom 10.2 on my T959D. Tried CM7 (nightly 67) before as well, and although that was a headache to set up on my fascinate, it was also nice to see the differences between a samsung and aosp rom.

Second that - what has made me gun shy is that the Telus Fascinate is actually more like a vibrant or i9000 - so custom ROMs have some risk.
That being said heard so many great things about Darky's - would love a how to from someone with our phone and how it is working ...
Heard from Samsung
Apparently not ready but its weeks away, not months.
Hello everyone. As the title states, I'm looking to update a bit and I'm not really sure how. I'm not S-off yet, just on the old ICS leak with CleanRom 4.3. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
I wound guess run the new leak ruu then there is a new firmware patch in the firmware and radio thread in the dev section. That should do it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Stick to what you got for now. Only changes were an updated kernel & hboot, which from my very short testing didn't play out too too well with the current roms. So just waiting for a rebase or OTA+rebase.
The main reason I was wondering is because I'm having battery life/heat issues with the old leak and was hoping this would improve it a bit.
Nils posted a kernel zip on his business ics thread. The kernel is more or less what was updated ib the latest leak. The radio in the last leak is the same as the latest. This should help you out with your heat issues.
Hey guys, been awhile but i want to come back to Android for awhile. I have had the Evo 4G since release but went to an iPhone for work. If i could have a super quick refresher course I would appreciate it. I'll post below where I'm currently at if I could just get a point in the next step. I know all my stuff is way out dated.
Stock w/goodies 2.01 (not even sure if it's still supported)
Kernel 3.0.8 (not even sure if it's custom or stock to be honest)
baseband 1.12.11.0809
build 2.13.651.1
PRI 2.45_003
PRL 25006
S-Off HBOOT 1.12.222 btw
Yes I am fully aware of the search option but it's so cluttered unless you asked the right questions lol. If I could get a point in the right direction i don't mid doing the leg work. thanks and good to finally be back on Android!!

First of all you have missed a couple firmware updates, but since you are s-off head to captains thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612) and do one firmware update at a time, note that the latest update 3.16 comes without the touch panel driver update this because AOSP Roms and some old TWRP versions don't work with this new touch panel update you need to be on the 3.15 touch panel driver, if you are going to use stock with goodies I suggest you do this update, your touch panel willl be more responsive, by the way you should update TWRP as well the new version is 2.5. Navigation doesn't work on some jelly bean roms on some phones, it just crashes, no fix as of today, use telenav, waze or scout

I suggest to stick with a 2.3.5 ROM or go with CM 7, which is 2.3.7. Gingerbread is the most stable and everything for the most part works. ICS and JB are not really worth it due to not having the Motorola Graphics Drivers for ICS or JB. Too many issues to make it really a daily driver unless you like bugs and lots of force close issues due to the driver issue. Maybe someday but I doubt it since we really have no developers left, the Motorola Atrix driver that was created from scratch, will get ported to the Photon. Then and only then will ICS or JB be worth the flash. The ROM in my signature, 2.3.5, is one of the best in my opinion and one of the most stable, everything works. I have given ICS and JB ROMs a try but keep going back to GB as they are more stable. Even CyanMobile is a good GB ROM, the most options of any rom for a 2.3.5 ROM. The only issue I had with it was the "Sleep Screen of Death" and it would never wake-up. I then had to wipe the cache and dalvik cache to get it to boot again. That would happen a few times a day but then again I am non a Motorola Electrify and it was build for a Photon. Good luck in your choice but don't expect much support as development is pretty much gone and it does not seem there are even many users left.
I plan to get a new phone in the near future and will be not hanging around this section much, sadly I believe I will get the Moto X and its new and there will be a lot of development going on for a new popular phone.

Sorry but the fact that you have the Android 2.3.5 version means that your bootloader is locked forever. You can only unlock your bootloader if you have Android 2.3.4. What Sprint did with the Android 2.3.5 update is lock your bootloader plus they added some small features for the camera. Of course in the release notes, Sprint won't highlight the fact that locking the bootloader was part of the Android 2.3.5 upgrade.
You just have to go find a phone that has Android 2.3.4 still installed and immediately unlock your bootloader.
an other Q is that any idea to enhance the camera pictures quality (i.e is too bad----)
Beanstalk 4.2.2 is almost completely stable as long as you freeze contact storage... And bluetooth is broken... But it's smooth

JB 4.1.2 is the latest official release from Moto.
If you wish to use custom ROM, then there are plenty of KK based ROMs in dev section.
But first you need to update to JB or ICS at least.
