Hi,
I just picked up my tablet yesterday, but am unable to install the clockwork mod. I followed the instructions in the guide thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
It is not loading the clockwork mod. I see the "Detect a recovery key pressed", see a black screen with nothing but the word "android" and then I see a large warning triangle before the system boots into the normal interface.
Could this be due to a recent change in their firmware that is shipped? Could I be missing something here? I create the folder in my removable compact sd card and copy the recovery.zip file there.
Please help, I do not want this tablet if it is to stay in the stock state....
Found out why!
I didn't extract the zip file. I simply renamed it. Stupid stupid stupid....
I hope that if anyone else here had that issue they will see this.

I started making .rar files now, just to try to make that more clear. Don't worry, I've done the same thing and I created the zip file! :O
My files are usually like this because I need to put the recovery folder in there, for non-clockworkmod users.
I'm having the same problem, However I did extract the files correctly like stated and didn't rename anything. However, I still getting the screens like you described in your post. Any ideas?
What is it doing

update.zip should be in the root of the card...then in a folder called recovery should b a file called command

I am having the same issues. Running the TNT 3316 build. When trying to install the Google apps pr clockwork mod it says recovery key pressed then loading recovery kernel. then it loads a screen with a status bar and quickly reboots without changing any files. I rooted with z4 root and a sideloaded root explorer works and mounts system. any ideas?
I had the same problem and spent hours on it. Originally I used a 16gb microscope card and didn't work...then I switched to an 8gb and it worked...probably has to do with the micro SD card size. Also, press vol. Up fret followed by power and release power when viewsonic start screen comes on. Then release volume button when upper left sentence comes on
When I had the same problem it was due to recovery/command in the cwmod_v08.zip looking for update.zip at /sdcard2/ and I had copied the files over USB so they ended up at /sdcard/.
Another thing to try (I have had to do this occasionally when CW won't install), in the settings menu under the security tab, do a factory reset. It doesn't lose my settings but clears up whatever is keeping CW from installing. Once I do a factory reset then the install works flawlessly. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks

I'm having the same exact issue. 16GB SD card getting same results; can't get into clockwork mod, get recovery kernel instead. I don't know why it should have anything to do with size of SD card, but I'll try it since you had success. Thanks.

I'm using a 16gb sdcard and it works fine. Make sure when you unzip the clockwork 0.8 file that you place it on the root of the sdcard and make sure the command file in the recovery folder is pointing to the sdcard you want to use.....if the line in the command file is "SDCARD2" then either change it to "SDCARD" and use the internal sdcard card or use the external sdcard.
SDCARD
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/recovery/command
SDCARD2
/sdcard2/update.zip
/sdcard2/recovery/command
Make sure the command file is there. It deletes the first time you try to install
Thanks. That was totally the problem. Need to factory reset, because the settings that the gtablet is shipped with are not the default.
I am having a similar problem with not being able to install CWM on my gTablet.
I upgraded from bootloader 1.1 to 1.2 and I am currently running this (from About Tablet):
Model Number UPC300-2.2
Android OS version 2.2
Tap UI version 1.2-4349
Kernel version [email protected] #1
Build Number FRF91
I would like to flash the Flashback 10.1 ROM but for some reason I can't get ClockworkMod back.
After I do a nvflash I attempt to go into recovery. There I will see the stock recovery with only limited options.
I copied the CWM 0.8 recovery folder and upgrade.zip to the root of the sd card.
Then when I reboot into recovery I get " Recovery key detected" and "Booting recovery kernel image" It will just sit there like that.
So I tried to just flash the rom file as update.zip and I get back into the stock Android system recovery <e3>
Options:
System Reboot
Apply Internal update.zip
Apply external update.zip
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe cahce partition
Calibrate Touch panel
below that I am now getting this:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk2
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD2:recovery/command
I am getting very confused :-(

i'm having a similar issue with trying to install cwm, bc1.3.1 update, flashback, etc, without nvflashing back to stock viewsonic rom....
just get the "booting recovery kernal image" line ad infinitum
i even just used nvflash to install cwm (which appeared to go properly) and when trying to get into recovery it still just does the same thing, sits at that second line...

I think I might have figured it out. I flashed the nvflash with this from here: http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/nvflash.htm
nvflash with clockworkmod 1.2 branch.
Then I booted into that stock ROM
went to USB and deleted everything off the sdcard.
copied calkulin's format all and the flashback 10 ROM to sdcard
turned off device
booted into recovery, now CWM
flash calkulin's format all
flash ROM
Reboot
voila
hope this helps

yes, I copied everything to my PC first of course but then deleted everything except for the recovery folder and my download folder where I had some ROM files etc.
Here is the link to the Calkulin's file : http://www.mediafire.com/?sxgwdof1s6oa7hc

now if only i can get it to connect to my canon camera so i can use dslrcontroller!
I have been downgraded the phone from 2.2 to 1.31 and then created the goldcard.
I started step 1 of rooting, it worked fine until I continued to step 2.
It happened to be like in the attach file
"failed to copy 'rootedupdate.zip' to '/sdcard/rootedupdate.zip' : I/O error"
then I selected Wipe option after that I tried to select "Flash zip from sdcard"
and it showed "E:No zip files found"
What should I do?
Please help me
and please excuse my poor English
Thank you

maybe you can try manually putting the rootedupdate.zip in your sd card root folder using your computer? then try wiping and flashing the rootedupdate.zip again when you get to that screen. I am not expert, just a thought
I'll write here what I wrote in another thread, I think it can be a solution for you as well:
Try booting to normal mode, then connect the device to the computer as a removable disk (or connect your sdcard to the computer with an sdcard to usb adapter)
After that, put on your sdcard the recovery update.zip found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969076
after that, boot in recovery. press vol-up + power and choose "apply sdcard:update.zip"
Then you'll get a CWM recovery menu where you can install any ROM (should put the ROM on the sdcard ofcrouse), and that saves you from running step2.
Hi guys, I am wondering if anyone can help out. I am trying to flash Gingerbread stable edition RC1 on to my Zpad/G Tab but I am have a lot of difficulty. About 4 months ago, I installed Vegan5.1 on to my Zpad using cwm, I managed to install and all went well. Yesterday I decided to install Gingerbread on to my Zpad, I followed the same steps when I flashed Vegan 5.1, But when I rebooted, it starts up but does not boot up, it seems to hang at the initial starting phase. I followed the same steps that I used when I installed Vegan5.1.
Eventually, I decided to go back to Vegan 5.1, I tried the same method that I have been using to install Gingerbread and it worked like clockwork. So I am now back with Vegan until I can work out how to install Gingerbread.
I am at a loss.
CWM internal MOD v 2.5.1.1-bekit-0 already installed
Booted in to cwm
partitioned SD card”, first option 2048, then second option used 0
Rebooted back in to cwm v08
In mounts and storage set to unmount system and unmount /data
Selected install zip from sdcard and choose zip from sd card and pressed home
Selected gingerbread ROM
Installed ROM
Received the message "install zip from sdcard complete"
Back to cwm menu
Set to unmount system and unmount /data
Selected wipe data/factory reset, Navigated down to “Yes – delete all user data”, and select it to wipe out user data and all the cache.
Then selected reboot.
The unit then starts and hangs on the bootup logo and does not proceed.
If anyone can be so kind as to help out, I would be most grateful. So to recap, I have Vegan 5.1 installed, tried to flash Gingerbread using cwmv8, when I reboot, it wont go past the initila logo and appears to hang.
Thanks All for the help
This is my first attempt at rooting and flashing a Nook Tablet. I have an 8GB version 1.4.2 Tablet that I've been trying to flash since 9pm last night. I have 3 different SD cards that I've tried in various combinations across using a guide from Sal Yanez on pureandorid with no luck. I'll outline the steps below in how i've tried to do so...
1) Downloaded and burned the NT16or8gbV47SDimagefile.img to an SD card using Win32DiskImager. The partition comes out to 70MB and I then insert it into my powered off NT.
2) Insert the USB cable into the NT and then into my PC which causes it to boot to CWM recovery (version 5.05.5 i believe.)
3) I select "install zip from SD card" and select the Root_8gb-or-16gb-NTV4_7.zip rom. After it has installed, I unplug the cable and select reboot.
4) The reflashed rom boots and I can access a pseudo-version of android with ADW launcher by pressing the 'n' hardkey. From here, I can access the android apps list menu and select ES File Explorer to install the Nook Recovery Flasher apk.
5) With that installed, I select "Flash CWM Recovery" and wait for it to say it's completed, then select "Reboot to Recovery" after ejecting my SD card.
6) I then copy a CWM recovery zip and a CM rom zip to a second SD card. The combinations i've tried are further below...
7) After rebooting into recovery, I insert the second SD card into the NT and then select "install zip from SD card" and select the CWM recovery file. Once it's installed, I reboot again.
8) After booting and getting back to the ADW launcher, I navigated back to Nook Flasher app and select "Reboot to Recovery"
9) After rebooting into recovery again, I now select "wipe data/factory reset" and then "wipe cache partition" before selecting "install from SD card" and selecting the CM rom file.
10) In all cases, i'll get one of two errors, either i get a status 7 error (presumably because my CWM version isn't compatible with the CM rom file) or it begins to install before the screen flashes white a few times, then tries to reboot and gets stuck at the "read forever" screen. I usually wait about a minute or so before powering it down and then restoring back to stock v1.4.2 via a bootable image i have on a third SD card.
Here are the combinations i've tried (CWM 6.0.2.7 + CM 10.2.1, CWM 6.0.2.7 + CM 10.1.1, CWM 6.0.2.7 + CM 10.1.3, CWM 6.0.4.3 + CM 10.2.1, CWM 6.0.4.3 + CM11 snapshot 11/24/2014, CWM 6.0.4.3 + CM11 nightly 1/5/2015)
So my ultimate question is this, am i just an idiot and I just need to wait longer in step 10? I've felt like i've waited upwards of 3 or 4 minutes, but as it was getting late last night, it might've been shorter and just seemed like I waited that long. Is there some issue with getting CM10 or 11 on the 8GB NT? I've read a thread which stated the 8GB does not play well with CM but i've also seen contradictory information from those who've gotten it to flash successfully. Could it be that the stock v1.4.2 needs to be updated to v1.4.3 first before trying to do the above steps?
Any help is very much appreciated as I've spent several hours now trying to do something that seemed to be fairly straightforward and should've been a 30 min job at the most.
If you are aiming to install a custom ROM like CM to replace stock ROM on EMMC, there is no need to first root the stock ROM with your steps 1-4, as it's going to be totally replaced with the custom ROM. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575489 for background info.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51377882&postcount=163 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692403 respectively for how to flash CM10 and CM11 on your NT EMMC.
Thanks for the assistance Digimax, I was finally able to get CM11 successfully flashed by burning a bootable SD image from succulent's blog onto an SD card, and then copying the other files from the guide you linked to onto the nook's emmc. Once booted into the TWRP recovery from card, I wiped and then flashed CWMchrmhoffman, CM11, and gapps all in queue, and that seemed to do the trick! Very pleased with the result and finally relieved to move onto other things after several hours of frustration. Thanks again! :highfive:
So, I screwed up my kid's tablet trying to allow for more than just in-device storage because Samsung gave it a Micro SD port that it can barely use.
Anyway, I used Odin to install <recovery.tar.md5> from Zip folder: T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar
I had tried installing T210.TWRP.2.8.0.0.tar.md5 but could not get a successful restart.
This is the instructions I followed: (Ooops! Can't post outside links, yet.)
Installed Samsung USB Drivers and enabled USB debugging. (Had issues getting all the drivers to install. But had no problems with Odin).
Copied android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip to the SD card on the tablet.
Sent CWM recovery file via Odin.
Rebooted into CWM recovery
Installed from Zip on external SD
Rebooted again as "Android updated"
Initial Root check said not rooted, but downloaded SuperSU by _______? (can't tell at the moment) And then it came as rooted.
Downloaded App2SD and partitioned the external SD card. Had to use Format option instead of Create for it to work.
In APP2SD, selected something about Linking apps. A prompt came up stating to reboot into recovery and do 2 things which I quickly forgot.
Rebooted into CWM and have been stuck ever since.
Attempts to turn off the Tablet end up in a restart into CWM. I did discover that if you press and hold the Power button and the Home button, it will force a shut down, which gave the screen a rest.
I've used most wipe options in CWM, accept the dalvik cache.
When I choose "restore from /sdcard," the image "2017-08-22.16.41.29" results in "Checking MD5sums... MD5 mismatch!"
I was able to remove the MicroSD and add the android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip folder back to it. However, after installing this zip successfully in CWM recovery, it just reboots me right back to CWM.
In this adventure, I have used ADB to re-flash CWM but nothing changed. I'm brand new to all of this as you can tell.
I need to get this tab back in working order. What do I do?
CWM recovery gives MD5 mismatch on restore
OK, got a TWRP to work (T210.TWRP.2.8.7.0.tar.md5). Now, I at least have a factory reset, working tablet.
But there is still a backup file from CWM, right? The "2017-08-22.16.41.29"that results in "Checking MD5sums... MD5 mismatch!"
Any chance I could fix this error and get back some or all of my missing stuff?
Wrong forum im afraid...
Ever considered flashing stock firmware with Odin?
Read up on it Itll solve most of your issues
Which is the correct forum, then?
What I really need to know is how to link apps to my SD card. Or some other procedure that allows me to use SD as internal storage.
