So my settings aren't anything unusual on my tbolt, but right now my battery usage reads as follows:
3hr 36 min since unplugged
82% Android system
5% cell standby
4% voice calls
4% idle
3% display
There's a laundry list of items under android system, and I'm in a pretty poor signal area. I always though signal-searching went under cell standby though, is that correct?
Additionally, when my e-mail accounts sync, I always assumed that would go under cell standby, but there's something in system for syncing as well, would it go there instead?
thanks for the help
*edit - battery died after 6 hours of almost no use. phone was also getting quite warm. I also want to point out that this doesn't happen normally and I've only noticed it a time or two in the past.
What ROM and kernel combination are you running?
lean kernal and das bamf 1.5
I would backup your applications and data, then reflash the ROM and see if you are getting the same results on a stock kernel.
I was using leankernel too and got this same problem. Or rather, as soon as I flashed lean kernel, I noticed that my phone would die quickly in standby, regardless of what speedtweak.sh mode I was in. I was getting something like 4-6 hours of light use out of my phone with before it would die.
As soon as I switched back to the stock bamf 4.4.7 kernel, my battery went back to normal, draining to 30% battery after 10 hours of light use.
I don't know why, but the ROM and kernel just didn't play nicely for me. Try reflashing back to the stock bamf kernel and see if it helps.

I have a stock SGS2 with a lot of widgets running. I use BetterBatteryStats and have removed the high power usage apps.
Past few days, the phone uses a lot of battery at night. Yesterday it had 32% battery and when i woke up it was dead.
Are the rest of you also seeing this much battery consumption every night ?
Funnily enough I've had exactly the same issue since about a week ago. Even when I take it off charge it's almost immediately down to around 80%. It's lasting around 4-5 hours, even when I'm not using the phone much, plus it gets really hot.
A couple of times Social Hub has appeared high up on the list of battery draining apps, although I don't use it. It doesn't always show up though. I switched to the CF-Root kernel and started using GO Launcher EX recently and wondered if that (or one of it's addon widgets) could be the cause.
It's really bugging me now!
I gave up with the stock S2. Rooted it and flashed MIUI to it along with the Siyah Kernel. Now it uses only 6% for the whole night. Battery usage is so much better now.
People having issues with battery should try the siyah kernel and change governors (unless some app was draining your battery)
yeah, actually some new users will experience battery problem. however, some says that when time goes by, the problem eventually sorted out itself.
i am guessing the phone need "warm up time"
I had the same problem with stock rom. you have to remove the preinstalled useless samsung apps. then battery consumption is better.
i am now on cm7. everything is working and around 8% per night with a lot of background processes (tasker, lbe, scheduled titanium backup).
Don't always turn on wifi or data unless necessary.Turn off background sync. This should help a lot even u r using stock rom.Kill tasks with built-in task manager.Make sure useless apps are not running in background.
With these tips,my s2 with rooted stock rom and stock kernel only consumed 3% of battery all night .
i keep wifi or gprs on for instant messaging needs. The Siyah kernel and the lulz governor give amazing battery life because process runs at lower clocks instead of jumping to 1200 unnecessarily.
The stock kernels aren't too bad in my experience.
I think you will find your battery drain will be caused by rogue apps before the kernel.
Edit: why have this phone if your going to turn off gsm and data etc. May aswel turn the phone right off and have zero drain overnight.
A drain of 1-3% per hour with everything turned on is normal for me.

Question regarding cell standby and battery life since a recent upgrade (eh03_sc3_0.5_full with the KGB 1202 kernel). I did the upgrade on 12/6 coming from UKB, pbj50 kernel and ed05 radio.
All is working well, including better reception, though I have noticed substantial battery drain recently despite all other settings being the same (wifi off, brightness low, debloated and frozen apps with TBU Pro, etc, etc.). Ive lost probably 40% of my battery capacity and am near dead by 5pm with minimal call use. I wiped battery stats, flashed with a full battery, *228 after modem update, gave it two weeks, and so forth, just as I had with every other upgrade.
I see in battery use that cell standby is 34%, followed by display at 20%, calls 6%, 5 hours after boot. Is this excessive for the cell standby ? Would another radio work better ?
IMHO, eb01 was the best radio for my use, followed by ed05 and ec09. Possible that the current radio isnt working properly ?
do you use an OC/UV app? like SetCPU? perhaps setting a profile for screen off down to like 400/100 would work for you? I found similar issue with my battery using KGB 12.12... i reverted back to KGB 11.27, and did notice less draw...
of course I failed on the first attempt and had to reflash the rom and all... but I'm a flashoholic anyway...

"the relentless pursuit of the perfect rom"
ok been running shostock2 since 2.2. Absolutely love the rom for it's simplicity. However a week or so go I updated to 2.6 and my battery life went to hell. I then reverted back to a previous backup 2.4 and my battery life is still hell.
I was at a full charge at 5:30am this morning. Now at almost 1pm I'm down to 38 percent. All i've done is sent a few texts, no voice, no updates no nothing. I did manually flash the cherry picker kernel after upgrading to 2.6 since i wasn't sure if it was packed with the latest revision.
Not sure if it's the kernel or a setting or ?
Sync is off, GPS is off, Wifi is off, bluetooth etc. Have good signal etc. Screen times out at 15 seconds and is on auto setting
Battery stats shows Android OS eating 31% screen 28% Exchange at 16% cell stanbdy 8% phone idle 6 e-mail 5% android system 4% phone 2%
Not sure why exchange is sapping so much since it's set to manual updates.
Just not really sure what to try. I did let it go fully dead, gave it a full charge, wiped battery stats first thing this morning.
I did try power saver for a day and it made zero difference.
Any help on how to get my battery life back to normal or other advice in this situation would be appreciated.
Question,
are you using Go launcher? and go products by any chance?
no stock Apex launcher. Like I said it was running great then all of sudden blamo it all went to hell.
Now one detail which may make sense to someone smarter than me(most of you). When I tried restoring back to 2.4 on saturday I was at around 65% battery. When I restored back to my CWM backup to 2.4 my battery went instantly to less than 20% which I found really weird as well and never seen any rom change do that.

Better Battery Stats.
Sorry just saw the screenshot (i have images off)
According to Battery Monitor Widget, my Rezound is currently running at a drain of 300 - 600mA. I can't figure out what it's doing.
In BMW usage it only lists:
Screen 70%
Cell standy 19%
Wi-Fi 6%
Phone idle 3%
Camera 2%
This is the same as what's shown in Settings/Power/Battery use.
In System Tuner Pro Task Mgr, it lists:
ADWLauncher EX 00.00s
Batt Mon Widg 0s
EasyProfiles 0s
GSam Battery monitor 0s
gTabSiMiClock 0s
No Lock 0s
Rocket Player 0s
SwiftKey 3 0s
WorldMate 0s
and that's it.
When I check CPU (in STP), it looks like CPU0 is continuously jumping back and forth between 1.51GHz and 384, and CPU1 says 'offline'.
How do I figure out what is using so much battery? Or, if my CPU is really constantly jumping up to full speed, how do I figure out what's causing that?

Running Nils' Business ICS Sense 3.6 ROM v6.2 - the Global RUU version.
I had been running this same ROM 2 weeks ago and was getting great battery life. Battery drain when idle was around 40 - 60mA (instead of 400 - 600).
2 weeks ago, I flashed DSB's kernel (1.6.1, at the time, I think). Then I updated it to 1.6.2, which is what I was running up until yesterday. I was not having this problem with battery drain while running that kernel. But, it was definitely no better on battery than the stock kernel from Nils' ROM (i.e. the Global RUU kernel).
So, yesterday, I decided to go back to the stock kernel. Long story short, the latest thing I have done is boot into Recovery (TWRP) and do a Factory reset, then wipe cache/Dalvik. Then I restored a nandroid backup from 2 weeks ago when I was running Nils' v6.1 ROM (right before I first flashed DSB's kernel). Then I flashed Nils' 6.2 ROM again, on top of the nandroid restore. Then I booted back up, went in Ti Backup and restored only 2 things - HTC Sense Desktop (app + data) and ADWLauncher EX (app+data). The restores were from a backup I did today before doing any wiping or flashing.
After doing all that, and letting it boot up and sit idle for at least 10 or 20 minutes, I check it and it is still burning battery like crazy! I was in my office all day today and our Internet was down. So I was running WiFi Tether all day to get my laptop on the Internet. I had it on a charger the whole time and even with the screen turned off, it was still actually discharging! i mean, BMW would show that it was charging, but the actual current was still showing a small drain on the battery instead of positive current to the battery. At one point, it was on the charger this morning and showed 100%. It stayed on the charger all day and by the time I left work, it was showing 29%. I even changed to a different charger this afternoon, to make sure that wasn't the problem, too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
ps. I have even swapped out my battery for another one, this evening, just to rule out the possibility that it was just a battery gone bad.
.use betterbatterystats to monitor and try to keep as little apps from running all the time in the foreground. the 2nd core is suppose to be offline most times. it only comes on for heavy loads. for frequencies use cpuspy to see how long frequencies are used and to see if it's scaling correctly or if it's just pinging between minimum and maximum. different governors react differently as well. every device is different so if ones governor scales great for somebody it might not for you. NEVER restore data within titanium backup
betterbatterystats is no longer free?

I've noticed similar behavior on the Global RUU as well. Still looking for an answer.
I rolled back to a nandroid backup image this afternoon that I made right before installing DSB's kernel. 2 weeks ago. This evening., my drain has been consistently well under 50mA. I'm going to roll forward again one step at a time. My backup was made when I was on Nils' v6.1 ROM. I'm going to update to 6.3 and confirm battery drain is good. Then update all my apps to the latest (Play says I have 19 updates waiting). If everything is still good, then I'll restore apps one at a time from Ti Backup. These would be apps that I installed since my nandroid backup from 2 weeks ago.
I'm starting to be suspicious that my problem may have been coming from System Tuner Pro.
Hello everyone, I'm using Motorola Atrix with Epinter CM10 4.1 ROM for last 2 months, I was very happy with battery life. Phone wasn't getting hot and with normal usage, even with 3G on (in my country only options are 2G and 3G), I could get %40 of battery end of the day. But for no reason, phone has started to get hot (only 2G on) and drains battery really quickly for last 1 week. I can't even get %5 battery left from morning to evening now. I didn't change anything, only installed Adobe Flash 11.1, then I deleted it but nothing has changed. Phone gets into deep sleep no problem with that, no background apps. I did a virus scan both on phone and from computer, both came out clean. I reinstalled rom. Nothing. I'm gonna crash my phone against wall it's really annoying. I think I'm gonna do factory wipe and reinstall rom again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Do you leave wifi switched on at all times?
I use MIUI on my Atrix (partially based on epinter's work, I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong), but I have found that the phone suddenly starts staying awake for no apparent reason a while (often a couple of days) after I've left wifi switched on. This obviously causes bad battery drain. I can usually get the phone to sleep again by rebooting with wifi switched off (I think) and a battery pull is invariably required.
I now just switch on wifi when I have large files to download then turn it off straight afterwards.
Not sure if it is the same issue or not, but Better Battery Stats (which can be downloaded on xda) indicated the Rilj process was stopping the phone from sleeping when this problem occurred. It is worth trying this app to see if it gives any indication what is causing your battery drain.

No I switch between mobile data and wifi. Thank you for your suggestions and opinions but I really don't think my problem is about sleep. It started to get hot and drain when I actually use the phone. For example, I was checking Twitter for 10 min. with 3G and battery was dropping %1. Now it drops %5 with 2G on and gets really hot like 35-37 Celsius degree. I'm using Watchdog to oversee processes and nothing is working without my knowledge on background.
Hi,
I have the same problem on the nottachtrix roms since the last 2 weeks, I tried switching to epinter cm10 with no luck. Ordered a new battery to check if the battery is dead or if the atrix is faulty
if you find a fix, please post it here

install gsam battery monitor to see your phone's awake time. this drain happens to me also when i listen to music or take a photo. something with mediaserver keeps the phone awake and then only thing to do is kill mediaserver or a reboot.
Regardless of which other apps you are using to monitor app and process usage, I'd recommend trying Better Battery Stats as this is much more detailed and low-level than other apps I've encountered.
It's a free download for xda members:

Little update.
I turned back to factory settings, then did a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe. I was so annoyed I even did system wipe manually from advanced options in recovery. I reinstalled Epinter CM10 rom, got my apps back thanks to Titanium Backup. Installed GSAM (thanks to saldirai), downloaded SetCpu and chose Nvidia Tegra 2 T20/AP20H, underclocked to 912 mhz. Couldn't done any undervolting sadly, says something about governor.
Now I'm checking battery stats and temperature by GSAM, so far no complaints and better from yesterday BUT I haven't use my phone heavily yet. Temperature changes between 26-31 Celsius degrees, battery drops %1-2 percent on use -also it needs calibration- with only wifi use which is always on. I'll update this post if anything changes.
Update: I think I've found the problem. When I choose The Weather Channel widget to "use my location" phone immediately starts to get warm. Weird point is, this wasn't an issue before. Apart from that I'm playing New Star Soccer and Carmageddon for 3-4 hours with wi-fi full time on and battery drops to %30. I'm really happy about that. Normal battery temperature is about 25-32 during the day and different from before it quickly gets cold after I stop playing games. Just like before.
