Hey Guys,
I tried this rom from the beginning.. but there's always been this GPS issue,
I updated Radios, re-flashed Radios after Flashing the rom, always did a wipe,
tried enabling GPS before flashing the ROM (some things, other people helped)
nothing helped for me, and i've also seen, there're many other people out there, which do have the same problem.
I like GPS myTracks, Navi, etc... everything can work fine but I don't want to restart my phone and loose about 10-15% of the power to just en-able GPS... that's way off...
so my question: some guys, brought it to work...
what radios do you use? which kind of version...
how did you flash? anything un-ordinary ;=) etc..
Please, I think there is a solution, except fixing the bug ;P
greets,
I used the latest radio version, but you have to enable gps after flashing the Rom and then restart the phone, once that's done, gps will work with no problems and as far as I know, it doesn't reset if rebooted

not working

Are you disabling GPS and then trying to get satelites?
Is there any reason why you just don't leave GPS enabled? it won't effect anything unless its being used.
true?

Okay, that's a different approach ;=)
So you have GPS always en-abled and it does not drain power? does not effect anything? and is just being used if an application like MyTracks, GoogleMaps etc is beeing opened?
What if GoogleMaps is one of the 6 'last-used' applications? sure about that?
thanks a lot for uR response,
mike

I always have GPS enabled without any battery problems. It is only on and working when an app asks for it. Google Maps stops asking for it when you hit the return button. You can tell that for yourself. When in Google maps you can see the GPS is being used because it shows on the notification bar at the top as an icon of a white dish with green arcs. Then hit return and that icon disappears. All good apps let go of GPS as soon as they are finished with it.
BTW the list you get when you hold down the home button is only a history list - it does not mean they are working in the background.
thanks

didn't knew that, just thought those are those (for developers) who are in 'pause' mode, others are closed... thought i've read this somewhere.. but not sure..
Isn't it disturbing you, that GPS is enabled all the time?

Why should it? Just because it is enabled does not mean it is actually on or using any power. It means it is waiting to be turned on when an app I decide to open asks for it. So, for example, my sat nav, google maps, yelp, or google places all turn it on when they open and then turn it off when they finish. They are all "good" in the sense of being well designed apps, that do what they are supposed to. Sorry if you don't like that term but that is what I mean.
Not so well designed ones, like, for example, Shop Savvy don't switch it off. And that is annoying. But in any event I know whether it is on or off by looking at the notifications bar - if the dish icon is there then it is on, if not it isn't, even though I have it enabled.
If it starts coming on randomly then I know I have a rogue app doing something in the background that I have not asked it to do.
hehe thanks man
it's just the thing...
-my location
-GPS
-worldwide
PLUS: en-abled
but i understand now 'good apps' just use it on demand,
bad always have the connection open
just an open connection start battery draining
i just wanted to prevent all this by simple en-ableing it JUST when i need it
like things usally are used turned on - on demand hehe
thx man
finally : it does NOT WORK
so guys...
finally, now tested it about 1 week with the above congifuration...
GPS always on ... on boot... the whole time the phone is up
- @ modaco custom rom: i started any GPS app, and within about 10 seconds, at max 30secs i got a working GPS lock on about 4-7 satellites...
and was able to locate my me
here (vanillain 5.2): i start.. wait.. get 'to see' 2-4-5 satellites (fast) but they don't lock, they vanish for about 1sec, again 5-6 satellites ... sometimes 7 but the just don't lock ---- waiting---- waiting---- ...
i can hold my position: wait for some minutes.. then i ---- get a lock.. then also gps-tracking works... somehow, sometimes
but guys, i really don't have that much time.
I want to get GPS locks during walking.., at any time, fast. i want to get it fast, and everything else ist just '''''BS'''''
so for me: it's not working at vanillain..
that's not worth calling...it works... sry
TIP PS:
guys, switch to 'legendroid 1.01' for working GPS!
i got a lock within 5 secs in my room!!! to 8 satellites...
and enabled GPS after boot (it was dis-abled at boot time) at first boot for the first time,
everything works perfekt
thanks a lot at the developer of legendroid

hi guys i have been testing my galaxy s3's GPS. i am using osmand app as my GPS app. sadly the app could not find any satellites and pin point my current location. even if i leave my S3's GPS active for a more than 5 minutes it could not get any satellites even if i am standing on a open area.
what should i do? how can i reset my GPS?
thanks in advance
Turn mobile data/wifi on and then try to use GPS. If GPS receiver doesn't have fresh AGPS data, cold start will take from 10 minutes to infinity.

Agree with you. Turn mobile data on. GPS or Glonass receiver use mobile network to fix the signal. When your position is done, you can turn off mobile data.
oh do you really need the mobile data active? was it possible to get your exact location without the use of wifi or mobile data? just your GPS? because osmand can download the maps offline then just use the GPs data to pin point your location. have you guys tried using the osmand app?
thanks
GPS receiver needs to download some (4-5 kilobytes) of data from server. This is called A-GPS, Assisted GPS. Without it, GPS still will lock onto satellites, but it will be 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 seconds.

U only need data/wifi for first location fix and to dl. extra GPS data.when your location is found,u can turn of data/wifi and never use it again if u got downloaded maps.
Its just to get faster location fix on first GPS fix
I just tested my s3's GPS today in open air and got a lock within two seconds. phone locked 15 satellites. My phone is running completely stock rom and kernel.
So as others suggested, you should turn wifi or mobile data on so that A-GPS could work.
If you are worried about your app downloading more data and cost you money eventually then you may try app named "GPS Test". Its a very simple app and gives you some key info like satellites in view and locked to plus accuracy etc. It doesn't download any maps etc. Once you get locked, you can close the app and open your desired maps app.

hehe thanks guys
Hi there,
I also have an issue with my GPS. Navigation is stuck at Searching for GPS.
Also when I run GPS test, it does not see any Satellites. I have my mobile data and WIFI on, and also tried to update the agps data with fastergps.
I have found different threads suggesting to uninstall maps but that did not help either.
Any ideas? (the issue existed on 4.0.4 stock, and also on latest aokp 4.1.1 build 3)
Thanks.
Also the GPS icon flashes briefly (like twice) and then disappears. Watching the notifications the same thing happens - Searching for GPS- appears briefly and then dissappears.
Is this the normal behaviour?

That usually means the phone has stopped searching for satellites for any reason, these usually are app-related.
Please download GPS TEST from Play store and report if it can find and lock on any satellites. If not or if it keeps loosing the connections, then something is wrong.
Make sure you don't let the screen turn off during the fix since that will disable the GPS.

I have tried GPS Test and it sees 0 satellites. I have also tried a couple of other apps with no success.
Even with GPS test running, display on, I still observe the same flashing of the icon and notification popping up, then disappearing after 2 seconds and reappearing again...
Have same problem. I tried GPS test. It take about 5-10s to lock the GPS. However, it will dropped after sometimes.
If some of you guys are not running stock ROM, then there might be kernel related.
I tried Temasek's newest kernel yesterday on my AOSP MIUI ROM, but couldn’t get a gsp fix.
Went back to siyah kernel and got fix within seconds.
Also try setting your regional pool with fasterfix

Aluminum Case
I thought my GPS was busted as it showed which satelites were available (agps had downloaded) but it woudn't lock.
I then took my aluminum case off the phone and discovered that this was interfering with the GPS lock.
So take your case off before assuming that the GPS is buggered. *sigh*
"My gps wasn't working on my phone. I took it to the Verizon store after I had flashed back to stock, they messed with it for a little while and then ordered me a refurbished one. I received it the next day and when I powered it on guess what the gps didn't work. So I called tech support and to my surprise the person that answered the phone actually knew what she was talking about.
She told me the gps issue is a Samsung issue, (even though is only effects Verizon and sprint phones) they are working on an update to fix it. But in the mean time she told me how to do a work around to get it working. Here is what she had me do."
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service(leave it off to)
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market
now the gps should be working.
Looks like my gps can't locate since I've updated to lollipop (5.0.2).
It just continually says "Searching for GPS".
This happens with High accuracy (with WIFI networks), and just GPS alone.

How come I have to do this every time the phone is restarted? It's a pain when I change battery once a day.
Hi, in my Honor 7 the GPS doesn't receive any satellite. The localization service is set to high accuracy. I've tryed with GPS Test app and also with google maps.
The GPS search icon appears on the status bar only 2-3 seconds and then disappear.
It always worked perfectly, but I don't use the GPS frequently and I don't know if this problem happened after the B390 update or not.
I've also tryed a factory reset without results.
What can I do?
Thanks
