So it seems like every time I try applying a wallpaper, it crops it incorrectly. I've made sure that the wallpapers were the correct resolution (480x800) before applying it but even if I drag the crop tool to fit the entire image, it's more of a square rather than a rectangle (the shape the dimensions would suggest) AND it's pixelated on my homescreen.
Any idea how to fix this?
After having problems similar to what you're having now, I just downloaded an app called "Wallpaper Set & Save" and it takes care of the cropping issues for me. It's not the prettiest program, but it works and you only need to use it when you want to change wallpapers.
Wallpaper res is 960 x 800. Try it out.

Yea the background is larger than the display resolution to allow you to scroll and see the background move as well. The dimensions should be what Protekk said 960x800

I really don't think what else to do with this issue - I'm on CM7 and I'm not able to set a crisp wallpaper, everything's blurry or pixelated. I've tried several methods from landscape to portrait, setting it with the gallery, but it always wants me to crop. The sizes I've tried:
1024x750
750x1024
600x1024
1024x600
1200x1024
1280x1024
1800x1024
NONE of those are working, they all seem zoomed Is any1 able to help? Can't be THAT hard to set a crisp wallpaper on that stunning screen, can it?
Use wallpaper set and save from the market
QuickPic works as well
1200x1024 and I've moved from Wallpaper Set & Save to QuickPic, both are free in the market, but QuickPic just seems to work smoother for me.
(edit: You beat me to it JINP!)

Just a guess... you are using ZEAM LAUNCHER right?
I'm having a similar problem. I CAN get wallpapers to load crisply and clearly by controlling the size of the image. A too large image will result in a small, blurry part of the image being all that's visible as wallpaper. I CAN'T get my rooted NC to show ALL of a wallpaper image that's specifically sized to take full advantage of the "panorama" you get by scrolling among the screens. I use LauncherPro and have five home screens. I used to run Nookie Froyo and had access to the original B&N Nook tools and settings. Using them I could load a wide screen wallpaper and see the whole thing. I switched to xe.nook.color.froyo (a great ROM, btw) and lost access to those tools. I've tried Wallpaper Set & Save and it works fine to locate and load wallpaper images but won't show the full length of the wallpapers I select once they're loaded. 1800 x 1024 images used to load and display completely. Now both ends are cut off no matter what program I use to load them.

nope.. adw ex 1.22
Download ES File Explorer, browse to your wallpaper folder and open the image you want to set as a wallpaper with ES Image Viewer, long touch and select apply as wallpaper. This is the only Way I've found to show wallpapers properly, you just have to make sure the image is 1200x1024.
My guess as to the reason is that nothing tries to apply the background at the proper size, they might be applying it at 960x800 or so on, which causes the image to get stretched and pixelated.

Agreed except the original wallpaper size didnt seem to matter. Im using all the same wallpapers I use for my PC with a screen res of 1920 x 1080. ES seems to do just fine with them keeping things looking great.
EDIT: Using the correct aspect ratio did make a noticeable improvement.
What should the image size be for wall paper on the flyer?
I too have problems while setting a wallpaper.ideal resolution for wallpaper?

Thescreen resolution is 1024 x 600 so that would probably be a good start when picking a wallpaper.

I'd honestly use square wallpapers 1024x1024 if you can... the reason being is because when you rotate the device it will crop the wallpaper. This is why abstract backgrounds work best...But so long as you can get whatever the (important) focus/subject is of your background in the "sweet" spot, then when you rotate the device you'll be able to see something interesting. Otherwise, it might be very annoying to look at when cropped in a weird way.
I've attached an example, the original author's work can be found here:
http://www.zixpk.com/2008/06/hd-wallpaper-moonlight.html
You can find additional wallpapers here (originating from the same source):
http://www.zixpk.com/2008/04/picture-of-meaning.html
and here:
http://dizorb.com/hd-wallpapers/
Not every wallpaper is going to work well on a tablet or any Android device that is set to rotate the background. It all depends on the aspect ratio of the device. You may have to compromise and enjoy one view better than the other...Or, if you can disable the rotation of the background image (I don't know how) then you may not need to compromise, but could be looking sideways at an image =)
Again...Abstract seems to work best.
It makes no sense. The wallpapers are either 980x800 or 480x800. Standard, perfect sizes. When I set them as my wallpaper, it ends up like this, widgets removed:
You need to set them to 960 x 800

It actually still does it when they are set to 960x800. I made a wallpaper for someone recently and ran into the exact same problem. I think I tested about 15 different configurations without any luck fixing it. I finally had to add a black border around the image, which resulted in the actual image not being cropped at all.
Yes it should be 960*800 or 480*800, try making them PNG's as all of the ones I made work perfectly. Also 960 wont work well on no scroll home screens and 480 wont work well on scrolling screens.
download quickpic and use it to set your wallpaper. it doesn't crop them like the stock gallery app does.
Separate issue but it also zooms wallpaper on the lock screen.

Ive been using quickpic forever, same problems.
Are you using the stock launcher or third party launcher? Once I started using ADW launcher ex, I now have the same issue. I noticed that switching back to stock tw launcher returns the wallpaper to normal. Would love to get this working in adw finally!
I'm using a custom 960x800 png. Also tried a jpeg. Tried setting through gallery, quickpic, astaro image viewer, and wallpaper set and save. All give the same crappy zoomed in result.

I am experiencing the same problem with 3rd party launchers. As mentioned relaunching in TW resets the pic properly then what I do is open my 3rd party launcher, ADW, Launcher Pro ect and in that particular launcher's settings disable auto rotation and/or set default orientation to portrait. This seems to "lock" your wallpaper in the proper perspective. Also some roms don't seem to experience this problem. Been thru so many can't seem to remember which but I think in Miui ICS no matter what the launcher the wallpaper stayed set.
I just stumbled across Wallpaper Wizardrii and it truly is a wizard! I opened it, pointed at my wallpaper folder, picked my wallpaper, hit set, chose "No Scroll", chose "Fit Display". I now have a perfectly applied wallpaper with no gay zooming or pixelation in ADW Launcher Ex.
Thank the gods! Hopefully it will help the rest of you with your wallpapers as well.
I use 960x854 wallpapers. Only the borders are cut out. I use this resolution because 960x800 pixelates horribly on my phone.

I use 800 x 480 and 480 x 800 wallpapers depending on on whether its for the lockscreen or for the homescreen. I have no issues with zooming with launcher pro.
I fix my zoom issue by doing this:
Turning on Rotate.
Turn my phone to the horizonal position.
Open my picture gallery.
Close my pcitire galley.
Picture zooms back out.
I have an image in my gallery that id like to set as my wallpaper. I choose the image and I resize it to include the whole image but when it sets it it only show a cropped section of the image. Has anyone seen this? Or am I missing something?

I believe it does that to allow scrolling. If you use GO Launcher it allows you to turn scrolling wallpaper off in the settings. I'm not really sure if default settings allow the option.
Or you can use Multi-picture Live WP and size it you screen size and put a different image on each screen.
Typical WP crops to more "squarish" so vertical pixels remain constant and horizontal is wide enough to scroll from 1st to last screen.
I like to have it pan across the image, it gives a good tactile feedback that other OSs don't have. I also really like the default images, especially the rays of different colors. Leave it to samsung to make such good screens and find images to make the screens look better.
Ive used the multi wp app but didn't want to use it here. I just figured the wallpaper would just "fit" the screen

You can use another Launcher and stop it from scrolling, then you can set the wallpaper to whatever image you want.
I'm the kind of android user that always uses one home screen, I don't see any need for more. What I have found is that any wallpapers I set automatically crop their selves to fit the screen as if I would be scrolling left or right to view the full image. I'd like to find a way to make a wallpaper actually fill the entire single home screen rather than expand as if I have multiple home screens. Is their a particular resolution that it needs to be? Or any apps that would do this. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure the best walpapers app has that option if it is not in the from or launcher itself.

Just checked, it doesn't. And no launcher to my knowledge will do this, and I've tried many.
MultiPicture Live Wallpaper might help
Thank you very much. This works perfectly!
Regina launcher has the ability to use different pictures on each home screen. Really neat option to have. You must also download regjna gallery. But i had 5 home screeja with all different pics of my daughter. It was my daily launcher until i switched to tsf shell.

Try GO Launcher EX, it's among the best of the LauncherPro-alikes and it actually does this. So do most launchers, actually... but specific to GO, which is what I use and can verify right now:
Menu > Preferences > Visual > Backgrounds > Wallpaper mode. Choose Vertical Screen mode. Now when you go to set a picture as wallpaper, it will want to crop to 9:16 (16:9 vertical).
For the Photon/Electrify, the screen resolution is 540x960. Crop to this if you are using something like XnView to prepare the picture on the PC. Or larger but with a 16:9 aspect ratio (or 1.78 if it's noted like that) and it will scale down. Better to scale down (squeeze) than scale up (stretch).
Whatever you are using to pick the wallpaper (Android wallpaper picker, stock gallery, gallery replacement (e.g. QuickPic), etc.) will choose the aspect ratio. If you have it set in vertical wallpaper mode, as noted above, it will crop as such. If it's doing the horizontal thing, you'll want to double the horizontal value (540, in our case) so 1080x960. That's only if you want horizontal mode, which is what you say you're stuck with.
If you truly feel that you cannot get into vertical mode, simply create a 1080x960 canvas and drop a 540x960 right in the middle, taking care to ensure 270 pixels exactly on either side. Leave the sides black or color them however you wish, and place this as your wallpaper. If you've done it right, you will only ever see the middle.
