Is it the Twitter App? sound files/you tube problem - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had to restart my phone twice daily in order to get my audio files and you tube to to work. I have been looking for a solution for months. This problem has manifested itself in several forums here and elsewhere under many different titles (mp3 issue...odd problem...you tube not working...).
Some have had suggested that the Twitter App is the culprit, and after one day of testing I believe this to be true. I think it is true for everyone that uses the twitter app, and on most ROMs (which I think is a lot of people). I am not taking any credit for solving this, but I do want to confirm that this is true. Major bug, no?

I will keep an eye on this. Mine doesn't happen as often as yours (usually I can go a couple of days without media playback problems). I'll subscribe to this thread also and make sure to keep testing media playback. I'll report back in a week or so. Reason is, this is a recent issue, and I installed Twitter recently, but never made the connection. Who knows?

Answer: has to be. Since uninstalling it, no more media playback issues. Youtube is fine, video playback is fine, audio playback is fine. How weird.

So, decided I'd register here as I've been having this issue as well since the official Twitter app hit the 2.0 version I think.
Someone on the t-mobile forums did in fact pinpoint the official twitter app as the cause, but why? No one seems to know.
I'm curious if anyone here could find out why this happens and/or a resolution. For what it's worth, you don't have to uninstall the app for media to work, I just turned off all notifications and sync, and my media works fine ever since. But once I enable all that, in less than 24 hours, mp3's, youtube, videos/streaming all cease to work until a reboot (and repeat at least once a day).

[SOLVED][Q] Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file.

Ever since I installed Bionix v1.3.1 my phone randomly stops being able to play music. It happens every 2 hours or so. I've tried different music players and they all have the error above. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot. This works but takes so long, and I usually go to play music in the car and all of a sudden its broken again.
And its all my music not just certain files. System sounds still work tho, so its something with the internal storage because I don't even use the external sd. I've been trying to find an app or something that can remount the internal storage and not the Ext. SD.
Yes, i've also tried different roms, like Loki, Trigger and others. The other day I ODIN'ed back to JFD and rooted and started all over but the problem persists. I've noticed some other people asking questions about this but nobody has a definite answer besides reboot. We shouldn't have to reboot to listen to music every so often. Some people said unplugging your usb cord without unmounting can cause that, but I've tested it both ways and still the issue comes up. Anybody with some know how or some devs willing to input? Thanks. Running the latest Trigger at the moment if that matters.
Bumpitty Bump
Never experienced any of this. What music players are you using and what format is your music in?
Yeah this used to happen to me until on day it just stopped working and now it plays one song and freezes.

They're all mp3's and I used the stock player, the MIUI player, mixzing, mort player and poweramp too.
Have you tried changing back to stock rom? Or maybe trying other formats? Cuz I have no clue... =P Sorry
Delete the twitter app. Mine was doing the samething, now its fixed after deleting the twitter app
Twitter doesn't cause the problem. I've had it installed for months.
I'm having the same issue, but I'm on the stock 2.2 and rooted. There's been other lingering issues as well, like wifi not reliably connecting, the system thinking it's in debug mode with just a car charger attached, and other things that are irritating, but nothing major like that.
I've found something else interesting about this.
The YouTube player also fails to load any videos when this happens - I get the "there was an error while playing - touch to retry" message.
The music player will also still play .wav files just fine - which may explain why the system sounds still work.
I'm guessing that the youtube app and MP3s share a codec somehow, and something is failing to work properly. Beyond that, I know little else.
Yes, I noticed youtube too..I found a pretty quick work around. Download Hot Reboot from the market. You just push the hot reboot button on the widget and restarts the whole system without rebooting the actual phone. Once you push it, it shows you the android boot screen for a couple seconds and then back to your home screen and the sounds work again. So weird. I can't wait until we have a good 2.3 version working, because out of all the gingerbread roms I tested the issue was non existent. Good luck Everyone.
Trust me on this.. you can check my other posts on this same issue... I started getting this same error out of nowhere and it happened all the time... someone said delete the official twitter app. I did and it has not happened since.
I have been using plume.
And I don't care about these people who say twitter is not the cause. When there is an issue and changing or removing one thing solves that issue... then that one thing was the problem.
That was DEFINITELY the problem..Uninstalled twitter yesterday when you posted that and I haven't had the issue since. You sir are awesome. By the way, how did you find out twitter was the cause?
Confirmed fixed by uninstalling the Twitter App
That definitely fixed it for me. All my music started playing fine right after the uninstall finished.
thanks!
I'm reporting the bug.

I realized that the music errors were almost insync with when i would check my twitter.... or at least I just felt it was, ha. then searching through the interwebs someone else said they were having problems and they thought it was related to twitter so i said screw it and deleted my twitter app and the problem went away.

Wow thats a whodathunka for sure!
Sure works tho, I was begining to think the 2.2 update jacked the phone...

I have the same problem.
I've uninstalled twitter but the problem still exists. So I guess twitter was not the main or only cause.
Are the files you're tyring to play acc or mp3?

I'm having the same issue with the of mp3 files that I know work but my music player saying "unsupported file".
And yes a reboot does get me where I can play the media file. Also this issue not only stops local mp3's from playing but also youtube wont play a clip, short video clips wont play thru the browser option, I can have ever choose "internet" and the file downloads to my phone (feels almost like I'm back on winmobile 6.5).
I do have the Offical Twitter installed on my Cappy, but as of this posting, I;ve unsinstalled Twitter and when with another app. I will post back tommorow is my phone does the same thing again now that Twitter is removed.
Much Thanks....
{Edit}...I must say that my phone actually feels more responsive since removing Offical Twitter for Plume but Plumes Widget is not that great all the app looks nice, its been 4 hrs and music still plays from default music player.
I was skeptical about this solution, but I tried deleting the Twitter app anyhow. It completely solved the problem. Bravo to whomever figured this one out.

All Media playback ceases working

I had been on Bionix for quite a while when this first happened.
I, was playing a youtube video it said "video playback failed. Touch to retry." It never worked so I restarted the phone, and then it finally worked..... for a while.
I started noticing that when this happened (inevitably after a certain amount of uptime) my videos stores locally would stop playing as well, and so would my mp3's. A reboot would always fix it, but it certainly is annoying).
Fast forward to today, I'm running Trigger, and I'm still getting the same problem. I did fix permissions, I wiped the youtube cache, I wiped the dalvik cache, I did factory reset, but I cannot get media to work consistently.
Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
I should probably disclose that I use titanium backup to restore missing apps with data only, but never any system apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this issue has me stumped!
(ps.: playback of videos directly within youtube.com also does not work either, and not because of the (this video is not available on mobile error either, but due to this all encompassing issue, I think).

This happens to me the other day and all I did was a reboot and it started working again.

I know what you're saying, it does indeed work after a reboot, but after a certain amount of time, it stops working again, and once again it needs to reboot.
It is kind of annoying, and I wish I could figure it out once and for all.
Hopeless bump.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Playback keeps getting broken.
I have this issues aswell. Is there for fix for Bionix V 1.3.1 or any TW roms. My youtube app is broken and its driving me crazy!
if you have the official twitter client installed, then get rid of it. I had the same problem, and read another post about this. The problem never happened again for me after I uninstalled the twitter client.

How do you know for sure that this is the issue. I will try it anyways since nothing else seems to fix this annoying issue.
So far this is working. Been 3 hours without videos on youtube not playing. Usually I have to reboot the phone every 30mins for youtube to work again. Will test this theory....
Why would twitter not fix this flaw in the apps programming?

How can I be sure? I don't. Like I said in the earlier post, I am just relaying the info from another post I read. It also fixed it for me. I don't need rebooting my phone anymore because media doesn't play.
That's why I just stopped flashing up to bionix 1.3. Tried 1.3.1 with some flaws noticed. Went back to 1.3 for 2 months already no hiccups or whatsoever. Running on kb5modem, overstock 2.4.1 kernel, splash of colors 4.1. Some minor system apps were pushed. Modded boot animations and shutdown too. Quads at 1900, 2003 at highest. Gps at 5secs lock with 8meters accuracy. Snappy fast blazing bionix.

Google Music Issues

Anyone having issues with Google Music and their Vibrant. I am using Bionix 1.3.1 Froyo and before yesterday I had no issue with it but now it will just load the song and never play it in the player on the phone. If I go to the browser I can play it. Had a friend test on his Atrix and works so doesnt appear to be the service, but his was buffering really slow.
Any ideas?
I've had weird issues, its still in beta and still really buggy in my opinion.
I've had the same thing happen, press play and it just doesn't. The only thing i've ever done that worked is to just watch for a second and let it fully buffer before you press play. If it never buffers, try killing the app in task manager and trying again.
Hopefully they update it soon, I also have really blurry album art and its a little laggy at times. It could be prettier too.

Well I just wanted to be sure it wasnt the service. Apparently no one else is having the same issues. I contacted Google Support rebooted phone and cleared data for the app as well as reinstalling but still no go. Guess ill have to reinstall the rom or another rom.
It'd be much easier and simpler to move to another music player, of which there are dozens. I prefer Winamp for free, or PowerAMP if you're an audiophile and willing to pay for it.
Hello to let you know the issue was that I had my phone authorized too many times in the settings. After removing the phone that was there 7 times i was able to fix the issue and stream properly.
Happened to me a lot of times.

[Q] 4G YouTube Issues

Searched through the forums and I see where everyone is having 4G YouTube issues, but I don't see a fix for it.
Has anything developed?
Right now I am using a work around and playing all my YouTube videos through NextVid.
It's a nice alternative. Still, it bothers me that one of the most popular stock apps doesn't work.
Don't have this problem. Just watch 2 videos on the YouTube app.

I am having issues to. A brief search shows that some are and some arn't. HTC is trying to find some correlation but no luck from what I can tell. Others have reported that it cleared within a few days, while others has worked fine then about two or three days ago it stopped.
I openned youtube about 30 minutes ago and clicked a video and let it sit. After about 3 minutes it started playing. This is very frustrating as I use youtube a ton.
BTW: I am in North Alabama on 4G.
What is NextVid?
YouTube 3rd party app. Has a little viewer that I think just renders the webpage. Not very impressive but works.
By any chance are your running a different rom. I installed a few last night and the ics roms worked fine. The GB rom i tried did not work.
What exactly is the issue?

When on 4g it can take up to 5 minutes to start a video. I have not had this problem with any of the ICS Roms, only the GB Roms. Videos start right up when on wifi, 3g, or 1x but when on 4g the app starts but when you go to launch a video the spinny ball thing (technical name) comes up for 3 to 5 minutes and just spins. The video will eventually start but 5 minutes to start seems like a long time. It still buffers the video when when it starts so it is not like it is doing a complete buffer before it starts.
I have wiped the app, deleted cache, reinstalled app, etc. Nothing works. Only thing I know works is going to an ICS Rom which I was not extremely happy with.
Besides this issue, I have no other problems with 4g.
Issues have been fixed with the latest update, I believe
I watched at least 20 HD YouTube videos last night via 4G with no apparent long delays starting up using the newly updated YouTube app.
I bought on launch day and had YouTube over 4G problem where the stocck app didn't work but It was fixed by VZ in like 2 days. It was some kind of network block not the phone or the app.
This was not network related. It had something to do with the app. It worked fine on ICS roms but on GB roms it took for ever to load. After the last youtube update, all is working fine.
Do you have the same problems with the video load times going straight to youtube.com VS using the APP? The Youtube APP for me even with the Droid X was always buggy but going straight to the website loaded vids alot faster for me
web site had the same issues. Only nextvid would work.

[Q] Camera, playing music, etc

Hello.
I've had my Motorola [Electrify] for about a year now, and a few months after getting it, started having problems with the camera, playing music, and not receiving notification sounds. For the camera, I it would look as though it was starting, and then go back to the home screen with a flash saying "Camera cannot initialize." (or something to that effect.) When I would try to play music, it would stop and say "Sorry, the play does not support this type of audio format." It was MP3. And I would sometimes not receive notification sounds. I have been researching and battling this issue for months when suddenly yesterday, I read that for people whose camera wouldnt work, they went into the main settings and clear data for the camera, and the gallery. It worked. Camera worked and so did playing mp3s. Well, today it started not working again. This time I only cleared data for the gallery, and again everything worked like it should. I did root the phone several months ago, using Photon Torpedo. First, I wonder if using that method, if I may have messed something up. Anyone hear of this sort of thing? But then again, I am sure I had problems with this before I rooted. Second, I wonder if anyone knows a specific correlation between malfunctions and the gallery app. Third, would freezing the gallery app with Titanium Backup cripple functionality of the phone/media, and would it work to keep these malfunctions from happening?
Sorry for being long winded, but hoping I'm on to something here.
Thank you.
I posted that a few days ago, but in a different forum, (wrong phone forum) but now today I find out that clearing data in gallery was only a temporary fix, as today it did not work. This is the second or third time I thought I found a connection, but was wrong. Does anyone else have this problem and come up with an actual fix? For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the root cause of this problem is. Thank you.
I haven't heard of it. Have you tried a factory reset?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
Wifes photon doing exactly same thing. what apps you have installed. maybe we can narrow it down. I did a factory reset, flashed a different rom, then installed all her apps back on. worked correctly for 3 days then no notification sounds, camera wont open and can t veiw videos on facebook or youtube. reboot the phone and all is well for a few days then the problem comes back.
