[Q] Cyanogen 7 stops booting after Wipe Cache partition - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a working Cyanogen 7 flashed on the gTablet. And due to enthusiasm, I updated with one of the nightly builds and started seeing some issues.
I assumed that clearing the cache and rebooting would help and ended up doing the 'Wipe Cache Partition'. Now the tablet wont boot at all. But I guess its not bricked at all since I am able to get to CWM.
What do I need now to get back to CM7?
Also my search on what the 'wipe cache partition' function doesn't give me the full picture. Now I know that I shouldn't have done it in the first place. But being affected by it I request if one the Gurus on XDA's please shed some lite.
Regards and thanks for the help in advance.

Hopefully a guru can answer this question. A guru I am not..
But what I think you did should not be an issue. I typically wipe data and then wipe cache partition when flashing a new ROM. sometimes I wipe cache and data just to get the ROM running from scratch again. But this should not affect booting..
One thing I think might be the problem is that you have a new kernel from one of the newer nightlys. Recently they added perhsoots May kernel. Whenever a new kernel is included in a nightly you usually need to clear dalvik cache. this is in CWM under advanced.
I hope this helps.

Tried clearing dalvik cache. No change.
Going back to stock and see.

Copied the stock ROM file and used the CWM to do the update. Now the g Tablet is gioing into a Boot loop. It Tap n Tap then displays a animated icon and after a minute repeats the same.
Tried the recovery option and its going into an installing loop again. Not sure how to get out of this.
Does anybody have this experience before?
Is this bricked now? Call viewsonic support? I am not sure if they support, They may say its nor under warranty.

Just to remind you, the last effort to resolve this is to NVFLash it...
Have you tried CWM method twice or repartition it and do it again? It's a tablet for you to enjoy your Internet, reading, video but not flashing all day long..etc
To pass it quick, if I were you, I would NVFlash it back to 3588, put back my favorite ROM, reinstall the Apps I like and start Internet browsing, converting movie (so I can watch on the road), reading news...
good luck!

After this I definitely agree. But seems I am stuck again. Hope this is the last time.
I followed the steps as in the below URL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1040434.html
My PC successfully connected to the gTablet and did the bvflash. After that I booted, it still went into the same. I am not sure if the nvflash worked at all.
Not sure what I am missing here!

Called Viewsonic support and the tech support person pointed me to below post on XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036956
When I read the article it talks about a locked boot loader. Does is mean if I use this and fix the tablet, I will not be able to do any more rooting?

So you also tried the alternate file, nvflash_gtablet_46_2010112600.zip? That's what worked for me, but I also have to swap partitions 7 & 8 to get CM7 working again.
Since I'm a glutton for punishment, I wiped my cache from nightly 75 and didn't run into any problem.

Just downloaded the alternate zip and flashed again. Having the same looping issue.
Seems like I Have to send it to viewsonic only. The technician said there is a $75 charge to fix.

[Q] Problem Installing New Vegan Ginger

OK i have to say i m not a noob anymore. And i m pretty confident.
Having said I am coming from Vegan 5.1 and tried many times to download the new Vegan Ginger. But each time I got stuck at the "birds" screen.
And yea I do all the same steps for when i was ROMing to Vegan 5.1
So my questions are: why isn't it working this time?
Do i have to be on Stock Rom for it to work?
Any suggestion?
Thank you
Its always a good idea to start from stock and then going to custom rom. I suggest you use nvFlash to go back to stock, then flash cwm .8 and then try to follow your steps to install it.
enjoy
Best way to flash a new rom is to fully wipe data cache dalvik ect ect do that in cwm then install zip from disk. Works every time and usely it take like ten minites to fully install. If you need help just look around or ask.
Good luck
Awessssoooommmee
You guys are awesome
I just Nvflash and Install the ginger edition easily
Thank youuuuu
I'm having the exact same problem. Even fully wipe data, cache and davik does not help.
I noticed that, when ClockworkMod Recovery showed that it was installing update, the progress bar stayed grey, not changing or moving at all.
Guess I'll have to try nvflash.
Yeah do that

Yea do that, cause it looks like this ONLY works on stock rom. And after that just do your usual process, and you should be good.
Everything went so well that my first boot took less than a minute

Vegan Ginger Edition - Endless Reboot

I had Vegan Ginger Edition running and it was working great. I decided to Factory Reset the tablet. I used Settings|Privacy|Factory Reset.
But it went into endless reboots, I think. What it was doing is that the screen that says Vegan Tab Ginger Edition comes and it does the animation (shocking and flashing), and it does this like 3 times and then the screen goes blank for a second or so and then the animation starts again, and so on, and it keeps on repeating forever and then it would turn off automatically.
I booted into recovery Clockwork Recovery, and tried to do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, etc, but nothing helped.
I eventually ended up in doing Wipe Dalvik Cache. Now it does not even get to that Vegan Tab animation. It now gets stuck at "Powered by G-TABDEVS" screen.
Any suggestions? Do I need to re-install? If so I guess I will have to copy the zip to SDCARD and then install it, since I can't boot at all. Is there any other option?
Ya, just reflash vegan ginger.
I reflashed it. It now moves on and does not stop at G-TABDEVS screen, but it is exhibiting the same problem. Repeated VEGAN-TAB GingerEdition screens.
What do I do?
I just flashed CyanogenMod, and even that exhibits the same issue. I even went in and did mounts and storage>format system as well as format data. And then flashed it. But still the same.
More bad news. I nvflashed bekit's original image. It now is showing the original big eliptical g-tablet logo as it boots up, but it continues to cycle between the birds and the gtablet logo.
CWM is also gone. When I try to go into recovery all it displays is the big triangle with exclamation sign for a second or so and then restarts the tablet going back into the endless cycle.
I am now totally stuck. Please help.
have you ever repartitioned your device using Clockworkmod Recovery?
I've seen the tablet just bootloop on the bootanimiation if you have never repartitioned. Mine did it and so did a friends of mine. Tablet working great for weeks, installed different ROMs then one day a reboot and it just loops the bootanimation. Repartitioned in CWM (2048/0) and the problem never returned.
Of course you need to get CWM back on. Read the threads on NVFlash and you should be able to just nvflash the clockwork image to the device to boot in to CWM. Repartition and reinstall your ROM.

Thank you so much. I got out of this mess. I clearly remember repartitioning 2048/0, but looks like Android Factory Reset corrupted it or something.

Hahaaha, and for the record, my start here page code double red takes care of your problem. Not only that, I've also provided nvflash files with cwm pre-installed.
I swear, it's like people don't read the directions properly anymore.

Hey goodintentions, I know you have good intentions , but I have been working with gtablet mods for quite some time now. Usually when you have a bricked gtablet, you are desperately looking for a solution. That's why I hopped from Vegan to Cyanogen to stock etc within an hour or so. And when you have been working on things for some time, you tend to not look at anything that says "start here". Honestly I had never seen your page before, which by the way is pretty good and would have been a life saver if I had known it.
I wonder... what should I name the page as?
I promise you, my instructions work for 99% of the problems people encounter.

Need help with booting

hey guys, been here since the launch of evo. rooting, flashing, everything.
today i wanted to switch roms. so i went about my normal process...
d/l new ROM
backup current ROM
backup apps
wipe cache and dalvic
flash new ROM
i got stuck on the last step. i went to flash the new ROM (nocturnal 1.3)
it said something along the lines of blah blah is already unmounted. i didnt pay too much attention to it because i was going to restart and try again. long story short, it will only boot to htc white screen and nothing else.
can anyone help me out?
p.s. im on clockwork recovery
PLEASE CLOSE
did you not wipe system and data? I am not super skilled, but maybe it tried to stick the entire ROM into the left over space of the last ROM that is still on there?
It won't boot to recovery? It should boot to recovery

The error message you received is going to be the key to understanding the issue that occured. When it says unmounted, it is referring to a specific partition, either /data or /system most likely.
For starters, when it hangs on the htc white screen, this is usually either a kernel or ramdisk issue. If the kernel is known to be good, then it is probably a ramdisk issue. most ramdisk issues relate to a mismatch/incompatibility between the loaded kernel and the ROM.
First suggestion would be to reflash the ROM, clearing /cache and /data.
Second suggestion would be to restore a backup. This will confirm there is nothing wrong with your device hardware wise and you'll know it is a specific issue with the ROM you wanted to load.
Third suggestion, find the exact error, word for word, which occured in recovery and post up in the ROM thread asking if other users of that ROM also encountered, how they handled. Also feel free to post back up here.
When writing the programming behind a custom recovery, the error messages are added in there to help allow users and developers better knowledge of the exact issue so they can work to resolve them. Without the exact error message, it is similar to going to a car shop and saying, some light came on my dash, but I don't know what it was and now the car doesn't work. Fix it? Another words, it is very vague.
Hope the suggestions and tips help! Good luck!
my first instinct was to reflash the backup or new rom again but it wont boot to any rom, recovery or bootloader. it just hangs on the htc white screen
idk what happened but i got into the bootloader through battery pull, power+vol down. i know ive tried that in the past but this time it worked. now im restoring a nandroid from yesterday

You missed a step. After you wipe dalvik and cache, you ALWAYS need to wipe /system and /data, do a factory reset to make sure, or download a superwipe tool. The ONLY time you don't need to wipe completely is when you're updating your ROM, but even then it is recommended to wipe everything.

[Q] Noob Issues

Yes I am new to rooting droids, but I am not illiterate in this subject. However, I am pregnant, and over emotional and possibly losing my mind because I can't get my phone to work. (Sounds like a noob issue right?!)
I have a droid 2, latest update, blahblah.
I rooted it, no problem, got good instructions from here, downloaded ROM manager, and Bootstrap. I downloaded Liquid Dream ROM. Flashed Clockwork, and rebooted. ROM seemed to download onto the device fine, finished rebooting and now it plays the Liquid Dream animation on start up over and over. Currently I am in reboot mode but I am stuck, I don't know where to go from here (because I am a noob, I know). So I'm hope full that someone with a lot more knowledge on this can help me out, so I don't totally lose my mind. Thanks for your time future person who helps me! (I hope)
did you wipe all the data/cache and davlik prior to installing a new rom. When ever changing roms, you need to clear out the old data.
go into fastboot, clear data/cache and under advance clear dalvik.
try that.

Well, something probably didnĀ“t upload ok. So, what you have to do know is: make sure the .zip file in the sdcard is not corrupted. In order to make sure of that, you can try to download it again (you will need an sdcard reader). Then, when you have already the .zip file in the sdcard, boot into recovery. From boot loop the best way is to boot the phone pressing power + volumen down, then choose recovery from the hboot menu. Once you are in the CWM recovery menu, do a wipe data / factory reset. wipe cache partion and format system.
When that is done, you are able to flash the zip file from install .zip from sdcard choice. That should work and get your cell back to life.
It might be Clockwork. There have been some issues with it. If none of the above suggestions work, try getting Amon Ra.
If ClockWorkMod does not work you can try flashing the 4EXT recovery...works smoothly at least in my Inspire 4G.

[Q] Newly Androwook flashed Rom, stuck at intro crawl

Greetings
As the tittle points outs, I flashed the latest Androwook Rom(2.1) and it always stucks at the Intro Crawl. I re-downloaded it, flashed it again, but had had no success.
The Prime has been unlocked since May, and it was running the Cyanogen Nightly Rom, before I tried the Wook one. I wiped Cache and Delvik, and tried an older build as well with no success. I use the latest TWRP, 2.1.3. I also tried all availlable kernels and options during the installation with no success.
Can anyone give me a hint as to what is the problem? I can always go back to CM Rom, but I would feel like I accepted defeat.
Also, why does the installation always wipe my internal sd card , when no such option is selected?

jumping from one rom to another needs a full wipe i guess... when you said wiping your internal sd card, that's the reason why you're stuck into crawling? so i guess you use adb to push the ROM, then flash again?
in my case, when i had a bootlop, i push fullwipe.zip first, flash it, then push Androwook.zip, then flash it... it all came back alive..
First of all, thank you for your reply!

After the first three unsuccessfull attempt to flash the ROM did I wipe my internal SD, so it isn't the crawling looping intro's problem. And yes, I push ROMs via Adb, and trying flashing.

That was actually the last step I tried before asking for help. Even after I typed this post, I did it again. Flashed it, pushed AW, and flashed again. No success.
*Edit: I have forgotten a primary Troubleshooting technique. Downloading AW2.1 from a different source, will update.
sorry but im not much of a help i can see... hope somebody could. don't lose hope though...
Intentions matter
Thanks for your time anyway!
After two more failed flashes, I got it to boot!
Apparently the starting animation was causing some kind of problem, which I cannot ever imagine. After I checked the option to have the uggly original boot animation, the rom booted normally and I am now using it.
I am quite happy to get it to work, but if anyone has any solution to the boot problem, I would be really glad to hear him!

Hello Everybody! Guys, sorry for my english!!!!!
First of all, I have to present myself, my name is Marco, I'm italian, 25 years old and I'm in the Android world since about 12 Years.
I started whit a Galaxy S2, and after I bought an Asus Transformer Prime.
After just two week, I decided to put in a Custom ROM, on my devices, and I understood how the system work better instead of a Stock ROM!
And after, I understood, how the XDA Developers Forum is important for me, and expecially for all the people who like to learn about the Android World.
So, I just want to Thanks with all of you for the support that i receive EVERY DAY to solve my problems!
One of these was with flashing the Androwook, weeks ago I flashed the Team EOS 2.0, that was really amazing, but after a While, I found some slowdowns in some action on the system, so i decided to try a rom based on the stock rom, but with improvement and tweaks, so what's better then the Androwook?
The problem was, the same explained on this post, after all wipes, the prime was not boot, and stuck in bootanimation!
I solved, checking the box "Install custom ROM" as drsane1984 have done, and now the ROM is booted perfectly!!
Thanks another time! I'am convinced that if you are able to seach, you'll find for sure the solution to your problems! If not, just ask!
Bye!
