[Q] import bookmarks into standard browswer? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to import bookmarks from a desktop browser (any really, I'll work out the conversion) or from an html/xml file into the standard browser on the SGS2 (Internet app) in a way the retains folder structure? All of the methods I've tried (e.g., MyBookmarks, GMarks, importing into Dolphin browser and then exporting) at best manage to put the bookmarks into "Most visited" as a flat list. Kies can create bookmarks but, as far as I can tell, only one at a time, and there's no way to create folders. The app itself can create folders but there doesn't seem to be a way to import bookmarks. Any ideas?

Work around i used on SGS 1 was to save bookmarks on PC as html .
Copy that to a folder on SD card open that html bookmark file load the relevant site and then bookmark it in the phone .
Import bookmarks never got that to work .
However the same method may work with Dolphin use the Dolphin Bookmarks to SD app save existing bookmarks this creates a folder .
Navigate to Tunny Browser file open open bookmarks and paste in bookmarks from PC .

I use google chrome on my desktop, so I use this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.h.chromemarks&feature=search_result 'ChromeMarks' to sync my bookmarks.
Then I just open up the app on my phone, and upon clicking on a bookmark, it will ask my which browser to use. You can select a default action aswell, so it just goes straight to browser A forexample.

Ok just tested this method copy bookmarks to phone from PC into Dolphin Browser .
Install Dolphin Bookmarks to SD from market .
Run app and export bookmarks to create folder bookmarks .
On PC save bookmarks as bookmarks.html .
Copy to phone Via USB Dropbox Wifi whatever . to internal sd card Tunny Browser Bookmarks folder .
Open Bookmarks to SD and Import selection the file you just copied across .
Worked with my two hundred odd bookmarks .

Very interested in everyone's comments and experience on this thread as I'm a browser addict and the good rendering speed was a big part of the reason why I bought an SGS2.
I tried Chrome to phone, Dolphin Bookmark Sync and Firefox Sync plugin all to no avail. It's not that they don't work, it's just that CtP will just create an app with no true integration with your mobile browser, Dolphin doesn't support subfolders and neither does FF.
In fact, the 'best' solution I found was to *gasp* switch from Chrome to Opera on my two desktops, enable OperaSync and now I can use opera mobile on android with all the bookmarks synced between the 3 devices.
Interestingly, Opera is also the only mobile browser to support ALL of the following: 'open in background tab' type click, proper UA spoofing and subfolders in bookmarks, and sync of course.
I can't wait for the next release of Android to come out - hopefully they will make a 'chrome-like' something the default browser and enable a sync over the cloud.
What do you guys think?

Yes, this does work well - thanks. The other (similar) possibility that works is to use Firefox Sync within Firefox Mobile and the desktop client. I don't really like the mobile version, though. Opera Mobile is better, but I was (am) really hoping to use the native browser.

[Q] How do I load my favs on the G tab ??

Hi
First time question about how do I load my internet favorite short cuts onto the G Tablet ?
I tried doing it with a UBS mini drive & thought they went but did not find them on the GTablet.
This is no problem moving them from desk top to lap top & sharing them with friends.
Your suggestions please.
Thanks !!
Are you talking about bookmarks? If so, I just synced my Google Bookmarks with Dolphin HD. Got this from another forum and it worked perfectly:
First, you need the "Bookmarks to SD" add-on for Dolphin, available from the market. Download and install it.
Open Dolphin then Menu > More > Settings > Add-ons Management > Bookmarks to SD
Select Sync from the top of the screen and then choose the first option to sync Dolphin bookmarks to Gmail.
Sign in to your Gmail account and the Dolphin bookmarks are sent to your account.
Then choose the second option to sync Gmail bookmarks to your stock web browser.
Exit Dolphin and add the LauncherPro bookmarks widget to a homescreen.
From any homescreen choose Menu > Preferences [not Settings] > LP Widget Settings > Bookmarks Widget > Get missing thumbnails.
Your phone will now grab thumbnails for your bookmarks.
On the LaucherPro bookmarks widget, press the sync icon at the bottom of the screen and all Dolphin bookmarks are now scrollable in the LP widget

I am not looking to do this from a phone but from my desktop to a USB thumb drive to the GTab, if possible.
Any ideas out there ?
Thanks.

You can do this directly from a desktop to your Gtab using the method I posted above. No need for a thumb drive.
I am really wondering if there might be a simpler way to do this ?
If I put them onto a SD mini drive from my desktop, which is Window, & use the SD mini drive in the GTablet will it recognize this Windows based info & install it ?
Thanks !!
Not sure. You can give it a shot. I found the other way pretty simple and it only took me a couple of minutes.

You don't say what browser you are using on tab or PC. If you use Firefox on both there is a sync app.

You dont need any app to sync if you have firefox on both. The sync is built into both the desktop and mobile versions of the browser.

[Q] Sync bookmarks across platforms & browsers

Hello
I'm currently using Firefox 11 as my computer browser, MIUI (GB version) Stock browser on my EVO 3D phone, and ICS Browser+ on my Transformer Prime tablet, and i've come across a problem.
I can't seem to sync my bookmarks properly.
I've been able to easily sync calendar, contacts, etc with my gmail.com account and such, but I absolutely refuse to use Chrome as my browser just for the sync ability.
So i've come here to ask if anyone has a solution to my problem?
I'd like to be able to sync between all 3 devices if possible (If not possible, at least sync between Firefox 11 on my computer and ICS Browser+ on my tablet?)

Export your bookmarks from Firefox, a HTML file will be created. Try to restore that file using an app like Bookmarks backup&restore

[Q] How to sync "mobile bookmarks" in Chrome for Android?

I have three root folders in Chrome for Android: Other, Desktop, and Mobile Bookmarks. "Other" and "Desktop" sync to Chrome's desktop counterpart. But, how does one get the Mobile Bookmarks folder to sync, which incidentally is the default folder opened in the browser? Presumably, this is the folder that you would most likely want to have synced, no?
And, for those bookmarks I have indeed saved on the device to the "Mobile Bookmarks" folder, I can't for the life of me figure out how to sort them. Yet, the other two seemingly less important root folders can be sorted with a simple automatic sync using the desktop Chrome version.
Solution!

[Q] How do I move a folder of Chrome bookmarks into 'local bookmarks' in ICS?

This should be simple. I have a folder in Chrome which holds my mobile-friendly bookmarks. How can I move (or copy) this folder's contents into ICS browser's "local bookmarks"? Thanks in advance.

the cmarks paid app in the play store will allow you to do this (and keep it synced too)
Thanks, but CMarks can only sync your bookmarks by replacing your existing bookmarks (which is fine by me) with ALL bookmarks you have saved in desktop Chrome. Because I have over 300 bookmarks in many folders in Chrome on the PC, that simply won't do.
It should be simple. I have a folder in Chrome containing mobile bookmarks that I would like to copy over to the local bookmarks in the ICS browser. Any other suggestions?

Chrome - using local HTML file as homepage?

Chrome - using local HTML file as homepage?
Hey I made a speed dial type HTML page, and I want to use it as my homepage in Chrome but I can't figure out how to do it. I've added it to my bookmarks and added a shortcut to my homescreen but when I go to launch it, it says 'App not installed'.
When I create a shortcut to it via Estrong file manager, the only two applications it lets me open it in, is Dolphin or HTMLViewer but I want it to open in Chrome.
Anyone got any ideas?
