Google Maps: Compass Mode - related to all 2.2 ROMs - XPERIA X8 Android Development

I've encountered a problem with Compass Mode in Google Maps.
Talking about this: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1082071
It works pretty well with stock 2.1 ROM, but doesn't work with any 2.2 ROM (tried Floyo, miniCM, Elelinux & others).
Does it work for anybody or is it a general problem?
Could any dev explains why it's so?
Thx in advance. Regards.

I'm using 2.3.3 and don't have any problems at all.

Google Navigation

I seem to recall that you could get Google Navigation working here in the UK -
I'm running Espresso Hybrid ROM 2.1 ( highly recommended of the 2.1 Roms ).
Thanks
PS - I did search

[Q] cyanogen mod used in 2.2 roms

Hello everyone
I have a question, as I noticed recently, that one of the nightly releases of CM 6.0 finally has the camera working.
But 2.2 roms that are to be found in the dev section have camera working for quite some time now. I'm confused, as I heard that froyd villain provided their work for CM.
So my question is - in 2.2 roms, is camera working by using 2.1 drivers or something ?
Just curious, that's all
cheers

Hi,
I can clarify this for you. FroydVillain and Cyanogenmod share fixes in both directions. Cyanogen fixed camera, and gave details of the fix to other devs (IIRC it involves specific files for each device). The fix involved 2.1 drivers, though the specifics evade me, but essentially yes.
FroydVillain was one of the first ROMs to include Cyanogen's camera fix as an update was being released anyway about that time.
But equally if someone fixes something in Froyd, they send it to Cyanogenmod to get fixed for other devices too (like how Revoked fixed the proxy implementation for CM6 for Froyd and sent fix upstream)
Hope that explains it. I don't know what the nightlies are built off, but the sharing means info moves about sometimes faster than via nightlies...

[Q] Voice control & WiFi Issues on 2.3.3

I updated an X10a yesterday from 2.1 to 2.3.3 generic originally for X10i
The flashing was OK and the OS is working fine, but there are some issues. The Wifi works from time to time, the voice control isn't working (I don't know if that's because I have to download it from Market or it's integrated).
What can I do?
If I would like to change the firmware, which one is working fine and you recommend?
Thanks,
PS: Is there any guide to give a lookout on the themes thing?
WiFi doesn't work with me either.. This problem was from the beginning of official 2.1.. my wifi can't support WPA/WPA2 host..
with the provided 2.2 ROM's here, it works like a charm, but now after the official update 2.3 it doesn't work any more

Getting GPS to work

Well, I don't know, but I was on Grif_07's CM7.1 and the GPS did not work, it said "temporarily unavailable". Right now I am on CM7.2 Infinity ROM, any fix? (The tweak thread in development does not work). I've tried the older maps, no luck.
I Use Grifs CM.7.1 with the update fix. GPS works fine. Google maps doesn't though( FC all the time ). Navigation works great. I downloaded another maps program (and you can always use Gmaps online which works ok). Dont quote me on this but I have been told Gmaps is a no go on CM7 based roms but probably not the case! (Just can confirm not on grifs cm7.1)
What would happen if I flashed the cm7.1 OC kernel on infinity ROM which has the 7.2 kernel?
try to install again the rom, and try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284506
I switched to gingerreal and used the GPS fix, it works.

[Q] Need help to choose GB ROM to my x10a [SOLVED]

Hi guys,
(sorry if my words aren't clear, please tell me if any of what I say isn't undestandabble)
Yesterday I installed FeraLabs ICS v2.2 ROM in my x10a. Great ROM, I fell in love with android 4 and cyanogemod, it was my first contact with both. But I had some problems using it, some apps not working, others freezing the entire system, can't send SMS etc. I know that probably most of these bugs already have fixes, the ROM is being developed etc, but I decided that it's not for me yet, this is my main phone and I need it rock solid for day to day use.
So I decided to try some GB rom. But there are a lot of ROMs out there, and I couldn't find a thread answering what's the best for my case, so I'm gonna ask fro suggestions. =D
Here's what I need:
- A stable ROM, fully compatible with my x10a;
- Based on cyanogemod;
- If possible, faster than stock 2.3 ROM;
- If possible, less power-consuming than stock 2.3 ROM, but it's the least important feature (got a 3500mAh battery);
- I personnally don't like the Sony UI improvemments and general bloatwares. I like google default apps and UI. Also used a LG p500 for a year, liked a lot the LG punctual customizations;
- It can have bugs about video recording, I don't use it much;
- It can't have bugs with 3g, wifi, calling and texting (hehehe);
So, what flavors should I try?
Thank you all. ;D
Donut HD 2.2 it's faster than stock and cm and works perfect with good battery life 2

Hi,
Thanks for helping.
Looking at the instructions in the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30999560&postcount=1167). Will it run OK with the feralabs kernel that is currently is installed in my system? Shouldn't I change hte kernel?
If yes, what kernel should I flash?
Hi guys,
I flashed doomkernel, booted to xRecovery, installed the doomkernel wifi module from zip, booted again to xRecovery, installed the donuthd, booted again, installed donuthd, booted to xRecovery and installed donuthd update.
It's really fast, I've never used and android this fast. I'm currently installing my apps, wanna see if it will keep great at night. =D
But I've seen a problem:
My sms messages aren't being delivered, just like happened with Feralabs ICS 2.2 rom. Anyone got this problem? Does this have some relation with my phone being a x10a (and now it's appearing in in my system settings as x10i) ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi again,
Today I cleaned up my phone and tried to install donutHD + doomkernel again. Everything worked ok, except sending and receiving SMS messages. So I flashed back 2.1 stock firmware and 2.3 (GB) stock firmware, and SMS sending/receiving worked fine again, in both versions.
Does anybody has any clue about what can be happening? When I installed donutHD (about 3 times), I was in 2.1 stock firmware, root/busybox/xrecovery from Flashtool (newest version). The same problem ocurred with the Feralabs ICS v2.2 ROM with feralabs kernel for ICS.
I also tried to flash the 2.3th kernel n5-1 (comming from 2.1 stock firmware), but it got frozen in SE screen, during boot. Even xrecovery couldn't open. =/
=========================== edited:
Problem solved: As observed I was upgrading from 2.1 stock ROM to DonutHD. Doing this upgrade coming from android 2.3 stock ROM, the SMS sending/receiving works like a charm. =D
