[Q] for BELL and VIRGIN HTC LEGEND regarding Radio - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just rooted my phone from the STOCK FROYO OTA .. i think i had a recent radio 7.13.35.13 from the BELL OTA but when i downgraded with 1.31 my radio was also downgraded to 7.05.35.26L.
It seems to be working fine so far but i'm wondering if I should upgrade the Radio and if it is possible to bring it back to the original 7.13.35.13 ?
Any advice on how to update my radio to BELL's without losing root again?
ps: Can i upgrade to any Radio from HTC Legend or do i have to stick to BELL's?

You can use the ROM manager to flash Radio (with the "Install ROM from sdcard" option).
Here's the link to the 7.13 Radio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841932
Just remember to do a NAND backup before (the ROM manager gives you an option to backup the current ROM when choosing to install ROM)
No need to wipe data.

Flashing New Radio

Hi all, I flashed my virgin hero with modacos 2.0 rom. Being a novice I forgot to flash the radio first.
Can I go ahead and flash the radio without wiping? I'll do a nandroid backup first anyway but if i'll lose all my settings with a radio flash i won't bother
I did that as well. Just flashed the radio on after. Worked fine. The radio update.zip only touched the radio drivers, nothing else
Cheers mate

quick question about flashing radio

I have stock tmobile uk hero on 2.73. No root, no custom recovery.
Can I flash radio without these? I'm trying to flash newest uk radio but I'm getting error like:
e:verification failed
is this problem with update.zip or do I simply need patched recovery to update that ( which would mean downgrading with goldcard, flashing recovery and upgrading to 2.73 and then radio... dont really want to do that all)
thanks
anyone? want to flash the radio asap...
I would think you would need an official t-mob update, like you do for the RUU, but i'm not certain
doesnt matter now anyway, took plunge and installed custom recovery and modaco 2.9 with root. Lets hope phone doesn't break and I don't need to go through hassle of restoring it to original tmobile software.

Dowgrade from 2.1 to 1.5 htc hero

Hi guy. I looked for an answare in the topic but i didn't find so don't kill me. I have a htc hero with a 2.1 rom but i want to go back with a 1.5 rom. I have root and the lastes recovery so if i do a full wipe dalvik cache etc... can i install a 1.5 rom? Sorry for my english and thanks in advance for help!!!!
If you do a full wipe you can then do whatever you want.
as long as the phone is rooted, which i think it is because 2.1 hasn't been released yet, you can install any rom you wish, so long as it is a HTC HERO GSM rom, NOT CDMA. Do a complete wipe of all the settings in recovery mode and then flash the update file. Simple as.
Better still, did you perform a nandroid backup as advised prior to flashing your 2.1 ROM? If so then just boot to the recovery image and select restore.
Other than that, follow the instructions for flashing any ROM, as long as you can find a 1.5 image.
It is GSM hero, thank you for the answare i'll change the rom. I'll do full wipe!!!!
No problem, any time.
so, but what about the radio? should it be downgraded to the previous 'cupcake' version?
You don't have to the existing one will work fine.
I have a 2.1 Custom ROM,too!
So I can install the official "RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed" too,to go back
to 1.5,or I can only flash as "update.zip"?

Yes,I know,flashing "update.zip" works,but what about official
RUU.exe firmware?

I don't know if you can from 2.1 to generic ruu but when i had a modaco custom rom i downgrade with generic ruu with the procedure posted by htc and it works so i think you can do a full wipe, install modaco and then you can flash htc generic ruu by htc sync and generic ruuXXXX.exe
Ok,with modaco custom rom,it works, maybe should also works
with other custom roms,too!
Thanks anyway!
just don't flash an official rom if you want to be rooted, if you do, you lose your root access.
If you flash the official RUU from HTC, you will end up losing root and also lose the custom recovery menu. You won't be able to flash any more custom roms unless you root your device again and flash the custom recovery menu.
I would suggest just taking one of Paul's pre-rooted ROMs (from hero.modaco.com) in the form of a .zip file. The rom is identical to the official RUU, only rooted. This will allow you to keep your custom recovery menu and you can then still install custom roms.
ALWAYS PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ROMS
Ok, I have a an HTC Hero, complete with the official 2.1 version. I want to root this and use custom ROMs but I'm in a bind. I tried using a program Regaw post in his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 thread but it errored out saying I disconnected my phone when I haven't. All of the root methods I have found are for software versions later than the one I have. I really don't care which version I go to as long as it's one I can actually use Custom ROMs with. I am a newb at this so detailed instructions would be appreciated!
I also just tried to use Universal Androot with no luck, it gets to "Installing toolkit" and fails with a "Failed ! No Fu Goo". I read through the comments for that thread and many others have had that problem to, but no answers have been provided.
that's because you were reading a guide from HTC Hero CDMA forum and not from HTC Hero GSM. If your phone is curved at bottom you have the GSM version. if it's flat you have CDMA.
For GSM version of HTC Hero on how to root and install a custom rom follow this guide
I think you have it backwards? According to CyanogenMOD I definitely have the CDMA and am also still in the same situation...

[Q] Rooted with MR1 stock. How to upgrade to MR2 radio and stock rooted?

I am currently rooted but still on the stock MR1 radio/ROM. I rooted following the instructions at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616
I would like to update my radio to MR2 (especially after having problems this weekend with indoor connectivity in some Long Island locations that have 4G). However, from everything I read, the MR2 radio requires an MR2 ROM (and won't work with the MR1 stock ROM that I'm currently running). I have not yet seen any instructions on how to upgrade the stock ROM to MR2 while rooted, nor have I seen a rooted stock MR2 ROM (only an unrooted MR2 stock ROM).
I'm not interested in installing any of the 3rd party ROMs that are currently out there. I plan to ultimately move to CyanogenMod which I previously ran on my Droid, but I'm waiting for it to progress to a more stable state (preferably "gold' release, but I might jump to it when it gets to a release candidate state if that looks stable/complete enough to me).
In order to update you'll need to flash the new rooted OTA ROM and the new radio. This thread has both http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160374. You will have to have ClockworkMod installed first so you can wipe and then flash the new ROM. I usually flash the radio first from the bootloader then the ROM but it doesn't really matter which you do first. Here are some instructions on flashing the radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055499 Check the MD5 of the radio to be sure its complete. I'm attaching an MD5 program that you can use to check the MD5 of the radio. Rename it MD5.exe. If the radio is not complete it could brick your phone.
I'm looking for an UPDATE method -- one that doesn't require wipe which means even with MyBackupPro backup/restore I still need to manually redo all my Android (non-app) settings.

Radio Help

I currently run BAMF 1.09 rom with the radio that goes along with it. I sold my phone and installed the original HTC Factory Rom but i forgot to install the radio to go along with it. the HTC Rom is about 6-7 months old so my question is what radio do i need for this? Also, i assume all i need to do is install the radio through bootloader and it should have a connection. Currently the verizon told the person i sold the phone to the radio was broken. thanks for your help in advance. I forgot to check but believe the ROM is FROYO.
Did you just restore from a nandroid or did you install a stock file? Your easiest bet is to install a stock file from the bootloader (JUST like a radio) to restore completely to stock.

Just be careful.
