Sense 2.1? - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyone attempting to port sense 2.1 out there? Not trying to be a rush but we got so few roms and a few just outright suck.

How do they suck? We have Stock sense froyo, cm6, cm7. And all of these are very stable roms
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

I like Gene Poole's Lib Aria 2.2.2.
Can you tell me how different is Sense 2.1 from Sense 2.0?

Ditto, I fail to see how they suck. We have a wide variety of roms that are all really nice. Sense 2.1 would just be filling a very specific niche.

Well for one, HTC messages app does not organize messages right. Two, they're all really bland and devoid of any elegance we novices cannot add. Three, we have such a low number.

OK, so you dislike the HTC message app. We have 2 different versions of CyanogenMod for the Aria; CM 6.1 is an ASOP Froyo ROM and CM 7.0 is an ASOP Gingerbread ROM Neither one of these has a trace of HTC Sense in them.
The beauty of Android is that the Market Place is full of apps and themes that even novices can use to customize the phone to your hearts content. I suggest you get more familiar with exactly what can be done to customize your phone and quit relying on someone else to customize a ROM for you.

Well actually I like sense, but the messages app kills the joy of it. I had cm7 and I enjoyed it. My only problem is it is so bland. Even with customization. If there was a messages app fix, I'd be happy enough.

Have you tried gosms? It's all I use and I change the look at least weekly.if you can't customize IT to your liking then nothing will ever satisfy you.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

There are so many messaging apps out there.
Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA App

It does not fix the sms problem. I always used it on cm7 but it doesn't fix my sense issue.

Try handcent, it fixed my sms issues. The messaging app was the only thing I had a problem with on sense roms.

[Q] Bionix 1.2.1?

Hey guys I'm running Bionix V right now but I'm going to update to V 1.2.1.
So I'm wondering what the differences are between the 'Gingerbread' and the 'Touchwiz' editions? And in your opinions which is better and why?
I would just flash both of them to find out myself but I hate having to import my contacts, apps, sms/mms, and other things individually everytime. Unless you know of an app that makes it quick and easy to do all at once.
If someone could explain the differences I think I could make the right choice the first time
Thanks
Edit:
Also I've been hearing good/maybe bad things about V 1.2.1
Should users upgrade or stay with V? I'll keep you posted when I upgrade I've been a little busy lately
The difference is how the phone looks. When you hit the home button, your desktop, or launcher, has icons, widgets, etc.
The gingerbread one looks like standard, non themed gingerbread.
TouchWiz looks more like your vibrant did out of the box. I personally find it incredibly ugly so I prefer the gingerbread theme.

Can you still use launcherpro with the gingerbread version?

Yes you can use any home launcher you choose

Yes, I have been. I really don't think it matters which one you install if you're planning on installing a 3rd party launcher, anyway.

Oh really the only difference between the touchwiz and gingerbread is the launcher?
And how customizable are each of them and maybe I wouldn't need a third party launcher?

The only advantage I can think of for using touchwiz is that it comes with the Samsung apps installed as well.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
That's what I want to get rid of. All the apps like mobileTV, amazon, kindle, all the bloatware.
So gingerbread is the way I should go?

I'm not sure if it comes with the bloatware, but it would come with the Samsung widgets that are available using TouchWiz. (One example is the "Friends" widget that updates facebook and twitter)
But if you're planning on using LauncherPro or any other launcher, all of this is moot anyway. I'd recommend the Gingerbread version because I like the notification bar and stock android is so much better looking than TouchWiz in every aspect.
EDIT: You asked earlier how to import contacts and things; you should sync them with Google as it makes the transition between ROMs seamless. Also, Titanium Backup can backup and restore all of your apps and data. (This excludes SMS). Finally, I use SMS backup to backup all of my texts/MMS to gmail for safekeeping
Thanks wearmaize
I'll go with gingerbread. I use sms and titanium backup they work great.
But last time I synced with google it didn't save all my contacts when I flashed so I don't know if somethings wrong or I'm doing it wrong

I have been hearing conflicting posts about the new Bionix version...I think i'll just stick with V

Next time you sync with google, check your contacts online using a computer to make sure they're all there.
As for Bionix, I'd recommend v 1.2 or v 1.2.1. I find v 1.2 to be the most stable, but I've only been on v 1.2.1 for a day so I can't really say for sure. Both are great.

Bionix 1.2.1 is nice, worthile upgrading I can see

Which dialer app is the best

I'm using cm7 now, I want to install some T9 Dialer app like Htc Dialer on it. Youlu is a good dialer, but I don't like it's SMS function. Are there any other quick response dialer apps for CM7?

Dialer One!
I thought dialer one was sluggish. Try ray dialer.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Thanks. I liked Ray dialer.
I personally am happy with the stock HTC dialler. Although, I've never really properly tried any other Diallers.
You mean you are using htc stock dialer on cm7 rom? I think htc dialer is the best, but couldn't install it on cm7.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Yes the stick dialler. Sorry my device is stupidly on 2.2 so its not rooted. Can't help there.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Stock HTC dialer is limited to copy paste and edit number in comparison to AOSP GB stock dialer, which is by far better!

DialerOne never worked for me. Too sluggish, as everyone has pointed out.
You could also try Dialer2 and TouchPal Smart Dialer. Both good alternatives. (TouchPal FC's on CM7, worked flawless on all previous ROMs tried. So if you not using CM7, you should be good)
EDIT: I am always on the lookout for good T9 dialers like the HTC Sense one. Just now I found, these two "Contapps", and "AContact- Smart Contact". Contapps feels heavy on resources but AContact looks refreshing. Very good concept. Try it out.
But I still miss the HTC call sceen with a bigger contact picture (FB synced) with FB/ twitter status message.
what about youlu? it looks quite neat. i've been using it for a few days, so far so good.
For me TouchPal dialer works just fine. It's great.

some dialers want to format numbers with dashes by force, touchpal is one of them. if your numbers aren't their form it's a quite boring situation.
edit: changing locale from usa to uk solves the dash problem. so, touchpal is a great dialer too
have you tried Go Contacts ?

Yes Now I've use it with CM7.1RC1 and Go Dialer.
I'm using Ruymanca Hell Fire with Touch Pal

best choice so far
back again to touchpal. it's faster than go and youlu. its vibration options are also nice. if you use minicm you don't need it, i think.

smooth scroll in app list like og evo??

I've searched around and can't find an answer so it would be great if someone could help or point me in the right direction.
When you in the app menu/app list on the e3d its a page scroll, no more no less... with the og evo it was a smooth scroll and speed determined by strength of the finger slide.... anyway to get that on the evo3d?
Thanks!
That's because the 3vo is Gingerbread and the Evo was Froyo. If you upgraded your Evo to GB than its app drawer would behave the same as the 3vo.
gotcha, that makes sense. well, anyway to get that scroll back??
It is sense 3.0. No way to change it as of now. Not sure if a custom rom will do it either once full root is achieved. Best thing to do is use another launcher like launcher pro, adw, etc. You will lose all your sense Widgets tho. Only way around it right now

You can hit menu in the app drawer and use a list type with a smooth scroll and scroll bar
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Download adw ex. Way better than sense and battery smooth

Maybe if you upgraded to Mikfroyo or another Sense 2.1+ ROM. The stock update didn't do this, it's because of Sense 3 not Android 2.3...
when we get full root, it will be possible to diable the "pagination" in the apps list.
a patch for that has been available on Synergy rom for the Evo 4G, and could very possibly be ported to the Evo 3D

Help with CM7. <<PORTING STUFF>>

Hey. I really love cm7 for the speed and stuff, but there is TWO things that I miss. Sense dialer and contacs. Is it possible to port them?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Nope. It needs the Sense Framework, and if you get that, you have a Sense ROM.
Damn thats sad. :s any other dialer&contact apps? That would not lag. Because rocket dialer does lag like s***.

There's a discussion thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964942
You can go through that. I don't use 3rd party dialers, and have gotten used to the CM7 one.
Thank you!

Question about HTC sense! Fail.or no.? I think.so

So what happened to the scrollable wall papers the old android use to have ?i have to use go launcher to get it back?
Was this something another company buzzkilled HTC about it ?I've always wanted to know wtf happen to that because that's actually what caught my eye at first with ios vs android
Don't flame me I don't know I'm just asking lol hopefully no apple fan boys get butthurt about this lol

The carousel feature wouldn't function properly. A static background was needed.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Fail or no? I'd say no, Sense is brilliant.
Sense is great and cool, mate.. I love htc sense is make me really different with any other Android user..
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using XDA
Yeah the sense is pretty good it just looks dull to me I guess until we get ics it will still look like android 0.9 lmfao joking
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
my argument with sense has always been simply this... it is a good platform, but it is just BOGGED by apps and widgets that hog space on the device. I don't need a billion different weather wallpapers, calendar widgets, music widgets, bookmark widgets, message widgets, etc... leave all that garbage out, let me download extra stuff that i want, and give me more dedicated space in the data/app partition.
i absolutely love the lockscreen UI, though. and the interaction you can have with it.
