U-connect and Thunderbolt Bluetooth - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone....
I have a 2011 Jeep Liberty with U connect. It has the 730 navigation system
I can not "pair" my Thunderbolt to u connect so I can use my bluetooth.
I have read thoughout various Jeep forums and it seems that HTC is aware of the problem and they may come out with a software update.
Does anyone on this forum have u connect and is able to connect the Thunderbolt to it...
My wife has a 2 year old phone with bluetooth and hers connects in seconds with no problem.......go figure LOL LOL
It is not because I am rooted....it is ALL thunderbolts....
maybe a dev has a "dodge or Jeep" and can figure out how to use the Thunderbolt's bluetooth with u connect LOL

I've got a 07 Magnum SRT w/ the Uconnect. I occasionally have issues with my T-Bolt and the B.T.
Sometimes it will pair.... and then drop out for no reason. Then I have to delete the pairing from the phone and the Uconnect and re-do the whole process over again.
But, for the most part, I can get it to pair.
If you can get it to pair.. make sure you click the "Don't allow" authorization request when it pops up on your phone. That will break it instantly. Something is messed up when the Uconnect attempts to download your phone book via B.T. I think that is the main issue.

I don't remember the "don't allow" authorization request pop up on my phone....I remember a some sort of pop up "wireless headset" being not able to connect when I am not even using a wireless headset........
I will try later tonight when I get home to delete the Thunderbolt from the u-connect system and start over......I also downloaded a "bluetooth fix app" from the market that states it helps out androind phones connect.....
Also, remember...your system is from 2007...mine is a 2011.(730n RHR).maybe there is different software being used in the systems????
The Thunderbolt and the u connect tell me that they are paired....but on the Thunderbolt it also says "paired but not connected"....
Thank you for the reply!!

UPDATE
I went to the market and downloaded an app call
"Bluetooth Fix Repair"
IT WORKED!!!!! alot of people who have a non rooted Thunderbolt are having problems connecting to u connect...
after I downloaded the app....and applied the "fix" my Thunderbolt connected FAST!!!!
It also downloaded the phonebook and it doesn't seem to have a negative affect on the bluetooth connectivity.
I will use this for a while and let you know if I stay "connected"

Cool. Glad it is working for you so far. It's a PITA having to start over from scratch with the pairing on the UConnect. I have no such issues on my 2011 Ford Focus. It's annoying.
Also, I've no idea what system my Uconnect is. I know its a "low speed canbus" but the radio could be any year as it doesn't belong in my car to begin with.

Touch Pro CDMA & VOIP (SIP)

I have been trying for quite some time to get the pesky little 'Internet Calling' option to show up on my Touch Pro. I've tried all sorts of little utilities on various different ROMs and I've yet to see my VOIP provider show up as an option to dial out on, or even any change when 'Internet Calling' is configured and enabled on the Home screen.
There seems to be lots of (possibly outdated?) info out there and there is no shortage of utilities that are supposed to enable the feature, but as far as I can tell none of them seem to work on this particular phone.
I would like to have SIP enabled on my phone, and I would like it to use the same dialing pad, contact database and phone program that the phone on the device uses. I don't want a seperate application, I just want the phone to be able to dial out and recieve calls via VOIP over WIFI, and I want the bluetooth headset to work properly with it and I want clean audio in both directions with a good WiFi connection. Support for multiple SIP accounts would be a huge bonus as well. Is this asking too much or is it just not possible with this device?
I am aware of and do have Fring and Skype both working on the phone, but they do not share the same features as the standard phone application that is native to the device, the biggest issue is that if the phone goes to sleep I don't get calls, even if I'm sitting in my office with a perfectly good wifi connection.
Is there a ROM out there that has VOIP enabled where you can just set up your provider and it works? Has anyone had any success on this phone getting VOIP to work natively? If not a thread that basically says no, it doesn't work might help others that are fighting with this issue.
Thanks in advance.
I had never heard of this as even being possible in WM
Go to registry "Features" under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone,
and add 8 Hex to the value.
Thanks to beefviper on ppcgeeks who figured this out.
Original info here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=749746&postcount=5
If anyone else has more info on CDMA & SIP I'm interested, because it seems like I can't get all pieces working together at once. Either the GPS is broken, or the microphone is muted. Fix one, break the other.
This worked for me!!!!
Just going to reflash and see if I can get it all working without all of teh extra hacking around and will report back.

Here is what I did after you posted the missing link:
1. Reloaded my phone with the latest NSFAN ROM.
2. Set up the phone to connect to my wireless network. Turned the phone and data connection feature off (my phone is not provisioned)
3. Installed WM6VoIPFull.cab - restarted phone as suggested.
4. Installed Setup_Voip-v0.3.cab
5. Ran Sip Config Tool V2.0.1
6. Ran Sip Dialplan - soft reset as suggested
7. Ran Setup VoIP and set Outgoing calls using VoIP to 'Whenever Available' in the options tab
8. Added 8 to the Hex value at the reg key you noted. Restarted the device.
9. Enabled the Internet Calling on the Settings/Home/Items option
Saw that the VoIP was saying No service. Confirmed connection settings were correct but could not see the phone hitting the PBX at all.
Re-installed WM6VoIPFull.cab, rebooted, re-enabled whenever available... swore some more... Home item says no service. Reconfirmed that the PBX works with settings I'm using with softphone on PC. Made sure I could get to Google Maps on phone. WiFi is working and DNS is resolving, account parameters are all good... still no service. Phone isn't even attempting to log onto PBX.
Whet back to this thread on another site - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1610281
And performed the regedits and added thescripts in post #9 (Cudos to 'El Ha$on')
So I am able to easily turn VoIP on and off....
Try random things to try to get it to magically work again. No Joy. Just for kicks try turning the phone on, and I get a notification that says 'home only' - no clue what that means.
Confirmed that the connection is set to whenever available tried togelling the use over the phones data connection, rebooted. Still 'No Service'
Can't figure out why the phone doesn't want to connect through my wifi, throw phone across room against the wall and go to bed.
- UPDATE -
The above method DOES work, however there is another issue. Microsoft uses a different set of protocols for SIP authentication, so if you are attempting to connect to a PBX that does not support the Authentication that the phone is offering up, you are likely geting 401 errors.
I can connect the phone directly to my trunk lines without any trouble now using the above method.
Installing audioroute routes the audio to the earpiece of the phone and the volume that I am getting is sufficient, allthough not particularly loud.
Happy Voiping
Glad to hear you got everything working. Could you post a link to where you got the voip package you actually used?
Sure thing, I used the files from thread number 8 from here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1610281
Does your GPS work with all this installed, and have you confirmed that your mic is transmitting your voice? When I was first testing, I didn't even think to check that people could hear me. (Because I was calling one of those automated response places).
Thanks for the link, I think I might take a bit to work up the energy to try yet another combination
Yes GPS is working and VoIP is fully functional. Last piece of teh puzzle is to get the Wifi to remain always on.
(and get it to Authenticate with freeswitch)
Touch Pro CDMA and VOIP
I currently use an HTC Touch Pro to dial out through my WiFi router on a phone that is not active with any cell provider. I am able to do this with an older version of Skype software. When I tried updating to the latest version of Skype software it would not work. I am not able to receive calls on it yet, but I believe I will be able to trick the interface into receiving calls through the Internet the same way my computer does.

[USER][CM7] Bluetooth tips and tricks...and questions

Hope I'm not duplicating anything, but there seems to be a lot of BT related questions and none answered in one unified place. Also I think the BT Dev thread should be left to the devs (to keep it easier for them to work on things, rather than help us mere mortals ).
This applies to CM7 (latest nightlies, Tablet Tweak RCs) ONLY (as far as I know).
So, if bluetooth does not turn on, there a few things that you can try.
Do a HARD reset (that is, hold down the power button until the NookColor turns off, then start it back up.
Fix Permissions in ClockworkRecovery:
Boot into CWR (w/SD, load it in. With CWR installed on eMMC, go to ROM Manager > Reboot into Recovery. Alternatively, hold down the power plus "N" button for ~8 seconds (from a shutdown NookColor).
Try both!
An interesting thing to note is some users (myself included) can only start up bluetooth within a pretty short window of time after the NC has booted up. Not sure why timing is important, but could be a factor for those who cannot start up BT after some given time of operation.
I found this tip that may work after a fresh (read: wipe system/data) install, but may also work after flashing a nightly over a nightly.
If you're ready to turn on Bluetooth, there's a trick. If you don't do this, Bluetooth will just refuse to turn on / be enabled.
Turn off wifi (Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wi-Fi)
Reboot
Turn on Bluetooth (Settings > Wireless & Networks > Bluetooth)
Turn on wifi
It seems a bit odd, but that's what you have to do. From then on out it'll work fine.

For tethering data via BT, try android-wifi-tether. While it can be used to create an access point on your phone via wifi, you can also opt to use BT to create the tether. This works well in conjunction with TetherGPS which I use to provide GPS info to the NC from my G1 while using CoPilot Live to show navigation (I don't have data on the G1).

Tried that previously and it did not work for me.
In other words, it works as with all the kernels I've tried (your OC'd and stock kernel): it will start up if I start is quickly, but otherwise not.

me too. I went back to 4/4 since them. If I leave BT on all the time, it is on when I boot, but if I turn off BT and reboot, it won't come on without a hardboot (holding down power.)
Fix permissions is NOT needed, just a hard boot.

For the last few days Ive been trying to get BT working w/ my car stereo, using phiremod 5.3
I have no problems enabling Bluetooth (first time I had to reboot a few times and fix permissions)
With it flat against the stereo, I'm 'paired but not connected' and getting it to actually connect usually takes 4 - 5 tries.
After its connected- when I try to play any kind of music, it gets stuck every few seconds- and stays stuck for more than a few seconds (like 10) and plays again.
I just downloaded this kernel, (wiped caches, fixed permissions again) and it connected on the second time, and only got 'stuck' once for maybe 2 seconds, and played the rest of the song with no problems.
Seems like it changed something on my end...
Just figured I'd mentioned it.
(I can go back to the other kernel, or a different version of cm7, and see if I get the same connecting/ stuttering problem, if you thing it would help)
Btw- thanks so much for sharing all of your hard work!

I dont' know if anyone who's building from source wants to take a look at this patch committed 3 days ago on the omapzoom tree to frameworks/base, but it seems to address a bluetooth corruption problem.
Can anyone who's using the copilot app tell me exactly how to get it set up? I can get the GPS signal to the nook but then I get an error about an invalid imei number.

Never had an issue with the IMEI number, but here's how I got it setup.
Start with the TetherGPS app running server on the phone and client on the NC, as well as tether-wifi from google running on the phone, then connect to the AP on the NC
Next, open/install the app. It should read the GPS data from the phone
Now, switch back to a wireless connection with internet access, download the voice, then enter the serial/etc...
Finally, load the app back up after all the registration stuff 'n things, and use the "internet" connection from the phone to grab the GPS info.
Copied and edited from cm7 user thread.
I have xoom bluetooth keyboard with disconnect issues. Would the special kernel help with this?
From the accessories thread. "I found a work-around. Download the app Bluetooth Keyboard JP, change the settings in settings > Language and Keyboard to that app, then connect the keyboard." Anybody else try this or others? Blue Input is another one. I know of one more but can remember its name.
I'm running Phiremod v5.3 cm7 from emmc and cm7 nightlies from sd card. I usually have a data sd card but can switch it out. I have updated the cm7 sd card before. Not sure which nightly and OC I used last. Could use ClockWorksMod to flash this kernel to Phiremod v5.3. Could replace the kernel, uImage, on the SD card. Usually there are different kernels for emmc and sd card.
Another issue: When I have the keyboard active and playing flash files from the internet, it seems to buffer more. If I move the keyboard out of range or use settings to disconnect the keyboard, the buffering is less and the flash files play better. I have cyfi bluetooth external speakers. When I use them I get the same buffering issue, so I just use an external player through the headphone jack instead.

Apparently the latest version of Copilot has introduced this error. I have spoken with tech support regarding the issue and they told me that they are aware of the problem and will release an update early next week that will fix the problem. Apparently if you have version 8.2.504 it works, but the new version breaks it. The dev won't send me a copy of the old version, so I guess I'll just have to wait and hope.

I don't know if that is a solution, but the problem appears to be a conflict between wifi and bluetooth. Turn off wifi and most of your keyboard problems will go away.
Also there is an app on the market called "Null Keyboard" Which simply turns on a keyboard device that disables everything keyboard related. It doesn't disable bluetooth input, but it gets rid of the long-press pop ups and is suppose to solve other issues as well (including the software keyboard popping up every time you want to type.)
I haven't had time to install it, but it's purchased.
Does anyone know where (on the Nook) the BT chip/antenna is located?
It might help to know, since the range is so limited...

I was just using google voice to text from several feet back. In fact it was hard to read the small print from that distance. I did not realized that keyboards have a larger range then headsets.
Testing Bluetooth Keyboard JP now. Force closes, so just switched to swift keyboard I downloaded from amazon app store for free. To get out swift keyboard and get a null keyboard, I hit the back key on the xoom keyboard, then the virtual swift keyboard no longer shows up.
@chisleu do you have a link or instruction to modify bluetooth keyboards so that keys can have their mappings corrected. Xoom has some correct and some wrong or disabled under CM7.
Couldn't get BT to work at all however powering down while the wifi is off, and turning the bluetooth on before the wifi made it works on the first try. Was streaming Slacker to my stereo in a matter of minutes. Wifi doesn't seem to interfere with the BT audio stream at all, audio sounded crisp and perfect. Range however was still limited to a foot or so.
Hoping there is a possible hardware mod that can hook up an antenna to the BT chip. I'd be in heaven if I had full BT functionality on this beast.
FYI, Although I don't have any RF experience I'm still an electrical engineer so if anyone can toss me a bone on the PCB layout or pinouts of the nook I might be able to try stuff to boost the range.
What is the feasibility of adding dial-up networking client support to CM7? Some folks are able to tether their NC to their phone using an ad hoc wifi network, and others have had success via a Bluetooth personal area network (PAN) using the "pand" utility. Unfortunately, I have a Blackberry phone, and it does not support the PAN profile. It does, however, support dial-up networking (DUN) over Bluetooth (confirmed with a Windows laptop).
According to https://sites.google.com/a/android.com/opensource/projects/bluetooth-faq, "dund" is the client utility that is needed to establish a dial-up connection from Android to another device. When I run this command on the NC, it says "dund: not found". I'm not a developer and don't know how much effort would be involved in adding this functionality to the build. Is it just a matter of including the binaries, or is there additional development work involved?
Thanks in advance..

[Q] BlueTooth and Wifi settings interference

Has anyone noticed the following ?
a) Turning on / off bluetooth affects the WiFi connection including sometimes disconnecting the WiFi (when BT is being turned off i.e.).
I use BT to connect with the gtab to my samsung and transfer files etc. When o go to disconnect, the wifi connection has also dissapeared.
b) As a side issue, the Market app kept force closing when launching it, when i changed to went to a different location and it connected up with the WiFi connection there. The Market app was active at first location before i left. Haven't had a chance to reproduce and check the exact scenarios yet.
Have stock Froyo (3389) with Enhancement 3.1.4b (Market app).
i suggest going to custom rom.
i had dropping wifi issues and those fc issues but it was due to a poorly made rom brillant corners and since theres no support i gave up on it
other froyo roms like beastly worked great. didnt drop conenctions

Just curious as to where you got stock 3389 from? It wasn't even released as an OTA update as far as I know. if you prefer stock, then 3588 or 4349 are the most used versions. Have you made any other mods yet? CWM, market fix, etc? If not, then using stock recovery, you can flash either of the stock roms. See Goodintentions "Gtablet for dummies" page for links to the images, and instructions on how to flash using stock recovery.
I, too, have the same problem. On my first mod TnT Harmony 1.2 and now with Caulkin's G-Tab 1.1 I have a problem with bluetooth causing interference with wifi. I am using the BlutO keyboard along with "Bluetooth Easy Connect" in order to get it to actually connect. However, on both mod's the effect is the same, as soon as I turn off the bluetooth my wifi stays connected. I really like Caulkin's G-Tab it is amazingly fast and would prefer to stay there but would move to another one if a different mod would solve this problem. Any suggestions?
Oops must have been typing the rdp port too many times that day. Sorry its 3588.

I didnt want to take a chance with any particular complete rom replacement, thats why used the 'enhancement' pack which basically provided the speedup with market and still the std tnt ui.
Followup, yesterday I had to rebuild the 'bricked' gtab which was suffered from fc's just as I started to give demos :-((
So mucho thanks to the viewsonic for dummies site for collecting all the info in such an easy to read format
I did code red procedure and did the bocksize change which I had not had to do first time. Noticed a speed up in the stock (quadrant - 1743) just by doing a wipe and change of blocksize. Then adding enhancement pak took it to 2400.
Happy now. Tab is going to the field in uk, and hopefully will live thru next 3 wks without incidence.
Problem with bluetooth and wifi still exists. Basically turning on bluetooth and connecting will stall the wifi - it looks like it is still connected but open the settings panel and it will update to show 'disconnected' then touching the button will turn off wifi, then touching it again starts it connecting again and then its fine. A pain when you are trying to hookup bluetooth gps and use maps app.

[Q] Bluetooth not connecting with devices

can anyone else connect their HP touchpad to their phone via Bluetooth I have an evo 3d and neither of them find each other
I have an Epic 4G running SFR 1.2 and I can't get either device to find the other. It doesn't matter what setting I have type of device I have the touchpad look for.
Anyone else have luck hooking their phone up to their touchpad running android?
Bump - anyone had any luck? Can't get my TP to see my SGS2 or vice-versa.

I've got an... just check the sig.... anyways I was able to get the TP and the Inspire to pair but thats it, no calls, no texts. I didn't spend to much time on it cause the Inspire is actually recognized as a Desire HD (cause of the ROM) and thats on the list of not working. Good luck!
If you have Preware downloaded, Download an app called freeTether. This app allows you to make the TouchPad visible via bluetooth. Then on your phone find the TouchPad and pair it. Then accept the the link on the Touchpad and your good to go.
PS- you can also get the text messaging to work on the Touchpad with most Android phones if you use this method. You just need to make sure you allow messages to be sent via bluetooth in your phone. It should be in settings under bluetooth advance or something like that!

Texting works on my Desire HD. I get an issue with calls but I have yet to really dig in to it to try and get it working. It triggers the phone dialer but then drops saying the device doesn't support audio. Will post again if I get phone audio working.
Worked here, thanks.
Same issue with calls, it initiates it and then gives up. Texting works fine, and it appears to be receiving files from my SGS2 although I can't see where it's saving them. (EDIT: It saves them into the /tmp folder)
Now. Any way to get the TouchPad to access the WiFi connection of the SGS2 via either USB or Bluetooth somehow? (My SGS2 connects to the office Enterprise network, the TouchPad won't despite several hours of hackery to try and get it going ).

If you have Preware downloaded, Download an app called freeTether. This app allows you to make the TouchPad visible via bluetooth. Then on your phone find the TouchPad and pair it. Then accept the the link on the Touchpad and your good to go.
Click to collapse
It does NOT make the touchpad visible......

[Q] Phone pairing over bluetooth to use GPS

Sorry for my stupidity if that's what is it.
I have connected my PS3 controller via bluetooth without issue and this shows up in bluetooth paired devices fine.
Tried to pair with my desire HD to use bluetooth. Device pairs for a couple of seconds then phone moves back down from the paired section of the screen to the available.
I'm running ICS on phone, tried CM7 rom on phone in case that's the issue but no change.
Tried my partners Samsung galaxy ace and same concern.
All i want is gps over bluetooth and this part is fundamental to getting it working.
Am I missing something here. Please help

Thanks,
But that is the thread i was following.
It is step 5 i am having bother with, phone doesnt stay paired for more than a couple of seconds
1)get Gps2Bluettooth app and put it on your phone. read instructions in there. you will need to place widget on homescreen to activate whenever you want to tether GPS BT connection
2) get BluetoothGPS app and install it on the prime. follow instructions
3) pair up both devices. make sure to enable Gps2BT widget on phone and cut on GPS on your phone. then go into Bluetooth GPS app on prime and make sure that the box that says enable mock GPS provider is checked. then choose your device in connect box. then press connect. it should say connected afterwards. give it a lil and you will see your phone GPS icon in notification area going off or transferring data.
4)now your phone is sending GPS info to prime through BT. you can use the Bluetooth GPS app to see your satellite data or whatever. or now you can open Google maps or earth and it'll get the GPS info and lock on your location. or another other app needing GPS. for some reason I can't get GPS test to show the data. maybe because when I tried I didn't have a lock yet. don't know. worth trying out. but it works with all navigation apps I've tried so far.
very easy n simple setup. I just went into detail to make sure you hook up the right way. works great for me and every time. I use my Atrix to tether GPS through BT. my atrix sees n locks on Gps satellites very fast.
thanks for the reply but i think everyone may be missing the point. my phones wont pair for anymore than a couple of seconds using bluetooth. ps3 controller does fine.
Not sure why, hence i have no phone to select in the bluetooth gps app connection list.
Phones show as pairing and move into the paired devices list on connection screen but then drop down back to available devices as if pairing has failed but i cant understand why, wondering if anyone else had this issue.
Thanks
sounds like a phone problem, check the forum for your phone & rom...
That is exactly what I thought originally, altough my phone connects and pairs with car bluetooth fine.
Switched from ICS to CM7 with phone to rule out rom, now back to GB sense ROM. (Not had change to test latter yet.)
Tested and same scenario on partners Samsung Galaxy Ace.
Will keep trying and feed back.
Thanks all
Just to let anyone know who may experience same issue.
I managed to fix concern with factory reset of tablet, bluetooth somehow wasnt playing right
