While playing (a bit too much), I must have deleted the password setup icon/file from settings and cannot change or disable the password screen. Anyone knows what the file name is and can post it here or email me the file. I know the password and can get in but I really don't need it and would like to disable it.
The shortcut is exactly like this:
"ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1"
>> without "" quotes

Thanks ezzkht, but how do I create the shortcut?
Try to copy any shortcut from \windows\start menu\programs\
and paste it to the location you want, rename it & edit it using Total Commander (right-click on it & choose Properties, then go to Shortcut tab and change the TARGET parameter to "ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1" without quotes.
The icon will automatically change to the password icon

Sorry ezzkht, I did exactly what you said but it did not work. Tried with and without quotes, tried 0 instead of 1 but the icon never changes to the password icon just an executable icon but nothing happens when I click on it.
OH yes you are right!! sorry!
Ok here's the shortcut, I just get it from my device..
I opened it with a HEX editor & found the following line inside it:
51#ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1?\Windows\cplmain.cpl,-6000
plz tell me if it worked with you
Hi ezzkht, I tried but this also does not seem to work.
I checked the registery and their is a mention of a Password.cpl in the Windows directory which is not in mine. I installed logologin and picturepassword and have recently removed them, don't know if they might have also removed this file. It may be the the problem, do you have this file.
Neither me, I don't have password.cpl file in \windows directory!!
I have cplmain.cpl only!
I noticed that the password link points to cplmain.cpl with a parameter of : password.cpl
I guess that cplmain.cpl is a composite file which contains alot of programs, one of them is the password program!
Do u have the cplmain.cpl in windows directory??

Thanks ezzkht, this was good but it still did'nt work. I think somewhere their is a file missing. I will try emailing MS and see if they have an answer.
You welcome, but I did nothing!!

You got that right, finally got all the programs and the look I want. I am going to do a backup via Activsync and a clone backup tonight at home then if all else fails I will do a HR, copy any missing files from the windows directory and reinstall my backups.
Seems a great idea
Compare the two WINDOWS directories, and copy only the missing files..
Good luck dude
Hey guys, IDK if youve seen this yet, but its very convenient to have when youre wanting to know if you gotta good download, or not, by checking the MD5 Check Sum
Steps
- unzip, and the .exe will be there.
- Replace "paste its original md5 value to verify" at the bottom with the MD5 numbers, this obviously must be provided. Just Copy n' Paste.
- At the top choose your download you wanna check, by clicking "Browse"
- Once it loads up, click verify and bam.
This process, i think needs to be done more regularly, but thats just me.
Happy Rooting
Thanks! is this like Fast Sum Check?

What would be the difference between this and Android File Verifier? That's what i've been using for checking MD5sum
Sent from my Kush-Decked, x99ed, Android 2.3.4ed EVO Shift
So I found a directory while exploring with Android Commander witch contained a zip file entitled: bootanimation.zip, upon extracting it lone and behold it was my current bootscreen. I copied it, extracted it and changed all the images to my own animation. I kept the file format .jpg and the file names. But now when I boot it just skips the bootscreen. Am I safe in assuming the reason for this is an MD5 checksum? Or worse, a salted MD5 Checksum? I am running ICS 4.0.4 on the LG-LW770.
It isnt a big deal if it wont work, I just thought it would be awesome to show off my freeware organization branding and a message stating the phone belonged to me.
Please if you have any knowledge of the Bootanimation download this zip and let me know whats wrong.
Thanks,
Taylor

have you checked the file permissions, usually when the file gets copied it only gets owner read.

I checked into it, It does have root ownership & in the root group and the problem still exists. I also changed the file types to PNG with JPG extensions (as that apperently is the type of file the originals are) So there must be another issue... MD5?
Any suggestions anyone?

how about try from scratch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096068
that might help possibly. since you started from the other bootanimation.
What ROM are you using? The kernel has to support custom boot animations.
I checked and the boot animation works fine on my phone

Actionx1 now that is an answer that will suffice. Since my phone is relatively new (just released this month) and because it is a phone that will go under the radar (The LG Optimus Regard) I am using a stock Ice Cream Sandwich Version 4.0.4 (Rooted). Is there a way to sign the zip so it shows as official? Or does the file size have to match, like an MD5
Update, its odd that it works on your phone Action because The App Bootanimations, all of their Animations work for me, just not mine

read with attention a tutorial! I think you maybe did a syntax error in desc.txt so be sure to check that everything it's ok in there. When you use winrar to compress the bootanimation folder to make bootanimation.zip, be sure to select "store" compression method. And don't forget to put your new boot animation to /system/media!
Thanks Jones I did all that.... prior and still no luck
I have seen that others are having the same issue that I am having where my phone forgets WiFi settings after every reboot since MJ4 update. What is the fix for this?
Thanks

WiFi problems?
Try this:
Due to "securestorage" being set to true in build.prop, changes to the ROM or kernel that aren't reflected in the ss_id file in /system/etc/secure_storage/.system.bin.wpa_supplicant/ can cause issues with WiFi among other things. You can set this to false yourself, or simply flash the zip file below.
Download: Set Secure Storage to False
For those that prefer to do it manually, simply change this line ro.securestorage.support=true to false in /system/build.prop.

I wonder the same - why this fix is needed (it works for mew but why) ? We are talking about stock firmware here.
Is smth. broken with the device ? /efs partition or maybe hardware issue ?

With "ro.securestorage.support=true", passwords are stored in encrypted format in the file "wpa_supplicant.conf". When the value is changed to false, they are no longer stored encrypted, and can be read with any text reader.
It appears that if "ro.securestorage.support=true", whenever passwords appear "lost", they are actually still in the wpa_supplicant.conf file (in encrypted format), but for whatever reason are not being read and entered by the OS. Removal of the encryption routine fixes the "lost" issue (albeit with a potential loss of some security should your phone get into the wrong hands and should someone thereby obtain access to the unencrypted wpa_supplicant.conf file).

Reading your solution was a great help. However I would like to keep "ro.securestorage.support=true" and I have tried a solution that worked fine for me (S7, SM-930F):
Rename ss_id to ss_id.bak and create a new empty file named ss_id in the same directory (\etc\secure_storage\.system.bin.wpa_suplicant\), using Root Browser app. Then connect to your wifi and write the password.
After getting the connection, reboot your phone. It should now remember the wifi password, keeping the information encrypted.
If this doesn't result for you, you have always the solution with "ro.securestorage.support=false".

Thanks man, I was desperately searching for this fix. Works like a charm!:good:
A little addition: this works also with existing wifi passwords. When I had lost my passwords, I restored them with Titanium Backup first, then applied your fix, rebooted, and all my passwords were there and working. No need to rewrite any of them.
I'm on Note 4 N910F (Snapdragon), with alexandr's dev base v3.5 rom (MM 6.0.1) and AEL kernel v10.3 (20160424).

Worked for me too S5 G900A
On my S5 I enabled Knox (because Host - Teamviewer requested it) and the problem appeared, is it possible Knox is responsable for that?
I MADE THIS THREAD A FEW MONTHS AGO, DIDN'T GET THE ANSWER!! PLEASE HELP!
So, my brother backed up my Samsung Galaxy S4 on his laptop about 3 years ago. Can't remember the program used. He gave me the backup file recently. It's a .bak file which is 1.4GB.
(I screenshotted the file name and attached it here titled " FILE BACKUP TITLE.PNG")
I edited the file, to a .exe. (eg “Samsung SM-G350E_20191001_103009.bak” delete the bak and write exe after the dot and press enter.) That way I can access everything through winrar. However all of the files are encrypted! We have no idea what the password is, what shall I do! (Attached the "enter password" screen in winrar titled " RAR.PNG")
It has 1000's of photos from 2014-2017, I have no idea on what to do. I've checked out brute forcing, but I wasn't sure how to do it.
Thanks.

Try to convert the password protected .RAR-file into a .ZIP-file which you then can easily open without any password protected.

I'm not sure how to do that. Everytime I click on the file, it forces me to enter a password.
Are you sure that would work? It's not a rar file though. It's an application now, because I renamed it from .bak to .exe.
Thanks!!
(Attached screenshot of the standard file (the BAK file), then the edited one which opens through winrar (the application). Won't upload for some reason, (in the original post).
So basically, the file is a ".BAK" file, then same file was renamed to be an "application" file.

Probably not a rar (Rar!), nor an exe (MZ), more likely a zip (PK).

Okay, it's a zip. If older encryption is used then one known file could be used to decrypt it. Was it Advanced something that had that option??
Did that Wondershare Tunesgo ring any bell??
One could try use it again, mayby an old version and see if the files saved are in same order, etc...

It was advanced password recoveries from elcomsoft, but there are free tools for this known plaintext attack too. https://www.google.com/search?q=known+plaintext+attack+zip
Quite many variables that must match for it to work, but then again, only 12 known bytes is enough, of which at least 8 bytes need to be continuous, so only part of the known plaintext file is needed...
To see if it's even possible open it with 7-zip and see the encryption method.
It should be "zipcrypto deflate/store". Maybe also rar shows it....
If it looks like wondershare file, then using that password (that didn't work) as base could work. At least it would not take much time check numbers from 0-10000+++.
