[Q] ram upgrade - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi just wondering if anyone would know if we can upgrade our ram? i spoke to a online dell person they said no. but then im thinking did they say no cause it makes the phone void or cause its not possible. they told me the ram is sdram and i was thinking if you got 1gb or 2gb of sdram running at the same mhz would it work? also upgrading internal memory? give it a class 10 32gb upgrade?

I would imagine the ram is surface mount, so if you wanna take your phone apart and solder in new team, go for it.

Internal SD upgrade
I dont know if I would go as far as trying to upgrade the RAM, but I did replace the 2GB internal microsd chip with a 4GB class 10 microsdhc chip with no bumps and I can certainly tell the difference.... Boot up is several seconds faster and anything that requires accessing the card is much snappier....
Cant remember the link, but you can do a search on Google for changing the Streaks internal SD and it will take you to a thread over at modaco with a full take the phone apart route and a "cut a piece out" as I call it route.... I cut the small piece out (very carefully, so carefully I was able to glue it back in and can barely tell it was touched)

Eventually I'm going to have to take mine apart to replace the glass. At that point I'm going to upgrade the memory. I saw that article too. The general consensus seems to be that if you go with high grade high speed memory it is worth it. I just couldn't be bothered until it needs to come apart anyway.

yh i thought upgrading internal sd with something big and speedy would def benefit for games and stuff to store on phone. but would def love to have a gb or 2 of ram. who needs duel core if you got decent ram for it. i personally think duel cores are only good for big multi tasking otherwise a single core with high ram would be faster or the same

Pocketpctechs 128mb RAM Upgrade

I purchased an SX56 with PPCtech RAM upgrade only to discover that flashing the rom leaves one with a non-functioning battery consuming memory chip that can not be read. UNLESS THESE GUYS HAVE A PRACTICAL SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM I THINK THE 128mb RAM UPGRADE SHOULD BE AVOIDED. I CAN HARDLY SEE THE ADVANTAGE ANYWAY. OVER A REMOVABLE SD CARD.
I think you need to email them for a new code to enable access to the memory upgrade,

How Can WALLABY Memory be increased

Wallaby has a 32 mb built in memory. How can this be increased. If so How MUCH & How?
Note i have installed a 128 mb SD card and have installed most of the softwares on it but my system shows low memory while the SD card is nearly 50% empty.
I have tried to use the slider in the settings to increase the momory but it slides back and is not releasing more memory for the system.
kindly advise how to increase the momory
regards
aamer sheikh
There is a company that adds physical ram to the phone but now that prices for the xda 1 are so low I would not consider that as a realistic option. You could maybe buy an xda 1 with 64 megs of memory and a broken screen and transplant the mother board to your phone.
I think he might not know that he might free up some memmory on his devices rom. If I were you sir, I would sync my data (not backup), hard reset, reinstall everything into where I wanted it, and resync. If you have experience with hot air rework, or have a friend, you might aquire the chips and do it yourseld. THen again, if you didn't know you could add memmory to a wallaby, then you probably shouldn't do that. Be careful and good luck!
PS I'm not responsable if you junk your device, I am only giving suggestions of what could be done, not telling you it should be done!
Even by physically adding the memory chips you can get only 64meg, anything above that has to be software driven paged memory I think, bit like using a fast sd card.
I know that 128+ mb requires a driver.... I wonder if you could get in 96 somehow???? anyone done that?
I think the hardware limits direct memory access above 64.
can the chips be stacked? I thought I had read that somewhere; cut a certain pin(s) and solder/joint a second chip ontop of the origionals?????
are the user accessable ram and rom on the same chip or are they seperate chips?
could the rom size be increased? (never looked into it)
Where would one acquire the chips?

Possible to Install bigger RAM chip???

Anyone capable of doing such upgrade??? guys Mogul needs a memory boost to be an ultimate device. it must be possible to preform a Ram upgrade lets brain storm this and make a step by stem mod chip like mod or even some one could start a service perhaps.
what is needed......

Someone with intimate knowledge of the memory map and microcode for the Qualcomm processor inside. This person would have to determine if there is sufficent address space above or below the existing RAM and impliment it in a new firmware flash. I am wondering myself if the reason for the small RAM might be that there is or was no address range available for it, or just maybe short sighted designer decided that this was all that would be needed. If the latter is true then it would be possible. Lastly I would mention that a really good station and tech would be required to change out the RAM for a larger chip, assumeing that one existed in the same package. Might have better luck doing a RAM based add to the microSD slot by adding to a custom engineered card. If someone did that then the applications could be mapped to addresses that already exist and are known. You would end up with a microSD card with maybe 4 gigs of flash and a few gigs of RAM ??????? That might be easier. Food for thought.

[Q] [HELP ME] My folio100 has 1GB ram, who's with me?

I've heard that you guys have folio100s with 512MB ram,
But mine has 1GB ram, dunno why....
now that I flashed Dexter's Mod foliomodv1.4,
which is a 512MBRAM version,
Now my OS cannot recognize all of my RAM, it just recognizes 751MB of the 1GB.
the data is gotten from typing 'free' in console mode.
what should I do to find the hidden part of my ram back to work?
I've tried CyanogenMod7, and it's worse, the ram decreases to exactly 512MB.
Thx to anyone who will help me with this!Sincerely!
How do you know there is really 1Gb ram in your folio ? Don't you think it's probably just a bug showing 1 gb intead of 512 mb?

it says so on the label at the back side beside the battery.
and when I'm on native rom the 'free' command shows 990MB free memory, and I always use up to 700+MB ram running all kinds of apps.
but however, as everybody knows, the native rom sucks.
so, is there a way I can adjust the foliomod to yield some more ram?
OK. I was a bit surprised and was thinking that it could be due to a bug.
Unfortunatly I have no answer to your problem.
Is this one of the new batch that was supposed to relaunch in April, or are you just lucky?
I have that label too that says my folio has 1gb ram, Bought my folio about 2 months ago?
How can i find out does it really have 1gb ram?

The native rom will tell you your total ram is 990MB. And you can experience great multitasking !
So, dude, wr are the minority, we should try to fix it, don't you think?
I bought my Folio a month ago and only have 512 Mb reported by Cyanogen.
Do someone know why there are some differences here ?
Mine has 512 mb ram, and 1gb for app installation.
Maybe the inscription in the box is 1gb of ram , for app.
If you really do have 1 gb of ram, lucky you
Ill check that out, ill post my results here then

who would continue with this problem?
I am still confused, I recently have returned to the native rom and obtained the latest official update, it is really stable, with touchscreen responsive, though poor graphic performance(opengl1.1) and wrong direction of sensor in some games.
but the ram reported is the same as foliomodv1.4, that is, 751MB, don't you think it is interesting? it's like the DDR2 ram has 8 blocks with each 128MB, and foliomod has discovered only 6 of them, while Cyanogenmod discovered only 4 of them, that's why Cyanogenmod reports 482MB total ram.
in fact, seen from the dissembly pictures sent from a guy in China like me, there really are 8 similar blocks on the chipboard, with 128MB written on each block as the guy told.
So what do you think, guys? Is it possible to find the hidden memory blocks and get them to work? I think it is highly possible, for different roms report different total ram, and some of them well exceeds the assumed 512MB, that's an implication that some of the folio100 really are bestowed with 1GB ram, rather than 512MB. So why can't there be a rom that makes full use of the ram?
I believe we are the last group of Folio100 users inthe world, so we are gonna stick together to make the most out of our device, guess what, newly published devices mostly have the same hardware as our folio(I mean the 1GB version), except for the screen, but I don't see it as an unacceptable shortcoming. Lower resolution sometimes mean higher performance. I've tried Backbreaker THD running on MOTO XOOM, though the graphics are good, but as I expected it isn't so smooth as running on Folio100. So disadvantages come with advantages, that's why we'll stick to Folio100, at least Before Tegra3 becomes trivial.
Expecting replies from you !! In hope of a better rom and a better tomorrow!
Me too...
CM9/ICM , it just recognizes 512MB of the 1GB.(RAM)
But FolioNotion2.0 recognizes 1G.
I can't paly games like Plants vs Zombies in CM9/ICM ,But in FolioNotion,It works perfect....
I am still confused...
folio100---512M Rom
AS100---1G Rom
Xda Rom just dev for folio100... So,we are just recognizes 512M.
but FolioNotion have recognizes 1G,Why?
1GB with foliomod 1.4
as100 with 1gb ram,and a recently flashed ics rom changed it to 375mb.......those who r confused with the 1gb ram on folio can go to search the pics of disassembly of as100 in some chinese website, after u do that u could fing that there r 8 ram chips installed on the pcb while some of the folio may only have 4installed...
i checked now my folio,...
http://db.tt/dVei7u49 on the top on the right side, is a small sticker 1GB000
CM9 shows me 364M
Is there any way to test it on cm9?

Maybe someone can test it with Ubuntu?
I have the sticker with 01GB000.
I checked the picture of the hardware (ref.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868617)
On one side there are 4 chip NT5TU128M8DE-AC that is a 128Mx8 DDR2-800
so 128M x 8 = 1Gbit and 4 x 1Gbit = 4Gbit = 512 Mbyte.
On the other side there is a place for additional RAM (see picture BILD2387)
If you have the chips in these place you have additional 512Mbyte of ram otherwise no.
To open this box you have to remove only the back cover and open the box with a cutter under the corner with the arrow.
In my case there aren't additional chips of RAM.
So the sticker 01G000 is not for RAM info.
Sorry.
Bye

I've just checked and there's no extra RAM for me as well.
Thank you anyway for your explaination.
I also have the AS100 model with 1GB RAM. Does any one know how to modify ROM to detect all available RAM?

[Q] Extending Ram using external sd card partitioning

I remember there was a method to partition part of the external sd card and use it as extra RAM.
Can anyone explain how to do that with the GS3?
I seriously doubt there is a way to do that. Even if there is, why would you want to!? The SD speed will be horribly slow when compared to the RAM, it'll just not be useful in the slightest.
I don't remember how but you can set up a swap file. It would be better to mount it to internal storage but that is still going to be slower. I screwed around with this quite a bit on my N1 and never was able to get better performance than not using the swap file at all.
This was useful and a major feature in the early device custom rooms G1/Hero etc. There is simply no need for it on the handsets nowadays. It was used due to the limited ram in early Android handsets to cache apps to free up main memory for the running apps. Which up until the N1 the was at Max 128MB of in built ram. You have nowt to worry about with 1/2GB of ram.
