[Q] Renaming installed Apps - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi every one , I need to rename only the installed apps ( downloaded ) not the system apps . I tried like 10 app managers and they all capable to rename the system apps not the downloaded ones.
so please tell how to do that .
thank you

Any time you modify a non system app the apk needs to be re-signed which is why no app you've tried allows you to modify them. You can probably do it manually with an app like root explorer and then sign it with the app 'signapktic' I'm not sure where all you have modify it to change the name though. Why are you trying to change the names anyway?

thanks for replying , but how to use . if you know please instruct me by details .
Its just like Explore or My Computer in Windows. Its not hard to figure it out, if you have problems with understanding a file explorer then you shouldn't be messing with your phone.

Open root explorer. Find the file which you want to move/copy, hold your finger over it and from the popped out menu choose moce/copy. Then 2 buttons in the bottom will appear. Navigate to the root folder or where you want to put the file and pres the move/copy button below.

Please, explain what exactly you want to do?
Meta-Inf is the signature key in all apps. To see it just click an apk in root explorer and press view and all the files/folders of the app are there. Why do you need to find the signing key? Are you modding an app? If you change or remove the signature the app won't work until you re-sign it and you'll need to fully uninstall before reinstalling the modded app. If you don't know how to use an explorer you probably shouldn't be trying to mod and sign apks.

Okay,if I want to change my theme, then there are 3 folders(the new themes folders) wich I must replace in the root with the old one.(If I understand correctly)
The one folder is ''app''
the other one is ''framework''
and then theres the ''META-INF'' folder
I replaced the ''framework'' files with the ones in my root and my phone
restarted and after it restarted it just keeps restarting.
So,clearly I did something wrong?
Okay,I think I figured it out.....
I must first copy the ''app''
then open the app in root explorer, press view, and copy the META-INF files
then I can copy the framework files?
Is this correct?

Not entirely sure about it with framework but with any other app once you modify anything the meta-inf must be deleted and the app resigned. The meta-inf is the signature and once the app has been modified the signature no longer matches and so it has to be deleted. You can use the app 'signapktic' to resign apps once you remove the original sig. System apps I know don't need to be signed though but the meta-inf still would seem not to match once its been modified. I've modded plenty of apps but never the framework so I'm not positive on the signing requirements/procedures.

flashable App package?

Hello Guys...
I would to know, is it possible to create a CWM flashable zip package with my usualy apps? ..something according to the cyanogenmod gapps.zip
It doesn't matter if they becomes to system apps. I am just bored to downlaod all the apps every time I flash a rom
Can anyone help me or explain it to me? ...or even better, can someone create a template so i can just copy my apk files into it?
thanks a lot...
PS. I know, there are apps those can do it for me but for me it would be simplier.

Okey, I got it.
Do open (not extract) the attached zip file with zip7 and copy your apk's into
...apppackage.zip\system\app
Thats all.
Now you can flash your usualy apps as system apps.
Maybe someone knows how to do it as regulary apps?

Really not sure why you would want to do this, but you can fairly easily do it yourself just have a look at apktools and as always google is your friend
Decompile the .apk and then check androidmanifest.XML .. or check other XML
Edward Cullen
I can't do it, everytime i change it (on strings.xml because on manifest not is), i cant install it, it says "Application not installed" and on system/app not appears on reboot.
Please someone do it.
*BUMP to tha top*
did you sign the apk?

People would much rather help you learn to do it yourself then just do it for you, developers are here to teach not be your personal code monkeys
I think you forgot to sign the apk. Also if you want something easier, just use a custom launcher that supports renaming icons, for example ADW.Launcher.

app name and icons name to b used are located in android manifeast.xml decompile apk change app name in manifeast.xml , compile n sign it.....
Dont forgot to hit thanks....

[GUIDE] Halting firmware updates and their notifications

This gets asked quite often so I decided to make a guide on how to do this. It's a very simple process and you will need something to either freeze the .apk or something to rename it. You will also need to be rooted.
Freezing:
Titanium Backup
Rom Toolbox
Renaming:
Root Explorer
ES File Explorer
The file you will be freezing/renaming is titled SDM.apk, it is located in the system/app directory. Navigate there and freeze/rename with your app of choice. If you're going the renaming route, rename it to sdm.apk.bak, or anything else you would like as long as you change the file extension. If anyone wants a different application added to list post here or PM me and I will add it. I just listed those because they're some of the popular ones and I have used all of them myself at one time or another.
Hi, is this process make stop any apps updates and update notitfications, because except title you didn't say anything about it?

[Q] How to Force Install APK

Hi, XDA Dev. Why when I Install some apk, says Application Not Installed?
Give me a how to
Bcoz ur phone is not compitanle with that app.... Wrong section... Reported...

Sometimes we can use them by copying apk to data folder. Just copy the apk file to "/data/app folder and sey the permission. And reboot.

Hi very_lie, need specifics, what method are you using- ADB? Are you rooted? What app- is it compatible with your device, app store(play/aptoide) will tell you yea or nay. Assuming you are rooted, use a good file manager, go into settings of the file manager, give it root permissions, and change mount system folders to writable, they will be read only originally. Find out where the app needs to go. For example, earlier today, I replaced talkback app because the version that came with custom ROM force closed. Google came out with an update recently that works for me. In file explorer, went to /system/app to find out what its called- talkback.apk. Downloaded v. 3.5 from aptoide(be careful), renamed it talkback.apk. go to /system/app, deleted older talkback.apk, go to data/dalvic cache and delete system @ app @ talkback.apk @ classes.dex Took renamed apk, copied it(from sd), just long press on the file and options come up, select copy. Navigated to /system/app and paste it there. Reset permissions, again long press hit permissions, will probably at rw-rw-rw, change to rw-r--r-- read write, read, read. Reboot. Upon reboot, may say android is upgrading-all is good-dalvic cache is building. Now with certain apps you will want to delete its data- in /data/data. For this app didn't need to. Also some apps can't be put in /system/app. On my phone HTC Evo 3d, ones like facebook, Twitter, translate and other google app can. Ones like Skype n dropbox cannot- they forced closed and can cause others to misbehave. So open up your app n see if it works. Go back into file manager, /data/data and make sure your app's permissions are rwxr-xr-x. Hope this helps, follow this same format when putting"forcing" app on data partition- /data/app

I've got a old version of APK editor pro , that I can use . Version 1.00 to bypass any install errors .. don't ask me how to get it though. Regards
Of course I could also have flash stock firmware again but I needed a simple solution to use the media I had available at that moment, only two Note 8 (mine and my wife's to extract the apk) and little 3g signal (when I had) to find a solution.
I appreciate the recommendations after having solved the problem but the object of my post was to thank for the help, the rest are anecdotes.
Regards
